I always enjoyed going to Sarku Japan in San Francisco. My favorite mall food for years. It's simple and it's delicious noodles , chicken, and shrimp. Hanging in Downtown San Francisco area it's a good value and does the job for me when I get hungry. Nothing fancy and that is just the way I like it sometimes.

Never heard of this place! I mean of course I haven't I am never in SF but now working out here from time to time I'm getting to taste all of SF foodie places! This is located at the mall in SF super big and the food court in at the bottom floor. My coworker was talking about this place saying she loves this place it's always her go to! So my coworkers and I decided to walk over and give this place a shot. I ordered a shrimp and chicken plate which came with veggies and white rice all for the price of $10.99. Which is a good deal especially out here in SF since very thing is overpriced out here. I got myself my drink, the Fuze iced raspberry tea...yummmm! It total it came out to be $15. I love how they cook your food right in front of you and you are able to see how they cook your food. One of my coworkers got the same thing I did but instead of rice she got garlic noodles for 75c more. I tried it for myself and man that was sooo good definitely have to have that next time. My food was soooo delicious I couldn't finish it all because it's sooo filling and saved the rest of my food for later. But it was so juicy, mixing with chicken rice veggies and shrimp together was so flavorful and with sriracha just tired it all perfectly together!!! So glad my coworker showed me this place because it so good and hit the spot!! Definitely will always keep this plain mind whenever I'm in SF again!!

I ordeered double chicken twice now and it came like this last time. It seemss like they always imp at this location. The workers are rude and they it seems like they don't want to feed u. Idk how this is double chicken. I pad 14$ for what.

I used to come here all the time. I tried their chicken bento again and this time it was a let down. The chicken didnt taste that good. The potstickers and California roll were good. The roll with avocado, tempura shrimp and cream cheese was ok. It was about $23 total. Food quality might have been lacking since it was near closing time

Had the Bento box for about $13. Pretty mid food, vegetables were not fresh and California roll is bland. Rice and chicken were fine If you want Asian food, would just recommend going to the Panda express next door

To my understanding Sarku is actually a chain like Panda Express.. except for American-Japanese food that doesn't taste good. Today we have some edible chicken, decently rolled california rolls, and very fried gyoza... unfortunately, any salvation from this meal is instantly undermined by the frozen, unsalted, boiled veggies.

Sarku is at Westfield downtown. They have bento boxes for $13. Comes with California roll gyoza veggies rice meat or shrimp. Got three piece shrimp tempura. Went with my mom. Pretty good not too expensive.

I was sitting looking for food for two hours on my phone at work. I seen somebody's post on. This was the perfect box with everything in it so I ordered it and it's good and fulfilling

The food was very good for fast food. As you are ordering, there's a guy making you plate. The food tastes good and is well seasoned. They will give you extra sauce if you ask. The service was good but very fast. There is no ambiance. The sarku Japan is in the food court.

Super affordable meal at the food court. There is a glass screen where you can see the chefs make your food on the grill in front of you. There was a crowd waiting to get their food, but it was going fast. I ordered, got my utensils and my food in about 5 minutes; talk about efficiency. There is a shared eating space where you need to show proof of vaccination and is clean for the most part. I ordered the chicken and shrimp combo over rice which was a little more than $11 after tax. It came with a base of rice and a side of veggies which consisted of broccoli and sliced carrots. Simple and tasted as I expected. I thought there would be more shrimp, but there were only 4 or 5 shrimp pieces; it was mostly just chicken.

I ordered ahead on DoorDash for pickup. When I went to pick up my food, they asked for my name, which I told them. They also asked for proof of my name via DoorDash. Unfortunately, DoorDash didn't show my name on the receipt which made picking up the food a bit frustrating. On the bright side, we were able to clear the confusion and I got my food. The chicken teriyaki had both a nice crisp to it while also being tender. Likewise with the shrimp. The shrimp tempura was both light and crispy at the same time, definitely enjoyed it. The chicken teriyaki rolls were overall decent too (psst.... their sushi rolls are usually 8 pcs, but they gave me 10, yay.) If you're craving quick sushi or grilled Japanese-style food, this is a solid option.

Consistent hot food. Period. Only major issue I have with this place is it takes quite a bit of time for them to cook the orders, BUT I totally understand the reason why. There tends to be a HUGE line during the commute/lunch hours and it seems they move even slower during those times. Staff isn't super friendly but they aren't necessarily rude either. Quick, good quality lunch for anyone.

It is one of my favorite choices during lunch time. The process of check is simple and quick. And the meal size is enough big for me and tastes good.

Been here a couple of times already and the service never failed. Even came here during the Cherry Blossom Festival and the staff were still friendly / accommodating. They even put a spicy sauce on the side of one of the katsu plates when we mentioned that my dad couldn't handle all that haha. This cozy spot mainly focuses on katsu plates, but I like how they had off menu or specials to choose from if you'd like another option. I will say though them katsu plates were just chef's kiss. The meat is pounded thin enough where it's still juicy and tender, but doesn't affect the exterior from being crunchy and a bit flaky. Nothing was dry here yallll! I also like how it already comes with miso soup and salad. Huge fan of that Hamachi Truffle special though. Think of a citrusy flavor from the ponzu, fresh fish, a bit of micro greens, and a thin slice of jalapeño that just ~works~ on a cute wooden spoon that you want to steal I could honestly eat like 5 spoons of this. I'd skip on the calamari as it was kind of skimpy to share with a large group. Only note was that their fried katsu curry was a bit underwhelming with having more slices of carrots than potato! Would love to come back if I am ever in the area.

The miso soup was a delicious way to start the meal, and when my katsu arrived, it looked amazing. The meat was hot, tender, and the portion was huge, so I definitely left full. My only suggestion is to ask for the curry on the side if you like your katsu extra crispy. I had the curry poured over it, and the breading got soggy pretty quickly. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is the price. My dish was around $30, which felt a little expensive, although I can understand it given the quality of the meat and generous portions. Overall, it's a great place if you're craving katsu, and I'd definitely come back--just with the curry on the side next time!

Wait time: Not an extremely long wait between ordering and receiving food and drink. A buzzer is given to you which rings when your food is completed. Food: The yuzu salmon onigiri had a decent serving of salmon inside and on top of the rice. Good salmon flavor but slightly lacking in yuzu flavor. Chicken Curry onigiri: a mild curry flavor which again had a decent rice to chicken ratio. The chicken did taste slightly dry despite the curry sauce likely due to the nature of being a ground meat. Matcha Latte c Pistachio Cream was easily one of the best tasting matcha drinks I have had in SF. The matcha had a strong flavor and the pistachio cream did not overpower the taste of the matcha. There was a nice sweet, slightly salty, and pistachio flavor from the cream and the addition of the crushed pistachios was not a weird texture for the drink. I would definitely be interested in trying more of their matcha beverages due to quality and size of drink compared to cost.

We walked into a refined but welcoming space where the sushi counter is the main focus, and the meal unfolds course by course in front of us. There is a sense of calm throughout the room, allowing the attention to stay on the chefs, the ingredients, and the details behind each dish without the distraction of a busy dining room. The omakase experience balances traditional sushi with more creative touches. Each course brings something different, from fresh sashimi and nigiri to warmer dishes like chawan mushi that add depth to the progression of the meal. The sushi highlights the quality of the fish while incorporating thoughtful flavor combinations, with dishes like scallop and the dry-aged fish courses standing out for their texture and seasoning. The sake pairing fits naturally into the experience, adding another layer without overpowering the food, and the sommelier's selections complement the progression of flavors across the meal. What makes Kusakabe memorable is the craftsmanship and pacing of the meal. The chefs take time to explain each course, making the experience feel personal rather than rushed. Sitting at the counter adds to the atmosphere because you get to see the precision and care that goes into every piece, from the way the rice is formed to the final brush of sauce on the fish. The pacing of the meal allows you to appreciate each course without feeling rushed, and the team's attention to detail creates a rhythm that keeps the meal engaging from start to finish. Kusakabe feels like a place made for special occasions, celebrations, or anyone looking for a more elevated Japanese dining experience. It combines technique, hospitality, and creativity in a way that makes the entire meal feel like an event rather than just a dinner. The balance of traditional and modern elements, along with the warmth of the service, leaves you with the sense of having experienced something complete and thoughtfully composed.

What an experience! We were celebrating an anniversary and planned a bit last minute, but were able…read moreto snag a reservation here pretty easily. Immediately, the ambiance and service was quite nice. We were seated at the table, but typically I enjoy sitting at the bar to watch the chefs make our food. The service was amazing and they were very attentive. They also offered to take photos and gave us a little gift of hojicha tea since we were celebrating. We got the omakase, which was massive and had 18 courses. They gave us a menu so we knew what to expect for each course, and we ordered some sake. The omakase was delicious and more traditional than other places, each course was so beautiful and delicately made. This is definitely a lot of food, I would recommend the petite omakase in the future as I was stuffed, but it was a great experience if you come hungry! Courses: - Chawan-mushi - super tasty and every bite was delicious and umami forward! - Otsumami - 7 seasonal appetizers presented in a beautiful box, there was a stuffed crab claw in there that was delicious - 4 kinds of sushi - each piece came out one at a time, the first piece was my absolute favorite and blew me away, it was a seared chutoro that immediately melts in your mouth and tastes smokey - Hamachi soup - very tasty and warming soup with hamachi inside, was perfect in between the sushi course - 4 kinds of sushi - A5 Waguyu shabu - this course was extra $10 pp but was so delicious, the wagyu was melt in your mouth and had some grated daikon on top in a ponzu dashi, the toppings help balance the meat so it's overwhelming since it does melt in your mouth, one of my favorite bites! - 4 kind of sushi - they brought out some really great sushis, including more chutoro and an unagi handroll, but I was so stuffed at this point that I felt I couldn't enjoy it as much - miso soup - this soup was so tasty and kind of revived me after all that food, it felt comforting and a great way to end - dessert- I got the hojicha ice cream in a waffle like cookie and it was delicious!
