We love to stay at the Freestone Inn cabins at least once a year. There is no reason to leave to find great dining, the Sandy Butte Bistro has you covered. I love the view of the pond, and the mountains in the background. The service is always great, and the ambiance is terrific. This time I ordered the Jack's Burger, and I was a very happy diner. I honestly think this burger ranks up there among the best burgers I've ever had. The brioche bun was fresh and not smashed, the BBQ sauce and bacon were awesome. The roasted garlic aioli is what makes this burger legendary. Also, the fries were my favorite waffle fries, as they should be for a $15 burger. The Steak And Mushroom Panini was also incredible, very flavorful, and cooked perfectly . Without a doubt, a five star dinner. OMG I'd never go back even though the atmosphere is lovely. Worst service ever. And even worse food. I had the Cajun pasta with sausage and shrimp. The protein was good but the pasta was over cooked and all stuck together. My friend ordered an appetizer of a cheese and fruit plate. The cheese was good but the bunch of grapes that was on the plate half of them were rotten and we had to send them back. The bread came with herb flavored butter. So I asked for plain butter and the waitress told me they weren't sure they had any. Then she came back with a couple of packs of frozen butter. What kind of restaurant doesn't have real butter! When my meal came I asked for red pepper and again she was like I'm not sure we have any but she came back with a little saucer of red pepper.The lemondrops were too sweet. And my friend ordered a dry vodka martini and the bartender thought that that meant you use dry vermouth rather than really making a dry martini which is swishing the vermouth in the glass spilling it out and just using the vodka. We asked to speak to the manager and it turns out the manager was the bartender. And she was quite put off by the fact that we didn't Like the way she made the drink. When she served it she said here's your vodka straight up. But a dry martini is not vodka straight up. A bartender should know that.They did comp the cheese plate and they did comp the martini but you could tell that they were not happy with us. And we could hear the waitress and the bartender talking about us. So Unprofessional. Save your money read more

I finally broke my ribs curse. The last three times I ordered ribs on one of my hiking trips, they were anywhere from unsatisfactory to awful. Not this time. My ribs at Sandy Butte were, as they say, fall-off-the-bone tender and loaded with tasty barbecue sauce. I also enjoyed the potato salad and house-made cole slaw. My server, Brandy, was a fine girl (obscure song reference) working very hard under difficult circumstances. She is just the kind of person we need right now. I was really surprised by my experience here. I didn't expect it to be quite as good as it was. The staff were remarkably friendly. While the food isn't the best I've had, it was solid and generously portioned. The giant fireplace is cozy to sit by too. read more

Never been to the Freestone Inn before, but when I heard about the "Thursdays around the World" it was time to go. I missed the Sushi last month and this month they were doing Thai. We made reservations and got a booth near the window with a great view. They have a big drink menu with lots of local wines and spirits.....the drinks are pretty stiff, and you can't beat the "Moonshine Hot Toddy" !!! Decent Thai menu, Chicken Satay, fresh spring rolls, 2 Salads, Pho, Pad Thai, 3 curries and a bunch more. We got the Satay and the spring rolls for appetizers, the chicken in the satay was perfectly cooked, the peanut sauce was a little mild but still decent. The Spring rolls were HUGE and everything in them was super fresh.....very very good, you can't beat fresh spring rolls !!! Got the Thai beef salad as an entree, decent sized salad with like 5 medalions of beef on top. Ok this time of the year, were are they getting such amazing greens ??? Everything in the salad was SUPER fresh. The beef was perfectly cooked...perfectly. I am not a big beef eater but I must say it was some of the best I have ever had. The salad didn't have too much of a Thai taste, even with you put the sauce on it.....but it didn't matter cause it was amazing !!! My mom got the Pad Thai........my mom loves pad Thai and if we get Thai food 50 times she will get it 48 of those times. She said it was possibly the best she has ever had....and I have taken her to some of the top Thai places in Seattle when we lived on that side. My Dad got the Pad see ew, it looked pretty good and they had real think spaghetti style noodles, where alot of time you get wide egg noodles in this and I have noticed they get soggy too often, so compliments to the chef on the round noodles. My dad said it was real good and would deffinately get it again. I have eaten tons of Thai food and I don't know if this Thai had the strongest Thai flavors, but as food in general, the ingredients were super fresh and the food was all cooked to perfection.....way to go guys !!! Oh or waitress said they will be doing the Sushi again next month......SWEET !!!! read more
