I enjoyed a delicious vegan noodle bowl and salted edamame. Fast service during an extremely busy weekend lunch rush.

I've been waiting for this place for months, checking the status of the grand opening everyday on Facebook, popping into North Market to see the progress, asking coworkers if it's open yet. And the day finally came, today I ordered a bowl of Tonkotsu Ramen and a Chashu Bun. The stall is definitely the nicest in the North Market, lots of seating, multiple chefs and everything was very clean. I went a few days after they opened, so the line wasn't too bad. First I tried the Chashu bun while waiting for my ramen. The bun was nice, just a typical steamed bun. But the flavor of mayonnaise overwhelms you, and the biggest problem is that it was American mayonnaise, not the yogurt based mayonnaise that Japanese food uses. The taste was good, but I wish the mayonnaise was corrected and reduced. Then the ramen arrived. I started with the broth. The best way to describe the broth is melted butter with water. There's no other taste, and my mouth still has a buttery flavor in it. Next, the noodles. They taste like they came straight out of the freezer, way too chewy to be enjoyable. Surely the pork must be good, right? The pork was a pitiful, burnt, slice of meat that no other ramen place would dare present to you. The last piece of note was the egg. The egg was cooked well, like a proper onsen tomago, but it hadn't been marinated like you would expect. In summary, this is probably the most disappointing restaurant of recent memory, and unfortunately the worst bowl of ramen I've had out of all the ramen places I've visited in America, Japan, Taiwan and China. I REALLY hope the owners can turn it around, having a nearby ramen place would be the best thing ever and I would love nothing more than to turn this into a positive review, but as it stands, I simply cannot recommend this place over even instant ramen. read more

3.5 -- We sampled the Tonkotsu and Karaage recently and I was pleasantly surprised by both. I actually don't like tonkotsu broth because it's too rich (the hallmark of Tonkotsu broth should be deep, fatty, and rich), but Satori's is actually a lot lighter and I taste a lot of ginger in the broth. Some might feel like this isn't "authentic", but I prefer lighter broths, and it's reminiscent of Tonkotsu broths I've had in Japan. The noodles are not homemade, but had a good chewiness to it and I was fine with the sparse amount of toppings. What really stood out to me is the ginger scallion sauce that goes with the karaage! It's delicious and packs so much flavor. Note that the menu calls it chimichurri Japanese garlic dipping sauce. It's actually very similar to the ginger scallion sauce eaten with Hainan chicken and is the PERFECT accompaniment to the fried chicken. The sauce was actually my favorite part of the meal. Like everything in North Market, expect smaller/streamlined portions for what you're paying. Even compared to other N Market vendors, the portion size of the ramen and appetizers are pretty small. You're not getting a ton of value for your money even though the food is still pretty good. read more

We got the Shoyu and Paitan ramen. Absolutely zero flavor, had to ask for salt to see if it improved the dish. The Paitan had 2 tiny pieces of chicken and half of a hard boiled egg. The noodles were rubbery and flavorless. The gyoza was good. I'm extremely disappointed, wasted $40. Don't waste your money. Go to Tiger + Lily instead, trust me, their ramen is amazing. read more

I was so excited to see a ramen addition to the North Market family. First impression: the appearance of the stall was very cute. You can sit at the bar and enjoy your ramen if you're lucky and snag a seat. Expect the line to order to stretched around the stall on the weekends. The texture of the ramen itself was okay. I got the kara kapow spice level 2 and it was REALLY spicy! I don't eat many foods that aren't spicy so I am used to spice. I could handle it fine but this is just a little warning to others lol. Over all it tasted good but had a lot of oil in it and the noodles were definitely undercooked. The karaage small plate is really good but overpriced for the portion you get. Cool spot in North Market. It is in the North Market so don't expect to sit on the ramen bar. The karaage was awesome. It cane out perfectly cooked and juicy. Kara Pow Ramen was very tasty...I got the #2 spicy broth, and it did have a bit of heat, but still enjoyable. The gyoza were tasty, but nothing out of the ordinary. Pork Chashu bun was tasty, but I was disappointed with the mayo on it...it tasted more like American mayo and not Japanese style Kewpie or similar. Also, the construction of the bun with the mayo on the bottom ensured that all of the mayo ran out of the bun on the first bite. Service was good, and preparation quick, even with a steady stream of tickets coming in during Sunday lunch rush. I'll be back. read more

My husband got me hooked to this place. He works near by so orders from here very often. He was sad when they closed due to Covid. I never had ramen before this place( I'm 100% confident top ramen doesn't count). I'm disappointed that I didn't try ramen before. The broth has so much flavor and the noodles are amazing. My husband took me here in November and then we went again in December. I haven't been back since, but can't wait to eat some more soon. The staff is very friendly and have no problem explaining things and substituting items. I highly recommend this place. This place and hot chicken take over are a must when we're here. read more

All the umami. One of the gems at North Market. You order at the counter, and sit at a diner/bar style counter while you wait for your order. I chose the paitan, which consists of chicken, a soft boiled egg, green onions, seasMe seeds, garlic, and a few other things, all in a delicious, umami-rich chicken broth. The noodles tasted fresh, and were a perfect al dente, and the over all flavor was better than I had expected it to be. The people behind the counter are all very friendly, and explain each dish really well. I have 1 word....AMAZING!!!! I arrived at north market at 11am since that's when most places serving lunch open and I figured it wouldn't be too busy at that time. I was wrong. I walked down to Satori only to see the chairs still flipped and some workers behind the counter. A sign was posted they wouldn't open until 11:30 so my wait began. Luckily it was a Saturday so the farmers market was on so I grabbed some staufs coffee and walked around for bit only to return to about 15 people in line. I joined them. The clock hit 11:30 but they werent quite ready, it was more like 11:40 when the 1st order was taken. I finally ordered and grabbed a seat. The staff was hustling and trying their hardest and that's what I like to see. I didnt mind the wait knowing that this place is new, and obviously still working out some kinks. For example there was 3 orders that came after mine, the same meal I ordered, yet somehow they got theirs 1st. It seems the tickets were getting out of order, a simple kink that hopefully gets resolved.....on to the food. As mentioned they just opened, the line was long, demand is high. I havent seen a line this long in a while. Currently only half the menu is available, I'm not sure why, but I definitely will be back to try the other items. On today's visit I did the Paitan Chicken ramen and the gyoza. Both were outstanding. The gyoza are fried potstickers, the filling is probably one of the best I've had. I could eat 3 or 4 orders of those. The ramen was equally as amazing. Probably the best broth ever! The noodles were fresh, you can tell they make them daily and cooked to perfection. I loved my entire meal. You can tell this place will be a huge success once they work out the kinks and are able to meet the demand. I overheard that they were already out of something within 15 minutes......if you decide to go go early. I think there will always be a line before they open. read more

Delicious food, excellent service. I got the Kara Kapow and added buttered corn and nori, with the level 3 spice. It was beautifully crafted, and the chashu pork was cooked to perfection. They have some menu add-ons that are not offered at any other ramen joint in CBUS. I definitely recommend coming here if you're in the mood for ramen and near North Market. It's always busy, hard to get a stool at the counter but there are always seats upstairs at north market. My kids are huge ramen addicts so is a fun family trip followed by doughnuts or jeni's ice cream on a Saturday or Sunday. read more

I desperately want to give this place a much higher rating. I got the tonkatsu ramen. I don't even have a big appetite and I usually roll my eyes when people complain about small portions, but holy moly, there is literally just one small bite worth of pork in the tonkatsu ramen. I've never seen a portion so small in a ramen place in my life. On quality of ramen I'd give this place a 4/5 -- the broth is great, the chashu pork is tender, the egg is cooked just right. I was excited to try this place and got the pork ramen. While it was good it was supposed to come with brisket. I'm not certain if they forgot but I seriously saw none in there. Other than that it was really good. If there was brisket in there and it was so little I couldn't find it the dish was way too expensive. I will give them another try for sure though. read more

We walked up to the north market from our apartment near Goodale Park and were excited to try some warm ramen (our walk was a little chilly). One of the best bowls of food I ever ate! I wasn't super hungry, so I just got the kid's ramen bowl. It was made fresh and the noodles were tender and perfectly cooked. It came with a fried boneless chicken thigh. The thigh was crunchy and not too much breading. Just enough to give it great flavor. As for the broth, I normally throw out ramen broth. Here? I ate every drop. If I had been at home, I'd have drank it straight from the bowl! It was stand alone good. Can't wait to go back and try one of their other items. This was my first time having Ramen, so my opinion on the quality of the food could be way off. That said, I ordered the chicken ramen bowel. The noodles were delicious and the green onion helped. I ordered without the egg. The broth was tasty, but rich and either oily or fatty. I wanted to finish the broth, but could not. Also, having whole pieces of chicken makes the meat hard to eat. I'm not used to having fried protein in broth, maybe I'm just new to the cuisine. I would have preferred smaller pieces of meat that I pick up easily.
