This was the most perfect dinner location before attending the Chris Brown and Usher concert at Ford field. Located just a short walk from the stadium I'm so happy we decided to dine here. We made a reservation which was a smart move as the restaurant seemed to fill up fast. The ambiance was nice and clean with indoor and outdoor seating. Food was yummy and apparently everything including the pasta is made in house. The summer menu items were delicious and I was elated they had grilled artichokes because they are my favorite! Hey there! We checked out San Morello with a few friends (there were four of us!), and it ended up being a pretty good time overall. The folks working there were genuinely super nice and made us feel welcome, and seriously, the cocktails were absolutely delicious. The service was a touch slower than we thought it might be, but honestly, everyone was still really friendly the whole time we were eating. Hey there! My biggest bummer was definitely the food sizes. Don't get me wrong, everything tasted great and was made really well, but the portions were just so tiny. Seriously, all four of us left feeling hungry, and that was a real letdown, especially when you think about how much it cost. I was really hoping for a meal that would fill us up a bit more, you know? The tuna crudo was the best thing I've tasted in a long time. I don't even eat tuna, but this was so fresh and excellent in the sauce and oil it was in. Each bite was a burst of flavor. I highly recommend. The Sicilian Caesar was fine for a Caesar salad. The halibut was light and delicious over the pearl couscous. The pappardelle or Tagliatelle was the best dish. The sauce was prepared well. The pasta was cooked perfectly and soft to the bite. The meat in the pasta was excellent. Amazing dish. I would eat it three times a day. The Raspberry and Pistachio Gelato was spectacular. I don't think I would have asked for those flavors together, but they were excellent. read more

Food - delish!! Seriously amazing. Service - iffy. Spills, slow, really slow service. If they ask you if you want to keep your wine at the table, SAY YES. The top of the salad was dumped on the table. Someone eventually cleaned it up. Eventually got my requested cabernet but she slopped it on the glass and table and it was ignored. Location: worth it for us but expensive valet parking! We enjoyed the sidewalk dining but there was very loud street noise. If you want to have a conversation consider dining inside. read more

Came for a lunch meeting on a Friday noon. 12/5/2025. It was quite busy, but with reservation no worries to get seated. Tables were kind of close to each other so it does get loud and hard to hear if busy. The service and food were both great. Friendly server pointed out which one was the funny tasting Diet Cola and got to try the funny tasting Diet Cola! Ceasar salad was good, which the portion was enough to be shared with two people and the Classi Pizza, also split between the two of us, was really delicious. We've been to San Morello multiple times now, and haven't regretted it once. The setting is very nice, and the area near the kitchen is my favorite. The service has usually been great, with recommendations and wine pairings that have been on point. And the food, man! Everything has been great from the specials to to the staples. The branzino is my personal favorite at this point. They can slow down a bit when it's jumping but that's to be expected. We'll definitely be back. read more

San Morello located in downtown Detroit focuses on authentic cuisine. Mostly focusing on Sicilian style offering a variety of pastas, pizzas, wood fired dishes. The chef driven restaurants focuses authentic and seasonal ingredients to pair his menu. The food we got was delicious we started with a honey ricotta that is served with bread. Lamb meatballs served in a delicious sauce, my grandmothers ravioli, the whole menu has something for everybody. The patio is great as it overlooks the Main Street in downtown Detroit. There's warm, dim lighting and chic finishing that makes this feel a little more elevated. Definitely seems like a date night spot! The Classic pizza tasted very good, but isn't what I would consider "Detroit style" from my understanding. Which is totally fine! Just making a note for out-of-towners like myself who may expect it. It's absolutely a solid pizza, but know that it's a little pricey for a personal pizza. Worth it for the vibes if that's important to you! They had a pretty good selection of drinks, too. I enjoyed a Michigan IPA, drafting table 'rezolute' that was very good as well. Overall, it's a bit pricey but the atmosphere and attentive and kind service seems worth it! read more

Ate here a few times in early July while staying at the Shinola Hotel. First of all, the food is pretty fantastic, had both lunch and breakfast and everything was top-notch, including the pizza and pasta. The reason for the 3-star review is entirely based on the service, which is quite lacking. First of all, the girl working the front stand was "new" and hadn't yet learned how to seat a table, so we sat there forever waiting for someone to walk us a few feet to a table. Then, our server had the slowest service ever (the restaurant wasn't crowded), and had no knowledge of the menu. Then, after we paid our bill and were leaving, he chased us down and said he had mistakenly billed one of our drinks on the wrong table, and needed us to sign a separate tab - honestly at that point the drink should've been comped and this was super awkward. This place could be great with the right staff. read more

The funny thing is we ended up here by accident because I made our brunch reservations for a place down the street for the wrong day ‍. One of our 7 women has always wanted to try this place and fortunately at 11:30 on Saturday morning they could fit us in! What a beautiful restaurant! Loved the attentiveness of service (dedicated waitstaff to each table), and the decor, seating, plating and utensils were all on theme. San Morello delivered a really solid dining experience. I had the bolognese and the arugula salad, and both were fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. The bolognese was hearty without being too heavy, and the salad balanced it out perfectly with a crisp bite. I also tried their Maestro 300 cocktail, which reminded me of a Paloma..refreshing and citrusy with just the right balance. A big highlight was the bartender, who was incredibly knowledgeable about their lineup of spirits. We ended up chatting for over 30 minutes, and it was clear they take pride in both the selection and the craft. Service overall was attentive and welcoming. Came to San Morellos for both Dinner and Breakfast as I was staying in the hotel. Overall, I enjoyed the service and the ambiance of the restaurant. The waitstaff were attentive and quite friendly. For dinner we had the squid ink pasta with the crab and corn and the tuna crudo. While the pasta was good, I found it to be quite bland and lacking in umami. I almost never add salt to anything I eat and I felt the need to add some. Also, there was barely any crab in the dish, which was disappointing considering the dish cost $38. For breakfast we had the hotel included breakfast and ordered off the a la carte menu, ordering the fruit plate, sheep's milk ricotta, and an egg dish that tasted somewhat like a pizza. Overall we enjoyed it, but breakfast took us over 2 hours, which is kind of crazy. I would say go to San Morello for the ambiance or the service. As for the food, I think there is still much to be desired. read more

We went for brunch and it was fabulous!! Set against the backdrop of the Shinola Hotel the ambiance is very nice. It was very busy but they were able to seat us quickly. We started with Peach Bellini's and a variety of breads. The organic yogurt and berries were so delicious. Arguably the best yogurt parfait I've ever had. Overall I had a nice time here! The service was very attentive and swift. They even had someone come along and wipe the crumbs away after eating our appetizers. Only downside in my opinion was that they'd take plates away before you even finished eating a handheld bread. Oh and they charged extra service money for cutting and plating the cake my friend brought, which we all wouldn't preferred to cut the cake ourselves in that case! The food was good, but the main dishes were on the small side. I really liked the pesto dish and arugula salad which surprisingly had a lot of dressing so it wasn't too dry or bitter. I also liked the sheep milk cheese spread and it tasted great on the focaccia bread. The place was very dimly lit since we went at night time. I tried to add mushrooms and they wouldn't allow it even for an upcharge so that was disappointing. We've been here twice in the last few weeks and the experiences were both stellar. We came here for an anniversary dinner and forgot we had been gifted a gift card, so decided to do it again on a recent night we were doing a show at the Fisher. I've heard a lot of positive things, but wasn't prepared for this spot easily vaulting into my favorites list in Detroit (top 3?). The squash agnolotti is an absolutely incredible dish. We tried the meatballs last visit and they're also incredible. Service is prompt, friendly, has great recommendations. Interior is beautiful, with dim lighting. All the food we've tried is great. The ravioli we got this last visit was delicious, and the pasta we got with the agnolotti the past visit was also excellent and very rich. We had an amazing dining experience at San Morello. The family recipes are from Southern Italy. We both had My Grandmother's Ravioli which is one of the tastiest I have ever had. The Focaccia was very unique and delicious. It was thick and had a lemon flavored sauce. We had exceptional service. The restaurant was festively decorated for the holidays. The brunch menu was limited, with a few selections for appetizers, pizza, and entree. I opted to order their branzino and was pleasantly surprised by how tasty the dish was. The fish itself was flaky and moist, and nicely paired with a piccata sauce which was creamy, yet not overly heavy which was well balanced with just the right amount of citrus. The only thing was I wish the fish skin was more crispy. I ordered the classic wood fire pizza for the kids and unfortunately, they weren't a fan. I didn't try it myself so I can't comment on the taste but there were minimal cheese on there that it looked like it was just sauce and toppings. A few days later I was reviewing my credit card statement to see I was overcharged by almost 200%. I called and the staff said a manager would reach out shortly. After not hearing back for 3 days I called again. Finally, I received an email saying they would credit me back for the mischarge. However, they only credited my card back about 80%. Since reaching out again, the management has ghosted me (roughly 5 days). The management never called to apologize. For appetizers we ordered the lamb meatballs, ricotta cheese, and colorful cauliflower. The meatballs were super moist and the included sauce was the perfect touch! The flavor of the cauliflower was light yet still good. For entree I ordered the scallops (a total of 3) with the hazelnut puree on the side. THE SCALLOPS TOUCHED MY SOUL! EACH ONE COOKED TO PERFECTION and every bite made me melt. And the wine I had paired so well with it. As for the pièce de résistance, raspberry lemon sorbet! My taste buds could not be any happier. We liked the vibe, good atmosphere. The restaurant is in a bustling downtown Detroit area full of restaurants and shops. I saw Clevelands improvement in urban development and it's great to see Detroit do the same. The menu is not extensive but has some nice selections. We have spent allot of time in NYC and Italy and although the food wasn't bad, it wasn't memorable. We had an appetizer and three different pasta dishes. We are comparing against some really good places so take that into consideration. My feeling most people will find it pretty good. We are not food snobs ha ha but have been blessed to have had some very good food including Italian over the years. Overall, worth a try noting this is based on one visit l, it's possible with variation we came on a down day or time.
