Sandwich Express has [HAD] been known for it's cheap good sandwich's, but after bad experiences on FOUR occasions I'm not coming back. 1st Visit: Don't remember what sandwich I ordered, but the bread was so hard that after eating it my gums were practically bleeding. 2nd Visit: Came in and ordered 30 eggrolls for a party a day in advance. Go in to pick them up the NEXT day and the SAME guy that took my order had no clue who I was and said I never placed and order. Some brain cells must have reconnected because 10 minutes later (after helping other customers as I waited) they found my tray of egg rolls. I was furious, but the egg rolls were actually pretty good. 3rd Visit: Ordered a Pork spare rib sandwich and gagged my first bite... it was chunk of pork fat. I opened the sandwich to find a long thick piece of fat and a small piece of actual meat. Gross! 4th Visit: (learned my lesson and knew not to order a sandwich) I figured I'd try my luck on another tray of 30 egg rolls ($0.75 a piece). I placed my order with a nice lady at the register. The next day I come back (30 minutes after the time we requested them to be ready) and was told that they needed another 20minues. Oddly, 5 minutes later I got my tray of egg rolls. When we opened the lid they were burnt and hard as a rock. (see picture) Everyone agreed that they had been re-fried and sold as fresh. I'm totally done with these people. I guess I should have learned my lesson earlier. I'm not going back and the 30 Vietnamese people at the dinner I was supposed to bring eggrolls to... well, they know exactly where NOT to go for sandwiches or eggrolls also. read more

It's been really hard finding a decent and affordable banh mi place in LA for some reason...Sometimes I have pretty bad cravings but until recently I've been able to satisfy those cravings by going to Sandwich Express thanks to my co-worker. I only work in the Valley and live in West LA so I can only indulge myself on the weekdays but I plan on coming very often... Sandwich Express is located in Reseda on a fairly busy street but there is ample street parking as well as a parking lot in the back. I've only ordered the banh mi's here but they offer a lot of other lunch foods as well such as banh cuon, smoothies, and of course Vietnamese iced coffee (cafe sua da). I've only been here twice but I'm smitten! I've only gotten the Banh Mi Saigon, which is pork belly (ba roi), which has pate, butter, pickled veggies, cilantro, and jalapenos. I love that they don't put cucumbers in the banh mi because that's my least favorite part haha. The meat is fatty and not dry at all, while the spreads are evenly placed onto the bread. I've had a lot of banh mi's where the pate is just too overpowering but they balance everything really well here. Their baguettes are also homemade, I believe, so it tastes really good altogether! This is a quiet little joint located in a non-descript area of Reseda, that you most likely would never frequent if you didn't know this place existed. The Banh Mi here is a combination of great taste and great price. For $3.00 you can get a whole 12 inch Banh Mi of many different variations. From the traditional Vietnamese cold cuts to BBQ pork, to vegetarian options. My favorite is the cold cuts with pate, which is one flavorful bite after another. The veggie option also is very good. Offering more taste that usually isn't connected with vegetarian options. The only down side for this place is, it is way the heck out there and unless you have to go by the area or you happen to work in that part of the valley, frequenting this place is a task that you set to accomplish. It's not one of those places where you tend to frequent for a quick bite at lunch or dinner, but we shouldn't knock them for their location as they seem to be pretty successful where they're at. read more

The main food that I like to get here is the banh mi. I honestly think that this is the best banh mi place in the valley. Also, where else are you going to find a big (foot long) baguette sandwich for 5 bucks? AND it's delicious so this has value written all over it. You can tell that the bread is made fresh and it's slightly buttery + crisp. I recommend ordering the number 1 if you like flavor and don't mind wild sandwiches. But if you're more of a plain sandwich kind of person that can't eat pork or beef, I would go for a number 10 (chicken). I like that they let you call in ahead of time to prepare the sandwich so when you get there you just pay for it and start devouring the thing. Beware of the jalapeños. Not bad for my first sandwich joint in the valley. Vietnamese sandwich that is! Although the bread wasn't all that. Really disappointed with my visit. I stood there for 4 minutes till someone even bothered to look over even though one of the staff members saw me and didn't say anything as they were too busy bagging up avocados. The floors were filthy there were multiple receipts and dust all over the floor, I had two flies land on me when I sat and waited for my food, and when he finished my sandwich he just put it on the counter without even telling me my order was ready. One of the ladies also had her entire shoulder on me putting the avocados on the counter like we still aren't in a pandemic or you shouldn't even be touching me in general.
