Love the nostalgic feel and friendly, efficient service. I also love the rice option. The food was decent with veggies and I added my own seasoning and salt. I did not however enjoy the biscuits and gravy. I did not enjoy the serving plate used to serve my salad nor was I too fond of the price. New to area, visiting daughter in college. Sams Cafe came up on Yelp recommendations for breakfast and glad we did. Small older cafe on Miracle Mile, cozy family biz. Busy but family staffers kept service at high level. Food was good, typical American style breakfast. Lots of regulars coming in and out. Sam's Cafe has been a fixture at the North end of the Miracle Mile (Pacific Ave) for as long as I remember. If we are in town, we make it our Sunday morning go to for an early breakfast. There are a lot of regulars who come weekly as well. The decor is pretty simple, there are three booths, counter seating and six to seven tables down the side. The owners/staff are friendly and will stop to talk, if they are not running their backsides off serving folks. The food is your simple breakfast fare (I've not been here for lunch), I usually order a omelette and my wife gets the veggie scramble. Comes with potatoes, hashed browns or country style and toast. Coffee, water, iced tea, hot tea and orange juice are some of the standard drinks offered. One day I have to take a picture. Meals for two run in the $35-$45 including tip. What a friendly, little cafe. The owners are so sweet and old but full of energy. I ordered a simple plate of corned beef hash with rice and eggs over easy and that came with biscuits and gravy. Sam's has been around for quite some time, and is not as American a cuisine as the name implies. More like Chinese-American. Mr. B grew up in South Stockton, and this little dive of a place was where he wanted to go and drum up some sweet memories from better than 50 years ago. I no longer recall the name of where he is from, but the chef is the real deal; he comes from a region of China known for their really good cuisine. We decided it would be breakfast on a Sunday. Surprisingly, it was not busy, but the majority of dishes flying out of the kitchen were typical American fare. We needed good, old fashioned, 1960's vintage, Cantonese food for breakfast, so we asked if we could order off the dinner menu. Of course, she said. So there it was...Black Bean Spare Ribs and a plate of Chinese fried chicken. And one salad, consisting of iceberg lettuce and some tomato chunks (lousy salad dressing choices). Oh yes, and a serving of rice for the Filipino guy. Not your typical breakfast, and not your typical Chinese meal. But it suited us quite well, and both entrees were great. The black bean spareribs tasted as good as the day he remembered so long ago. Delicious. The chicken, not greasy and still moist, with just a touch of a Chinese-flavored marinade, reminded us this was not a KFC wannabe. Better. The leftovers the next day were still sensational. This tiny cafe consists of 3 booths, 6 tables. There is seating for 5 at the counter and 3 small tables outside on the Pacific Ave. sidewalk. We were happy with our two dishes and will mark that down as a place to revisit and reminisce. read more

Can you say HUGE portion sizes! I'm talking the half order of chicken fried steak breakfast could feed an entire family. No exaggeration. My omelette was pretty good maybe a bit over cooked. This is the true meaning of "hidden gem". This is probably one of the best cafe's in town. I love that it's family run, portions are huge and the food comes fast. Absolutely love this place, and the family that runs it. I'm not a fan. This place was suggested to me as having the best breakfast in Stockton. While I think it's cool that you can eat waffles and fried rice in one sitting, the food just wasn't great. The restaurant was dirty from the tables to the silverware. I was super iffy about drinking the water because the cups didn't appear very clear. I read mixed reviews but quite honestly I never hold truth to any of it because everyone has different expectations and different taste buds. Seemed like a sketchy area so I actually stepped out to my car to get my backpack that contained my books and work laptop. The menu offer a variety. Gavin was set on pancakes and sausage links and I ordered the George's Special Omelette. It was either hash browns or country potatoes, I chose country potatoes. I opted for biscuit and gravy instead of toast. Took about 10 minutes. Not too bad. His pancake had a Mickey shape which was cute but the edges were over cooked and slightly burnt. His side of sausage links looked really sad. My omelette looked dry.. the biscuit and gravy was ok.. it is literally a biscuit w/ gravy poured on top. I could tell because the bottom of the biscuit was completely gravy-free. Quite subpar but for the price I cannot complain. Loved the wonderful service though. read more

Great tasting food, coffee, and service! I came in alone to have breakfast and it was really nice and quiet. I must've gotten lucky because I've read reviews where it's packed by popularity. I ordered the 2 eggs with country fried steak with hash browns and coffee. I requested my hash browns extra crispy and it came out just as that. The portions are good for the average person and it's really affordable too. Other than the great service, my favorite part of the meal is that my food came out hot. When you come here, expect to wait a little bit because it is a small diner and it is usually packed especially in the morning. My family and I were lucky to have gotten seats within 15 minutes. The food here is good, it's a mixture of breakfast, brunch and Chinese food. I like it because it has variety. The atmosphere was cute, very quant and homey traditional feel. There is a man who sings with his guitar there daily from my understanding. I had the chicken fried steak with biscuits and baked potatoes. It was tender but it felt like more breading and batter. The potatoes are mixed with some onions and bell peppers (a little flavorless) but still good. The other dishes are pancakes (3 layers of fluffiness) and the others had seafood fried rice with 2 eggs on top. I didn't try the fried rice but it seems to be the main hit when they come here. For me, the service was not good. When I tried to order the waitresses that works there seem to be kind of pushy. Instead of suggesting it was more of a demand on what you should get. We ordered fried chicken and we didn't get the chicken until all of us finished our meals. And instead of recognizing that it's still not coming out, the waitress said "sorry but you know those take a long time". The proper way of handling this is updating us by telling us that the chicken will take the longest to cook so expect the wait. They didn't check on us, and when I asked for a refill of water she gave me a dirty cup that clearly had a soda spill on my cup. Overall, I don't think I'll be coming back here. I think the food was good, but service plays a big part on it for me personally. If you're in the area, I think this place is something you should check out despite my experience. read more

I always love coming here. You can not go wrong with the service, food, and price. Have been going here for years and have never been disappointed. I like how they added more seating outside. For the prices, the food is great and aren't stingy with the amount of food that they give. Only $10.95 for a pancake combo (3 pancakes!), eggs, and a choice of meat. Their bacon is always nice and crispy. In the bay, that would be $14 minimum! The service is always great and check on you quite often. The food is quite fast as well. read more
