OK. I thought I had reviewed this place because it's one of our go to places since it opened/we discovered it. We ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS get the white pizza and I have to say this last time it was exceptionally good. Not kidding. There was an hour in between when I grabbed it from being up north and finally got it home to the city (traffic) so maybe the flavors all melded together a bit more but it was savory and the robiola cheese was even fluffy two days later on reheat. We've also gotten the eggplant parm, the prime meatballs, and the garlic knots. All are really good. It's super clean and on our first visit last summer, they had converted some of the parking lot to outdoor seating. Inside is really nice. Stayed at the Westin and it was convenient to have dinner here although I was disappointed to see that they close the kitchen at 9pm which is pretty early for a restaurant connected to a busy hotel. Saranello's knocked it out of the park for my Dad's birthday! The staff are so wonderful and do a great job explaining their menu and help out with any questions relating to online ordering. We scheduled a curbside pick-up a day in advance of his birthday so that we could celebrate at home with a lovely meal. Saranello's had been on our list for quite some time, so we decided to give it a go. We went with the 6-person family-style meal and had TONS of leftovers to enjoy. Lots of bang for your buck here. Everything was so delicious. We had bread, salad, lemon chicken, meatballs, spaghetti bolognese, pasta, and a lovely chocolate mascarpone pie. It was all really top-notch and a delight. When entering it was extremely empty. The host, an older lady with red glasses greeted us. She was extremely weird and spazzed out and a bit strange and rude. Left us feeling weird. Mixed feelings. More of a 3.5 but I'll give them four because the service is friendly and the atmosphere is good. I really enjoy being here. There's a pleasant vibe and it's quiet enough to have a conversation without yelling. The bread they serve you with olive oil is among the best in the area, and the pasta definitely tastes homemade. I also enjoyed the calamari appetizer, though it was expensive and not the best I've had. My main quibble is they put cheese on everything without asking and without mentioning it in the menu description. I'm almost certain my shrimp and linguini had a touch of parmesan, which I despise. My wife, who's allergic to dairy, detected the taste of cheese/cream in her minestrone soup, where cheese definitely doesn't belong. This is after my wife went out of her way to ask the waiter what the soup's base was and was told vegetables. My wife also ordered a pasta with garlic and olive oil and it came soaked in cheese. She had to send it back. Again, she was told the pasta was simply pasta with those two ingredients. No one mentioned dairy when she ordered but they admitted it when she complained. This restaurant isn't alone in dumping cheese on everything, and it's a shame. Good Italian food doesn't need this ingredient, but if the restaurant thinks it does, at least make it clear so no one is disappointed. read more

Started out with hostess who found it difficult to crack a smile. Nice waitress who didn't like to come back and refill drinks or bread basket. Had a salad with no taste for $21. Minestrone soup tasted like Campbell's ! Chicken pesto with no chicken in it. When I asked if they could add more thatn 5 fork fulls of chicken they charged me $8 for it. This is a Lettuce Entertain You Restaurant that had a special "Restaurant Week menu". I live in the city and an hour away from this Wheeling, IL establishment but the menu selection for restaurant week looked so good, I wanted to take the drive and check them out. We went on 10/11/20. This restaurant is located in The Westin Chicago North Shore hotel. It was a nice, crisp sunny Fall day and when we arrived, the outdoor patio was set up nicely and we sat out there. We came at the lunch hour which was perfect as I understand they are pretty busy at dinnertime. Enrique was our server and he was one of the best servers I have ever had and I have ventured to alot of restaurants so that said alot. He was kind, helped in drink recommendations (I loved my drink!) and was very attentive with great customer service. We really enjoyed him being our server. [In other words, give him a RAISE, LOL] The food was DELECTABLE and I don't use that word often. From our salads which were delicious, fresh (beets were so good) to our main dish of the pistachio crusted whitefish with a melt in your mouth lemon butter sauce along with the short ribs which were tender with a delicious gravy and mashed potatoes to the dessert of pumpkin pie and WARM fresh apple crostada, I was just HAPPY, do you hear me? What was not to love? It was nice going into the hotel to see inside. Bathrooms were beautiful. Even though this place is far from me, I enjoyed the experience so much that I want to come back to experience the restaurant again and also stay at the hotel for a weekend getaway. We came here on a Saturday night with reservations at 5. The inside is gorgeous and we loved the ambiance of the restaurant. It's a great place for a date, or dinner with friends and family. We ordered the Brussels for an appetizer - huge portion, good flavor, but needed extra salt & pepper. We split the lasagna and chicken parm for our dinner. Both were enjoyable but nothing special. I would order something else next time. Service was fantastic and very fast. Damon was our server and he was very nice. I came here with family for a birthday and safe to say I will not go back. There certainly were many great aspects of my meal such as the Bread Calamari and chicken parm. All were perfectly cooked and I certainly would order again. Besides those few items the other things I got were not great. We got many things such as the Eggplant, the roasted beet salad, Mashed potatoes, and The braised beef ravioli. Starting with the Eggplant, it was way too heavily breaded. Next was the mashed potatoes. I would definitely steer clear of these as it tasted more like mac and cheese and was served in a vat of oil. I would recommend the french fries instead. The ravioli was great in flavor, its just that the combo of braised beef with ravioli and the red sauce is incredibly heavy. And finally the "roasted" beet salad. It was not roasted at all and tasted like there wasn't much care put into it. It's safe to say it wasn't touched at all. I recommend the Caesar salad instead... All in all this place used a more than decent amount of oil on their food, but the ones they didn't use oil on was wonderful. I enjoyed dinner with a friend. We had 5 pm reservations. I was one of the first people in the restaurant. Very nice and beautiful interior. We got to sit at a boot it was very nice. A lil tight from the table to the seat. Like if the table was 1 inch shorter. Our service was fantastic the ma. Was able to offer suggestions. We did order gnocchi. and they were out. We were the first be in the places. That was interesting. So we ended up with Uber lasagna and spare rib. Both are fantastic the lasagna sauce tasted fresh and light. It was really a good combination. we did get warm bread with some good olive oil. The only thing I didn't like was I'm allergic to mushrooms and I had the spare room and no we're in the menu did it say like in a mushroom gravy and I didn't think to ask so I was picking mushrooms out of my dinner. Another solid Lettuce Entertain You restaurant. Is it comparable to Maggiano's? Yes, I think so and there are a few things that I really like, right off the bat!! 1) there are banquet and party rooms so that you can have some privacy for your private event 2) the men's restroom is probably the most fancy restroom that I've ever been in. You get your own private urinal with frosted glass doors - so classy. 3) the friendly greeter and servers are highly professional and accommodating. I really felt like a valued guest. Our second time here and this time around, I was reminded of the warm bread basket - that was great and you will be offered seconds. Our white pizza was soft, hot and wonderful. The mushrooms were a nice touch. The eggplant Parmesan is the best Italian dish of all time and I aim to try this everywhere, if it's offered. How did they do? It was crispy, cheesy, soft, hot, saucey, and satisfying with each and every bite. I throughly enjoyed that and will order it again. Finally, the Apple Crosata was like an apple pie/strudel. It was really good and it was completely eaten. I would like to come back soon and have the eggplant once more. One thought, it can get busy and service can be slower, with two servers. It's definitely 3-4 stars, but it never really stands out to me enough. I've never ordered anything memorable, but my recent visit was a better yield :) I wanted something vegetarian, so I went with the eggplant parmesan, served in a non-greasy way (thankfully)! The outside was much hotter than the inside, but the inside was not lukewarm or anything unappetizing, so it could just be a matter of ingredient density at that point. I enjoyed it overall, but (as boring as this sounds) the sauce was the star of the dish. It was a delicious marinara packed with flavor, and it's poured on the bottom of the dish as if it's a sea for the entree to swim in. My husband's margherita pizza looked OK, nothing special, but he liked it, so I think it tastes better than it looks! We were celebrating, so we had a bit of the smores dessert, with marshmallow flavored ice cream. I was indifferent until I realized that there were chunks of marshmallows in the ice cream itself, not just marshmallow flavors. I enjoyed the textural contrast and was surprised they were able to pull off a gooey marshmallow texture without the marshmallow freezing (or melted marshmallows that would melt the ice cream itself). Marshmallow fluff maybe? It was a clever and unique dessert that I definitely ate only a bite of, if anyone asks 0:) I got a mojito, and there wasn't much to it, just a tasty tart drink with too much ice. It wasn't packed with alcohol, taste-wise, so some might dislike that, but I enjoyed it! The service was a bit of a stumble, and it has been this way here for a while. It took at least 10 minutes to get served water! We tried making eye contact with anyone who could help us, but no one looked at us. It was kind of frustrating at a certain point. Our waitress took our orders about 15 minutes after the water, and the food took some time after that. When she brought the bread, she didn't bring butter or olive oil, and it's strange because usually bread service contains at least one of those. We had to flag her down to get olive oil (and butter, as was requested by someone else). She brought the olive oil but forgot the butter, and someone I was eating with had to tell her I think twice. Later, she didn't know someone brought in a cake, and that's not her fault. Instead, someone else at the restaurant should've coordinated with her. The food here is good - not as basic or predictable as somewhere like Maggiano's (for which there is a time and a place), but not especially inventive. It's a good restaurant, but it will be a time intensive visit, and it's not somewhere to seek from too far away. read more

A group of us staying at the Westin decided to order take-out here for dinner on a Saturday night. We were given recommendations in advance about both the pizza and the chicken parmesan - I did not order either of these, but others in my group did, and they can attest to the recommendations. The order/pickup area is one room at the far end of the restaurant from the hotel, so you have to walk through the entire area to get there. I feel sorry for the folks who have to work here. With the outside entrance to the take-out area right in front of the desk, they are subjected to the colder temperatures and the cold breezes when the door is opened for any reason, blowing around the papers on the counter and any light bags in the pick-up rack. And this is also where you have to stand while waiting to pick up your order. You could tell that the people working here were juggling many tasks at once, but they managed to be as friendly, polite, and professional as possible, for which I commend them. We ordered 2 entrees, for which we were told they would be ready in 30 minutes, and 1 pizza, for which we were told it would be ready in 40 minutes. It didn't work quite that way. When we got there, 1 entree, and the pizza were ready, but the other entree took a while longer to arrive. My entree, the Chicken Limone, is similar to a Chicken Francese with spinach and capers. The chicken was moist and tender. The chicken for the parmesan was also tender, but the edges were singed. None of these dishes come with pasta, you have to order that separately if you want it. From my experience walking through the dining room area twice, it seems to have a nice ambiance, but there are also areas which I would classify as major intersections where customers walking through may need someone directing traffic versus the wait staff rushing to deliver meals. read more

Saranello's was great - it as my first time for dinner but I have dined for lunch before. They ran out of the pork chop and the beef meatballs when we were there which seemed a little strange since we had a fairly early dinner time. We had to ask for an extra serving of bread a couple of times before they brought it to us and they just poured a little oil for the table which wasn't enough. The restaurant seemed moderately busy for a Thursday night but we were sat very closely to another party with multiple open tables. We highly recommend Saranello's if you're looking for a delicious meal in the area or hosting a small event. We booked Saranello's for our wedding rehearsal dinner because it was conveniently attached to our main hotel room block at The Westin Chicago North Shore. It ended up being a great decision because our immediate families and bridal party got to enjoy a delicious Italian meal in a beautiful and intimate setting in the Candle Room on the banquet side of the restaurant. Lara Jones, the Catering, Parties, & Special Events Manager, provided clear communication and pricing so that we could decide on the several course meal for our guests. There were so many options! The key highlights for food were THE BREAD, the braised beef ravioli, and the baked eggplant parmesan lasagna. It's especially notable that our guests loved the food because most of us are Vietnamese or Korean so we rarely venture to try out Italian food. I can say that we were all pleasantly surprised! The wait staff were attentive and ensured that we fully taken care of. As an interesting side story, we happened to be in town for other wedding stuff after we had already booked Saranello's. We went in as regular guests, unannounced, and were served such delicious food that we knew our families would enjoy it months later. We made reservations for Saturday and asked for the table outside. We were seated right away, however, the table was not clean. We asked water guy to clean it. Our waitress was very nice, but we had to wait a long time until she comes out and stops by our table. Food was excellent, loved all of it. I just wished the service would be a little more attentive. To start, we ordered 600 days prosciutto fi Parma with burrata - great choice, delicious! My husband had pork chop and I ordered Roast Chicken Vesuvio. My group and I are went to this restaurant for dinner. The food was amazing and service was exceptional. The tiramisu was good but needed a bit more coffee. The lemon cookies are beyond delicious! We order the shrimp Fra Diablo (not spicy at all), short rib (tender and absolutely delicious), spaghetti and meatballs (delicious) and sausage and peppers (delicious but a bit of sauce would have been appreciated). The experience was wonderful! However when we came the next day for lunch, our waitress was awful! She scolded us TWICE for requesting separate checks and made us wait 1.25 hours for pizza and salad. So disappointing and thoroughly discouraging! We had reservations for dinner again with the team and decided to go elsewhere after the lunch experience I would have given 4-5 stars for dinner, 1 star for lunch. read more

It's always a pleasure having a meal here. The atmosphere of the restaurant is dark and wonderful. I've had no issues with the service or my drinks. The menu is large enough, but the portions alone take the cake and you won't leave hungry. It's also hard to find proper Italian takeout, but honestly I've chosen takeout more times from here than I've eat here in person because they know what they're doing. MICE IN THE RESTAURANT I ate Dinner on Saturday and then breakfast the following morning. This morning, I went to eat breakfast at 700am (they open at 630am) and other than the waitress, I was the only patron. As I gave her my voucher for breakfast, I see a large mouse run across the floor in front of me. While we were discussing this, the mouse ran back out and this time the waitress also saw it. Looking behind the furniture, I see another mouse sitting there. Now, the mouse is running from table to table. I obviously lost my appetite, decided not to eat and when I mentioned that she should get management involved, the waitress said she would but that they rent from the Westin hotel they are attached to. When I complained to the front desk manager he pushed it back on Saranellos. Either way, having 2 active mice DURING THE DAY, I'd say they have an infestation. DISGUSTING!!!! read more

My family and I used to love Saranellos Sunday buffet but after going today I don't think we'll be back. The new layout for the buffet didn't work, it was chaos in line. The tables were too close together and you couldn't walk between them to get to the buffet. The food wasn't being refreshed regularly. The mac and cheese sat empty for over 40 minutes. The service was awful, waiter disappeared for extended periods of time. When it came time to pay the bill, we gave him 2 gift cards which he didn't apply and appeared to pocket them. When I questioned it he brought back a new bill adding one extra person to the bill and showing the cards being used. I felt like I was being cheated. He eventually fixed it. I raised my concerns to the manager and he did nothing about the situation. This was a terrible way to celebrate my mom's birthday. read more

Hospitality: The hospitality was typical of everything that is good about the Lettuce Entertain You Restaurant Group: professionalism, attention to detail, and solid understanding of allergic and dietary restrictions. I made a reservation for 9/6/2024 at Saranello's for a Family-style dinner for eleven people; some of us in our group had Celiac Disease and others were strict vegetarians for religious reasons. When I called Saranello's, Joanne patiently went over all of the dishes for our meal with me and even confirmed with the chef to ensure that all of the food choices met our group's allergy and dietary needs. She and Matt (General Manager) assured me that they went over the details of our meal with the dining and waitstaff prior to our arrival. We truly felt that the staff at Saranello's really cared about the satisfaction and safety of their customers. 2. Ambiance: The interior design of the restaurant was lovely. It had the ambiance of a rustic Italian villa with a modern twist. Our table for eleven was situated in an inviting alcove that gave us a nice view of the main dining room, but still allowed us enough privacy so that we could hear our individual conversations. 3. Service: The service was impeccable. When we arrived, Matt came out to go over the final details of our group's dinner. Our server Bobby was courteous and saw that every detail of our meal was well-paced and well-executed. Hiccups are natural, even with the best laid out plans. We were impressed by how quickly Bobby rectified any and all bumps during our meal. He also offered us complimentary glasses of Prosecco or non-alcoholic Sprite to celebrate our group's special occasion. The complimentary valet service was a plus as well! 4. Food: The food was fabulous. The first course of Gluten Free Bread with Olive Oil and Parmesan on the side and Antipasti Platter was nice. In particular, the house made gluten free bread was tasty, toasty warm, with a crispy crust and soft-chewy core. The second course of House Salad with Red Wine Vinaigrette and Roasted Brussels Sprouts was scrumptious The sides of thick and smoky bacon, mozzarella, and ricotta salata were the perfect accompaniments. The third course of Potato Gnocchi, Orecchiette with Grilled Chicken and Broccoli, Eggplant Parmesan, and Pan Roasted Salmon was amazing. Everyone enjoyed the pillowy and saucy Potato Gnocchi. The Orecchiette Pasta was perfectly al dente, and the grilled chicken was tender and well-seasoned. The Eggplant Parmesan had yummy layers of tender eggplant, marinara, and cheese. The Pan Roasted Salmon was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender inside, and the side of sauteed spinach was delicious. The final (dessert) course of Banana Tiramisu and Chocolate Mascarpone Pie can be summed in one word - divine. Everyone was speechless and could see why they are two of the most popular desserts at Saranello's. Overall, we give Saranello's a 5/5. This place reminds me of the early days of Maggiano's. Consistent quality and flavors that match my Sicilian/Italian palette. A few servers wear masks which limits the connection with your wait service. I will definitely continue going but I have learned what and how to order to keep the bill within reason. I don't like the fact that the entree doesn't come with any sides, not even pasta. They were supposed to charge $7.95 for a side of pasta to a $20 order of mussels instead they charged $10.95. It was good so no complaints. The minestrone was an issue for my wife. She asked if it was tomato based and the waiter said no. It was actually the opposite, more like tomato soup. We had LEYE rewards so the bill for two was under $100. Yet if we didn't a $100+ dinner is getting pricey. Even so we left satisfied. Excellent and exceptional bread served with olive oil and at my request some balsamic. That alone can please me more than anything. I ordered my usual double vodka soda lime and it was perfect. First of all, the food is delicious in both taste and presentation! I believe that the price was a bit high, especially for how scant the entree looked in its large plate, and because the vegetable on the side was actually a teensy bit of green on top of the generous salmon filet. The gnocchi covered the bottom of the large plate, but stopped short of climbing on the sides. The Vesuvio potatoes were delicious and enough for two to share--they were no longer on the menu, but our server successfully convinced the chef to make some for us, anyway. Damon was our server. From the moment he approached our table and introduced himself to us, Damon's care, attention, generosity, service, and overall professionalism went way above and beyond our prior positive experiences at this establishment and at most, if not all, other dining venues since pre-Covid times! This could've gone either way- if I could give 3.5 stars, I would. The good: The hostess, the wine (I got the super Tuscan) the bread, and the dessert. The not so great- the service, the entrees We were greeted warmly and seated promptly, then we were brought fresh bread and olive oil. This is where I started to get excited. They have a great, 3 course, express lunch menu and a nice variety on the main menu. I ordered my wine and thought it was amazing. I had great expectations about the food to come. The Italian house salad was a little "busy" for my taste- and we even left off two ingredients! For our entrees we ordered the chicken parm off the special lunch menu and the sausage w/peppers and onions off the regular. It took over 30 minutes to come out and when it did we were really disappointed. The chicken had a rubbery texture and the sauce lacked flavor. My sausage was way over cooked and tough. They must slice and fry it to order then top with sauce instead of having it slow cook in the sauce. Just disappointing after such a long wait. But- dessert was fantastic. My mother had the chef's dessert and I had the pistachio gelato. Both were excellent! read more

Not sure if this is going to be an accurate review of all of what Saranello's has to offer, but we tried it this morning for brunch. While it's a little on the expensive side, I have to admit that it was pretty good. It's is a brunch buffet which I thought was a little odd, especially during Covid. However, they require customers to wear masks and gloves out of a cool air blowing dispenser. You also get free mimosas which my said was only ok. My dad and I got $5 Bloody Mary's which were excellent. My dad appreciated it wasn't overly spicy. It was a solid drink! As for the the buffet, it had pretty much everything you'd expect to find, but they had some interesting sliders that were chicken and waffles and breakfast burger. I have to say that the breakfast burger was really good. They also had pasta which I tried since it would give me a taste of their regular menu. It was also pretty good. Based on that, I would say this place is like a slightly fancier Maggianos (which LEYE started). That's not a bad thing! They also had an omelette and carving station. It only had one employee so he was doing a bit of double duty. The omelettes were amazing and the carved steak was a huge surprise! Another big surprise was the desserts! I'm glad I left some room for this banana fosters pudding thingy! Excellent. The only downsides were the service was a little spotty. It didn't seem like there was enough staff for this large place. They also seemed a little more lax on the social distancing as some other LEYE. I don't think they were in non compliance, but it was little close from eyeballing it. I have been vaccinated so it wasn't a big deal, but other LEYE restaurants seemed more super obsessed about it. Still, if you're in the area, I would recommend stopping by. The horrible service and totally disinterested bartenders ruin what is a very good meal. The bar is dirty with dirty plates everywhere and staff that makes every guest feel invisible. Servers have to be chased down for water, napkins and anything else you may require. Hard to believe that this is the restaurant of such a nice hotel. read more

Greatly enjoyed coming here for dinner while visiting family, and was surprised to see such a lukewarm 3.5 Star rating. Really? I think Saranello's is much better than that. The five of us each got something different, and four of liked to loved our entrees. The one who didn't like the Chicken Vesuvio (calling it 'hard') just didn't like it. I will say that after I sneaked a bite of that dish, that I actually thought it was tasty and not hard. If you like Caesar salads, I strongly suggest you get one here. Add the anchovies if you're so inclined (I think it's a tasty value at $1 additional). I loved the deep green leaves and the dressing. (But I also really loved the mini croutons, too) The sausage and peppers app worked fine as an entree for us. Possibly too many peppers, I heard, as the only drawback. The Zuppa di Pesce got high marks, and looked fantastic. It's huge, too, so be hungry if you want it. The Chicken Limone was very well received. It looked really good, and of course, it's very easy to share around here. I tried something new for me. Short Ribs of Beef are very tender and full of flavor. Just enough fat, too. Sits on creamy bed of mashed potatoes. I'm a big fan of asking the server which dishes they like (or asking from a shortlist for guidance). I didn't taste the heavy-handed salt that I read about. That's nonsense: Very good food here in a fun and grownup atmosphere. Finally, the Chocolate Mascarpone Pie is luscious and a lovely ending to a really good meal. I stay often at the Westin where this restaurant is located, unfortunately when there is no other choice I eat at their bar or order to go food. This is by far the worse service you can possible get, there are two bartenders, a lady and an older gentleman and they look absolutely miserable. There is a much better choice right across the hotel, if you don't have to, don't come here! read more

FREQUENT PATRONS! Food is excellent and always ready on time. Review would be 5 Stars except for occasional missing items or on one occasion, the wrong entrée entirely. During the past year, we seem to only experience this with LEYE restaurants. We have always been reimbursed for the item (either a credit card refund or points), but we would rather have had the dish we ordered. If you want their wonderful bread, it is now a separate order. Some of our favorites are Garlic Knots with Marinara, Chicken Limone, any of the salads, Baked Chicken Parmesan, Braised Beef Shortrib, Apple Crostada and Chocolate Mascarpone Pie. Once we are ready to return to in-restaurant dining, we will be happy to return to Saranello's! read more
