The food here is about a 3 to 4 but the service is a 1 star, that's being generous. Food: I've been twice and ordered Rava masala dosa both times. Their chutneys need more flavor. All of them tasted nearly the same. But the dosa was flavorful and the right crispiness. The potato masala needs more flavor, some cilantro would be great. So foods a solid 3. Service: Both times I had the same waitress. There's a pitcher of room temperature water on the table. When I ordered I asked for ice both times. She nodded like she understood and both times forgot. We ran out of the water in the pitcher but she never returned after taking the food order. I counted 5 waiters standing around talking while I tried to get their attention for refills on the water and more napkins. No one even glanced in our direction, ever. Eventually our son got up and asked for more water and napkins. I gave up on the ice. I can't imagine returning anytime soon. Check what you get when ordering take out. They miss out accompanying sambar, chutneys and the quality of food is also not up to the mark. Also, for some reason they've reduced the quantities recently. Check your order before leaving the place. Once you leave the place, it's hard to get them to fulfill the order. Excellent food! This is a great place for vegetarian food. I came here with my family for dinner and we all enjoyed the masala dosa. A masala dosa is a large, airy, and thin rice wrap, almost like a crepe, with potato filling inside (I apologize for that terrible description LOL). The size of these are an iconic part of this meal, so you can imagine how filling it is. Trust me, you'll enjoy it! The masala dosa also comes with 4 flavors of dipping sauces, all tasted delicious. Following our meal we enjoyed a cup of milk tea (chai) and it was very rich in cardamom, yumm! The service was incredibly fast and friendly. This restaurant is nicely decorated and has plenty of seatings for any size group. Bathrooms were also very clean. I've been to the same restaurant in a different location, however, this one was definitely better in how clean it was and staff friendliness. My family and I cannot wait to come back here! read more

The food at SB is usually wonderful and soulful but todays experience was disappointing. Food was bland and not up to the mark!!

Grossed out when I saw the guy handling and serving the food dig his nose in public and then went inside the kitchen.... Sept 3rd 2016 (Labor day weekend) I don't think I am ever going back to this place...too many issues with practically ZERO service and waits to get the entire order...and this nose picking thing was the straw that broke the camels back. How can you unsee what you see? You cannot. I only hope that this person went inside and washed his hands before he touched any food. I don't know if its good or bad but we had most of our food on the table by this time and just when we were thinking of ordering a couple of desserts...I saw the guy picking his nose. I am going to report them to food safety and public health authorities. Tardiness is almost unbearable but hygenie is something that cannot be ignored. I am going to write about them in blogs, in social media and other foodie channels. These guys need to be shutdown. Just a few months back we were having lunch and one of the waiters spilled sambar on my collegues jacket... They were not even couteous enough to own up to their mistake. We had to call them out and thats when the manager said he would get it dry cleaned and have it ready for us to pick it up in a couple of days. I let that one slide...but since then, I have noticed that they have become more and more arrogant and what I saw was quite frankly shocking. I think we need to hold them up to a higher standard and if they can't then they need to fold and get out of Plano. I am planning to contact the manager and see what they do about this review. Coming here was a mistake.. We were meeting some friends for an early dinner. Our friends said they were close, so we decided to go inside the restaurant and wait for them in the waiting area. The manager sees there's 4 of us, comes with menus, and tells us to sit at this table. We told him we were waiting on our friends and asked if we could wait there.. He insisted we sat at the table. We asked if we could wait for them since they were close. Pissed and aggravated, the manager grabbed the menus, threw them in the table and walked away. We have eaten at Saravanaa Bhavan in Delhi and New York and we always love it. We were visiting our friends in frisco and were determined to eat at Saravanaa Bhavan. We ordered rasam- it was too salty Ordered tomato onion uttapam- tasteless Onion rava Masala dosa- too thick and dry and uncooked at places We complained for the dosa and the staff was too rude. I came here with a friend since he's a big fan of this restaurant chain. I personally wasn't impressed with either the food, and service. Don't get me wrong, the food is good....but, you're paying for the surroundings of the restaurant. For the quality of the food, this place is over charging...I've had better for cheaper pricing. As for their service, this is another thing...these people have no urgency or any type of experience to deal with their clientele. At times, my friends, and I waited for long time just to get a simple glass of water. Hell, if it wasn't for one of us that decided to just go over to them directly...we wouldn't have gotten our water. Overall, I wasn't impressed with this restaurant at all. Went at 6pm on saturday. The only good part was we were seated appropriately and then started the struggle. Had to wait for 15 minutes and then asked the staff to take the order as everyone was busy running around and no one bothered to ask us. Gave the order and waited for another 15 minutes. By now its been 30 minutes we entered this place. Finally order arrived. We dint want the idli to be dipped in ghee, but it came with ghee dipped. Onion rava dosa had the entire onions burned. On top of all this one of the chutneys, tomato i believe was stale. I was so disappointed that for the first time i had to come out without leaving a tip on table !!!!! I am really surprised about the low ratings some have given but do understand their service skills are not perfect in timing delivery of the plates. Half of my family is South Indian and they see it as normal. They don't have rules like we do where you wait for everyone to be served to eat. The food is fantastic though. We have loved everything that we have ordered and for my non vegetarian friends it is such a fun experience for them to see the giant Dosas and Poori and enjoy tasting all the dishes served in the combos and Thali. Our family favorites though are Masala Dosa, Channa Batura and the Thali and the OMG yummy coffee! My friend also never leaves without grabbing a paan at the end of his meal. This location has a much nicer ambiance than the Irving location and also has a fun window where you can watch them work in the kitchen. If you are looking for a very casual place Irving would be the better location to go to but I assure you the food is exactly the same. read more

We go here often. My parents go all the time. We went today around brunch time. I don't know what's happened but the food and service was mediocre at best. Even the coffee was horrible. Maybe they should hire me to teach them how to make South Indian coffee. The dosa was soft and soggy. They couldn't be bothered to even put the sugar and condiments on the tables. My friends and I were sitting around chatting longer than expected after our checks were taken care off and one of the staff came around and asked us to leave (loudly). This is usually a favorite dinner spot for me and my mom. My usual critique is that the prices are slightly high for the portion sizes ($6 for 3 pc bonda) However, our recent experience was dreadful. We waited nearly 45-50 minutes for any food, and were completely not tended to. The paratha was crisp and tasty and the kurma had a great flavor, but all in all, it's nowhere near worth the wait. I would recommend just sticking to dosa, because people who ordered half an hour after us were being served. read more

Poor service. We came here after a 14 hour drive and reached right around dinner time. All of us were thirsty. While waiting in line to get seated we already decided on our orders and when we were seated no one took our order or brought us any water for almost 20 minutes.
