This is my first review ever. I waited about a week to decide if I even wanted to write this, but I felt so misled by the positive reviews. Ok so first when they brought out the chips and salsa there was a hair in one of the bowls, which immediately raised a red flag. Accidents happen I get it, but gross. Second, my husband and I split the Texas Margaritas which we were told have Gran Marnier and similar to Cadillac Margaritas. I've bartended for years and have had my fair share of cocktails, this had no Gran Ma!! The tequila tasted cheap and the mix was gross and sugary. Not worth the $. Third, our guacamole didn't taste like guacamole. My husband, who's a chef, said it tasted like Mexican squash. A cheaper alternative to avocados. We traded it in for queso, which was watery. Last, my dinner was completely inedible. My chicken chimi was baaaad. The chicken was totally dried out and my rice was old and hard. This is the first meal I've ever sent back. My husband didn't care for his dinner, but ate half so we took the other half home for the dogs. Our server was polite and took off my dinner and the dip. We love Santa Fe, it's cheap, they pour a heavy Margarita, and it's everything you want for a quick Mexican bite.

While ordering to go we order 3-4 different entrees with a large cheese dip and 2 salsas. They refused to give us more than their "small bag" of chips for all 3 dips split between 4 people. It needs to be at least one bag of chips per dip or per entree. When asking for an extra bag of chips we had to pay $5 because she had already given a bag to us and laughed in my face. We had great chicken and shrimp Pollo Santa Fe. It was a nice portion of food, and great taste. Salsa actually had a little heat, most places don't have heat because some don't like it. Our server was so nice and attentive, we were served quickly and had a great meal. The medium margarita was pretty big and tasty, actually had a good amount of tequila in it. It could be b/c we are from Texas and used to a totally different kind of Mexican food. The service is outstanding. Very friendly and nice. The restaurant is spacious and clean. The Margorona's were fantastic. Huge they were $16 each. On the way out. There was a RUDE RUDE RUDE hostess. Dark hair, older maybe in her 50's. She kinda killed the mood w/ her attitude. This restaurant was recommended to us from a relative that had came and visited and ate here. Pulling into the parking lot, the location is not very clean and it is rather rough looking. First off, when we arrived, there was no other customers in the building but one older lady sitting at the bar. There were about 8 staff standing around behind the bar and rolling silverware. We were sat in the bar area so in the same room as said staff, no one came to get our drink order or speak with us for at least 15-20 minutes after being seated. Once someone came and greeted us and we ordered our drinks, we then ordered food as well. the salsa was good as well as the queso. the chips were almost stale-like, very hard to chew. I ordered chicken fajitas and they were disgusting. the chicken was very chunky with visible veins and almost not cooked fully. A chimichanga was ordered at my table as well and it was pulled beef, looked almost like pulled pork. Needless to say, we will not be back. read more

This is the only standing location in Florida now. I was under the impression that the Pinellas Park location was moving to a new location but this is owned by the same people for sure and there are even staff members from the Pinellas Park location working here. It is a much larger location and stands by itself. This place has great food. The cheese is white and perfect. It isn't too runny or too thick. The salsa is a mild-hot but is consistent and the chips are usually warm when brought out. Sometimes you have to ask for a refill, sometimes, they will just bring it out to you. They have a small bar area with a full bar. The staff is friendly and listens and brings the food out as soon as it is ready. If you ask for cheese on top of something instead of the red sauce that it typically comes with, just know that they might charge but they might not. This place does get busy but has plenty of seating available and I have never had to wait for a table. You do have to take your bill up front to pay, just FYI. I will be back! read more

Been to this restaurant many times and enjoyed it until tonight. The first incident tonight was chips and salsa. I'm used to being served chips and salsa when I sit down. They didn't come and I asked for it. The waitress told me "she's busy" and walked away. Our server told us she can't serve us. Five minutes later she brought them and said "I'm sorry, she is cleaning the toilets". I was appalled to think that someone touching my food was cleaning the toilets first. For our meals I took the chimichangas and ate less than half when I found a chicken bone 3" long inside and sent it back. My husbands meal was ok but he ordered a mango margarita which had no mango flavor and he sent that back. When we got the bill they charged us for the margarita and half price for my meal. We asked for the manager and she argued with us finally agreed to remove my meal from the bill but she was yelling at us. Then when we went to pay, she charged us the same without removing my meal. She was yelling at us again. Finally she refunded the meal in cash making us feel so unwelcome. I know mistakes happen but I expect the servers and management to be gracious and apologize. I also don't expect to be charged when I'm served a meal that has the potential to kill me. I guess I'm funny that way. read more

Really disappointed tonight. We were stuck between two local spots to enjoy happy hour and Taco Tuesday at and this one had listed on their website better happy hour drinks. We've been here before and enjoyed the food and atmosphere but were really disappointed to find out not only would they not even honor the pricing on their website BUT they didn't have ANY drink specials what so ever. I must start this review by saying that I never eat Mexican food. It's been at least 20 years since I've said in a Mexican restaurant and ate Mexican food. I was told by the waiter that this is more Tex-Mex but I don't know the difference. Now let's talk about the food. I had something called Pollo Loco and it was fantastic. I ate it like it was going out of style and I was on death row. It was wonderful. The rice and beans were fantastic as well, not an afterthought. My husband had three different things a tamale. I honestly don't understand how anyone can eat here and consider this good authentic Mexican food. It's not! First, the guacamole has a bright lime green color and has no substance. Ive had better guacamole from a store bought container. Second, all the sodas are served flat, when I brought this up I think they turned up the carbonation slightly but it was still relatively flat. Who purposely serves flat soda, are they trying to pinch pennies??? Third, chips felt like they've been sitting around all day, stale warm chips. Fourth, I ordered pork carnitas dinner right before they bring out rest of my tables food my server lets me know they ran out of carnitas. Fifth, the food was bland and watery. So they brought me the steak fajitas and they were so bland had zero flavor. Where are the spices? The cumin, garlic, chili and other spices??? How can Mexican food be so horribly tasteless? This food is terrible! This would have been a -5 stars if I could have rated it appropriately. My wife and I ordered the beef steak ranchero and a chicken chimichanga with an order of chips and cheese dip... what a mistake! The beef ranchero was unseasoned, mostly fat and covered in a sad tomato sauce that also lacked any flavor, other than being overly salted. My wife's chicken chimichanga was actually a beef chimichanga (surprise!), the Spanish rice was void of all flavor and season and was clearly only boiled in a chicken broth-based water (not at all the way it should be), and our cheese dip was never delivered and was instead given salsa. Do yourself a favor and eat out of a trash can, at least you know your eating crap and a plus would be you didn't have to pay for it! read more

I have been a paying customer for many years at the Clearwater location; however, this is the second time that I have had a miserable experience on the phone. The short version is that in attempting to order a kids meal that hung up on me. The slightly longer version is that when I pointed out its possible to order on door dash I can get a kids meal... when I offered to have a side order of cheese quesadilla and side of rice and pay the extra $4 they still gave me a hard time and then hung up. My feeling is they don't understand how to deal with pricing online/takeout vs. in restaurant. My wife loves the soup enough that I will probably try again. I'll sum it up pretty concisely: if you like almost absent tequila from your Margarita and guacamole thinned out by sour cream and utterly bland meat, beans, and rice then this is your place. The chimichanga came with a tomato sauce, it was very small, and tasteless. The poppers were just ok, and I didn't even try the taco. I was so grossed out by everything else, I didn't even bother. I went with a combination of taco, chicken burrito and chalupa with a tamale ala carte. The chips were very good, but the salsa was very watery-not a worthy partner for the chips. I didn't care for the mole sauce, which was almost like a gravy. The taco was good, the chalupa and burrito very average. Overall, the food was barely average. Gave this location a try...one of my favorites now. I personally like Tex-mex, but there is authentic if you want it. The pics don't do the place justice. It's a legit very clean restaurant. Never had bad service or food yet. The chips and salsa are gratis. The salsa is great! Frozen margs are awesome. The peach and piña colada are the best (huge as well, around $10 for the medium). I personally get the #24...the beans and rice are . They have homemade hot sauce, or cholula and another type of bottled. Both servers I have had....are class acts.
