I have ventured far and wide and all over Houston in search of good sushi, and Samurai takes the cake. The service is consistently great; I see the same sushi chef here every time, and I'm convinced he's some sort of wizard. We once asked him to make us a creative roll with whatever he pleased, and he presented us with an artful masterpiece of fish that was SO delicious I dreamt of it later. I haven't had a roll that was disappointing yet, but favorites include: Ozzy, American Hero, No Name, Red Moon, Nasa, Jalapeño roll, I could go on for days. To come here solely for hibachi is doing yourself a disservice. read more

How this place has such a high rating I have no idea. I went at 2 PM on a Saturday. Slow time, right? I was by myself and sat at the sushi bar. My waitress came by to take my drink order and I told her I would have a water, but I would like to order wine with my Sushi. She brought my water to me, but no wine menu? Weird. OK let me request and wine menu now. At any rate, I tell her what I like in my Sushi and if she has any suggestions. I'm pretty specific about what I like and tell her I like spicy, raw, not fried and no cream cheese. She acts a little put out to help or make suggestions and immediately points to something on the menu that is fried with cream cheese. Then, she proceeds to tell me I can get it without the cream cheese. OK?! So let me try this again, tell me some of the more popular rolls so I can take a look at them and decide for myself. At this point, she rambles off the popular items so quickly I'm struggling to keep up. As I'm reviewing these items, another person comes up and asks for my drink order and I told him I'm still waiting on the wine list. The wine list reads like the bottom shelf at Kroger's. Seriously?! It is a flipping joke. I settle on the Lamerca Prosecco because I figure it's the individual bottle and it will at least be served fresh. My Sushi is handed to me. The first one is called fish zero or something of that nature. I cannot exactly remember and it is OK. Fresh, has some nice flavor, but I'm not terribly excited about it. My second one comes out and I don't remember what it's called but it has orange oil on it and all you can taste is orange oil. It was seriously like eating the peel off an orange. I may have just as well just sat there and ate an orange because I could not taste any of the fish or anything else for that matter. This place is a joke. The food was worse than grocery store Sushi and the waitress acted like she was there to fulfill court appointed community service. I will not return. read more

Came here looking for sushi after a NASA trip with out-of-towners -- pleasantly surprised to find out its also a hibachi/teppenyaki joint!! We sat by the grill, so the fire was nice and toasty (esp since it was cold outside!) Had to wait a bit for our "table" to get full, but once the chef started cooking, he was fun & interactive, throwing pieces of egg into peoples' mouths and all sorts of crazy. If you're looking to entertain guests, bring them to this place, its definitely a fun "benihana" type of experience! For me though, I would totally go back because of the sushi and highly recommend it...tasted fresh, flavors blended well, and beautiful presentation. This place rocks I love the real samurai in a glass case and the decor atmosphere quiet classic music I love quiet music and the entertainment is great food wonderful I recommend the splash and meadow which is steak and shrimp with veggies and rice. Cooked in front of you with with fire smoke flying spatulas and even a little toy that pees oil. The kids have fun but I like to snuggle with a date on cold nights near the warm stove, I love being at a tablevwhere everyone can catch the rice in your mouth in the rice toss and then we can beat the other tables. The sushi is pretty good here. We love their pepper tuna sashimi as well. To be honest, though, the best thing about this is watching the drunk, fat, sunburned retards at the hibachi tables. This place is awful. My silverware had left over food stains on it. My table was also gross. Clearly it was not wiped down properly. The fried rice was not tasteful. Not sure if it was the soy sauce but it was nasty. The ginger dressing for the salad was very bland too. I've been to many hibachi restaurants and this is by far the nastiest. Would not recommend. I love Asian food. My girl says I'm half Asian because I'm always eating either Japenensw, Chinese, Indian...you name it. So for my birthday, I wanted to of course go get some sushi. I saw this place on Bay Area and decided to stop by because, though I love sushi, my girl isnt a huge fan. So I figured the hibachi availability would make the restaurant a crowd pleaser. I ordered the samurai roll and she ordered the crunchy roll. Both rolls were delicious. The fish was fresh and tasted as such. The wasabi was a good heat and the presentation was pleasing to the eyes. The hibachi was about average to me. I plan to got back, but I'll probably stick to the sushi next time. read more

I've been eating for occasionally for years and always enjoyed their sushi and hibachi. It had been a while since I ate there but my wife and I went in and we were surprised that their sushi menu was alot different. We picked out a couple "new" rolls and they were amazing!! My favorite by far is the "Zero Sea", it is sooo good!! For Hibachi, the Chateaubriand is really good.. Sometimes, like any Hibachi restaurant, you get a new guy and they don't cook the food too great.. But I've noticed the consistency here has always been pretty good. read more

Best sushi in Webster, Houston or within 200 miles. Their hibachi is very good also. I have been eating at this place for over ten years and I have never had a bad meal. The food is consitently great. And for the price, it is a steal of a deal. This is my husband and I's go to sushi place. The sushi is the freshest I have found in Houston and we refuse to go anywhere for sushi other than here. We always get the pepper tuna sushi with fried garlic and green onions on top. The house salad with the ginger dressing is also one of my favorites. This is the second time we visited Samurai Japanese Steak. The first time was the restaurant's other location in Bellaire. This location is really convenient to get to and the staff warmly greeted us upon our arrival. Since we ordered the Crispy Crab Roll and enjoyed it at the Bellaire location, we tried it at the Webster location as well. The Crispy Crab Roll did not disappoint and I was tempted to order more. However my wife and I wanted to try some of the other items on the menu such as the Spider Roll and Jalapeno Roll. Normally I am just content with California Rolls, but both the Spider Roll and Jalapeno Roll were very good. My wife ordered the Chicken Katsu Bento Box as her main entrée while I ordered the Steak and Shrimp off the Hibachi Grill. The Bento Box contains the Chicken Katsu, 5 or 6 California Rolls, Vegetable Tempura, Gyoza, a salad and a beautifully cut up orange. My steak and shrimp tasted really good, with the steak being really tender. I also recommend their Fried Rice. I have eaten fried rice at Japanese restaurants before, but the fried rice at Samurai Japanese Steak tastes particularly good. We left the restaurant really full, but extremely content. read more

Mediocre to poor is the best overall description of my visit the evening of 8/13/14. The service was not only slow, but they forgot to serve us the soup, which we had to remind them about it about 3 times. Then the so-called chef didn't make enough rice for all 7 of us so we again had to remind them about it and eventually they brought the white rice after we were almost done with dinner. The couple of times I tried to bring this to the attention of the hostess, she kept nodding but saying "pay me, pay me, pay me". Obviously the establishment wasn't interested in rectifying the problems; the hostess just wanted our money. So, after spending over $24 on forced gratuity for a very poor service, I asked the hostess if she would want us back and she shrugged her shoulders basically saying she didn't care either way. Well, I guess me spending over $172 for dinner isn't of significance for them, so not only my family and I will never go back to this establishment, I greatly caution any other potential patrons from going to this establishment. My boyfriend and I come here at least three times a month for the past few months. We love this place. The food is always good and we try new things every time we are here. Our server tonight was Michael, he's been out server for the fourth time now. He's good. I hate hovering servers and he's attentive without being overbearing. We haven't been here in a couple weeks and they hired a new hibachi chef. I never caught his name but I believe he said his last name was Mendoza. He is absolutely wonderful. We were constantly laughing and our food came out perfect. I have never had a better time here than tonight. I've had bad service once here but the food made up for it.
