The service was horrible. The waitress acted as if we were doing her a favor by coming there. 15 minutes after we asked for our coffee we had to ask a second time and she had an attitude even after we asked nicely .When we finally did get the coffee ,it taste like the pot had not been cleaned..it had a real sour taste to it. The shrimp and grits had a tablespoon of grits and was real salty. Also I could've done without the head on the shrimp.. it just served as a purpose to take the room in the bowl and hide the tablespoon of salty grits...Absolutely a no for me..will not be going back there! Came across this restaurant in my Google search when trying to look for a cute date night spot. I saw there was a Groupon deal for a 4 course meal for 2 people for $54 and immediately made my way over. I'm not sure if the options change but we first started with an arugula salad that had nuts and onions. I think it could've done with out the onions. Next was shrimp and grits... LET ME TELL YOU. I'm not a huge fan of grits but that dish was by far the best out of all. We were also served cheddar biscuits that were average. Fried chicken was the entree and for our 2 sides we selected Mac and cheese with collard greens. Both sides paired well with entree and each was rich in flavor. Lastly, for the dessert it was Chocolate S'mores Chess Pie. I was quite disappointed in this. If it would've been warm, it would've elevated the taste and given more of that s'more vibe to it. To drink, I ordered The Local. My go to drink is Paloma and this was pretty much a paloma with a twist on it. If you do not like pimento syrup or thyme, I'd opt for something else or just get the standard paloma. I wasn't a fan but to each their own. Overall, the service was great. Our server was attentive to our need and very friendly. We arrived at 10 pm on a Saturday night and we were able to get seated right away. If you are looking for some good southern food or simply want to save some money while getting your money's worth... this is the go-to spot. I would definitely try this place out again! read more

Honestly this place was nasty. I ordered the Ft. Pierce Tilefish and the flavor was disgusting. My husband ordered the pulled pork and the flavor was also digusting. I will not be coming back here. I have been to Sassafras many times and each time it is a great experience. We never get tired of the food and each time it is a "Mouth Explosion," with the way each course is prepared. EDITS: To be perfectly clear this review has more to do with the attitude & rudeness of the front desk person we encountered - incredibly lacking in any sense of hospitality or graciousness. We had a reservation and arrived 15 minutes early to a virtually empty restaurant and our reservation was for before the big party. Perhaps the incoming party of 25 made things difficult - if that is the case then the restaurant should have been sold out for a private party and not allowed reservations. The food could be the best in the world but that alone will not overcome rudeness and poor management. Giving a two-star rating because for sure it could've been better, but the silver lining is we found a new restaurant (SPOILER ALERT it is NOT Sassafras) We started out the evening really wanting to like Sassafras until we entered into bizzarro world. We arrived right when the restaurant opened. There were a total of 5 customers in the restaurant - four at the bar (that is all it can hold unless you want to stare at a wall - very odd set up) and one at a table. We asked for a table and were told (while we looked at an empty restaurant) that they were booked for the night except for the bar. We dared to question the "sassy" (not in a good way) hostess about the empty restaurant b/c online there was plenty availability if one wanted to make a reservation. We were told they were completely booked, and she would prove it to us if we wanted to see her computer (ahhhh no thanks not nice sassy lady). To test the completely booked theory we went around the corner and made a reservation for within 30 minutes of our original arrival - we could have made a reservation for earlier as well as many spots and after (hmmmm maybe I should have taken some screen shots to prove it to sassy lady) Since we REALLY want to try this restaurant, we went back. This time sassy lady hostess argued with us about having a reservation! All while we are looking at a relatively empty restaurant. At last, she relented and found our reservation...we were (OH NO) 15 minutes early! She could not seat us but invited us to sit at the bar and look at a weird wall. When questioned about not being able to be seated in a restaurant that was rather empty, we were told it could not happen b/c they had a large party of 25 coming in 15 minutes after our reservation time ----- um what??? At this point we decided to leave and find another place. Why bother if the evening was starting out with such bizarre and rude treatment, we doubted it would get better and who in their right mind would want to spend money with such an establishment. While we did not get to actually eat at Sassafras, we were able to score a delicious meal of Southern style food just around the corner on Clematis Street (restaurant name starts with B). At B restaurant we received a warm welcome. Even though they were very busy with most tables full & bustling we were seated right away. Our server was wonderful, and the food was delicious! All ended well for us. Tend to doubt things will end well for Sassafras. read more

My wife was dying to go out for happy hour in west palm and we stumbled upon this hidden gem. Happy hour was awesome and the flavors of everything was on point. If you like Pate YOU MUST ORDER IT, that along with the other small bites and fried chicken was phenomenal. Wish I caught the girls name who took care of us because she did take awesome care to make sure we were perfect. We Had an awesome date night here and I'm sure we will be back soon. CHELSEA the "manager" is extremely rude! She was short with us and wouldn't listen to our opinion. Her whole dress was also full of sweat and she looked very unprofessional. She also called us from a fake number claiming she was police after we left no gratuity due to the poor service from a man with red hair in a bun who was dripping wet in sweat. She claimed she was the police and we needed to come back and pay the gratuity "or else". So we called the police station and they said they have no record of this compint and asked if we wanted to call in a harassment claim. When I called and told Chelsea she said you need to come back and pay your gratuity. This establishment is embarrassing honestly. I would love if the owner would call me 321-213-8021. read more

Asked to be seated inside due to sun and lack of umbrellas/shade. Had a reservation from a week ago. Hostess was extremely rude and would not accommodate us. Seating was plentiful inside and multiple couples were seated at tables of four. We know when service starts off bad it will only snowball from there. Left before we could be mistreated any further. Highly recommended staying away from this place and not contributing monetarily in any way. I'm sure they will be out of business in a matter of time. read more

Awesome new spot in Clematis. Came in on a late Friday night and found the coziest spot. Sat by the bar and had some of the best drinks I have had in a while. Manny, the bartender, was the best surprise at this place. You can tell he really has a passion for what he does. Went to sassafras for a Saturday brunch and it did not disappoint. From the service to the food it was a great experience. We started off with the biscuits and they were amazing, one of the best biscuits I have ever had. For our meals we had the key west shrimp sandwich and the eggs Benedict and both were very good, but the star of our meal was definitely the biscuits to begin with. Was skeptical to go in at first as I wanted a nice dinner and the menu looked more like bar food/tapas but we were convinced to give it a try. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The cocktails were concoctions I've never heard of before but delicious. We decided to get some apps before deciding to eat dinner (they had very limited choices for entree although very interesting options so I was intrigued to stay). We ordered flaming fried chicken skins (I know that sounds weird but wait till you try it), fried tomato with (I think) Gorgonzola cheese drizzled with honey and lastly some type of chicken sausage which came with mini what looked like mini pancakes, pickled onions and mustard. All a fusion of country dishes but oh so delicious! Definitely impressed by that and wanted to stay for dinner but here's where they lost points with me. It was a cold night tonight in palm beach (50s believe it or not). They had 2 large doors open so we were cold. I also suspected they had the AC vents running because I could feel the breeze. I asked the hostess about it and she said something about the kitchen staff being hot but didn't really hear much of the rest. So we proceeded in hopes that we'd warm up a bit (I was wearing a warm long sleeve shirt and a warm cardigan. Even my son who usually is never cold was feeling the chill. Our hands were like ice. We asked about it again but kept getting excuses. They first said it was from outside (you'd think they'd close the large doors or at least one but no. I asked them to recheck the AC because we were feeling constant air hitting us. It stopped for about 15-20 minutes so I thought ok we'll stay for dinner, but to our dismay the air kicked back up. We again asked them about the AC. Again they told us it was not the AC but from outside (there was no breeze outside as palm trees were still). At this point we felt we weren't going to eat while freezing and insulted because we were being lied to so we asked for our check for the drinks and appetizers and left to go eat dinner elsewhere. As we're walking out we didn't feel any breeze on the area closer to the door proving to us that there was definitely AC running towards our table. I have to say although the staff was friendly they did not do much to accommodate our concerns and apparently didn't care to make us feel comfortable to eat at their establishment. Highly Disappointed Came in for dinner and happy hour with some friends for my wife's birthday. We were greeted at table 67 by a young lady, and we ordered drinks ready to get our night started(6:15p). Noticing the special cocktail list we all ordered from there. Not once but twice we were told our drink would only be a few more minutes, so we order happy hour food, 1 each, about 6 of the 8 ($5-$8) options. Now the food comes, every other table has cocktails except us (only about 2 tables inside and 1 guest sitting at the bar). Never got the pimento cheese, did receive 2 orders of chicken skins($5) though. 35 minutes later, now almost 7p, 3 of us got our drinks, not what we ordered (we didn't order mules), but whatever at this point. Another 10 minutes go by and our 4th person finally received his Old Fashion. We litterly could have a had a cocktail while waiting for our drinks. We decide to make nice and just pay the bill and leave. After asking for the check, it never arrives, so I go inside to speak with a tall gentleman and explain our lack of service to which he replies 'sorry.' When I get home I look at the receipt and notice I was over charged multiple times (chicken skins on bill $9 and $12); I get it accidents happen. I called the restaurant not once but 3 times over the next week, leaving messages twice and actually speaking with someone there on a Monday doing beverage inventory (maybe Kevin) who takes my information with an apology saying someone would call when they reopened on Wednesday. Needless to say: no one called, no one cares about their guest experience, and I feel taken advantage of. 1st time in your establishment! read more
