Avoid this franchise! Unlike all the other Samurai Sams this location will greet you with snotty and disrespectful service and blatantly doesn't care if they have customers. When I placed my order I asked for extra sauce for the teriyaki bowls and when I arrived and received my order I checked my request was fulfilled. I received a teaspoon of sauce per bowl (see pic) to accommodate my extra sauce request. I asked the lady (supposedly the owners daughter) about the extra sauce I requested and she said that was it. Then I preceded to open the bowls I ordered and as I expected there was no sauce on the whole bowl. Just the chicken had a small amount of sauce. I asked her for more than a teaspoon of sauce and she said that would be an extra charge! She said we are already giving you free sauce. Lol I pointed to the open bowl (see pic) and I asked her if she thought a teaspoon of sauce would cover all the vegetables and rice in this bowl? She replied in a snotty condescending tone, "we charge for extra"!!! I asked to talk to a manager and he came out and said "these are our extra sauces and we already gave you some free." I again calmly asked him how this location thinks that a teaspoon of sauce could cover the rice and Vegetables in this bowl. Every other Samurai Sams give you enough sauce or the sauce is adequate with in the bowl. He replied very sarcastically "if you want more you will need to pay for it or go to another samurai Sams!" The customer service was non existent and it was crystal clear they don't have one ounce of respect or concern for their customers. There are so many choices for dinner in Phoenix. Finally found a good place for a rice bowl. Just moved to AZ and teriyaki restaurants were a dime a dozen. Searched Yelp and located Samurai's my wife got spicy chicken and it was quite hot. She generally adds spice but toned this order down with some regular sauce. It looks like they have some great choices other than just bowls so will be back to try other items. I have been a customer of this store since it opened in the late 90s, our family comes here at least once or twice a week. I happened to be in line behind the lady who left the poor review below on May 27, 2023, about "not getting enough teriyaki sauce" on her order. Let me just say that the woman caused an embarrassing scene as everyone in the restaurant watched on in horror. She was aggressive and full of rage. No one could believe the ruckus she was raising over such a trivial issue. She was told that extra sauce would be, if I am not mistaken, $1.25 or $1.35. She began demanding names and numbers of management over it. The poor staff, and the young lady behind the counter, handled the situation excellently. I was very impressed with how they kept calm and appreciated the superb customer service they offered to the rest of us once the confrontation ended. I'm super bummed to have to write this. I've always been a huge fan of Samurai Sam's. But the quality I've experienced has been going downhill for a while. We eat at the 67th ave and Loop-101 location several times a month. Lately, something has been wrong with the order almost every time. I've ignored it up to this point as mistakes happen, but tonight was too much. I entered the store around 7pm. Ordered three chicken bowls for my family along with a salad for my wife. "Sorry, no salad today." "Again?" I questioned, "That's like the third time in a month?" "Uhh yeah..." the cashier responded. "So then four chicken bowls, I guess." When the to-go order was ready, I looked inside the top two bowls (they were correct) and glanced at the third through the plastic and it seemed okay. Drove home, opened the bag and a strange smell came out. The kid's orders were fine. However my wife and I ordered basic large chicken bowls and received a shrimp bowl and a sweet-and-sour pineapple bowl with extra green peppers. Yuck. We paid $42 for a family meal and had to cook our own food again that night (the kids liked theirs though, so that's something.) I called the store around 7:30pm and asked for the manager. I explained that I just wanted a refund on the half of the order that was wrong. It took him several minutes to find the order. He put me on hold and kept asking me for the order number and the time of the order (he seemed very distracted). He then said that he couldn't do a partial refund without my card number or I'd have to come back to the store to swipe my card. I responded, "Seriously? I have to drive in? Even after I read you the receipt number? Can I email you the copy of the receipt?" He asked me to read my credit card number over the phone and I said no. It was clear he wanted to get off the phone so I just sighed and said goodbye. After we put the kids to bed, I checked the Samurai Sam's website and verified that the store closes at 9pm (it was then 8:15pm). I grabbed the two uneaten bowls along with my receipt and drove back to the store. At 8:30pm I reached the store and it was closed. A sign on the door said that it closes at 8pm. I double checked the website and Google Maps, and they both said 9pm. Between the weak service, the sloppy orders, and wrong hours on the website, I'm convinced that the workers at this location don't really care about the customers anymore. Samurai Sams has always been a favorite of mine. They offer lots of nutritional information for their food and the grub always has good flavor. Today's visit was as tasty as always. The young lady behind the counter was in good spirits and updated us regularly on the status of our food. Once delivered, my steak yakisoba bowl and my wife's chicken rice bowl were darn good. The only change over time seems to be the steak. It does not taste as good as it did years ago and can be a little chewy. Like chewing on fat chewy. I must like it enough though, given I order the same thing over and over again. This is my go to lunch spot. Not quite as good as Flame Broiler but it gets the job done. I love it because its close to school (Midwestern) and cheap! For the same amount of coin, I'd take some ghetto Chinese over a bowl at Samurai Sam's. This is obviously healthier than Chinese, there's no doubt. The Sumo Bowl ($10!) I ordered had better quality meats and vegetables than you'd find at a Chinese take out. Tasty, however, it was not. The ingredients were not seasoned enough for my tastes, and I did all I could to add some flavor. I added some soy sauce, Japanese red pepper and salt & pepper. Adding these after cooking proved pointless and I kind of suffered through the meal instead of enjoying it. This place has hands down the best chicken among all Samurai Sam's that I've been to. I've been coming here for over 5 years and their chicken is almost always fresh, not dry or tough. Many other Samurai Sam's locations' clearly serve chicken that was probably cooked hours before (has that tough exterior). I'm rating it five stars because I'm comparing it to other locations.
