I really struggled with how to write this review. I have been periodically going to this Deli over a number of years. They roast their turkey fresh everyday but with Covid I don't know if they roast and sell out of the Turkey each day. In previous visits my family has ordered a roast Turkey sandwich with cranberry, I usually get a Poorboy with all of the produce. In the past, the family and I would give them a solid four star rating. I went today and took a friend with me. I ordered my usual Poorboy which came on a very soft, fresh and non-filling sweet roll with fresh produce and quality meats, so a solid four. My buddy ordered a mixed roast Turkey sandwich on a Dutch crunch roll but thought the white meat was a bit dry, he said the roll and produce were excellent. I ordered a Turkey and cranberry on a Dutch crunch roll for my wife, she thought even with the cranberry topping she could tell the white meat was a bit on the dry side. My apologies that I forgeot to take pictures of the sandwiches. They were good looking sandwiches, I liked mine but the consensus on the Turkey sandwiches today was that the Turkey was on the drier side. The consensus also is that the rolls they use are fresh and the best we have had. I did take pictures of the menus and the Deli. Overall today, a solid three but looking forward to four plus star Turkey sandwiches next trip. We will definitely try the Roast Turkey again, standing outside you get that great aroma of Turkey wafting through the air. read more

As an unofficial sandwich king, the sandwiches here are slightly above average; the reason for 3 instead of 4 stars is that I'm not a huge fan of turkey sandwiches. I ordered the Susan Special, which consisted of roasted turkey, bacon, cranberry, and Jack cheese on Dutch crunch bread. It was delicious! This is our go to for turkey sandwiches! I can promise you, nobody does it better. They bake turkeys daily and use actual turkey meat in their sandwiches. We also love to buy drum sticks and take home for soups. The owner is really kind! Last month, my husband stopped by searching for a turkey to cook for our parents, who had been away over seas for 5 years; meaning they had no Thanksgiving for the five years. I was shocked to find I had not reviewed Sandwich Board, so here I am. Sandwich Board was my go-to place for everything sandwiches Alameda. It's a popular spot for the Coast Guard because they are reasonably priced and they do fresh roasted turkey every morning which goes into the Jeff Special, my favorite sandwich to order. They offer a good selection of sandwich options as well as breads. Dutch crunch bread was my favorite. Each and every ingredient that goes into their sandwiches complement one another which is what makes them so popular. You can customize the condiments and veggies in the order, but why ruin a perfect sandwich unless you have dietary restrictions. When my family came out to visit, I brought my dad and introduced him to the Jeff Special. He always boasts about it, even to this day, that it's one of the best sandwich he has had in a long time. Total hole in the wall sandwich dive. Like can only fit 3-4 people inside when ordering, and that's without any social distancing. But when a sandwich place uses quality ingredients (doesn't have to be upscale or fancy), and churns out well constructed sandwiches in a timely manner, then I won't care much about how a place looks. This place exemplifies exactly that. So definitely nothing fancy here. No fancy spreads, no aioli variations, no tapenades, no arugula. But in what they do offer, everything is nice and fresh. I've only tried a couple of things, but in what I've had, I've been more than pleased. Roast Turkey Delight ($11/3.5*) So I came to check this place out for this. Well the turkey more specifically. You see they roast their own turkey here, so not that pressed deli meat, that is closer to ham than it is to turkey. Now even that deli turkey, I don't absolutely hate on it, but if I can find a home roasted version, I gotta show my lean. Ok yes the turkey is very homey, thick irregular cuts, stacked for a meaty bite. It is for real. But, like most home turkeys, it is also unfortunately quite bland. I brought the other half of my sandwich home and I lightly sprinkled salt and pepper on it, and it was so much better. So the "delight" part of the sandwich is an upgrade. It'll have avocado and sprouts and I think cheese. This definitely made the sandwich much more substantial and they use plain old smashed avocado. They were out of sprouts the day I went, but no biggie for me. Tuna/Egg Salad ($9/5*) Think a grandma's version, just much more professional. Super homey salads, done with no pretense. I actually really liked the 50/50 combo of tuna to egg salad. And I never order egg salad sandwiches anywhere, but for some reason, I just had a feeling that this place was gonna do it right. I also found out that I'm going to stick with the sliced breads here. I tried a roll for one of the sandwiches and it was too much bread. All breads are crazy fresh and soft, but the sliced was in much better proportions IMO. The light rye was money. Now that I know the digs for this place, it'll be so much easier for me to customize a sandwich to my liking. I'll also be calling in an order, so this is going to look like a regular occurrence. read more
