Gave this location a try...one of my favorites now. I personally like Tex-mex, but there is authentic if you want it. The pics don't do the place justice. It's a legit very clean restaurant. Never had bad service or food yet. The chips and salsa are gratis. The salsa is great! Frozen margs are awesome. The peach and piña colada are the best (huge as well, around $10 for the medium). I personally get the #24...the beans and rice are . They have homemade hot sauce, or cholula and another type of bottled. Both servers I have had....are class acts. Definitely will make this a take-out option as well. Give this place a try, nice parking lot, clean and cozy inside. read more

This is hands down the worst food I have ever eaten. I am not sure if something drastically changed since these other reviews were written, but the food was inedible. The restaurant looks clean, and the staff was friendly. However, we should have known there was a problem when the only food the staff would recommend is the fajitas. In retrospect, I probably should have ordered the fajitas, but I wanted to truly test the caliber of the restaurant. I had the mole; my mom had the combination with a chile relleno, taco, enchilada and rice and beans. The very first bite of food tasted dirty and was actually gritty in texture like dirt. The same with my mom's food. It wasn't just bland, mediocre food; this was bad food. Even the rice and beans were rancid and off-putting. We tried to force down the food (and we do not normally have trouble putting back food), but after maybe 5-10 bites each, we were getting ill. The server came to the table to ask if we were finished and needed boxes. When we said we were finished, but didn't need boxes, he didn't ask about the quality of the food or our nearly full plates. It appeared that he was used to this type of response. He just went and got the bill and dropped it off. The only edible part of the meal was the chips and salsa....neither made in-house. I hate to leave bad reviews, but this reached a level of horrid food that I didn't know was possible. Save yourself the same experience. read more

Was impressed when we got our appetizer here, the nacho platter with steak, shrimp and shrimp. It was very good. So at this point happy and ready for a good meal. I ordered the combo platter with chili relleno and beef burrito. I asked if the beef burrito was ground or shredded and was told ground but I could get shredded for an up charge I said that is great cause I'm not wild about the ground beef. No problem/ life's good. Food arrives and burrito is good but the chili relleno is ground beef not cheese. I've been to many Mexican restaurants actually worked in one for a few years in college and never heard of this. Later research shows that this is old school not served this way any more but can be. My problem here is 2 fold. First the menu should list its beef not cheese as most places serve it, second the waiter ( after I said I didn't like ground beef in the burrito) should have mentioned it I came with 3 other people 2 got fajitas which were fine the other a fish dish that looked good but was fine. The rice was rather plain and the beans are beans. If I could do 2 1/2 stars I would. Can't do 3. I won't go back, you can decide ... but can do better read more

Food was decent but service was poor. Waiter was rude to our group yet friendly to other tables without children. Our table ordered the mexican shrimp cocktail, a beef taco, the chicken monster burrito, and a fried ice cream for the child. The burrito was standard sized, not what I would consider a "monster" burrito. The shrimp cocktail was actually very good with plenty of fresh avocado, shrimp, and an excellent flavor. However, the beef taco was terribly bland and was mostly lettuce. Micheladas were offered as a cocktail, which was a nice surprise. Nonetheless, the rudeness and inattentiveness of the server and other staff dicated the experience for us. Plates were left uncleared on the table, yet the server seemed to rush our dining experience. Other tables in the restaurant were dirty, so incoming guests were herded into a small section. The cashier/manager was no more personable than the server. We eat out quite frequently in the Largo area and this was by far the worst treatment received by staff in any restaurant where we have dined. Having lived in Mexico and Central America, I was hoping for a pleasant experience as most individuals that I have encountered in those regions are very friendly and personable. This is certainly not the case at Santa Fe Mexican Grill! They are definitely not a kid-friendly restaurant as the staff continually glared at our well-behaved child; not to mention there were extremely limited menu options for children. The menu is huge and they even have horchata which is yummy. I got the special plate with a little of everything. Wow, was it huge, it came in three plates. My husband was looking at me like I was a competition eater. He had the chimichangas and they were huge too. All the combo dinners were $8.00 and only a few things that were 15 or 16. I tried this restaurant again because it was good the first time. The second time, not so good. As soon as I walked into the restaurant it smelled of fabuloso. A nasty sudo of pinesol. Let's start with the chips and salsa; bland and tastless. Had to put salt and pepper in it just so it tasted like something and the chips were old and stale. Now for the dinners, my husband and I both got the enchiladas and tamales dinner. Both of our tamales were burnt on the bottom and covered in a undiscribable sauce, it was pasty and tasteless. Like the other reviewer, our food was gritty like there was dirt in it. Our tamales were shredded beef on the inside but they still covered it in nasty ground beef then the disgusting sauce. I could have gotten better rice out of a box from the grocery store. It was dry and tasteless. The enchilada tasted just Ike everything else because they used the same sauce on everything. Absolutely love this place! The food is great. The drinks are also amazing. Prices are very good as well. We have been here at least 10 times. I have never left hungry or unhappy. I would recommend anything. Tonight I had the carnitas dinner. It was delicious! I've tried tacos, burritos, tamales, chicken dishes, etc. this is my new favorite in the area. This place is awesome!!! We have been a Carmelita's family for many many years now (Since good ol' Don Pablo's exited Pinellas). Anywho - we wanted to give a new place a try. We saw this place in passing and saw other good reviews on Yelp so decided to try it and VERY glad we did! This place is pretty big. The layout is sorta odd, restaurant splits like a fork in the road with food runners in the middle so it can appear a little hectic when you first walk in. But don't let deter you. We were sat quickly, and had chip and salsa delivered right away. Chips were good and salsa was your standard minced "restaurant style" salsa. Just the right amount of heat and tasted good. No complaints. As for the menu - LOTS of options! They have your standard combo plates of taco, enchiladas, burritos, etc. But, they also have a very large selection of fajita plates. More than your standard peppers, onions, and choice of meat. There should be something for everyone here! We ordered the 3 Amigos Fajitas which was steak, chicken, and shrimp then covered in queso type cheese. It was fantastic! All meats were cooked correctly and the cheese was of course a delicious addition. I had the combo of enchilada (beef) , crunchy beef taco, and chili ren. They all were very good. Taco was a tiny bite bland but I think it's because my other two options had a very good sauce to accompany them. Prices are very reasonable. We will be back! Worst Mexican food I've ever had. The margaritas were neon green and tasted like lemon-lime kool aid mixed with battery acid. The chicken tasted like it was from a can and the rice was dry and crunchy. Would never go back. Service was subpar and argumentative. When we asked to have the drinks taken off our bill because we didn't like them (and didn't drink them), we were told that everyone else who goes there loves them and we were basically wrong. Ate here for the 1st time last night. I had a combo meal of 1 chicken enchilada & 1 chicken taco with rice on the side. Chips & salsa were served to munch on while the meal was being prepared. The chips were fresh & the salsa was fair but needed some additional spices such as cilantro, cumin, etc. The chicken in the enchilada & taco was good & fresh. All white meat was used & I was very pleased with the amount of chicken served. The meal was good but, as a suggestion, would use a few more Mexican spices in the meat to make it taste more authentic & liven it up a bit. Also would suggest using a little more cheese & ensure the meal is nice & hot when serving. The interior of the restaurant was nice & clean. The service was excellent - the price was right. Of the Mexican restaurants in the area, this was the best & most clean one I have eaten in. I will be going back but do hope they consider adding a few more Mexican spices to the food. read more

The service was excellent and the food was great. I had originally ordered nachos, but the cheese sauce/queso they put on it was like water, which just makes the chips limp, and kind of gross before they even set it in front of me, so I sent it back. I then ordered two enchiladas, but our waiter said the same sauce comes on those. He was happy to substitute shredded cheese on the enchiladas for me and they were great. I'm usually not very understanding of mediocre Mexican restaurants. I'm always adamant about New Mexican places so I walked in expecting to be disappointed. I ordered El Molcajete which I've never had before. It was a very kool experience and everything we ordered was yummy. The chips are warm as the salsa is spicy but you can ask for mild. Service was very good from the moment we walked in and the inside is decorated cinco de mayo style. This has become our favorite go to place for Mexican food. It's a fun, relaxing place to drink and eat. Ask to be in Jaime's section - he's a great server. You'll become friends with him in no time. I've been super pleased with their vegetarian dishes. The grilled veggie fajitas are amazing and Enchiladas Suizas is another favorite. Awesome margaritas (they don't hold back on the tequila). This is by far the best mexican food I have had in Pinellas. Everything is fresh and super tasty. I had the veggie fajitas and they were suburb. Asked for some hot sauce and instead of a bottle they brought some sort of habanero sauce from the kitchen in a small bowl that was incredible... We finished it! Not sure what other yelpers have been smoking but this place is fresh and savory. This my 8th time here, and my only compliant would be the margaritas... Our server had very little patience, she was unaccommodating, and just down right rude (she actually rolled her eyes at one point).
