Loved my whole meal from start to finish at Hong Kong Cafe! The cafe is located at the north end of the Atlantic Times Square plaza in Monterey Park. There's a large underground garage for parking. We got lucky with a spot as a car was just leaving when we pulled in, so I'm not sure how hard it is to find parking during peak times, but there were a lot of cars coming in so I imagine it could be a bit difficult on weekends. We came to the cafe Saturday morning around 11:30 and managed to beat the lunch rush. They had tables available when we arrived, so my party of 4 was seated in a couple minutes once they prepared the table. It was quite spacious inside with plenty of space between each table, which made it easier for us with a bulky stroller. The decor was really fun to look at as well, as they have a lot of Hong Kong themed decoration. My friend got the Hong Kong milk tea to drink but it was pretty bad. He said the tea flavor was way too strong. I tried a sip and agree it wasn't very good. As expected of a Hong Kong cafe, the menu was large and had a huge selection of dishes. It took us a while to look through everything and figure out what we wanted. We ended up sharing the following dishes: #95 signature fish fillet ($19.95) - didn't know what to expect as there was no description of the dish on the menu. It was fried and coated in a sweet salty sauce. It was good but tasted pretty standard #120 Hainan chicken rice ($18.95) - probably my least favorite dish of the meal. It was served completely chilled, and the rice didn't have the fragrant chicken flavor I was expecting #151 seafood chow fun ($15.95) - this was my favorite dish! we got it with gravy for a change (we usually always get this dry) and it really came smothered in sauce. Despite that, we could still taste the wok hei in the rice noodle #176 grilled pork chop ($15.95) - pork chop was delicious! but the mushroom sauce we got on the side was very meh; it didn't have much flavor #176 grilled chicken steak ($15.95) - mostly one friend was eating this dish, but I tried a piece of the chicken and it was solid. They do a good job grilling their meats here! Portions are ginormous here. You can definitely get away with ordering 3-4 dishes for 4 people, but we wanted to have some leftovers for the next day so we ordered 5. We left happy and full :) read more

Love this place so muchh. The quality of their food is super authentic. Their menu has so many different items, drinks, and desserts. I typically get their hainan chicken rice plate, fried chicken wings, dried scallop and egg white fried rice, and a side of lemon iced tea. Their hainan chicken rice has a side of seasoning to dip the chicken in, as well as their seasoned rice which makes it super flavorful. The chicken wings are also super crispy and soft on the inside. And their scallop and egg white fried rice always tastes super authentic. I love that this place closes super late so it's always a perfect place to grab a late night snack/ dinner, or even to catch up with friends late at night. It's always super busy whenever I come (whether it's dinner time or late at night). We always get seated super fast despite the busy environment. The servers are always super attentive, fast, and always refills our drinks when it's empty (the lemon iced tea is refillable)!. I also love the decor inside: it's really nostalgic and pretty. I've been here twice now and left satisfied each time! My friend introduced me to this spot because of the ambiance--the decor inside really makes you feel like you're in Hong Kong. I love the bright lights and the vibes. All the food I've had here has been delicious as well. I've tried quite a few things on the menu and I've liked everything. One of my favorites here is the honey walnut shrimp! Pricing is fair and I'd say the food is authentic. Service here is pretty average. First time trying Hongkongese food! Ordered the HK bun with butter and the curry with beef brisket. The bun is worth the visit alone, with a subtle pineapple flavor that is not too sweet. It is delicate and crumbly and worth every cent. It reminded me of this Korean bakery bun, which I now realize is a shy parody of this bun. The curry also made me think of Korean curry. Conveniently located across from Courtyard Marriott Monterey Park where we stayed, the restaurant is part of the Chinese plaza with shops and other eateries. We came here for late night meal at 11pm or so, and it was still bustling with regulars. We tried the shrimp chow fun and fish congee, both tasted authentic and delicious. Total was about $40 out the door including tax and tips. However, my stomach didn't feel too well afterward. I don't know if it came from eating at this restaurant or there were other causes because my family members were completely fine. This place is OK. We went around 1:30pm on a Saturday and there was a line. Service is slow. Food is so so. I would not recommend the salted fish and chicken fried rice. Been here a few times now. The only bad experience I had was when they first opened. Their hours were messy. Went 3 times and it was always closed lol Every visit after was pleasant. We got seated pretty quickly even when they were busy. My most recent visit, the foods improved so much. We got a ribeye. I tried a piece and literally wanted the whole plate to myself lol it was so juicy and so tender!! The salted fish fried rice without chicken was delicious. It wasn't so salty. The rice was perfectly cooked. Bolognese was tasty. It was also not that salty. Perfecto amount of sauce and cheese. The vermicelli was surprisingly better than it looked. I wasn't expecting much from it. However, I noticed I kept eating it hahha The lemon iced tea was a let down. Even though they offered refills, but there were white stuff flowing around. The staff didn't even have an explanation for it. He even mistakenly took it for some passion fruit drinks and said it was some sugar they used. I did take-out instead of dine-in, but I'll have to come back to have a dine-in experience. It should be interesting and intriguing for sure. I ordered 4 dishes and 1 drink over the phone. My order was already ready when I got here. Cool beans! Everything was delicious especially the lamb stew... it wasn't gamey or anything. Vermicelli had really good wok flavor. It's not fancy so nothing knocked me off feet but that's what you'd expect from Hong Kong Cafe. The food is decent but the vibe is amazingly cool that is reminiscant of HK cafes that used to litter everywhere in the Monterey Park Alhambra park before the recent "mainland" restaurant invasion. :). I love the restaurant itself and the service is impeccable and efficient just as what you'd expect from HK. The place is very clean with a lot of cool neon lights and signs hanging everywhere. Bright LED signs hanging above to give you a feel of dining in Hong Kong! It stays open LATE LATE night to the point where you can come after concerts or sport games! Dare I say, this is my favorite cafe ever. Whenever my friends come over, I will always bring them here to enjoy a Hong Kong style cafe. This location specifically is located in Atlantic Times Square with plenty of underground parking available. It will get busy at times but the last level always has some parking available. The only downside about this plaza is that the elevators take forever to go up and down and certain staircases offered aren't maintained and will lead you to the outside trash can area and will have you walking around to try and find the hallway that leads to the plaza. My family and I came on a Thursday early-ish dinner around 6pm and there were a few tables available for us to sit at. You're greeted with a lot of Hong Kong staples, MTR signs, train station signs, the milk tea cart, and plenty more. There are plenty options for delicious food in their menu that cater different cravings. We got 4 different dishes and 2 drinks and the total came out to be $91 after tax and tips! Food: Sweet and Sour Sole Fish (8.2/10): This was my favorite dish growing up so there is some bias around my opinion. It's fried sole fish that's drenched in a sweet and sour sauce that has vegetables in it. If you've had sweet and sour pork, they use the same sauce but instead of pork, it's sole fish. There's a perfect amount of sauce on top and you won't run out before you finish your dish. Salted Chicken Wings and Squid (8/10): This one is an appetizer! It comes with 4 chicken wings and a lot of fried squid and garnished with peppers and green onions. I love that the fried squid isn't drenched in the batter and adds a nice thin crispy layer on top of the squid. The chicken wing does have a little bit of pinkness in the bones but it was perfectly cooked with juicy chicken and crispy skin! Ground Meat and Egg Rice (8/10): There's an over-easy egg on top of the rice and you break it so the yolk bleeds in and you have chunks of egg white mixed into the rice. It's ground meat, furikake(I think?), grilled onions, and white rice! There's a sauce In the ground meat but I'm not sure how to describe it but it tastes amazing. You definitely need to mix everything together until it's well combined. Grilled Chicken Steak w/ Mushroom Sauce (8/10): This is a staple to cafes (at least in my family and extended family)! It's a chicken breast pan fried to have a crispy skin and you dip it into a sauce of your choice! We usually get the mushroom sauce because it compliments the juicy chicken well. It's not a liquid-y sauce but more of a thicker creamy sauce. It also comes with a side of broccoli and corn so it doesn't feel as heavy. TDLR: It's a fine establishment that understands the balance between the price to taste ratio. Price things that are around the standard Chinese restaurant establishments, but make it taste a bit better than expected. Baked Sole over Rice (Cream Sauce): This is one of my guilty pleasures. I think they hit par when it comes to this. You get a decent amount of fish, the cream sauce doesn't overpower the overall vibe of the dish, and the cheese is just the right amount. I think it'll fill up the average person. Seafood Tofu Hotpot (comes with white rice): Again, another dish that's difficult to improve outside of using better ingredients. They did enough to make it good while keeping it at a fair price point. It's a good mix of seafood, tofu, and vegetables, and the sauce was the right blend. Curry Beef Brisket Flank (comes with white rice): The wildcard of the restaurant. People who love curry would say that it's not spicy enough, and people who just enjoy the curry flavor without the heat will just be able to tolerate the heat level. The gamble comes from the meat to tendon ratio, which I feel isn't standardized. If you enjoy both, then it shouldn't matter. But as a beef enjoyer who is not that big on tendons, it's a gamble. Signature Fish Fillet (comes with white rice): It's the classic sweet and salty blend in most Chinese restaurants that I find addicting. This place has a more peppery feel to it. It's gonna be hard to eat a lot of it, but those bites before you're sick and tired of the flavor bomb will be worth it. French Style Diced Beef Tenderloin (comes with white rice): I'm not gonna lie. I've had this in far too many Chinese restaurants. I have a hard time differentiating between all of them. What I'll tell you is that the beef is on the peppery end, but it's super soft. If you love slightly undercooked onions and mushrooms, you're in luck. Egg Tofu with Enoki Mushrooms (comes with white rice): Another Chinese restaurant classic that I find impossible to differentiate, but never have I ever been disappointed when ordering this. I will tell you that this is one of the perfect dishes to order if you're dining with vegetarians. Crispy Salt & Pepper Fish Fillet: They weren't lying when they said salt & pepper. It's a very salty piece of fried fish, and the peppers they tossed in there have a decent amount of heat. I'd stay away from this. Crispy Shrimp Spring Rolls: It's the appetizer for the kids (or adults who are being introduced to Chinese food). I'd only get this if someone really wants it or wants to try it. Salted Egg Shrimp: Normally, salted egg _______ is a luxurious delicacy. It's heavily sinful, but also very good. Unfortunately, this place's version is missing something. It's almost like they forgot an ingredient when mixing the sauce, so the overall flavor profile isn't popping out. It's a shame, I was expecting more. Shrimp Fried Rice: Stock standard. It's good, the shrimp pieces are sizable, and it's a good option for people who won't want white rice (which is included in many of the dishes) Hainanese Chicken w/ Rice: Many restaurants get this wrong, mainly just by giving boiled chicken and white rice, then just giving the correct sauces. This place doesn't do that. They get the chicken right, they get the rice right, and they at least got the ginger and scallion sauce, which was good. Overall, a good dish. Hong Kong Egg Waffle: This is supposed to be a dessert, but they served it along with the other food. By the time we got to this, it was already cold. The taste was decent though. Service: Classic Chinese restaurant with better standards. You order, and they give you what you asked for. Don't expect much, and they won't disappoint. Ambiance: It's giving Hong Kong food court x street side dining kind of vibe. I think people who've been to Hong Kong will understand and appreciate the vibe, while those who haven't will just have to take my word for it. read more

We ordered a few regular dinner items and everything came out hot, fresh, and in decent portions. The main reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the service attitude. There seemed to be some favoritism where Cantonese-speaking tables were helped ahead of others even though we arrived earlier. That part was frustrating and definitely affected the overall experience. Parking is shared in the lot, which can get a little tight depending on the time you go, but it's manageable. Absolutely cannot go wrong with this gem. It was packed on a Sunday during lunch/brunch hours and rightfully so. My favorite dish we ordered was the pineapple bun with butter. I dream of this bun. It's so soft and completely melts in your mouth. Second favorite was the steamed rice rolls. They fry the outside a bit so it's crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The sauce that goes on top is divine. The only dishes I wasn't a fan of was the baked noodle dishes (we got one macaroni with cream sauce and pork chop, and one tomato based with pork chop and spaghetti). Got the ribeye steak combo & indonesian fried rice. I chose pepper sauce for the ribeye steak and spaghetti. The ribeye was tender and juicy, but I did not like how 25% of the steak was fat, no edible meat (see picture). The indonesian fried rice was amazing but bit too oily/greasy for my liking. Overall, great portions for its pricing. Since I went on a saturday, the service was not too good probably due to crowds. We had to flag a worker down and remind them of a missing order. Let me just say out of all the restaurants I have dined near the area, Hong Kong Cafe just brings me back. This is one of my favorite restaurants, somewhere Id take my family and friends to. The star of the show is their seafood chow mein, packed with a variety of seafood and still crispy exterior despite the amount of the sauce. Their pan fried rice noodle roll is also remarkable! Its so crispy and the texture of the noodles are bouncy- not too peanutty as well! Their curry balls pack a lot of flavor, i recommend this just for the curry sauce as we tend to dip our other items in it as well. I also enjoy their salted wings- surprisingly juicy and flavorful. Salted calamari had a nice batter to it, along with the pork chops, which are a classic. Nonetheless i could go on about how much i love their food here. Loved this Hong Kong cafe (literally the name) in the San Gabriel area. Came with some friends for a late lunch on the weekend and our experience was great! We shared a variety of dishes: - HK Style "Bo-Law" Bun w/ butter: Warm, fluffy, crunchy, and sweet. I also liked the creamy butter. Usually I don't say this for these, but I was there was a bit more butter evenly spread out in the bun. - Australian Wagyu Beef Fried Rice: My friends' and my favorite dish of this visit. Generous amount of tender, juicy, and flavorful steak pieces mixed with a flavorful soy sauce fried rice and topped with a crispy fried egg on top. This was delicious. - Baked Pork Chop over pasta: This was tasty! I loved the rich and cheesy tomato sauce. Pasta was also cooked well. Pork chop was tasty, but wish it was crispier with less fat chunks. Would love to try this over rice. - Chicken Wings: Nicely fried, but pales in comparison to the other dishes. Wish it was seasoned more. - Orange chicken: Standard. Nothing special about it, but it was still crispy and tasty. Comes with rice. I especially loved the interior of this place. It was like we were dining on the streets of Hong Kong. The design is top tier. However, I'm a bit skeptical on the cleanliness of this place as they received a 'B' rating (pretty rare to see) and their bathrooms were pretty dirty. We ordered additional curry beef brisket but actually got quite full. Curry was spicy and tasty but the beef was in big chunks and a bit too lean. The French toast is not too sweet. It seems kind of ok. Food in general is good and service is friendly and helpful. I had the curry beef stew, and the beef was incredibly tender and full of flavor. The pineapple bun with butter was warm, soft, and delicious. Hong Kong style restaurant that replaced the old tasty garden. Food was decent, nothing too exciting. Portion sizes were a little small. Flavor was on point but for price point there are better options out there. Ordered indo fried rice, filet mignon cubes, walnut shrimp, and spicy chicken wings. The indo fried rice was our favorite item. The walnut shrimp and filet mignon cubes were decent. Probably wouldn't order them again since there are better restaurants serving those two dishes. I've been here on multiple occasions, and the food has been consistently delicious! I love their seafood udon, which is packed with different seafood like squid and shrimp. The noodles are always perfectly pan-fried, with savory, rich umami flavors! Their ribeye steak combo with the mushroom sauce and spaghetti is perfect too. I truly appreciated the cheerful and inviting atmosphere of the restaurant. The arcade games located at the front, accompanied by a robot resembling a transformer, evoked wonderful childhood memories. The wallpaper also brought to mind my previous visits to Hong Kong. I thoroughly enjoyed how this establishment transported me back to those cherished moments I had almost forgotten. Regarding the cuisine, I opted for the Curry Filet Of Sole Fish, influenced by the positive Yelp reviews. While I enjoyed the fish itself, it did not quite match my preference for Japanese curry. This particular curry presented a distinct aftertaste. My husband ordered a baked mixed seafood dish, which I had the pleasure of sampling. On my next visit, I intend to order that dish with fish for myself rather than just tasting it. I loved the adorable cup that my lemon iced tea came in. I was thankful for the free refill. Came here for the first time after my friend's sister wanting to come BACK to this place due to a good previous experience. I've been to HK Cafe's ORIGINAL location on Garvey in the past. Happy for them that they now have 3 MORE locations that are multiple times the size of the original AND expanded their menu. We had arrived around 1230P on a Friday afternoon and were instantly seated at a table (for our party of 5). Apparently this location took over the old Tasty Garden (i dont even know when that disappeared. was an ol fav place to go to...) We had ordered a few things to share on top of drinks for ourselves (2 iced HK lemon tea (free refills btw) and 1 iced HK milk tea). Drink's come in plastic cups, ready for taking away, if desired. HK STYLE "BO-LAW" BUN WITH BUTTER ($4.95) - Good size. Warm and Soft. FRIED INSTANT NOODLE WITH SPAM AND EGG ($15.95) - Surprisingly good. Kind of reminded me a little Singapore Rice Noodle but using instant noodle. Good flavor. BIG portion BAKED PORK CHOP WITH PASTA AND TOMATO SAUCE ($15.95) - Was a childhood memory. Wanted to compare to a place in Flushing, NY for similar dish. Baked pork chop was very tender and flavorful. Pasta was good. Tomato sauce was kind of reminescent of Prego pasta sauce lol... AUSTRALIAN WAGYU BEEF FRIED RICE ($24.95) - a bougie option that my friend's sister wanted. Kind of heavy on the dark soy sauce flavor. As expected from seemingly actual Australian wagyu beef, very tender and fatty. NOODLE (macaroni) WITH SPAM & EGG IN SOUP ($12.95) - another childhood memory from HK. Simple breakfast ! Quick service. English friendly but they quickly switched to canto as soon as they find out SOMEONE speaks canto (LOL oops i dont mind... just funny how fast they switched). I have been looking forward to this one for a while and Hong Kong Cafe on Atlantic did not disappoint. Walking in, the decor immediately sets the tone. Full HK vibes and well styled. We came with a group of 10 and did what any excited group of foodies would do -- we over ordered on purpose. Hainan chicken, pineapple bun, satay beef instant noodle, beef chow fun, egg tart, curry fishball, and more dishes than I even got pictures of. Everything landed. Not a single miss at the table, which is honestly impressive for a spread that large! The service was equally impressive. Keeping up with a table of 10 is no small feat and the staff handled it with ease. Attentive, friendly, and on top of it throughout the whole meal. Hong Kong Cafe is the real deal. The restaurant opens pretty late (up until 2 AM). [Parking]: The free underground parking structure is not the easiest lot to navigate, but majority of the time visitors should be able to find a parking spot in less than 15 minutes. [Atmosphere]: S-tier on the nostalgia decor with a Bumblebee the Autobot, mahjong tiles on the wall, neon signs, pictures of Hong Kong on the wall, and a cute design of Hong Kong on dining plates. [Service]: Mediocre service - food arrived on time, but the staff knocked over the milk tea container and did end up cleaning up the spill. [Menu]: There are over 180+ items listed on the menu so this is a jack of all trades cafe. Popular options include #144 Baked Pork Chop and #132 Beef Chow Fun. After a late night dinner, we ended up at the Hong Kong Cafe. The ambiance is definitely that of a themed restaurant. It was open though after 10pm and fit the bill for a place to lounge and enjoy some company over some fried squid and wings. Plus a coffee milk tea. For being so late, the service wasn't bad. Although it wasn't totally welcoming. More of a take your order, serve you and then leave you alone. We had to signal them to get more hot water as they wouldn't check up on us to see if we needed any refills. I would go back to try some of their other dishes, but I wouldn't have too high of expectations, just a more casual experience. read more

I decided to celebrate Valentine's Day at HK Cafe with my mother! This place was on my must eat food list and I finally tried it! I don't regret going! I usually go to Mama Lu for chines food but I have to say that HK Cafe is up there for me. The whole experience was just great. My mom and I waited less than 10 minutes to be seated. The ambiance in itself is indescribable. From the moment you step in you are transported to Hong Kong. I decided to stick to the dishes that I am most familiar with which are: Fried rice Kung pao Crispy chow mein with seafood Choy Sun Every bite is packed with flavor -- no lie! My mom could not get over the fact of how delicious the food was. I will be going back but this time with my whole family. They have to try this deliciousness. The flavor is spot on. The main reason I came here is because they are open super late (2am). This place was recommended to me by a family member so after a long day at work, I decided a delicious hot meal at 10pm was absolutely necessary. We were seated instantly upon arrival and the restaurant was still considerably busy with multiple parties at such a late hour. The restaurant felt very inviting and vibrant. The service was on the slower side but that's expected at 10pm. Our food order was taken quickly, although there is a QR code that you can scan and order food through if talking to people or waiting for servers isn't your favorite thing. The menu was easy to read with pictures of some of the dishes. I definitely ordered way too much for just two people but it was so worth it. Most of the food came out piping hot which made it so yummy. I was so impressed with all the food, I had to take pictures even if we'd already started eating. The desserts were especially delicious (hence the food being eaten in the photos) but they did come to the table somewhat cold, and I just know that if those desserts came out hot and fresh there would've been no photos at all. I left feeling so full and satisfied. OH! I can't forget to mention, that ALL OF THIS FOOD was $99.14 AFTER TAX!! A freaking steal in this economy. We got soy sauce chow mien, xo sauce beef udon, and tofu with enoki mushroom. Everything was so delicious! Good Cantonese comfort food. This is one of the best in SGV. They have everything, all the typical ABC dishes and fancy drinks. The Cantonese noodle and rice dishes are on point, fresh, and flavorful. Food is not overly greasy or processed. The atmosphere is lively, fun, and comfortable.
