I had a ton of work meetings today so I needed something relatively quick and nearby for lunch. I happened to drive by Sarku Japan and decided to give it a go. I ordered the chicken teriyaki lunch box, which was about $13. It consisted of a heaping portion of chicken teriyaki over a bed of rice, side salad, three dumplings and four california rolls. The chicken didn't taste the highest quality but it I shouldn't have been surprised as it's basically the super fast-casual kind of restaurant you'd find in a mall. I didn't add any sauce but I'm pretty sure a few packets of hot and duck sauce would make turn things up a notch. Obviously, this is a chain restaurant so there's many of them all around the country So, indeed, you really aren't missing anything. I think that there needs to be a little bit more attention to the quality of the food here because it didn't really taste that fresh. I mean... let's be honest - you don't come to Sarku expecting top notch food by any means, but I think the standard should at least be mall-level good. This Sarku seems to just miss the mark on that. I mean, is it decent and edible? Yes. Could it be better? Oh, for sure. My boyfriend and I came here to grab a quick lunch & both decided on the chicken teriyaki. I ordered mine with noodles & his came with white rice. Portion sizes here are deceivingly big in photos, but really just enough to fill you up. I'm not a big eater by any means, and still managed to finish almost everything in the order. I'd note that the good parts of the order include the fact that they use actual lo mein instead of the flat thin noodles, and that there's a bit of a char on the chicken. I appreciate that they give a small extra container of teriyaki sauce on the side, because the noodles and chicken definitely needed it - it was a bit on the dry/blander side without it. But for $10 an order, it's overall pretty disappointing that the order doesn't really deliver. I was expecting some piping hot & charred chicken off their grill, and ended up with just-warmed through greasy chicken and noodles. So I don't like to do reviews but this is a must ordered a bento box without going into much detail and someone reaching out to me it was a chicken teriyaki and it was AWFUL so the teriyaki sauce is on the side the chicken is HARD comes with 3 dumplings looks like if you threw it at someone it can fracture their head in other words hard as a rock. Almost like they got it from the packages from Costco, but those are better. Salad that comes in bento box was whatever it was...where was the dressing on it? I wanna start off by saying the staff is very rude. When I walked in they all looked upset because it was 7:40pm and they close at 8pm. I told the cashier that I have a fish allergy and he said he can't give me any rolls. I told him I've gotten avocado and cucumber rolls from here before. He said no he won't do it. It's too much work for them to prepare a roll before closing. So instead he gave me an extra dumpling which didn't even taste good. The food wasn't fresh, it had a bad taste to it. Even the ginger was a different color and wasnt fresh. It's sad how that was my dinner that night and I didn't even want to eat it with every bite being depressing. If I could give a zero I would I just ordered the 3 piece shrimp tempura appetizers and spring rolls. The tempura was rock hard and tasted like old cooking oil. Didn't even want to try the spring rolls. Clearly these tempura pieces had been made a while ago. Probably yesterday or even day before. The batter wasn't even tempura batter but something thicker adding to how hard it got. It arrived - no dipping sauce, no napkins or utensils. The bag wasn't even sealed. Terrible. Simply terrible. Cute little lunch box place. Quick service. You order then they give you a buzzer for when your meal is ready. Food is fresh and cooked when you order. It reminds me of how a Japanese fast food place would be. My drink had a futuristic cap that drops a marble in your drink to activate it. Best part of my visit. Very convenient location as it is right on sunrise. Came here after the gym and the quality is much better than the Sarku Japan's in the malls. However it is slower than the ones in the malls but that's one of the drawbacks. I would much rather have higher quality food than to get my food faster. Portions are good and it is usually priced around 7-10 dollars if you get double meat or not. The restaurant was clean and the staff was nice. This place is losing business fast, quality/ flavor of the food has diminish and the portion size is definitely smaller. The wait is much longer than the mall, and the chefs behind the counter is unnecessarily yelling at the top of their lungs when talking. Horrible experience. Cashier was joking around with her friends while taking my order and kept cutting me off, then waited 20 minutes while other people who ordered after me were getting their food. I had the shrimp bento, hubby had chicken bento and my son had the kids chicken teriyaki in a bowl. Not bad for the price. My bento came with a California roll, fried dumplings and a salad. The dumplings were a little over done. The food was pretty good. Cooked to order which I liked. Could have been a little cleaner. Manager on duty tonight on 2/9/18 was very unprofessional. As I was trying to eat dinner with my family. He decides to belittle one of the cashiers in front of the other employees and customers.
