Finally I found an American eatery with quality. Nowadays, American eateries have gone to shit serving low quality food at warm or even cold temperatures. You won't find that here! The food here and the service was truly 5 star!! To be honest I don't even remember the last American eatery I've been to that served me super hot and fresh food. This place was the way food is supposed to be. I ordered the special which was a swordfish. It was without a doubt the best I've ever had. The cook here is a true culinary professional. The fish melted in my mouth, it was cooked to perfection! It was so fresh and when I would cut into it, steam was coming off of it. Wife had the other special, prime short rib. Again, same thing. Cooked to perfection and super fresh and hot! Server Chelsea was very good! I've almost given up going to American style eateries cuz they have all gone to shit but not this one! The food taste is good bit on the bland side, the prices were a little high for the quality of the products, ordered a pork duroc and when I asked what cut of the pork was it, the waiter said he did not knew, all he knew is that it was pounded, bit it was definitely not worth the price, the waygu burger does not taste like waygu at all nor it has the fat content of it maybe it has a small percentage, but again using a name to price it a little more expensive, that is not fair to the customer, caesar salad with chicken was good and chicken was cooked perfect! if it was not for all the brand and names of the products I would have been less disappointed but the names give you higher expectations... read more

Amazing food, amazing drinks and amazing service! Been here twice (during Covid, felt very safe) for brunch and lunch. Dishes offered were very varied. The jidori chicken sandwich was excellent; the slaw and house pickle made up for the slightly dry chicken. The clam and mussels petal couscous was really balanced and hit the spot; slightly creamy, but not too salty or rich as is often the case with this type of dish. And you can't go wrong with the drinks; I've tried 5 (went with a friend each time so we got to share) and all were great! read more

Ate here for the first time on 7/5/2021. Server was Rodolfo. Our order was not full of expensive items and Rodolfo noticed this and changed his attitude to reflect that. We observed him at other tables ordering lots of drinks etc having a high receipt total and he was very friendly to them, but was very fake to us and didn't give us the attention that was given to other tables. Our food came and still didn't have any silverware. Had to flag someone down for this! I was never offered a refill on my iced tea either. here's our main problem...our bill came to $28.50. We gave Rodolfo $40.00 and indicated we wanted our change back. When he gave us our change, he shorted us $1.50. Seriously? How many customers does he do this too thinking they won't notice? He can make good money doing this to every table. What a crook! Not coming back if this is how your servers operate. read more

Great new look for a local gem for many years. Now the food and drinks are beyond comparison to many restaurants in the area. Very spacious inside and patio with ocean views from every table. As a Laguna Beach resident, I've tried many restaurants in town over the years. I've returned to Sapphire, Cellar. Craft. Cook. many times since the restaurant opened about a year ago. The food is exceptional. My favorites include the halibut, steamed manilla clams with prawns and mussels and the duck meatball starter. I think this restaurant has the best location in town with the nicest and largest patio and the bonus of garage parking. The indoor dining room offers a more intimate setting. What a great spot for dinner, lunch or brunch. read more

I have been driving past the Old Pottery barn for 30 plus years, and never had a chance to stop by. Actually... there was this one time I went to Sapphire close to 7 p.m. and they didn't have any tables available. But last week (Friday night) I got lucky and while I still showed up without any reservations (unplanned stop) someone had cancelled theirs and we were seated in about 15 minutes. After eating here, I realized why this place is always busy. The food was excellent. We tried three entrees.. Farmer market vegetable and organic Italian Charro, American Wagyu beef burger and herb grilled Jidori chicken sandwich and everything was absolutely on point. We used to frequent Urth Caffe almost 3 to 4 times a year, but now I have found my new favorite place in Laguna beach for casual dining. I also tried their mocktail which was excellent. The only thing that was not top notch was the service, but the place was packed so I will attribute the lapse to them being slammed. Service was probably 3 stars out of possible 5 but everything else was a solid 5 stars. read more

Jorge was our server and he was SO nice and made sure my kids had the little things (like extra ketchup for the AMAZING fries). My wife and I had an amazing lunch! Went last night for a nice dinner and date night. We had reservations, reservations are strongly recommended. Because we had reservations, we were quite surprised to seated away from most of the dining. We were seated outside right up against the building next door's glass window with a public pathway alleyway. I was irritated and put off by that, especially seeing a pedestrian and his dog ten feet away. I almost wanted to leave. My husband asked the host if we could be moved elsewhere onto the outdoor patio area. She happily obliged. My husband had the Halibut, which was cooked very well. I had the Mignon cooked medium. It was very good, and flavorful. We had the Smoked Ring Cocktails, which were okay. A straight Bourbon would have probably hit the spot better. Marcela was our waitress. She was so friendly and nice, we didn't feel rushed with her, and her recommendations were wonderful. We ended the evening with Decaf and Meyer Creme Bruleé. Didn't taste any Meyer, but it was still very nice with the addition of fruit to top it. This place is pricey. Had we ended up being committed to having to sit where we were initially, With the reservation we had, I personally would have gotten up, excused myself and left. That seating is for Lunch or a Cocktail or two, okay, but certainly not for a special date night. That would of just killed it for me. The Fourth star is for Maricela! read more

i've seen staff here spray at birds and pigeons on occasion. it is an outdoor dining experience and of course there'll be birds out and about. not the way to go. i have had the halibut here before and i can say that it was better then than now, the plating looked like it was rushed and was just thrown on the plate, did not look appetizing. all in all, was really disappointed coming here recently. there could be better ways of handling the bird situation. read more

The service was fine (tipped 20%), the appetizers were fine, the wine was fine, and the lobster was fine. So why am I giving Sapphire one star? I ordered the filet mignon with a side of lobster. As I mentioned, the lobster was fine. However, this has to be the worst filet mignon I've ever had in my entire life! Have you ever taken a bite of a piece of steak that was so tough that you couldn't chew and swallow the whole piece, and so your discretely spit out the piece that can't be chewed any further? Well, I had to do that for EVERY bite of this filet mignon. I knew right away that I was in trouble, because I had trouble cutting through the filet mignon with a steak knife. Why didn't I complain or return it? Well, this wasn't a situation where it was overcooked, and could be remedied. No, this was a conscious decision by the chef to serve me a piece of meat so poor in quality that I was actually afraid of what would be served next if I sent it back! So, would I go back, considering that everything else was fine? No. Again, like I said, this wasn't an overcooked steak. This was an intentional decision to serve a filet mignon that was so poor in quality that it shouldn't have even been used for ground beef. One star. Update: The owner reached out to me to apologize for not meeting their standards of quality, and offered to make it right on a return visit, on the house. I appreciated the message and offer. I should note that I normally would have returned the filet during the meal, but we were there celebrating my daughter's birthday, and I didn't want to disrupt what was otherwise a very pleasant experience. I'm changing my rating to three stars, because this is how a well-managed restaurant should respond. read more

The food was to die for and service was great. My only complaint is that they provide you with pathetic wood cutlery to eat a gorgeous filet. I had the greatest difficulty cutting it. read more

Sapphire is the place to go in Laguna Beach! We have walked by it so many times and finally decided to stop in for dinner. The GM Xavier made our meal absolutely worth while. The staff was attentive and quick and the food (duck meatballs, Mac n cheese, pork ribs, etc) and drinks (the Mariposa) were absolutely phenomenal. All the tables were spaced out and covid friendly, and the overall atmosphere was warm and inviting. Will be bringing all visiting friends here! read more

Aaron not only messed up our order twice, when I complained he was so rude to me and made a sexist comment to me. Sorry, but we won't be going back soon. This was the fourth time we have been to the Sapphire and usually have a great time. I reserved outside seating over a week prior. When our party of 6 arrived we were told it would take an hour for outside seating so we went inside. Fabio, food and drinks were great for the first part of the bday dinner. Everything was great until the last half hour the chef thought it would be a great idea to Pound the crap out of meat with a hammer for the next day (on a metal counter in the kitchen!). It sounded like a construction site throughout the main dining area. One of the managers that I spoke to about the noise could have cared less. The pounding continued as we left. When we got outside it was a totally different atmosphere minus the construction noise. Save the noisy food prep for the next day. When you spend about $500 for a meal the customers shouldn't need to hear this! read more

We have been coming to Sapphire for years so we obviously do like it & would give them a higher rating - however, we were here for lunch a few days ago (my husband, our 2yr old grandson & myself). My husband & I got our meals - we were almost through with ours before our little grandson's meal came - they kept telling us: "just a little while longer". When 3 people order their meals & are seated together, everyone's food should arrive at the same time - end of story!!! Wow! Passed this place all weekend and was busy no matter what hour. That was our first indication we had to give this place a try. Our second indicator was overhearing some ladies in our hotel pool raving about the place. So glad we already had a reservation. We had the duck meatballs in a mushroom and pasta sauce. A little on the salty side but so good. Next we were all blown away with the heirloom tomato bisque soup. My cousin and I had the steak and my sister had the Sapphire salad. The kids had the mac and cheese with the chicken skin crackling. My steak was slightly undercooked but they took it back and offered to bring me another. I just had them cook it a little longer and it may have come back medium well, but still full of flavor. My cousin's steak was perfectly medium well the way she likes. Everyone was pretty pleased with their meal and they hit it out of the park with the ice cream cookie dessert. One of the best desserts I've ever had in a restaurant. read more

What a HUGE disappointment! I used to tell my friends that Sapphire Restaurant had the best burger in all of California. It was expensive, but worth a visit several times a year. When I went recently (April 22, 2021), I was looking forward to the giant Kobe cheese burger and the crispy skinny fries. Instead we got a much smaller Wagu burger with NO TASTE and big limp potatoes posing as french fries. When we asked the waiter about the differences, he explained that the restaurant had new owners. I realize there have been some supply chains interrupted due to COVID, but I sure hope these newer owners reconsider the current Wagu burger which doesn't compare to the previous Kobe burger. read more
