Place was recommended, but when we (2 of us) showed up, it was obvs crowded & we hadn't known to call ahead, like the window sign said. Decided to take our chances. Placed order, paid on card, ahead of going to sit down, added 20% tip, again, before sitting. Found a seat outside. Took at least 1/2 hour before I again got up to check on our food. I'm not sure our order had been remembered, let alone placed. We ordered a small pizza and a Greek salad, the salad which was recommended to me by the person who took our order. Finally, someone brought us our food. No napkins or silverware (I had snagged them off the next table, which someone had left behind). No feta on my salad. I said something to the server. He said "We are out of feta". In a shrug sort of way, like Oh Well. I ate it anyway, bc late and starving, but he offered no recompense. No apology. No "I'll comp your dinner", no free dessert, no "Do you want something else in addition/instead". Just an Oh Well attitude, and went away. If the counter person didn't know they had no feta, why didn't the kitchen inform her? So she could let us know, and I could order something else? The communication breakdown was on the part of the restaurant. The food was good, or could have been, but without the feta, it wasn't a Greek salad, and I was sorely disappointed. My dinner partner wasn't impressed with the pizza, though I thought it was okay. We won't likely be eating there again. Or if we ever do, we'll pay AFTER the meal, and/or tip AFTER the meal. Stopped driving through town and ordered the kids some homemade ice cream. My daughter ordered the Dubai Chocolate ice cream and ate the whole thing, but my son ordered Chocolate Peanut Butter but wasn't a fan that it had peanuts in it (he is picky). Sweet escape is our go-to on the cape- a trip down wouldn't be complete without it. Their homemade ice cream is the best and their prices are very reflective of size and quality. Cranberry bog, lavender fig, any of the chocolates are always a hit in our family although any of the flavors are delicious. Tried the cookie dough this year and the vanilla is so rich but the dough pieces are a bit sparse, but when you find some it's obviously homemade (&possibly a mix of regular dough and Oreo!) The pizza is lovely too, thin crust and not greasy at all. The white pizza (verde) came loaded (we added chicken) so they seem generous with their toppings. When it comes to muffins, I defer to American experts, but I'd still bet the croft that Savory's muffins--especially the pistachio, raspberry and chocolate, the Carmen Miranda of muffins--are by far the best as well. Here's the thing about this place. I've been coming here for YEARS because there really isn't much else in Truro when it comes to ice cream or pizza. And, truth be told, the product itself is pretty good. But the management is--and I don't say this lightly--as nasty and cruel and mean spirited as any I've encountered ANYWHERE. EVER. They berate their lovely young employees in front of customers and I'm fairly sure they just arbitrarily make up prices when you get ice cream. Went into savory for ice cream. We were the only customers and there were no employees at the counter. Went to the rear of the store where employees were working in a kitchen area and politely asked if anyone could service us. A woman who seemed to be the manager said in an annoyed voice, 'Read the sign'. There are many signs in the store so we went to the door to read the sign about the store hours to make sure the ice cream area was open. The sign indicated it was, so we went back to the counter trying to figure out what sign she was talking about. Then she angrily rushed out of the prep area and banged on the counter bell for service and walked away. We noticed there was a small sign next to the small bell that said 'ring bell for service'. Then a very pleasant young worker came and served us. As we were leaving my friend went back to find the manager and very politely explain to her that we didn't know what sign she was referring to. The manager went on a crazy tirade, yelling and swearing(!) at her, basically saying she didn't have time to deal with this. My friend, a woman in her 70s, was shaken by the incident. We had take out lunch here the other day, they do a really nice job with the social distancing, order at one window and pick up at another around the corner. They have outdoor, shaded seating which is good. Tables are well spaced. She had the power salad and I had the turkey wrap. She loved the salad and the wrap was tasty. Prices are Cape Cod reasonable. Great Ice Cream spot. Food is another issue. Hand Cut Fries were absolutely the worst we have ever had. Obviously reheated in oil not hot enough, just a limp soggy greasy inedible mess.
