We got the Kenko rolls, both were great! The peanut sauce it came with went great with the chili sauce on the table. The rock shrimp were like popcorn chicken in the best way, light, crispy breading, not oily at all. The filet pho was lovely, it's huge, tons of noodles, very light broth, ofc comes with the bean sprouts, Thai basil, lime - would recommend a pho and the fish bahn mi was also really good, the fish was really crispy but the star was the pickled carrot and radish side- so light and refreshing, went so well with everything! read more

Decided to give this place another chance. I got their traditional bahn mi again. AGAIN, THERE WAS NO VISIBLE SIGN OF PATE INSIDE THE BAHN MI. Major disappointment. Traditional bahn mi has pate. Their menu even lists it. They couldn't have run out. I've been there a number of times and they never once put pate in there. Last time I've asked for extra pate and the guy asked what pate was. Such a rip off. Then I thought, let me try their pho. Their broth was fine as a Chinese noodle soup, mediocre at best, but it was definitely not pho. The noodle they've used was also not what authentic Viet restaurants use for their pho. Too many failures. Too many tries. Never going back. read more

After reading a few of the highly rated reviews, my sister and I decided to give this place a try since we were in the neighborhood and we were so glad we did. Millie was our server and she was wonderful and so sweet. She answered any questions we had about the menu and made some good recommendations. We had Vietnamese shrimp summer rolls and shrimp shumai for appetizers. Millie so kindly gave us the vegetable dumplings as well and everything was delicious - we were not disappointed. The service was fantastic and we can't wait to go back again. This place does a lot of takeout orders. While we were there, we heard the orders coming in every couple of minutes, and so many people came in to pick up the prepared orders. It was nonstop. Going back and forth between 2 and 3 stars. I honestly have no idea how Kenko is rated so well on Yelp because it definitely missed the mark! I was so excited when I saw the reviews and the prices are very fair. I ordered the fried Vietnamese spring rolls appetizer, a grilled pork banh mi, and 4 speciality rolls on their website. We got a free takoyaki appetizer because we spent over $50. I didn't catch the $1.50 convenience fee until after I submitted payment so jokes on me. When we went into the restaurant I was astonished as to how small the place is. It's basically a takeout spot with a few tables and chairs. They have a cute little shelf with assorted Asian flavored snacks for purchase. Food was prepared and ready in the estimated time. - Fried Vietnamese spring rolls - These were far the worst and most disappointing ones I've had. Comes with two. They tasted just like regular egg rolls you get from Chinese takeout restaurants... only served with fish sauce. - Takoyaki - Good. Not sure this can be messed up though. - Four Specialty Rolls - Specifically the crazy Kenko roll, pink lady roll, Atlantic roll, and I don't even remember. Point is, it was not great. Edible, seems fresh though. We actually had leftovers and threw them out... that says a lot and I hate wasting food and my husband usually act as a human garbage can. - Grilled pork banh mi - This is actually pretty good. Not good enough for me to drive 15-20 minutes from my home to get it though. I'm convinced I ordered the wrong things. Maybe I should've stayed away from the sushi and got pho. We ordered delivery and this place did not disappoint. We're new to the area, moved here almost a year and a half and it is so hard to find good Asian food that isn't your usual takeout Chinese. Guys, Jay & I took the liberty of trying out your new local Banh Mi spot & have to say we were pleasantly surprised by their special Traditional Banh Mi. So whether you're into the traditional or the BBQ Banh Mi, you're covered cause the Traditional is a combo of both. Some places, even the famous Saigon Banh Mi on Grand Street serve the BBQ version on the dried out or overdone side, but not Kenko! Then there's their take on the Vietnamese Iced Coffee. Typically very condensed milk sweet & creamy, but not at Kenko! Theirs took me back to 1983, I was 7 years old & my older siblings brought back a pack of Kopiko which was a Japanese brand coffee candy & I managed to snag one before they even realized....ahhhh refreshing to say the least.... I'm very particular about my Banh Mi and am hesitant about trying new places. While the banh mi was decent and well made, it wasn't the kind that would make me go out of my way to get it. The restaurant is quaint and clean, and has a decent menu. I ordered the Grilled Chicken Banh Mi and the Classic Banh Mi with an Earl Grey bubble tea. The Grilled Chicken Banh Mi was pretty good. The meat was well done, and the bread was fresh. It was toasted and had the usual pickled carrots and cucumbers. However, I do wish the meat was marinated a bit more. There was also no option to add an egg to your sandwich. For me, it was a 7/10. The Classic was a bit too much for me. The roasted ground pork was very well done and well seasoned but I found the ham to be overpowering. To me, it was a bit too much meat. It was a 7/10 as well. The bubble tea was average and didn't really make an impression on me. It was pretty standard and around a 6/10. Overall, this is a good spot to grab banh mi if you're in Long Island and craving it. I've been to Kenko before and I don't know why I've never given in the review it deserves. Honestly I think it's gotten better than when I've had it previously. In one of my previous visits. I had gotten the yellowtail apple roll such a strange combo but surprisingly I really enjoyed it. This time we ordered a Banh Mi Sandwich,Short Rib Pho, Sliced Beef Pho and then when we ordered online we got a free rock shrimp. I have always thought their bahn mi is better than other Vietnamese places in the area and it still holds true. The bahn mi needs the right kind of bread and they got it. Perfectly toasty but not too crispy that you can't bite into it and it breaks apart. The flavors are just right and the pickled veg also gives it a nice crunch. The bowl of pho is bountiful of noodles and meat. The spices of the broth really come through. It warms the body and the soul. And they give you plenty of bean sprouts and hoisin. The rock shrimp, honestly could've done without, but it was a nice gesture(don't recommend ordering it though). They're always very friendly in there. I love Kenko. I've never actually been there but I order from them all the time through grubhub. Everything I've ever had there has been delicous. The summer rolls are nice and fresh, you can tell they use fresh ingredients. I used to get the duck rolls by my dog also enjoyed eating a piece of duck as a treat while I ate the rest lol. The beef short rib pho is my favorite. The beef is tender and the bowl is put together in such a nice presentation. I appreciate that all the additions are in separate containers. Ordered 2 traditional banh mi and a beef pho for pickup, after attending the Merrick Fair a couple months ago. We arrived 10 minutes earlier than told, so they sped up our order, making it ready just 10 minutes after we called, which is unheard of nowadays! I received my order even earlier than estimated on the app. I ordered a grilled pork Banh Mi which comes on a French baguette with carrots, cilantro, pickled radish, and Mayo. The different flavors of the ingredients blended perfectly. The pork was delicious and flavorful. My meal even came with two pieces of candy as well as what I can describe as pieces of cracker with sugar on it! Definitely a pleasant surprise. So we ordered two sushi rolls, Smoked Duck Breast Vietnamese Summer Rolls, Golden Pineapple Tea with boba, Mango Solo Tea with mango popping boba and boba, Beef Banh Mi, Beef Short Ribs Pho, Shrimp Pho, Tofu Pho, and Vietnamese Iced Coffee. Beef short ribs are the best and definitely worth paying extra for. Though the rice box (not in the pictures) is definitely a nice healthy protein heavy lunch you can feel no guilt over and I recommend with chicken. Vietnamese coffee with a bahn no is nice lunch to go or summer rolls though they are the best with sauce. They have a large menu so far the new buns and salads have been great. The pho travels well and has a great mix of meat to veggie ratio. A good option of iced drinks as well and not too pricey for boba. I cannot get enough of Kenko. I used to live nearby but unfortunately Kenko didn't exist at that time. I came back to visit family, was driving by and noticed a sign for bubble tea. We walked in for some bubble tea and left with so much more. Fast forward two or so years after I first discovered Kenko for myself, it is now a main staple of all my visits back. All teas are made to order, and the boba is freshly made in house. I have tried every variety of milk tea that they serve, and they are all fantastic. I am a huge fan of the banh mi's here. Fresh tasting ingredients, and the bread is top tier - soft inside and a little crisp on the outside, holds the entire sandwich together like a coddled baby. In addition to the traditional style, they have several other options, including grilled or shredded chicken, crispy pork or fish, shitake mushroom, tofu, beef short ribs, etc. You have to try the crystal sushi roll - it's one of their specialty items, and it's delicious. You should also make it a point to try the summer and spring rolls, you won't be disappointed. I'll be looking to try the pho and buns next time I visit. My fiancée and I ordered dinner for takeout. They were very accommodating with our order. I had a traditional bahn mi extra spicy. It was delicious. Fresh Italian hero with a crispy outside and a soft, absorbent inside. It had the typical incrediebt of sliced ham, pulled pork, cucumber wedges, shredded carrots, and shredded daikon. Great bahn mis like this are simple and let the fresh, crunchy vegetables stand out. We also had some shrimp summer rolls and smoked duck breast summer rolls. The peanut sauce was a hit with everyone. I liked both summer rolls but found the duck on to be interesting.
