Ordered The "Grant Avenue" for 3 family members that includes assorted greens, sliced seasoned Boneless Chicken Breast, Mandarin Orange Sections, Won Ton Strips and Walnuts. You have a choice of the following salad dressing: - Sesame Deluxe (House) - Italian Vinaigrette - Ranch - Classic Caesar - Bleu Cheese - Thousand Island - Hawaiian Balsamic - Balsamic Vinegar & Olive Oil A long time ago, they used to serve the salads in a tall cup with a dome cover. You would pour the dressing, put the cover on and shake, shake, shake. They now have it in a bento box but it still works that way. Also ordered 2 Bowls of their Tortilla Soup for all of us to share. The soup consists of tomatoes, shredded chicken, onions, garlic, cilantro roasted peppers, sour cream, Monterey Jack cheese and fresh cilantro. With the soup, you have a choice of French or Sour Dough bread with butter. The Tortilla Soup was a little spicy but that's where the bread comes in to lessen the heat for me. TLDR: Salad good, kinda pricy I actually really enjoyed my caesar salad! Since I work downtown and spend most of my job sitting in an office, I generally want something lighter for lunch. San Francisco Salad Co really hit the spot. The caesar dressing was really thick and tasted homemade (not sure if it actually is). The salad contained a healthy amount of chicken, some parmesan cheese, and croutons. It was the perfect lunch sized meal and I was definitely full after. It's a little pricy at around 13 dollars (with tip), but it's Hawai'i so I can't complain. Owner (??) is friendly and packs up all the necessary goodies (soup or bread and such) for you. Quite a few eating places to eat here, but San Francisco Salad Co makes a variety of great salads to select from and a salad dressings you can choose too! Salads are fresh and so delicious! Today, we got the oriental chicken salad (the grant) and it didn't disappoint! There was a short line, but service was good once it was my turn. Lunch on a budget and thinking to save on calories equals soup in the downtown area. This place has been here for years. I appreciate that it lasted through the pandemic and wanted to try the tortillas soup again. The staff seemed different and wondered if they changed ownership. I ordered the large soup and saw the man add chips first then add soup but not to the top. There is no seating and this is definitely a to go place so grab your grub then eat elsewhere. Soup tasted like it did 10 years ago, little spicy, tomato, cilantro, cumin and lotsa pepper. Soup is pretty filling but I think you should order a side so you are not hungry again in an hour. Still lusting over the perfect soup and salad lunch, this now grown salad enthusiast searched near and far for something to fit the craving. Enter San Francisco Salads. Now this place is NO Hale and Hearty Soups. There is no build your own salads, there is no wide variety of soups, BUT what they do have is freshly made, well prepared salads and delicious soups, even if the choices can be a bit monotonous. Where San Francisco Salads succeeds is in the quality not quantity of their offerings. All salad offerings are named after places/neighborhoods in San Francisco and run the gamut of a regular house type salad to several salad options with chicken to include caesar, oriental, greek, chef's salad, etc. and a salad option with salmon. You can tell the salads are prepared fresh daily and contain quality ingredients. The soup offerings are tomato basil, tortilla, sausage and potato and chicken and wild rice. I have only tried the tomato basil and the torilla soup but both are delicious with the tomato basil being a favorite. You also can select your choice of dressing and bread. Extra bread can be purchased for $1 apiece and soft drinks are also available for purchase. San Francisco Salads is a one man show with who I assume is the owner taking orders, payments and packing orders to go. Despite being a one-man operation, the wait is never too long and service is efficient, though not too friendly. Not too sweet/tangy/salty, and they give more than enough for your salad. Speaking of the salad - it may look plain and humble but I can't stress how FRESH it is! I find the soup to be very filling and loaded with large chunks of sausage and potatoes. The large size includes a roll or piece of bread and butter. I have tried several of the salads. The taste is a bit on the bland side, but that is to be expected for super healthy food that isn't cooked in butter or oil. Salt, pepper, and salad dressing are available if you choose to spice up your salad. My favorite so far has been the salmon salad. The gentleman who works the counter is friendly and I always look forward to conversing with him while he prepares my meal. I get it, downtown rent must be expensive and parking as well, profit hungry maybe? But if your the only worker..it'd be nice to start a rewards program or something similar. Fresh and healthy in Downtown! This is one of my go-to places when I'm craving a warm soup and salad on chilly days downtown. They usually have 4 types of soup the most popular is Tortilla. I've tried the chicken rice with fennel and Italian sausage with potato and they were both tasty and delicious. The Italian sausage one has a little kick to it but not overpowering. The combo soup and salad is priced at $7.50 which is decent for downtown prices, it also comes with a French, sourdough or taro roll. Salads are generous and the lettuce is crisp and fresh. Full salads range in price from 7-10$ many varieties to choose from. If there's a line don't worry it moves really fast as most people already know what they want to order. Parking- sorry this is downtown! If you work downtown this place is worth checking out but I wouldn't drive downtown just to eat here. read more

One of my new year's resolutions is to lose weight...while still eating good-tasting food that won't hurt my wallet. San Francisco Salad definitely meets all three criteria. They have a variety of salads and soups to choose from. If you get a regular/full-sized salad, it will be less than $8. And we're not talking about tiny, salads that will barely keep your hunger at bay, but a legit salad that is considered a meal. Their soup and salad combo includes a half salad and either a cup (12 oz) or bowl (16 oz) of soup. This combo is less than $8. I've tried the Union Square, which is a Caesar salad (includes grilled chicken, croutons, and cheese). It's classic and tastes good with the Hawaiian balsamic vinaigrette (the difference between a regular balsamic vinaigrette and the Hawaiian balsamic vinaigrette is the spices they include with the Hawaiian balsamic vinaigrette). My favorite is the Grant Avenue, which is an oriental chicken salad, with the house dressing, which is a sesame, slightly sweet dressing. The Grant Avenue comes with grilled chicken, fried won ton chips, mandarin oranges, and walnuts. I absolutely loved the crunch of the fried won tons and walnuts with the taste of the sesame dressing. I also tried their soups, which are delicious. While their tomato basil soup is good, my favorite soup is the Italian sausage and potato. The soup is a chicken stock with pieces of Italian sausages, which flavors the stock and the potatoes with a kick of spice. The potatoes were perfectly cooked and always tender. The potatoes and sausage make this soup a filling meal. In addition, the soup comes with bread and butter. One of my favorite soups to order when I'm cold or coming down with a cold. The prices are very reasonable for the amount of food that is provided and it's good, healthy food too! If you're ever in town during lunch on a weekday, definitely check this place out. read more

The guy at the counter wasn't very friendly (no smile), just took my order and went to get my salad and dressing. I asked to add a soup and he quickly walked back to get my soup. I got the Lombard Street Salad with Italian Vinaigrette and a bowl of Chicken & Rice wit Fennel soup. The salad and soup were both tasty, but I'm not sure I'd pay $14 again for a salad and a soup. It's not like the salad or soup were significantly better than Subway or Safeway. The place was empty and the service was fast, but the food wasn't memorable. I may go back again if I need to grab something quick but I'm going to look around for another salad and soup place; something with a more unique menu with daily specials. I kind of wish they pre mixed the ingredients with the dressing when you order since the box they give you is fairly packed (a good thing) but makes it hard to get a nice even mix (a less good thing). Totally unimportant, but I wish the names of the salads better corresponded to the themes the salads are going for. So now I'm working in a new part of downtown these days, another part of Bishop. Weirdly enough I've worked on other parts of Bishop and each area has its own ecosystem of "steps away" shops, food choices and other idiosyncrasies. This branch of San Francisco Salad is a welcome and familiar choice for healthy food. I like it a lot (Lloyd Christmas voice). I remember the person who works here from the old Pioneer Plaza location. He's nice and very fast at what he does. I want to say he is one of the owners, not 100% on that though. I had some great tomato basil soup the other day, a favorite from way back. 100% veggie ingredients. I had a sourdough roll with it and some butter. It was a perfect amount of food and the right type of food for what I needed at that moment, something that rarely happens in life. I was satisfied and happy having not eaten too much and knowing the food was good for me. The salads rock as always. I tend to go for the chicken topped salads. The chicken seems like it is poached maybe? I notice the herbs are nicely incorporated into the outer layer of the chicken which presents really well. Not sure how that is done. Very nice. Working close by, I came here to try it out. Once I got the soul and salad combo (with tortilla soup since it was recommended by yelpers). The combo salad was good, but I did not care for the tortilla soup. It was kind of spicy and needed more sour cream or something. Today, I got a tall cup of the salad with apples on it (I forget what it's called) with sesame house dressing... This salad tasted fresh and was pretty filling :) I also tried the tomato basil soup (which I liked way better than the tortilla). While they do give you a piece of bread (I opted for sourdough), I wish they gave a bigger piece lol. Overall, the 4/5 star review is for the salads mainly. I've worked around the corner from this place the past 8 months and I walk pass it everyday. I finally tried it and actually like it. The owner is nice and friendly. The other day I wanted something really crunchy so I went for the Oriental Chicken Salad. I like how it had the mandarin oranges, walnuts and won ton. The dressing is a house sesame, which is really good too. My co worker tried the Tortilla soup and highly recommended it. I even ask the owner and he said lots of people like his Tortilla soup. I went for the Italian sausage and potato soup and I liked it too. It kinda reminded me of oxtail soup where it has a bunch of spices inside. Next time I'll try the Tortilla soup. I've never really looked at a salad and thought, "wow, that looks great." But man, these look great. They're very clean and in healthy proportions. Dressings are great too. I love how there are different names and they're all so unique, masterfully crafted to maximize the chemistry between the flavors. Almost like a mixologist at a bar but with salads. If you're like me and need a little more, grab a cup of soup too. Tortilla soup is great, sausage one is awesome. I tried the Italian sausage potato soup and it was spicy. Different kinda spice but more of a black pepper spice. It comes with mixed greens and cherry tomatoes salad bf your choice of bread and salad dressing. From the get-go, my go-to was the half-portion Union Square, their version of a chicken Caesar salad. Here's the deal: San Francisco Salad offers salads with the freshest ingredients at competitive prices. Recently, if I'm not too hungry, I split a soup and salad combo with my mom at lunch. She takes the soup and I take the fresh green salad. Altogether, the meal costs a tad over $7. Pretty good considering the meal can fill up both me and my mother. I can't stress the quality of the vegetables. I just had a salad from Down to Earth and felt that the vegetables weren't as fresh as the vegetables I get in the salads by San Francisco Salad. I now feel equally disappointed by the vegetables at the salad bar at Whole Foods. The man who operates the joint is extremely skilled at what he does. Only one door works, and usually someone is holding the door since the line goes out the door by around noon. The man does everything from taking orders, grabbing the soup, salad, dressing and utensils, and ringing up each and every single customer. Props to him, because he keeps the line moving given his limited staffing. I suppose that if you've been in the business long enough, you have the expertise to run the show by yourself and do a good job at it.
