All I can say is what a disappointment. After the menu changed from all barbecue, we decided to come back for dinner. While I absolutely understand that all restaurants are short-staffed right now, this place is a disaster. It took a while to order a bottle of wine. Then, we ordered an appetizer and dinner. An hour plus later, no one had even checked on us, and my husband had to tell someone we were still waiting for food. We got no apology for an hour plus wait. If you forgot to put in our order, no problem. Just say something. And then they forgot the soup, and we had no utensils. We poured our own wine all night. In fact, we never heard from any bartender from the time we order until we left. When we finished dinner, we waited another 30 minutes and again no one bothered to ask how our dinner was, and we had to ask for the check when the bar-back then yelled at us for asking. One of the bartenders then shook her head and tried to apologize - but actually didn't which was just bizarre. I've never seen someone act so unprofessionally at a restaurant. I suppose this would be marginally acceptable at a much lower point, but not with this menu. If you can't operate a restaurant with a baseline level of competency, don't. read more

This restaurant is basically 'brandy new' ; so they are working some of the kinks out. It is a high end establishment We went with another couple and all four of us had good meals and appetizers. I only had one issue. We went on a Monday due to the menu online stating they had a $25 Prix Fixe Dinner Menu which fit into our budget since we are a retired couple. Our waitress told me that they had just changed their menu to the Prix Fixe being available on Tue-Thurs and offered her apologies. I told her the menu on line still stated the Prix Fixe..as I was hoping they would honor their listing; but no such luck. I had to opt to find a meal that was close in price to the other meal I wanted, but I didn't get much bang for my buck since everything else is ala carte. Just to make it clear though, I could have opted for the lower priced bar menu; I just had my mind set on what was advertised and all of our meals were good. I thought about this for a day or two and went back online to look at their menu and again...they had not changed their $25 Prix Fixe Dinner Menu! So, I contacted them and aired my complaint hoping that they would maybe offer a consolation of a complimentary ANYTHING, but no such luck. I was told that they offered a Prime Rib special on Mondays and could have ordered that at the lowered price and hope that I return again. I responded that not everyone likes prime rib! I have since looked online again at the menu and it is now listing correct days for the Prix Fixe. I just think it would have been good customer service to have at least offered a small discount or a free dessert or appetizer on them. I do plan to return...but maybe not too soon. All I can say is WOW!!!! This place is amazing. We went to Samuel Slaters for a nice relaxing meal to catch up with old friends. We were greeted by a nicely lit walkway and smiling face at the desk. The décor was beautifully decorated with Webster lake décor. OF course, what else, you are right on the lake! We made reservations and did not have to wait. We were brought to our table and service was immediate. Our food was expertly prepared. The flavor was unbelievable. Very upscale! The chef was definitely top notch! We never felt rushed but the waitress was vey attentive. You couldn't ask for a better dining experience. I cant wait to go back! read more

I've dined here many times including shortly after they opened, for Mother's Day, before a show, with small groups of friends or family and with a larger group. I have never left disappointed. I enjoy that the menu changes seasonally so that while you might miss an old favorite, there are delicious new items to try. The cocktail menu also changes and always has something unique to offer (edible flowers anyone? Beautiful!). And don't forget dessert! The gluten free brownie is delish!! This place is a definite hidden gem and should be on your list of places to dine. read more

I've been brewing on this one for a while.... The atmosphere is gorgeous ..the appetizers were great!!! the drinks and the service were awesome !!! went with another couple and my husband.... everyone enjoyed their meal... I ordered a ribeye... medium rare... my steak came out ....it was a strip ...not a ribeye... it was bloody in the middle ...like seared Ahi tuna.... I told the waitress I thought that they gave me someone else's order.... as this was RARE!!!! and not a ribeye.... The steak was $28.... The manager came over with his walkie-talkie and informed me after 15 minutes and everyone else had eaten their meal... this was THEIR ribeye steak .... and this was medium rare!!!! Not good customer service... I expect to get exceptional for the price....,... very disappointing... worked in this industry for 12 years . that's not the way you treat people . So disappointed. We drove over an hour to come to Samuel Slater's to celebrate my wife's birthday. We had a 7:00 reservation and arrived on time. When we walked in, we were displeased to find that the hostess was less than welcoming and informed us that despite our reservation time, we had to wait 45 minutes to be seated because "the kitchen was backed up". When we were finally seated, our server was less than attentive, and made us wait 45 minutes to order our meal. Instead of apologizing for the wait, she did her best to avoid our table at all cost- even leaving our water pitcher empty for most of our time at the table. Our food took over an hour to come out of the kitchen, and was sub-par at best. The steak and duck were both undercooked. I approached the manager to express our displeasure, and he assured me that he would make it right with us. They brought out a freezer-burnt cake to celebrate my wife's birthday that was almost inedible. When the check came, they had taken off my wife's meal- a whopping $20. The bill was close to $250. We tipped the waitress 20%, as that is the appropriate thing to do. We are, however, extremely disappointed and appalled at the despicable service from the entire staff. We will not be visiting Samuel Slater's ever again. We were also completely disturbed that one of the wait staff was openly kissing one of the patrons next to us during our meal. Totally inappropriate at a "family-friendly" establishment. Not to mention the fact that the patron that he was kissing arrived after us, without a reservation, with more people than were in our party, and were served almost 45 minutes before us. It appears that this restaurant is based on who you know, and that special treatment is given to those who have personal connections to the staff. Save your money, and your time. read more

My wife and I have been to Samuel Slater's several times before C-19. Last night was the first after. We had reservations and ate on the open deck. Wait staff was great; food not so good. First everything was stone cold when it arrived....Slater's Sprouts were cold and had absolutely no taste at all... My wife's rib eye was way over cooked for medium rare with no spices or anything (except salt); tasteless. My Haddock was cooked fine, but stone cold; even the bed of rice.... Lastly the outdoor tables could use a complete cleaning. There were no place mats. Your flatware are sitting on a poorly cleaned wood table. A simple pressure washing of each table would clean the wood up to near original condition and be much more sanitary. Best part of the meal was dessert Molten Lava Cake! read more

First time dining at Samuel Slater's. A pleasant surprise! Finally a very good restaurant in this town full of fast food and pizza restaurants. It's on Webster Lake, it would have great views if it's was still light out. Nice decor, all new. The hostess greeted us and sat us right away. Our waitress was new and a little slow. She could have done a better did a job explaining the menu and informing us about the Wednesday Prix Fixe dinners. Prices are what you'd expect from an upscale restaurant, good value for the money. I had the American BBQ, my short ribs were perfect, the potato salad was fresh as well as the corn on the cob. The room was a little chilly as well as a little loud. Not terrible but some work on acoustics might help. The food and ambiance were much better than Point Breeze could ever be. read more

I have eaten here several times and was always pleased with the food. First day out on our boat and decided to order their dinner delivered dockside. Service was fast, server pleasant and masked, wine well chilled. We ordered the fish and chips dinner. Fish was fresh and well prepared. Cole slaw ok. But the French fries were horrible. Over cooked and so greasy and dripping with oil as to be inedible. Very disappointed. I expected better from this upscale restaurant. read more

Didn't Woo Us ! Thought we'd give this new restaurant a try after reading positive reviews. Made reservation on Open Table as it was an anniversary dinner. The restaurant is nice enough, the décor, etc. But the first thing we noticed was how loud it was, awful acoustics especially with the tables so close to one another. Definitely not a restaurant for a quiet intimate dinner. Ordered two apps, the Meat Candy, which was very good and a onion soup which was average at best. Didn't realize that they charge a extra dollar if you request blue cheese. Save the dollar and don't get the blue cheese if they ask. Entrees we ordered were a Seafood dish and the Scallops. The seafood dish was tasty but was overpowered by way too much risotto. As for the scallops...I should say what scallops. The dish came with five (5) scallops on a bed of mashed potatoes and corn succotash. The 5 scallops were cut in half so you really only received 2 and 1/2 sea scallops. So $26 dollars for 2 and 1/2 scallops on a bed of mashed potatoes, nice profit....We did order dessert which took at least 15-20 minutes to arrive after asking the waitress where it was. Small portion and the blueberries were still frozen. Guess they could have used another 15-20 minutes for them to thaw out. Not that it was such a big deal but you would have thought that since it was an anniversary dinner someone would have wished us a Happy Anniversary. read more

This establishment is very similar to Point Breeze in attitude and waitstaff. The food is good (acceptable), but their portions are even smaller. The waitstaff here is sparce/appears to be spread very thin. Hoping that they will improve as the location is pretty. read more

We went there on a Saturday night with a party of four. The wait staff was friendly but not attentive. There were two large parties already seated and this somehow affected our service. It was over an hour between when we ordered dinner and when we were served. The waitress did come by to let us know about the delay and on her second stop at the table half an hour later offered us free appetizers. It had already been an hour at that point and our dinner was brought out just as we ordered them. While everyone seemed at least pleased with their meal I found the olive oil poached tuna inedible. It had a strong fish odor and taste. Each of the four pieces had a different consistency and color. I was surprised that they even brought it out. Maybe the restaurant will improve over time, but I was very disappointed. read more

I expected more. With well seasoned owners and experienced staff, there we many things that fell short of expectations. Granted it was they first night open to the public and reservations are required, so they must be "working out the kinks". Sure its nice, its new. But the noise level was down right LOUD. Had to yell to have a conversation at our own table. So, nice view of the lake and outdoor event venue. Big bar with what appeared to be plenty of "help", and a couple of TV's. But service took an awful long time. Once at our table, our server was very pleasant, but seemed a bit overwhelmed. Drink & water order again, took way to long. And NO DOMESTIC beer, NO Budweiser or Miller products???? We are in Webster MA! So on to the food. Good selection of just about anything you want. Ordered the Caesar salad (they don't offer Anchovies!), the NY Strip with sides of squash & mashed potatoes. After the server apologized a number of times, our food arrived 1 hour and 50 minutes later. Really----and the salad was room temp, steak was cooked properly but served on a wood cutting board (not quite sure that will be very sanitary after a few weeks of use) the sides were tasty, but lukewarm. No salt and pepper on the table. When asked for some, they only have a salt mill for the table and a large pepper mill that the server will dispense? No pepper for the table?? I know it sounds like I'm bashing a newly opened establishment, but I'm not. I just expected more from seasoned owners & staff and a $300 bill. Yes we will give it another try, but a month or 2 from now. We wish best of luck to these awesome people on their new venture. read more

Terrible service - especially for a VIP fee! Good food. My husband and I were at a concert at Indian Ranch and decided to purchase the Samuel Slater's VIP to dine in the restaurant. This costs $25 per person. That's just to get in the door - this does not include food or drink. It took a while to be seated then after 15 minutes we had not been waited on, had empty water glasses and kept being ignored by everyone working there. We got someone's attention and it still took 10 minutes to for someone to come over. The food was really good. I ordered a Caesar salad with steak & my husband got the lobster roll. When our food came out we asked for the check then. We had finished our meals and I went to restroom (very clean & modern). When I came back our check was still not there. I hope they get it together soon, because the level of service did not match the food, view and price. read more

I had heard a lot about this restaurant, both good and bad. I was looking forward to trying it myself. My husband and i went on a Friday evening. I was happy to see that we could book a reservation through Open Table. They did a nice job on the building and the decor is very pretty. The restaurant sits right on Webster lake and we were lucky enough to get a table on the patio overlooking the water. The hostess was very professional and pleasant. Once we were seated, the busboy brought us water right away. The server came over just a few minutes later. She was sweet but obviously new at this type of job. She was very unsure of herself and apologized for everything, when there really was no reason to. She apologized that the bread had not been brought over yet, which was fine. She apologized that the drinks were taking a long time, which they really weren't. She apologized that the lobster strudel was taking too long, which is wasn't. We explained to her that we were there to enjoy the evening and weren't in any rush. She brought our drinks and then put her tray down on our table to take our order. Thats a no no. i have to say that although the aesthetics are beautiful, they have to do a better job to make it the whole package. our menus were paper inside a book, and the pages were all dirty and one of them torn. The service has to be better. Now the food..We had the lobster strudel appetizer which came out piping hot. The flavors were delicious with nice chunks of lobster. my husband had the Veal and I had the Scallops. Both were very good, although my scallops were overcooked just slightly. Ordered the $45 40 day dry aged rib eye. It was 50% fat (which I took home for my dog). There is more meat on a McDonald's burger in a kids meal!! The salad is supposed to be included, but they charged me $4 (maybe for the blue cheese dressing) I could buy an entire bottle for that. The salad came out immediately followed by the fries I ordered to go with the steak, so I asked why I got the fries which is supposed to be with my steak. "Let me check" then the steak appeared. I would have liked to enjoy my salad before my meal got cold. This visit was horrible, my first visit was awful but they had just opened and the waiter was bad. The 2nd visit was great. Our waitress Kayla was dynamite and to have the GM visible on the floor during peak dining hours talking with patrons and assisting the servers showed what a well managed, professional restaurant this is. A group of us tried Samuel Slater's last night to our collective enjoyment. We were greeted at the entrance and taken to our table right away that had great views of the lake. We sat inside but you should know they have outside dining overlooking the lake. Out of 7 different entrees, all were delicious and very reasonably priced. The beer and wine selection was outstanding, Service was fast and the waitress handled our herd of cats with patience and humor. There was even a free wine tasting going on so we could sample different wines before we purchased glasses with our meal. Every person wanted to come back to Samuel Slater's for another group dinner. Terrible experience at this restaurant tonight. Very loud, noisy with tables very close together. It's not a fancy place but nice enough decor. Long wait between bread and app then again between app and dinner. My husband received the wrong dinner and I received my salad at least 10 minutes after my entree. The prices are very high for what you get and the final indignity was the $9 peanut butter cheesecake dessert that was barely larger than my iPhone charger (less than 3 inches in diameter). When I complained, the manager said she took something off the bill. That turned out to be $1.93 (the original bill was $105.93 for dinner for 2. Our final bill was $104). For the wrong dinner, the late salad and the tiny dessert, you think they could do better than $1.93. I was told the owner was at the restaurant but when I asked to speak to him/her, they had mysteriously left the building. Definitely won't be going back there. read more
