You don't need a preferred card to get savings here. They give the sale prices to everyone. They don't announce your name to the world like at Safeway. Save Mart does not have any of that telling everyone your name nonsense. If you bring in your own bags for groceries, they will credit you 5 cents per bag. They also have a Coinstar where you can cash in your coins and get gift cards without a fee to Starbucks, Amazon.com, iTunes, Borders, etc. There is a Bank of America ATM inside. read more

This is the grocery store I go to most often because it's right across the street from my house! Safeway is pretty close to my house too, but I still prefer Savemart. Trader Joe's and Savemart are my go to places for groceries :) Prices are cheaper for the most part and I've never had a problem with finding anything I needed. They often have a lot great sales, look out for the ads in your mailboxes! Employees here are awesome and much friendlier than any other grocery store I've ever been to. They never hesitate to see if you need any help, and I find myself carrying conversations randomly with a lot of the employees I see working all the time! One thing that bothers me is that around noon/lunch time, this place becomes overrun with high school students... It almost feels like an infestation because they're just all sitting and hanging out in front of the store :/ But I love that there's a redbox in here because I always check out the new selection of movies each time I grocery shop and it's nice to be able to kill two birds with one stone. read more

This review is strictly for their bank of america atm. I always come here to use their bank of america atms and for redbox. But today, when i stopped by the atms before going to eat at ding how i was shocked to see the little bank of america branch was gone! and the two atms outside of the instore branch was gone as well!! for a second there i freaked out slightly until i noticed there was a bank of america atm off to the side near the refrigerated veggie section. On a friday night, the line was LONG! there were at least 5 customers ahead of me all wanting to complete transactions on the atm. Good and cheap grocery store. The items here are usually cheaper than those at Safeway. For instance Roma tomatoes are $1.49/lb compared to Safeway's $2-$2.50/lb. I guess it's not a huge savings, but over time it adds up. Unfortunately, some times their produce isn't as fresh. Occasionally the tomatoes will be bruised. Once I went to get basil, and they were all limp. If you come during off hours, they'll only have 1 or 2 checkouts open, so you might want to use their self-check stations. Bank of America also has an office here, making it easy to make deposits. read more

This is probably the least pleasant grocery store in Davis. Yes, it is slightly cheaper than other stores but the food is also lower quality. There are very very few natural/organic food options if you're into those. Even if you're not, it's just not an aesthetically pleasing place. On top of the everything else, employees are difficult to find if you need help, and generally aren't very helpful or friendly. Bottom line: Cheap grocery store but you get what you pay for. This market became ghetto over the years, the workers are not those friendly ones, who smiles all the time, and makes u feel alright. I like how they have mark downs from time to time, and Bank of America is located right inside. Their prices are ok, i never buy grocery here unless i really really have to. Pro-Tip: Secret to getting cheap meat If you live closer to Safeway, there's only one reason to come here -- cheap meat!!! If you don't mind buying meat that's nearing their 'sell by' dates, then here's a way to predict meat sales. If there's a 5 for $5 sale on meats its an okay time to buy, but not the cheapest. Usually the 5 for 5 goes on a week or so before the 'sell by' dates of their meats so if you take note of the sell by dates of the meat packages and come back about a day or two before that, the meat is usually marked down a good few dollars off. Of course at this point the selection is much smaller than when the 5 for 5 sale goes on. Overall: Its your typical grocery store: -cheaper than Safeway for non-sale items -somewhat frequent meat sales -small deli section -expensive produce -big eggs This place seems to have a wider array of products overall and is more suited for people who actually cook from scratch. Compared to Safeway, this place seems to carry more items overall and has more random ingredients. The produce here however, never seems to be as fresh as Safeway. Sometimes I find half rotting heads of broccoli which is unappetizing to say the least. Fancy or Nah? Savemart's decor is still stuck in the early 2000's while Safeway has undergone a more modern design in recent years. Standard white lights illuminate the entire store which is kept relatively clean. The workers where are pretty nice although there only ever seems to be one or two cashiers at most but its not a large issue since peak hours here are never as bad as Safeway. read more

Maybe you're intimidated by the close-by Nugget and Safeway. Maybe you don't have a car and can only shop within walking distance. Either way, you've found yourself at Save-Mart. No one is more sympathetic of your situation than I. So here's the rundown to surviving this mess: Savemart is my favorite place to go for a few reasons: 1) Their water dispenser outside. Excellent waters. 2) They have a self-check out, so if you have just exited your cave for a mid-hibernation hot pocket, this is your antisocial option for the day. 3) Save-Mart generally has average deals on groceries, sometimes good beer deals. The checkers are consistently weird / tell you too much personal information, but are also very nice. As far as grocery stores go, Save Mart is the best! They always have good prices along with fresh foods, produce, and meat. I love how organized their aisles are! That might sound weird, but I swear every time I go to another grocery store I have to ask someone where to find certain products and they are always in crazy weird places that is not intuitive at all! Save Mart doesn't make me go on a wild goose chase :) This store is in a great location, near a couple small restaurants and they have a huge parking lot. The customer service is great and they are always quick with the checkout lines, a huge plus because I hate waiting in long slow lines at other grocery stores. read more

Somewhat expensive. Their store-brand/off-brand items aren't as good quality as, say, that of Safeway or other grocery stores. They definitely take advantage of the fact that a lot of students here only have bikes, thus don't have easy access to cheaper supermarkets. Cheaper than Safeway, but the freshness of some of the produce/meets can be questionable. I wish they had both doors open until close. I realize it is for security reasons to only have one set of doors open the last few hours of being open and the walk to the next door is not far, but it is somewhat inconvenient. I live like a 10 minute walk from this place so I come here pretty often. However, their prices for certain things are kind of expensive. Granted, this is Davis, and everything is expensive... this place is not always the best "deal" in town. I usually just wait for the weekly ads they send in your mail and I circle and take note the ACTUAL deals that are worth it. That's when I really save money with Savemart. Highlights Friendly staff. Clean. Self check-out and check-out with a cashier. Bank of America ATM. Boo Not enough variety of produce. Expensive produce. Small bakery. Lots of high school kids during weekdays around noon. (haha) I am guilty being one of those high school kids when I was in high school. It was THE thing to do during lunch! However, now I am an adult and I would advise all shoppers to stay away from Savemart around noon time on a weekday... unless you want to be swarmed by a bunch of children being inappropriate (sometimes shoplifting!!! yes I witnessed it)... and wait in long lines. Store was dirty, no service, front end clerk was running a check stand and 4 self serve check stands at one time. Only one other checker. It was very busy. The clerks could not give good customer service because the store is so under staffed. read more

The self checkout attendant acts like she's never seen a single mother of color before and was hovering over me the entire transaction although there were three other individuals checking out right behind me. I feel bad giving them three stars. They are a really good store, it's just a cheaper place, so it's three stars as compared to well nugget and such. I've been coming to this place for years. ever since it was Albertson's. and I liked Albertson's better, even though the quality of stuff is more or less the same, idk. maybe a personal thing. The cakes/desserts here are never good. if you want a cheap, but better doughnut, you might want to keep driving and go to safeway instead. Their fresh rolls are really good, and I do buy them every few days. They are 3 for a dollar, and make for great lunch sandwiches. In the freezer isle, you can find some frozen indian foods, that are cheaper than the ones offered at nugget, but, they are cheaper. I come here often, and used to live across the street, and now I don't live very far either, so they have been very conveniently located. The staff here is usually very helpful and nice. Avoid during lunch hour and right around 3, because the high school is pretty close by, and this place gets flooded by high schoolers that take forever to order whatever they want from the food counter, or choose whatever they want from the isles. haha. The prepared food here, is really not that great. but, if you are just looking to buy some fresh meat and veggies at a decent price, this is a good place to come to. read more

I've never been to a savemart before until coming to Davis, and it's nothing really special in my opinion. It has a limited selection compared to other stores and the prices aren't that cheap either. I honestly prefer safeway even though it's a little bit pricer, they have more selection there. Plus the sales at savemart aren't anything great either, and you can probably find better deals at Safeway when there items go on sale. read more

This slightly ghetto big-box store has a mildly depressing feel to it but nonetheless I find myself a fan; their produce is reasonably priced and lovely, they have a small bulk-foods section, and their beer selection is pretty darn vast. Plus, the staff (if slightly haggard and businesslike) is extremely competent. Add to this that they have five self-checkout stations and this place is WIN if you want a favorable quality-to-price ratio with a minimum of time spent. I wouldn't want to settle down and raise kids here, but as far as getting an errand done and done right, this place is solid. RECOMMEND. read more

You guys need to fix your potato wedge recipe, the potato's have a mildewy taste to them every time I get them and each time I get them I hope they taste better but they don't. Please either use different potatoes or cut all the skin off getting the gross mildew taste. Other than that the store is my go to store and has just the basic needs for a household. read more

Whenever I went to this store they were always so very friendly and helpful. They usually have choice clearance items in the back near the juice. I always liked how they always have better deals on veggies and meat than other supermarkets. Everything I bought from this store was always great in quality and price. You have to go into Save Mart with open eyes. You get pretty much everything you need to know right from the title. Yes, it's cheap(ish). Yes, it's low quality. Unfortunately, without bottom-of-the-barrel pricing, the savings usually don't make up for the quality hit. You're not going to find anything that phenomenally better than sale prices at Nugget or Safeway, and squishy cucumbers and a general sense of bare-bones sterility makes the shopping experience particularly unpleasant. Ive NEVER been treated so poorly by a Savemart employee I had grabbed one of those oven roasted turkeys but it had no price. I initially only came in for chips so I only grabbed a 10 out of my bag and left the rest in the car. I went to the self check out and it was 10 dollars. No one was up there at the moment mind you. I could have left it there but I put it back and then came back to the check out. Carol said what is this. Again I could have said I dont know. I told her i was checking the price. She rolled her eyes VERY dramatically with an UGH . I said really? Im sorry, i didnt know I couldnt do that. She said Well you should have asked. The Savemart in Davis looks quite old and less than as clean as it should be. It may look this way due to stained floor tiles, old . it needs a redo. Couldn't find what we needed. We had to go elsewhere for meat. Nothing but 1 tri tip available at the time. We needed several. On to another store.......sorry. Probably won't be back. Store needs WORK, BADLY!!!! read more

I've read most of the reviews on here and I'm somewhat surprised by most of the negative reviews. The phrase "lower quality" is thrown around a lot and ghetto is used a few times. However, I tend to buy the same 25 things regardless of where I shop and the brands here are 99% the same brands. The difference here is savemart is 10-30% less than safeway and 30-40% less than the nugget. Sure, the store isn't the most aesthetically pleasing in Davis. However, it is easily the cheapest in price on almost everything. Not sure why people say its dangerous -this is Davis people, no place is dangerous. Its not like your safety is threatened at this location. If you want ghetto, go shop in south sac off Florin Road or go to Vallejo. half gallon OJ here? 2.80. Nugget? 4.50. Safeway? 3.00-3.50. Pretty typical grocery store. Nothing fantastic or horrible about it, in my experience anyway. Pros: - Their produce is much better than Safeway's, and the same price-ish. - It's about a 2 minute walk from my apartment. - Self-checkout. Not gonna lie: I go here out of sheer laziness as its around the corner from our house. It has the basics, the atmosphere is lacking, and don't even think out getting something unusual here. But, if you need something brand name or genetically modified and Save Mart is the closest place for it, why not go? Don't let the name deceive you however, most things seemed about the same price as the Safeway around the corner. They also have a Bank of America ATM inside which is helpful. read more

I used to go here all the time when I lived across the street in Davis. Now I went back because a friend of mine needed ingredients for a cake. They have plenty of sale items here and it works well when you want to hurry up, pick up what you want and leave. The prices are reasonably price and it wasn't overly crowded. If I am in the area I will come here to pick up stuff but nothing spectacular, just like any other decent supermarket. read more
