    EGG SALAD SANDO
    Monica A.

Lovedddd this place! I tried the eggsalad sando and it was really good, the bread was so soft and the egg salad so flavorful. They have inside and outdoor seating and it's in the middle of downtown Dallas right infront if the eye so you really get to see the hustle and bustle of the city. The workers are super nice and great at recommending what to order.

    WAGYU BURGER KATSU SANDO

Stopped by Sando Ichi after visiting the Perot Museum of Nature and Science - great location for a post-museum bite, but fair warning: street parking is a challenge. We tried the Cajun ebi shrimp katsu sando, wagyu burger katsu sando, crispy Japanese sweet potatoes, and elote corn karaage. Flavor-wise, everything was solid to excellent - the shrimp katsu was especially tasty, and the sides were fun and well-seasoned. That said, the wagyu burger katsu was a letdown. Because it's deep-fried, the patty was severely overdone, which feels particularly disappointing when you're paying a premium for wagyu. At that point, the specialness of the meat is kind of lost. Which brings me to the biggest issue: the prices are crazy for what you get. Great flavors, yes - but the execution and value don't quite justify the cost. Worth trying once, especially if you're already in the area, but not somewhere I'm rushing back to anytime soon.

I've been going to sandoitchi since they had pop ups years ago. The store front is in downtown and it's pretty small and meant for a quick bite as there isn't a ton of seating. The service was good and standard. As for the food, I ordered the spicy katsu sandwich, yuzu arnold palmer, a strawberry matcha, a matcha donut and ube donut. Ngl I was disappointed with the flavor and amount of meat in the sandwich. It just tasted like buffalo sauce and only one slice of meat in a pretty small $12 sandwich. The strawberry matcha and yuzu palmer were great tho and I'd recommend. The donuts were okay and the matcha donut was not my favorite and was not well balanced and overpowered by the dough, but the ube donut was great since there was filling inside which really helped it. Overall, I'd recommend trying sandoitchi but was just disappointed with the portion sizing of the sandwich and matcha donut.

I was so excited to finally try Sandoitchi! I came here during lunch on a weekday and was able to get my food in a timely manner. I ordered the classic chicken katsu sando and fries. The fries were fantastic and extremely crispy. The sando was overall cooked well but the sauce on the chicken was just a little bit too sweet for me. The bread was good and the chicken was fried very nicely but the sauce was just a bit distracting. Overall, I would come back to this location but would just try a different item.

The spicy chicken katsu is incredible!! I enjoyed the egg Sando but it didn't blow my mind like the spicy katsu Going back for sure to eat there and not delivery. If it was good via delivery I'm sure fresh is absolutely fantastic!

I've been wanting to try this place ever since I got back from Japan and had cream Sando there. I was really surprised when I saw they had a watermelon one. I definitely had to try that. We came on Fourth of July and they were closed by the time we came so we came the next day. We went and got a Matcha at a different location and then came here for our breakfast Sandos. We got the watermelon one to share, and it was so delicious. The cream was thick and flavorful and wasn't too sweet. The only thing that I would say is not the same as the ones in Japan is the bread did not seem like it was made out of milk bread. The bread wasn't as soft as the ones in Japan. I still loved it though! I wanted to try some other ones but I thought I better just eat a half of one for now as to not eat too many calories. They had a bunch of different flavors and it looked like a lot of them were ready to go, so as soon as we ordered, one was handed to us. Service was very fast.

Tiny little counter inside with several cute little patio tables and chairs outside. The people working there today were all so sweet. I got a couple of drinks that had a ton of flavor (and calories) and tried their ube donut with matcha frosting which was unique and tasty and substantial and comes in an adorable little box. Great place to treat your teenage daughter.

Finally I checked out Sandoitchi, and yes--it's a bit on the pricier side (sandwiches start around $10), but I honestly think it's worth it. The flavor is there. I got the chicken katsu sando and it was hot, crispy, and super satisfying. Also tried the mango sando--which was really good too, like dessert in sandwich form . Definitely one of the better sando spots in the Dallas area. Considering they're right across from The Eye, I'm sure rent's not cheap, so the pricing makes sense. I also got the matcha latte, but it was a little bland for me--I like my matcha stronger.

Loved this cute, fast Japanese Sando shop! Great spicy chicken katsu sandwich and ube donuts! Quick and friendly service.

Sandoitchi has been on my radar for several years, and I am so happy to have finally been able to try it! It's a tiny spot conveniently located downtown; There are a few seats inside and most chairs being out front, however the staff is fairly quick, efficient, and super friendly with taking orders and giving recommendations. I ended up getting the truffle chicken sandwich, matcha donut (they ran out of the ube donut which they said was the most popular), and the strawberry matcha latte. Everything was delicious and fitting for a quick and not too heavy of a lunch. I think the price of the sandwich is a little steep for the size, however the flavor did not disappoint. I would definitely come back next time I'm in town!

I have been super interested to try the popular Japanese style sandos and found this spot in downtown Dallas. It's a super small spot with limited seating. Order at the counter and they make the sandwiches right behind you. I know concept is no crust but they make the sandwich then cut off the excess including chicken and toppings which is such a waste. The sandwiches unfortunately were super bland. I got the egg sando which needed salt desperately. The chicken one was too chewy and not enjoyable. Surprisingly enough, the fries were the most seasoned and overly so. I saw several takeout orders from this spot which is odd because they're definitely not worth it.

The food was really good! Super fun to get a few sandwiches and share with friends. The peach sandwich was our favorite but they were all delightful. We also got an arnold palmer and a matcha tea which I was told were very very delicious. It can get really busy over the weekend, be prepared to potentially wait for food standing up/taking your food to go. Parking in downtown is a nightmare and this establishment is small, so if you want to sit down and eat come early!!

Egg CAJUN EBI SHRIMP KATSU SANDO
    Rupa N.

With all the hype around Japanese sandwiches--and how good they looked--I had to give this place a try. I ordered the egg salad sando, a matcha latte, and fries. The egg salad sando was good but could have used a bit more seasoning, like salt or perhaps a touch of paprika or cayenne to enhance the flavor. The fries were pretty standard frozen fries, nothing particularly special. The matcha latte, however, seemed to be made with authentic matcha, which I appreciated. It came unsweetened, and the only sweetener option available was honey, so keep that in mind if you prefer a sweeter drink. There's very limited seating, and the shop closes early, so plan accordingly. We also tried the dessert fruit sandwich, which was enjoyable. As expected, the sandwiches are on the pricey side, making this more of a one-time experience unless you're really craving a Japanese sando. Parking in the area can be tricky--if you're lucky, you might find a spot nearby, but be prepared to pay at the meter or through an app. Overall, it's worth trying once for the experience, but I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way for it again.

Our table was seated directly beneath an air vent that was actively dripping water. During dinner, the water repeatedly dripped onto me. After notifying the staff the first time, they simply wiped down the vent while food was being served rather than offering to reseat our party. When I brought the issue to their attention a second time, the response was the same; they wiped it down, but the dripping continued throughout the remainder of the meal. For a restaurant at this price point, I expected a more proactive solution and better attention to guest comfort. Additionally, our group ordered the Demon Slayer 300 mL sake, priced at $55. After pouring the sake, our server, Adonis, took the bottle away with him, even though we understood that the bottle was intended to remain at the table for our party. This added to the confusion and frustration surrounding the overall experience. As a first-time guest, I was looking forward to an enjoyable dining experience, but the lack of attention to these issues left me disappointed. While the food may have been enjoyable, the service and handling of these concerns fell short of expectations, particularly given the cost of dining here.

I went to Japan recently. Japan was extraordinary. The food was extraordinary. The trains were extraordinary. The trains specifically deserve their own paragraph because I have never in my life encountered a public transportation system that operates with the precision and quiet dignity of the Japanese rail network. Trains that arrive at the exact second they are supposed to arrive. Trains that leave at the exact second they are supposed to leave. A whole society of people moving through stations the size of small cities with calm purpose and zero visible distress, consulting their phones, reading books, buying things from vending machines that should not logically exist inside a train station but do because Japan has decided that convenience is a human right and I agree completely. I tell you all of this to explain what happened at the train station when we tried to find pizza. Now I know what you are thinking. You went to Japan and you tried to find pizza. And yes. Yes we did. We had been eating spectacular Japanese food for several days running, food that made us question every culinary decision we had made in our entire lives up to that point, and then something happened in the group dynamic that can only be explained as a collective temporary insanity and somebody said what about pizza and instead of saying no we are in Japan and there is yakitori available within forty feet of us at all times, everybody said yeah okay pizza sounds good actually. The station we were in had approximately forty seven exits. I counted. Not all of them. I counted forty seven before I gave up counting and simply accepted that exits were infinite and directional signage was a suggestion. We had been told the pizza place was near exit B14. There was no exit B14. There was a B4 and a B41 and something that might have been B14 but was labeled in a way that required a level of kanji literacy I had not developed in the forty eight hours since landing. We walked for twenty two minutes. We passed the same Family Mart three times which I know because the same employee was stocking the same shelf each time and by the third pass he looked at us with an expression of gentle recognition and what I can only describe as compassionate pity. We never found the pizza place. We found a ramen shop instead and ate the best bowl of ramen of our collective lives and agreed to never speak of the pizza incident again except that I am speaking of it right now because it is directly relevant to the fact that when I came back to Dallas and needed Japanese food that did not require navigating a forty seven exit train station, I went to Tei Tei Robata Bar on Henderson Avenue and everything was immediately right with the world. Tei Tei has been on Henderson Avenue since the late nineties. Founder Teiichi Sakurai, who is also the man behind Tei An which if you have not been to Tei An please go immediately after reading this review and before doing anything else in your life, has been a James Beard semifinalist six times which is the kind of number that should be printed somewhere more prominently than it currently is, like on a highway billboard or possibly the side of a building. You walk in through a Japanese garden to get to the entrance. A Japanese garden. In Dallas. On Henderson Avenue. Between a taco place and a bar with a patio. I walked through it after the forty seven exit train station and my blood pressure dropped twelve points immediately and I have no medical evidence for this but I am confident it is true. Robata is the traditional Northern Japanese grill style. Wood charcoal. Low heat. Slow intention. Things arrive on skewers that have been coaxed rather than forced into deliciousness. The miso sea bass is the kind of dish that people describe by going quiet for a moment first. The cornflake shrimp is a thing that should not work as a concept and works completely as a reality. The daily special comes out in three parts, raw, robata, and more, and each part is a small argument for why you should be paying better attention to what you eat every day of your life. The sashimi sits in a case on ice near the kitchen and you can watch the chefs working with a calm precision that is genuinely meditative to observe, like a train system that runs on the exact second it is supposed to run, quiet and intentional and doing exactly what it is supposed to do without any drama about it. I sat at the sushi bar and ate things I will not fully describe because some experiences should be discovered and not spoiled. I thought about the ramen we found instead of the pizza we were looking for and decided that getting lost is sometimes the whole point.

The inside is tiny and there isn't even a proper "waiting" area. I've also tried coming here before, and there was also a long wait. I'm glad I decided to stick it out this time. We ordered the Wagyu sushi, Yakitori, Tonkotsu Miso Ramen, and the Tomato Ramen. The Wagyu sushi is torched right in front of you! The Wagyu was incredibly tender and the sauce was delicious. My only *nitpicky* critique is the rice was ever so slightly too moist, but that didn't stop me from inhaling the sushi. Next, the Yakitori was phenomenal. I've never had such tender chicken in my life. There was a nice layer of delicious sauce coating the skewer. Again, just a really nitpicky feedback I have was that I wish the Yakitori had the tiniest bit more char to it, but nevertheless was an incredible bite, and I'd 100% order again in a heartbeat. Onto the ramen - easily hands down one of the best ramen I've had in DFW. The broth is flavorful, and I love the noodles. I'm not sure if they're handmade from scratch, but they had the perfect thickness and chewiness. I also loved generous the portion of cha shu slices. Most other places only give you 1-2 thin slices, but that was not the case here. The pork was tender. The ajitama was solid too, although I prefer more of a soft-boiled egg. While the meat portion is more generous here, the tonkotsu didn't come with many vegetables. A lot of other ramen places I've been to will have corn, fried garlic, etc as default, but those are all additional cost add-ons here. The ramen was delicious without them though but just something to note. We also got the tomato ramen as it's the chef recommendation. The dish is very creative and the execution was great. Personally, I still prefer traditional ramens but it was certainly a nice culinary creation to try. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place and would come here again. Just be aware there may be a wait, and because they're so busy, you do have to proactively flag down staff. However, the staff are still really nice despite all the tasks they're juggling at once.

I want to extend a huge shout-out to our waiter, Vivian, for giving us insight on the food and bars/places to check around in Dallas! She went above and beyond :) Miso soup with silky tofu was delicious, they balanced out the yellow miso well with a hint of (maybe) crate-barrelled? For the nigiri I had the fatty tuna, a5 wagyu, and king salmon. They were all absolutely delicious and warped me to Japan. I was reminded of the same quality and taste - which checks out since they import their fish from Japan! The special kome roll was so delicious I ate it very slowly to savor every bite and memory of sushi in Japan. For dessert I had the deep fried cheesecake - I think the last time I had this I was 12 at Mr. sushi in Boston and all my memories came back. Grapes were too big though but everything else A+ The matcha tonic - I can't find it online but it was an incredible balance of fizzy, sweetness and matcha. The complexity of the drink makes me want to try more!

Not a problem since we enjoyed sitting on the patio and enjoying our drinks. The bartenders were great, fast and very friendly. I appreciate that before pouring my wine, the one bartender put in a lot of effort to buffing my glass. I ordered a plum wine to start, which is always delicious and sweet. We were seated a little earlier than 20 minutes, but unfortunately weren't greeted for a bit following that. They were super busy though. Our waiter was very nice and knowledgeable, and we stuck with splitting apps versus getting ramen. We ordered the shishito peppers, karaage, takoyaki, and edamame. To drink, we ordered and split the hot sake. The first plates came out pretty quickly, and were hot and delicious. Our hot sake took a while to be delivered, and we had to ask our waiter to double check it was still on the way. Then when it arrived, we had to fight off a bunch of gnats that kept landing on the bottle. I guess they wanted to party, too! The shishito peppers were definitely my favorite. They were perfectly coated in sauce and flavoring. The karaage was tender and tastes especially good when paired with the watermelon. takoyaki was served hot and it's a blast watching the Bonita flakes dance on the balls. The edamame, while good, needed to be stirred up because the salt distribution was heavy on certain pieces. We wished we could order dessert, but felt a bit rushed by the server. It was a little before 10pm, so we understand they're off at 11pm, but as a former server there's definitely better ways to keep up with the closing process that feels less intrusive to the patrons. Overall, we had a blast at Wabi house and the food was great. Maybe we went on an off night for service, but overall will definitely be back again!!

I've been to Michelin starred omakases (including tempura omakases) in Japan and New York, and this place honestly meets or comes extremely close to fitting the bill in terms of food and service. At the Michelin restaurants, you pay almost double the price for high quality ingredients, stellar service, ambiance, and a Japanese toilet :P For $100 pp for the tempura omakase at Takumi Hachi, you leave feeling full and satisfied, with a great selection of light and deliciously fried fritters. Each person gets a bowl of their divinely delicious tempura sauce with a generous amount of shaved daikon (not even lying when i say this is my favorite tempura sauce i've had, i could've just drank it on its own) and a selection of salts, with each course given a recommendation of which salt to use. In terms of ambiance: frankly speaking, if it was just the counter service omakase, i'd say it would feel more stuffy and unapproachable. But there is a general seating area that is not counter service where you can order off the menu for sushi, robata, and a la carte options. No dress code enforced or recommended, so you can be dining with all sorts of patrons with different sizes of families and children. whether or not this is your jam, it's still an extremely accessible place to dine for anyone and everyone. Reservations were incredibly easy to make (tempura omakase only From Sunday thru Thursday). Service was really kind and attentive, my husband's water literally never went below half empty. The only thing to take service to the next level is if they cleaned/wiped your plate/gave you a new plate between each course. American toilet. Lol. That's neither here nor there, but the bathroom is very clean lol! They were also sweet enough to read my reservation note for the occasion for dining and gifted us a delicious strawberry mousse, accompanied with a surprise tableside matcha to end the meal. I'm already looking forward to try their kaiseki set meal next time, and know that this place is a top contender to take my friends or loved ones for special occasions. I can't speak much for their sushi, but I added on some robata and grill menu items to the omakase and they were fantastic. Highly recommend the maitake mushroom tempura add on to your course. If you order ebi sushi, they offer to take the head once you're done eating the sushi and either put it in a miso soup or fry it for you, which i thought was a wonderful option. Also, we got tempura anago, something I've never had anywhere else, served two different ways. That alone was enough to make this experience stand out. For an experience like I had tonight, I felt as if the restaurant should be more full. Maybe because it is tucked away behind the other chain restaurants in Addison that are a little easier to see. Don't hesitate if you see the price tag, I definitely think you get a great value for food, service, and experience. We were there for two hours and enjoyed it very much. Thank goodness i don't have to drive all the way to downtown Dallas to enjoy some delicious Japanese food without the headache and hassle of finding parking and an accessible reservation.
