I've been going to this restaurant for several years now despite its poor service, as I do enjoy the food. We were a party of four yesterday, around ten in the morning. Two of us always order chai, which usually doesn't come until after your food FINALLY arrives, even though you ask them to bring it before the meal. We like to drink our chai while we wait for our meal, & today wasn't any exception, same old story. Yet another server that brought us the chai was less than friendly, to say the least. We all finished our meals at various times because they were brought to us at various times. Then to top everything off, a different server, or maybe a manager, tells us that they need our table because it's getting busy. That was a first for me, & I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I really don't feel like giving patronage to a business that treats their customers so poorly, & I will hold myself to that if anyone ever suggests going there. We weren't the only ones complaining that our order was taking too long today, just as many other times. Management REALLY needs to look at the way they conduct their business, & patrons like myself who continue having bad experiences at this restaurant & others like it, need to let them know. Maybe if their profits went down, perhaps they'd get a clue. read more

We usually go to Viceroy, which is in the same shopping center area, but they were closed at the time we wanted to go. :( So we decided to go here instead. The issue we've had with Indian restaurants in the past is terrible service. Viceroy never disappoints! However..... we weren't impressed with the service here. It definitely wasn't the worst we've gotten but it was incredibly slow. I stood at the door for a long time before I was greeted. After we sat down it took almost 10 minutes for anyone to check on us. After we placed the appetizer order we started to think we had been completely forgotten. Then when we finally got our appetizer they didn't bring us any plates. Uuhhhhh! Face palm! The best service we got while we were there was from the girl who brought the togo boxes when we were done. I wish she had been there the whole time. The food was not bad. Pretty much all 3 stars are for the food. I like that they're vegetarian so thumbs up for that but if Viceroy is open I'll probably still go there next time. read more

Very bad customer service. Manager is super rude. He thinks that they do not need us "customers". I went there today with my wife and 2 kids (3 years old and 8 months). We had a baby stroller, and we requested him to allow stroller because of the 8 months old baby, his response was " we are very strict with our policy, it's your call weather you want to eat here or not". I believe they are in customer service business and this is not a way to handle. I had 2 other customers who told me that the way he said was very rude and we should stop giving them our hard earn money. There are plenty of other restaurants in Dallas. Sarvanaa Bhavan's management should take action against this. We ended up going to Sankalp, and they are way better then Sarvanaa Bhavan of Plano. read more

Came on Monday for family lunch. Very bad service took 12 mins to sit after that no one came to take order till 20 mins . Left the restaurant with out eating any thing as they told they are in less staff and can't take the orders for next 25 mins. This place never disappoints. It is clean. Service is attentive (but not too attentive). Time-to-table is quick. Food is delicious, everytime. The Chaana Bathura is so good. The Bathura is piping hot and the Chaana is consistently great. The Saag Paneer has so much flavor. The Thalis never disappoint. The Dosas crispy and huge. For some reason Indian restaurants always have a common sink outside the bathrooms and while they're meant for washing your hands, people go and rinse their mouths which is not appealing. read more

But they had the gall to say they don't serve such as us. I was startled at their gall to say that to me. I asked them would my $$ spend any differently. I tried briefly to reason with them and in exasperation asked them to GFY and hung up. I say you can take the scum out of their agrahara but the agrahara superstition, bigotry, & arrogance can't be taken out. This is not what I expected in the 21st C CE. Great vegetarian food. We ordered thali and it was awesome. Foods were simple yet tasty with no unnecessary spiciness or excessive oil/grease. Ambience was good. Definitely one of the best vegetarian restaurant around, will be returning to try some a la carte items. read more

I came here at lunch with 15min till close. Limited menu. Basically they only had dosas. I scanned the menu and picked the veg dosa. All I can compare it to is the street dosas in SF. It was AMAZING. Came out in like 3 min, piping hot, delicious chutneys and hot lintels. Recommend. read more

It's pathetic and continues to worsen by the day. Earlier it used to be with one service manager and his attitude towards customers - finally he was let go. There is hardly any consistency with food these days - every time there is some thing or other on the menu that is not available. On Wednesday evening (5-10) except dosas, idly and meals, nothing is available - c'mon guys - not even vegetable biriyani - that's about 5pages of the 7 page menu!!! I was asked to order a dosa - if you think you are the only shop in town and dictate what the customer has to eat, you will be proved wrong like many other places in past. Went here for dinner on Christmas Eve. If you're expecting great service don't come here. We ordered Gobi 65 which is fried cauliflower. I thought it was ok. Didn't taste like a true 65 dish. Of course they bring out the appetizer but no plates. We finally asked someone for plates and they gave us 2 for a party of 6. Math doesn't seem to be their strong suit. My father-in-law was the only one not ordering a dosa. He ordered Combo number 2. He liked it. It had a mini masala dosa, kichdi and other items I forgot. Husband got the Mysore Masala Dosa. It was nice and spicy. Mother-in-law got the Rava onion dosa. Onions were a little burnt. My boys got the cheese dosas. The dosa was a little soggy. My eldest complained about it but they could care less. You're wondering about my food? Oh yes... my paper masala dosa didn't come out until half way through the meal. I kept on asking my waitress about it and she insisted it was coming. Meanwhile son got another dosa and it came out before mine. No sense of service here. My masala dosa had the potatoes on the side instead of it stuffed inside the dosa. Since when does masala dosas not have the potatoes stuffed in the dosa? Also got the Madras coffee. That was good. Food here is a little bit better than mediocre. Food came out relatively fast after ordering. Service is what they're most lacking. We were 5 ladies and out our table was cramped. We stacked all the dirty plates to one side to make room for more dishes. No one picked them up, though m many people came to drop off food or ask how everything was. We eventually asked for the dirty plates to be bussed, but seriously... Also one person from our party ordered the potatoes on the side instead of in the dosa and it didn't come out that way. This is part of the WW chains of Saravana Bhavan. If you like Indian veggie delicacies, then you will love this place. Items are very authentic and prepared fresh. The location at Plano, TX is brand new and is located at the intersection of TX121 and Preston with ample parking. South Indian dishes are the best here along with the famous Madras filter coffee. Items are certainly pricey! The medu vada that we had ordered were little cold. But the waitress graciously replaced them with new warm vada; staff is certainly friendly. I love their dosas. The eating out a tray this is something I'm not used to. I would have preferred eating out of a plate but it's ok. We came about 45 til closing and I felt as if they were hinting for us to hurry up and leave. They actually took my tray before I was finished eating and that annoyed me. I got it back because I intercepted but but thought it was odd they would do that without asking if I was finished or not. Ample parking and the food is good. Ordered Thali & Chole Bhatura - Unfortunately both were bad! Thali - both Quantity & Quality are very poor. Needless to say the food is tasteless. Chole Batura - Overly cooked Batura, It's more like an enlarged Poori.. There should be definitely a difference between Poori & Bhatura and Chole doesn't have any flavor. Water - Saw food particles in the water served. It was replaced but still felt it's very unhygenic. (Very unfortunate had to write about Water as well). Service - Zero Stars! read more

First review I've ever written on yelp after being a user for over a decade. Ordered two rava masala dosas and both of them were incredibly salty as was the tomato chutney. After telling our waitress and asking if we could get a replacement we were told "the chefs said it is fine". Rather than being accommodating or even acknowledging that their food could have problems, we were instead given the bill for the full amount as the manager was not in the store and no one else had the power to make a decision regarding the balance. Having been here many times over the years, this indifference to the food quality and service was a big turn off. read more

Best place to have South Indian food. They serve awesome idli and vada and dosas. We ordered Rava dosa, ghee roast masala dosa( if you want it crispy then tell before hand else you will be disappointed) . We got soft dosa and were a little disappointed. Medhu vada and idlis are just awesome. We ordered coffee and told the waitress to make it extra hot. In spite of that, she got us warm coffee. We always like our coffee to be hot. Very very Bad service and bad attitude shown by the restaurant people. They did not allow allow a baby with stroller in the restaurant. They told that they do not allow strollers inside the restaurant and we cannot take the baby with the stroller. We told the baby is less than 1 month old and may start crying if we move her, still they were adament on "no stroller " . When I asked is it mentioned anywhere, the answer was it's not written anywhere now but we will write it now. Really unacceptable behavior.. Every time. It's the buffet on a plate and you always get something new, including a sweet! I have no idea what I'm eating--I just know it's over flowing with flavors. Flavor that will have you sweating. It's spicy, people. It's Indian. You cannot come in here if you are looking for mild and bland food. Don't be shocked when your nose starts running. Just embrace it. Few notes...their raita is amazing. I could eat a giant bowl of that all day long. Most places water it down and put like one piece of cilantro in it and call it raita. Not SB. Saravan Bhavan is a vegetarian restaurant chain that specializes in South Indian cuisine. No chicken tikka masala and mutton biryani, but instead more Dosa and Idly. If you know that going in and adjust your expectations accordingly, you wont be disappointed. The Plano location has a different feel that the one in Irving. While the Irving location reminded me of Saravana Bhavan restaurants in Chennai, the one in Plano looks brighter, more contemporary and somehow more welcoming. Most of us stuck to safe choices - Kaima Idly, Kottu Parota (Mixed Veg Parota) and Chola Batura. The Batura was a bit too oily and I could have used more channa curry, but all three hit the mark taste-wise. Yum ! One of us was a bit more adventurous and ordered Paneer Biryani. Also Yum. Service was very attentive. There was some confusion but it was followed by apologies and a quick rectification. I'd give the place high marks for service too. Prices were reasonable. read more
