Our reservation was for 7:15 PM, and over an hour passed without any entrees being delivered. We placed an order for three appetizers and three entrees at the same time, yet there was a significant delay in receiving our food. As a restaurant manager with over eight years of experience, I am very familiar with the Aloha system, and I find it difficult to understand how such a delay could occur under these circumstances. Typically, when drinks, appetizers, and a salad are ordered, the appetizers and salad should be served first. However, our salad was never brought out, even after an hour of waiting. After finishing our appetizers, we waited another 15 minutes with no sign of our main courses. In an effort to satisfy our hunger, we ordered another round of macaroni and cheese and oysters, which arrived promptly, but our filet mignon was still nowhere to be found. When I asked the server, Melissa, for an update, she assured me that the order was coming right out. Ten more minutes passed, and still, no food arrived. It is clear that there is a serious issue with the restaurant's operations. Greg, the manager, needs to better understand the restaurant's systems and ensure that his team is properly trained. Such fundamental issues should not happen in a well-run establishment. To add to my frustration, when I voiced my concerns to Greg, his response was dismissive and unprofessional. Instead of addressing the situation, he asked, "What restaurant do you work at?" This response was completely unnecessary and left me feeling disrespected. Greg also checked on the table next to us multiple times but failed to visit our table even once. This experience was particularly disappointing as we were celebrating my best friend's birthday. We never even got to the main course, and we left feeling frustrated and hungry. I would strongly advise others to consider alternative dining options, such as the rooftop restaurant across the street, which I now wish we had chosen. For our main course, we ordered the filet mignon, which was accompanied by just a tablespoon of mashed potatoes and two pieces of asparagus. Additionally, we were charged $3.00 to split the vegetables, as my dad and I shared the steak. The service was lacking; no one checked in on us for drink refills, and it felt like the staff's attention was entirely focused on the outdoor tables. Once our dishes were cleared, the server eventually brought out a caramelized ice cream dessert for our daughter, yet no dessert options were mentioned for the rest of us until the bill arrived. This lack of attention to our dining experience was disappointing. Reflecting on the time when the original owners operated Sapphire, I remember the impeccable food and service. The recent remodel has left the interior feeling more like a high-end diner than the charming restaurant we once loved. I recently had the worst birthday experience at a Sapphire, and I can't even begin to express how disappointed I am. My two friends and I drove over 80 minutes to get there, eagerly anticipating a fun evening, but it quickly turned into a nightmare. First off, the alcohol was absolutely awful (Mariposa drink) totally unpalatable. To make things worse, we had to wait over an hour for our main dishes while we had reservations! I understand some delays happen, but after such a long wait, we were starving and frustrated. The situation only got worse when they brought our appetizer twice but never our main entree. It felt like nobody was paying attention to what was going on. Throughout the whole ordeal, the manager never came to check on us or apologize for the terrible experience. By the time I walked out, I was not only hungry but also stressed and upset. Hoping next year's birthday dinner turns out better for me! The only silver lining was that the new drinks the waitress brought were absolutely delicious, but it didn't make up for the fact that the food never arrived. It was a crushing way to end what was supposed to be a fun celebration. My husband had the wagyu burger with fries, which didn't live up to what he had hoped for either. The fries were soaked in oil, making them hard to enjoy. On a positive note, a kind stranger offered us a new spot at the table since the sun was directly on us, which was thoughtful. However, service was slow, and our waitress didn't seem well-versed in the menu or drinks. It also took quite a while to get our check. My husband mentioned that experiences like this make you appreciate other places, like The Ranch in Laguna Beach, that consistently deliver a better overall experience. He even said Yard House would be a better experience for less. The only highlight of the visit was the drinks, but even they weren't enough to make up for the overall experience. Finally have gotten a chance to write this review after coming here a handful of times. All I can say is "WOW" food is so tasteful and the view is amazing. The halibut and potatoes were cooked to perfection and I left wanting more because it was so tasty. We also had ordered the ribeye, which was requested to be medium rare. The steak was seasoned and came out hot, so I know they really make each guest a top priority. My wife and I shared the creme brule, and I hate to say it,t but I would sneak bites when she wasn't looking because I do not think I have had a better dessert... until we came back and tried the cookie/ice cream. I went to Sapphire for breakfast this morning and ordered their Meyer lemon waffle and it was fabulous! It came with raspberries blueberries and strawberries and the most delicious whipped cream ever! It was served with a delicious homemade maple syrup that I think may have had some lemon infused in it too. I also ordered a side of bacon and an orange juice. It was the most delicious breakfast I've had in recent memory. We sat on the patio which was shaded with umbrellas and enjoyed the view of the Pacific Ocean and palm trees that line the street on Pacific Coast Highway, in Laguna Beach. However, we have had mixed experiences with the rib eye, so we tend to avoid it. On the other hand, the schnitzel and halibut are fantastic options. I missed the way Sapphire used to be; food preparation quality was consistently excellent. My experience now is the total opposite. For instance, the bacon used to be made to order now appears to be a day old, or it may be that it was made in a microwave or has been sitting underneath a heat lamp for hours.
