The fried chicken sammie is the best in Asheville and the love burger is amazing and so satisfying. The deserts here are also fabulous. Every single thing on the menu is fantastic. We stopped here on our way through Asheville. I was a bit concerned about it being in a gas station but there was no need. The food was delicious. We had to wait about 20 minutes for our order but it was worth it. The employees are very nice too. You could see they were hustling to get it all done. We called in an order on the way back from a hike. Two chicken sandwiches, two Buffalo chicken sandwiches and a grilled cheese on rye. Everything was very good. I was expecting a bag of chips so it was a delightful surprise to see homemade chips AND homemade pickles! Yum! This place is a new favorite for sure! Would never have believed it! Our GPS brought us to a gas station/food market, so we kept looking. Who woulda thought? Yes! It's in a corner of the mini mart. Food was outstanding! Chefs working the grill, and my wife loved her chicken. Best home made chips ever. My daughter and I are vegetarians, and struggle with southern cooking, so I was leery, but, Wow! Whoa. Gas station food is not normally something I expect to enjoy, but this place is killing it! Excellent sandwiches and breakfast items, but be aware they stop doing breakfast at 11am! I had the breakfast special, an omelet with ham, mushrooms, spinach and Swiss cheese. It was a huge portion and super delicious and filling! My boyfriend had the burger which had a fried cheese skirt on it that made it a bit messy, so if that's not your thing maybe try another one of their amazing sandwiches. Even though the restaurant is in a gas station, there is still a nice but small seating area set away from the store portion near the counter to order your food at. I have eaten at Sand Hill Kitchen perhaps a dozen times in my periodic trips through Asheville. Yes it is located in a gas station. It is like one of those stories where an itinerant chef who could be cooking in any restaurant instead opens in a funky unexpected place offering totally unexpected awesome food. The paradox is that it is one of the goldmine finds that I do not want to share because I do not want lines to get long, but at the same time I want to rave to let everyone know of this place. You will find creative spins and twists on offerings like a gourmet sandwiches or even breakfast items like decadent huevos rancheros. Ingredients are fresh and seasonal. The gravy on the biscuits and gravy should be sold by the quart to go. None of this is necessarily fast food; it is made to order, so they will accommodated some customization. My challenge is choosing what to get. Even the "Love Burger" excels over any competition. I cannot help but want a black pepper biscuit with cayenne honeyed chicken when there at breakfast, but neither do I want to miss out of the unique specials of the day. Sand Hill Kitchen belongs in any discussion of Asheville's best original food scene's and Chef Jamie in discussion of its most talented chefs. Came here for the breakfast burrito I saw on the menu... breakfast was over (sad face). Ordered the chicken sandwich and OMG IT IS AMAZING!!!! Don't let the location fool you... We recently moved to Asheville and made our first visit for lunch last week and we can't wait to return. Believe the hype, it's that wonderful! It's inside a section of a gas station convenience store so there's no atmosphere but the food more than makes up for it. This place is exceptional! Just a spot on the side of the road. Right next to the BP gas station. So don't miss it or you'll be sorry. The most delicious and moist chicken sandwich. It's hard to say exactly what kind of food this restaurant serves apart from the consistently good kind. From an excellent breakfast Burrito to the chicken biscuit and to the Bowl of Goodness you don't leave hungry. In fact you will be yearning for more at Lunch Time. From time to time the Huevos Rancheros and the Cheese Steak sandwich resurface and when the latter resurfaced today it blew my mind. I went to school in Philly and this one is as good as it gets. Not like some wannabe chains with tasteless frozen meats and soggy fries this sandwich and its sides are the real deal. Fresh meat cooked to perfection and loaded with mushrooms and sweet peppers and topped with cheese, your choice, oozes with flavor and will tantalize with every bite. When the Huevos Rancheros resurface again don't walk, run and get some. Danny's version merits serious praise. Sand Hill Kitchen is a Culinary Swiss Army Knife, making the most of a small space shared with a Gas Station on Sand Hill Road. With Chef Danny at the stove and Jamie, Emily, Kayla and Andy feeding him guest orders the place runs like a Porsche on steroids.
