This place was so good! There are so many choices you can get and make it whatever way you want. On Saturdays they give you free soup with a meal. They have every choice of drink you can think of which is awesome. There is not a ton of sitting places but its enough when it isn't busy. It does look like a deck in there because it is all lawn furniture which is a little sad that they cant buy just normal chairs. They use Boars head meat (stuff from Fred Meyer), it is good quality. Do not listen to Shannon's review that says they are oscar mayer cold cuts with wonder bread because neither of those facts are true. This was my first visit here, I called my order in for pick up and went to get it. The sandwich was ready when I got there and the soup was prepared once I had arrived. I ordered an Italian combo and a small side of chili. My total without a tip was $13. So it's about average for Anchorage I'd say. The staff was nice, kind of talkative which is good or bad depending on your personality lol. They noticed they had incorrectly charged me and fixed it before I even had a chance to realize and that was very nice in my book. The portions are huge! A small chili is a large at most other places I couldn't even finish it. The sandwich is the same I could only finish half of it. As far as the chili though I was kind of disappointed, it really didn't taste like chili to me. The italian combo was alright, I didn't notice a crazy amount of toppings on it. The bread was really good, it was fresh it seemed. Other than that I mean I wasn't super impressed with it. I probably won't come back here just because it's a far drive from where I live and I wasn't blown away with the food. My friend and I dropped by here on the way to the airport at his recommendation. I ordered a chicken bacon ranch sandwich. It was good but not spectacular - the chicken seemed to be the kind that either comes in a package or a can; it didn't seem like it was cooked on site. Iceberg lettuce and pre-cut cheese slices were also included. The bacon was tasty, but then again...it's bacon! Counter help was friendly, ambiance was ok. Friendly and super-fast, this is _the_ place for a killer sandwich in Anchorage. They've been here since the late 80's. Everything is fresh, made to order, and available to-go or eat in their dining room. They also deliver but to businesses only unfortunately. Lunch can be busy but they're still as fast as ever. Sara's makes good, affordable sandwiches quickly. I wouldn't call their selections gourmet by any stretch, but they are a solid alternative to the usual fast food lunch drudgery. One thing I've noticed that I wish they would change: They do a "signature" cut with their subs where they don't slice all the way through the end of the bread. I think this is an economic decision as much as anything, because they don't have to put veggies and meat all the way to the end of the sandwich. When you eat it, you start on a luscious and meaty end of the sandwich and with each bite you get diminishing returns until there's just two inches of dry bread that will probably go to waste. I have been stopping here once or twice a month to grab a sandwich or salad. I love having an easy place to stop for a bite to eat during a busy work week. The customer service is always outstanding. The salads are big and tasty. I often get the Chef salad without ham and add avocado. It fills me up for hours. Great place for take out or eat in. Had a chance to stop in here twice while going through some advanced training...I had the Ham and Provolone on a French Roll Chips Salad large drink..ran me about 12.00 bucks..no so bad second time I went for the Roast beef...same prices..they give you a good large sandwich the salad was a little small, all the refills you want....good lunch spot! read more

We went again today and we were pleasantly surprised by the Soup Saturday. You get a free cup of soup or chili with the purchase of any sandwich. My husband got the clam chowder, which was pretty good, and I got the chili which was kind of cold and LOADED with cheese, a little too much for my liking. But it was free! I've been here a few times and really like this place...I'm surprised that i haven't written my review :/ we've had the roast beef, the Italian, French dip and the Italian sausage. They were all super good with soft fresh bread!! Their sub bread is pretty thick, but it's soft so it's deliciously! You also get a fee soup with your sandwich, which is AWESOME!! We've had the chili, clam chowder and broccoli cheddar.. All again are perfect! But it's pretty filing. It's a great deal for your money!! They're a little wasteful using disposable everything even if we are eating in, but that's a personal issue for me. We will definitely be back! We ordered five sandwiches and we ended up with five disappointed diners. Disappointing and certainly not a four star restaurant.

Our office ordered today. 6 sandwiches, 1 large chilli, a brownie, 1 bag of chips and 2 sides of mac salad. When our order was delivered, we received the 6 sandwiches and 2 sides of mac salad. The chilli, brownie and chips were missing. The driver was apologetic and was going to come right back with the missing items. As we all dived into our sandwiches we all discovered they were ALL wrong. 5 of the 6 sandwiches were a #23, which includes avocados, the 6th sandwich is a #22 (no avocado). None of our #23's had avocado on them at all and the #22 was actually a #23. We called to inform them of the mistake at 1145, were told they would remake all 5 #23's as the person that ordered the #22 said don't bother with hers. When we finally received our new sandwiches at 1 pm (at this point 2 hours after our original order) the man delivering the food in no uncertain terms told us that he would be taking the wrong order back to dissect the sandwiches to in fact make sure they were made incorrectly because they get 4-5 calls per week from customers saying that their order was wrong and that the employees at Sara's will then watch the video to prove that the order was correct. So he basically called us liars and said that they would be watching the video and dissecting our order to in fact see that it was wrong. Now my office orders from Sara's quite a bit every month, however this experience with them has soured us. I personally have been eating at Sara's for quite some time and NEVER had an issue with my food being wrong, and please understand my food being wrong today wasn't my biggest issue, we are all human and make mistakes, it was the way we were treated in the matter. The food was ok, but the customer service was beyond horrible, we called in an order for 3 sandwiches, they delivered 1, when we called back to complain/let them know they said ok we will bring it out, then they brought us 1 sandwich , when we called back this time saying we were coming down to get our money back for the sandwich they didn't deliver or we wanted that sandwich for free, they refused to give the sandwich for free so we just got our money back, then 2 hours later there manager shows up at our place of business causing a scene claiming that we stole the sandwich, that we never got, and refused to leave until they spoke with a manager. Ordering here was somewhat confusing, but after we figured it out and got our sandwiches the experience wasn't much better. The sub was huge but made mostly of lettuce. My husband enjoyed his French dip, wish I could say the same about my chicken bacon ranch. I've been wanting to try this place for a while. All of my friends rave about this place for lunches, unfortunately (though this was my first visit) it did not live up to the hype. I've been going to Sara's for 10+ years. Their sandwiches are always delicious and the bread, meat, cheese and veggies are always super fresh. The sub roll sandwiches are big enough that I can usually only eat half (my husband can put back the whole thing but is always full). The sandwiches and combos are fairly priced, usually around $17 for two sandwiches alone. Great drink selection if you're into that and treat yourself to the peanut butter brownie...so good. Service is quick and its a great place to grab dinner on the way home on nights I don't want to cook. I recommend it to everyone! read more

This is the 3rd time I've ordered from my business. The other times were ok. Today was unacceptable. I ordered the French dip sub with pickle spear & side salad, what I got was a container full of brown wilted ice berg lettuce. Along with a cold, un-toasted French dip. The meat was unseasoned & awful, & the cheese wasn't even melted. I did not receive a pickle spear, but instead got unwanted sliced dill pickles in the sub. It took an hour and a half for delivery.
