This can be a great dinner spot but keep in mind it depends on the time you go and how many people you go with. It was fairly empty around 6PM, however it started to pick up around 7PM. Exterior: There is street parking or garage parking available (cheaper for street parking but may be limited in spots). If you park on the street, you can pay $1.25 per hour. Interior: They have wooden benches and individual chair seating. It's easier for parties or 1-6 to be seated. It may be harder for larger parties to get a table. Service: They were fast-paced in the sense that I was seated, took my order for a couple of dishes, and gave me my dishes in the span of 10 minutes. That couple be dependent on how busy this is. After walking by many times when they're closed, I decided to order delivery. They package their food very well for impeccable presentation. I've been to Sato many times since it first opened. I've tried many ramen places before but I always ended up back to Sato. There's a parking structure nearby or street parking. The atmosphere is always calm with light chatter. They have some neat wall art. The service has always been quick and efficient. The menu is short and simple but allows for variety. The karaage and curry is delicious. The summer menu cold soba is refreshing. And this is the only place with yuzu ramen! I got the tonkotsu ramen. Solid ramen spot that is open on Christmas day. They weren't overly busy and plenty of seating for lunch. I got the yuzu shio ramen, which has a light broth with a slight citrus flavor. I will have to say that I've had better yuzu shio ramen elsewhere with stronger yuzu flavor but this wins for the area and they do give a good amount of thick chashu. Also my boyfriend's spicy tonkotsu ramen didn't really deliver much of a kick and he felt it doesn't quite live up to the "hell ramen" they advertise as, but they do have plenty of spicy seasoning on the table to help with it. Overall I think they do a good job on the noodle texture though and I appreciate I can get a lighter broth. Next, I got the tonkotsu ramen. This ramen was great. I like the chew on the noodles and the flavor of the soup. The best part was they offer you a chili paste where you can add how much heat you want into your ramen. It made my ramen so much better. The service was super friendly. So I looked at another ramen place and found this amazing place and I'm so glad I did. Service is top notch, food is Amazon and Robert and Katrina were exceptional with their service. My husband was unsure between Two different ones and ended up ordering one of them. Robert went out of his way and brought him some broth to see if that's what he wanted. They were more than happy to accommodate his request. If I remember correctly I had the vegetarian one and didn't want something with it so they added more egg which was really nice of them. This place was great! ... for the SGV... in the area. I don't want to upsell it too much, even though I already see large waits outside at peak times. This is something I did not experience when I went the first time. It is remarkably easy to find street parking - which I find surprising this close to a major intersection of Old Town Pasadena (which can always be a nightmare). When I went, there was no wait. The food is very good. Unless you are a skilled ramen artisan, I might not order the Deluxe Mazesoba w/poached egg. It was not appreciated as much as the rest of the food, but we never had that before. The beef gyoza (8 pcs.) were excellent, and the spicy tonkatsu ramen was superb. Service was very friendly and attentive. The place is pretty small inside, so either get there early or expect to wait outside in the heat or cold. Nonetheless, in the area, this is the BEST! Yelp reviews gave a lot of love for this place and I'm about to do the same: We all ordered the three different kinds of ramen: shoyu, tonkatsu, and yuzu. Started with the Black Truffle Chawamushi, an egg soufflé with scallop and shrimp pieces, and some black truffle for seasoning. A nice light beginning to the meal that still felt rich. For entrees we selected the Deluxe Mazesoba and the Yuzu Shio Ramen. The Mazesoba was very rich and tasty. I loved the chashu for its grilling and protein to fat ratio, just bursting with flavor. The poached egg was goey and mixed in easily to the bowl. It came with a miso soup, simple and light and overshadowed by the Mazesoba. I was skeptical about the yuzu shio ramen but it worked. Definitely different than a rich and thick tonkatsu, this one was lighter and refreshing from the citrus. We almost finished the broth but didn't feel bloated, would get it again for sure. read more
