WOW, the first word that comes to mind is authentic and the second is delicious. Came here for a bit to eat at the recommendation of my hotel a couple blocks away while in Key West and so glad I did. It reminds me of those whole in the wall places, or even a food truck, that I enjoy so much when exploring while on vacation. I watched while my sandwich was made and was a little concerned but the amount of mustard he added but it was delicious on their Authentic Cuban Sandwich. So great and so close to Cuba which add to the authentic factor for sure. I was so impressed on my recent trip to Key West, I ate here twice. And the Cuban Pork Plate was large. I would say it was large enough to split on a hot day in the keys. Seating was just along the counter wall but it was fun watching the food being prepared and all the customers stopping by for some great eats. And the price was excellent. It's attached to a laundry mat so you can have some breakfast, lunch or dinner while waiting to do you laundry too. I have been visiting Sandy's for over a decade. They used to stay open all night and would be busy at all hours. Fast forward some years, they still have almost the same menu, with some added items. The food is just as wonderful as it has ever been. Some of the best folks on the island work here. They are incredibly fast, yet very observant of orders and customers. I am not sure how they balance so well. I order a chicken empanada or chicken noodle soup often, with a cafe con leche (the BEST on the island). This is one of my favorite spots. The coffee is always flavorful and strong just like I like it and the food is always just right. If they had preferred customer points I'm sure I'd be a platinum member. While in Key West for the 2022 MotM I asked a friend who has called Key West home for close to 30+ years where to go for a good Cuban sandwich. Suz recommended Sandy's Cafe. The Cuban Mix did not disappoint! The roasted pork was just that roasted pork and not sliced deli type pork. This is a sandwich and coffee cafe attached to a laundromat. Have to laugh about the reviews that are expecting Michelin style.. this food is AWESOME!!!!! Real Cuban takeout, authentic, and delicious. I was hesitant to go at first (the laundromat) but everyone was ordering and looked so happy. I had tacos he had Cuban sandwich and fries. This was my favorite sandwich shop on the island 4 years ago. I was so excited to come back and try to eat here. The foods taste different. It's not as good! They change owner I think I came in the morning and order a pork plate, the cashier take down my order wrong and hand me a sandwich. She kept on arguing with me before giving me my foods. Anyway we still tipped her, come back again the next day to give it another chance. Same cashier was there, she was so rude to me. Give me the dirtiest look and almost didn't want to give me any service. She is young and beautiful yet nasty and rude. They act like they don't need customers! Best Cuban Mix in Key West.....and I've eaten a lot of Them over the years. It might be in my top 3 of all time. The pork makes all the difference. It's moist, flavorful and juicy. You can get a lot more than that at Sandy's and there service is quick, portion sizes are big and prices are reasonable. There is almost always a crowd of people outside their order window and that's for good reason.
