Pappardelle
Talesha C.

The tuna crudo was the best thing I've tasted in a long time. I don't even eat tuna, but this was so fresh and excellent in the sauce and oil it was in. Each bite was a burst of flavor. I highly recommend. The Sicilian Caesar was fine for a Caesar salad. The halibut was light and delicious over the pearl couscous. The pappardelle or Tagliatelle was the best dish. The sauce was prepared well. The pasta was cooked perfectly and soft to the bite. The meat in the pasta was excellent. Amazing dish. I would eat it three times a day. The Raspberry and Pistachio Gelato was spectacular. I don't think I would have asked for those flavors together, but they were excellent.

Lamb bolognese with whipped cheese. So yummy.

Food - delish!! Seriously amazing. Service - iffy. Spills, slow, really slow service. If they ask you if you want to keep your wine at the table, SAY YES. The top of the salad was dumped on the table. Someone eventually cleaned it up. Eventually got my requested cabernet but she slopped it on the glass and table and it was ignored. Location: worth it for us but expensive valet parking! We enjoyed the sidewalk dining but there was very loud street noise. If you want to have a conversation consider dining inside.

This patio is gorgeous and such a vibe!! I got the vodka rigatoni & it was delicious, but I wish the portion size was a little bit bigger. It was pretty busy when we went & we had a large group, so some drink orders slipped through the cracks. However, all the servers were very nice & apologetic and even gave us some complimentary champagne to make up for it. Beautiful place with solid food and great attentive staff!!

Came for a lunch meeting on a Friday noon. 12/5/2025. It was quite busy, but with reservation no worries to get seated. Tables were kind of close to each other so it does get loud and hard to hear if busy. The service and food were both great. Friendly server pointed out which one was the funny tasting Diet Cola and got to try the funny tasting Diet Cola! Ceasar salad was good, which the portion was enough to be shared with two people and the Classi Pizza, also split between the two of us, was really delicious. I was in Italy this year and made me think of pizza that I had in Italy. This is a great spot for Italian wood-fired pizza. Make sure to make reservation if coming here on a Friday noon!

We've been to San Morello multiple times now, and haven't regretted it once. The setting is very nice, and the area near the kitchen is my favorite. The service has usually been great, with recommendations and wine pairings that have been on point. And the food, man! Everything has been great from the specials to to the staples. The branzino is my personal favorite at this point. They can slow down a bit when it's jumping but that's to be expected. We'll definitely be back.

San Morello located in downtown Detroit focuses on authentic cuisine. Mostly focusing on Sicilian style offering a variety of pastas, pizzas, wood fired dishes. The chef driven restaurants focuses authentic and seasonal ingredients to pair his menu. The food we got was delicious we started with a honey ricotta that is served with bread. Lamb meatballs served in a delicious sauce, my grandmothers ravioli, the whole menu has something for everybody. The patio is great as it overlooks the Main Street in downtown Detroit. They have a bar setup outside on nice days. Service was fantastic we felt like we were extra special while dining with them. This is a great spot to grab dinner in downtown Detroit.

Friendly and attentive service at the bar, beautiful ambiance, and a tasty Classic pizza. The inside of San Morello is gorgeous. There's warm, dim lighting and chic finishing that makes this feel a little more elevated. Definitely seems like a date night spot! The Classic pizza tasted very good, but isn't what I would consider "Detroit style" from my understanding. Which is totally fine! Just making a note for out-of-towners like myself who may expect it. It's absolutely a solid pizza, but know that it's a little pricey for a personal pizza. Worth it for the vibes if that's important to you! They had a pretty good selection of drinks, too. I enjoyed a Michigan IPA, drafting table 'rezolute' that was very good as well. Overall, it's a bit pricey but the atmosphere and attentive and kind service seems worth it!

Do not miss the beet salad! We came here for a board retreat dinner and everyone was super happy with their entrees. The focaccia was overdone. Desserts were excellent, albeit the donuts to share @ $24.00 was pretty skimpy. Service was excellent.

Holy mother of God. If I could give them 10 stars I would. Everything was phenomenal. Expensive, for sure, but absolutely amazing. The funny thing is we ended up here by accident because I made our brunch reservations for a place down the street for the wrong day ‍. One of our 7 women has always wanted to try this place and fortunately at 11:30 on Saturday morning they could fit us in! We would recommended everything we tried: -Latte (we had shots of Baileys and Kahlua on the side- highly HIGHLY recommend!) -chef Rachel's mini pastry bakery -frittata (huge!) -Italian Benedict -malted waffle (the best thing I've put in my mouth!) -rustic potatoes (I'm still drooling) -the egg sandwich Our server was so sweet, answered SO many questions, and was very prompt and helpful. The setting is very nice, def upscale, but still very comfortable. The total for 7 meals, 5 sides, 5 lattes with alcohol, and one pastry basket to share was just over $300.00. Not a place to bring the kids for your average weekend brunch, but not a place to miss for a special occasion.

While staying at the Shinola, had dinner at San Morello. Located on the lobby level. It's a large restaurant with plenty of seating and a bar. Good for both small and large parties. SERVICE: We had great service the whole time we stayed here. The servers were very attentive and friendly. They helped our party select very good entrees and dessert. FOOD: We had a large party so they did a prefixed menu. The food was prepared very well. Fresh and flavorful. Short-rib was super tender. Seafood option was fresh and cooked perfectly and, great pasta options. Don't forget to try their desserts - super tasty!!

What a beautiful restaurant! Loved the attentiveness of service (dedicated waitstaff to each table), and the decor, seating, plating and utensils were all on theme. We tried a lot of fun takes on classics (a Caesar cabbage), and of course had to get the house made pastas and pistachio cake. Yummy times and left full.

San Morello delivered a really solid dining experience. I had the bolognese and the arugula salad, and both were fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. The bolognese was hearty without being too heavy, and the salad balanced it out perfectly with a crisp bite. I also tried their Maestro 300 cocktail, which reminded me of a Paloma..refreshing and citrusy with just the right balance. A big highlight was the bartender, who was incredibly knowledgeable about their lineup of spirits. We ended up chatting for over 30 minutes, and it was clear they take pride in both the selection and the craft. Service overall was attentive and welcoming. Great food, great drinks, and an atmosphere that makes you want to come back.

Came to San Morellos for both Dinner and Breakfast as I was staying in the hotel. Overall, I enjoyed the service and the ambiance of the restaurant. The waitstaff were attentive and quite friendly. For dinner we had the squid ink pasta with the crab and corn and the tuna crudo. While the pasta was good, I found it to be quite bland and lacking in umami. I almost never add salt to anything I eat and I felt the need to add some. Also, there was barely any crab in the dish, which was disappointing considering the dish cost $38. For breakfast we had the hotel included breakfast and ordered off the a la carte menu, ordering the fruit plate, sheep's milk ricotta, and an egg dish that tasted somewhat like a pizza. Overall we enjoyed it, but breakfast took us over 2 hours, which is kind of crazy. I would say go to San Morello for the ambiance or the service. As for the food, I think there is still much to be desired.

It had pickled summer squash, a vegetable that I never considered pickling. Simply delicious. The asparagus was perfectly cooked and the sauce really enhanced it. Great side dish. I did not try the artichoke, but my wife and daughter both said they were amazing. For mains, I ordered the Aragosta fra Diavolo, my wife the Cappelletti and my daughters the Carbonara. All were delicious. The fra diavolo had a nice light kick of heat and loaded with lobster tail. Excellent dish. I highly recommend Shewolf. My first impression: Noisy! Lots of hard surfaces. Difficult to hear the hostess, server and my wife. The tables were appropriately spaced for diners and servers to work with no bump & grind. We started by sharing a dozen oysters and the pear/walnuts salad. The oysters were a bit small-ish; but otherwise, excellent. Server took a drink order from my wife, but skipped me. Eh? I flagged down another server to order a Pino. It took a surprisingly long time to arrive. On the plus side, I was offered a taste to insure it was satisfactory - it was. The pear salad w/walnuts was excellent. The pears were sliced paper-thin. One of the joys of eating a properly ripened pear is the juicy explosion and thinly sliced pears defeat the juicy explosion. If the pears were fully ripe, perhaps cube them? Weirdly; the two sides (mushrooms, potatoes) were served before the entrees. The server noticed, seemed surprised and withdrew the sides, returning with our entrees (lamb shoulder, steak). Then the side returned. Both entrees were warm-ish and the sides were hot. The 14-day, dry-aged steak was ordered medium-rare and was seasoned and prepared as ordered. Again; warm-ish, not hot. I expected better beefy flavor for a dry-aged steak. One end was a bit chewy. Tenderness improved as I got to the other end of the steak. I ordered it with horseradish. I will admit to being a weirdo who loves spicy horseradish (and wasabi) that will clean the sinuses - this was "Ohio-spice'd" horseradish ... not creamy, but less spicy than Arby's Horsey sauce. The mushroom and the potato sides were served hot from the kitchen. Both were excellent, no complaints. The presentation of the steak needs improvement. It was a properly prepared, lonely lump of brown, served on a white plate with cracked ceramic glaze. The lamb shoulder was the better entree. For some reason, my wife was expecting Middle Eastern seasoning. The menu did not mention Middle Eastern seasoning and she did not ask, so that's on her, not the kitchen. I thought it was excellent. Gripe: After the entrees arrived, our server did not return to ask if the entrees were satisfactory. She did return later to ask if we wanted a second round of drinks. We did ... We were offered dessert and ordered, but never asked if we wanted coffee or an after dinner drink. Both desserts were excellent. Will we return? Probably ... not. With tip; dinner for two was $286. At this price point I expect better: Less noise, better beef and flawless service.
