Sawanee has been on my radar ever since I read about them in a Hartford Courant article a while back. Finally got there this evening, and happy I did. Decent sized parking lot. Greeted and seated quickly. I opted for the basil fried rice w chicken and a Thai iced tea. Beverage came out quicky, with the entree following in a reasonable amount of time. Delicious. Plenty of chicken and veggies perfectly spiced over fried rice. Priced fairly. Not an overabundance of food, but just the right amount for me (we tend to overeat anyway). Service was outstanding. Dada, who's worked there for 10 years, checked on me numerous times. Very friendly, efficient, and personable. The owner, AJ, also checked on me several times. Also very personable. Opened the restaurant in 2001. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend, and definitely will return soon. 4.5 spicy stars rounded to 5 Yelp stars.

Very good lunch today. We really enjoyed our drunken noodles and chicken soup. The lunch menu has a large selection and the portion size was perfect .

Date night with the hubby was good but would have been better if our food was great. Our server was very friendly. She never told us her name so I'm not able to say who it was. The decor was fitting for the type of cuisine we had since it was Thai food. We did have an unwanted guess buzzing around us which annoyed my husband who kept having to swap it away lol. I absolutely love Thai food but the sauce for the calamari was too watery and I was not impressed with the taste of their Pad See Ew. For some reason the broccoli and carrots were not seasoned. I will say that the shrimp was Cooked perfectly. My husband did enjoyed his deep fried snapper with basil. We did have dessert which was high light of dinner. I ordered the Thai ice cream with roasted peanuts and sticky rice with coconut. Very delicious!

Drunken Noodles with chicken this felt more like a lunch portion.

Take out order, ordered the fresh wraps along with a chicken mushroom soup and Drunken Noodles with the protein being chicken. I must say the portion sizes for the price we're just really small and it was disappointing I just didn't feel that it had the right spice that I enjoyed. I have a couple go to Thai places and this place just comes up short.. but wasn't the worst place that I've ever eaten at so I give it three stars. I just felt like I was getting lunch portions at dinner prices.

Today, I am doing a rare lunch review. I have a lot of errands to run including a facial (for my oily skin), emissions (for my Lucerne) and primary card physician (for phlegm in my throat). I haven't been here in years but I do think it's one of the best for Thai food. There are two menus, lunch and dinner (available all day). For my drink, I'm having lychee juice. I've never had this before (except with Grey Goose vodka). This comes in a mason jar. Yummy . I love these things. The lychee is a tropical tree native to the Guangdong, Fujian, and Yunnan provinces of Southeast and Southwest China, where cultivation is documented from the 11th century. China is the main producer of lychees, followed by Vietnam, India, other countries in Southeast Asia, the Indian Subcontinent, Madagascar and South Africa. A tall evergreen tree, the lychee bears small fleshy fruits. The outside of the fruit is pink-red, roughly textured, and inedible, covering sweet flesh eaten in many different dessert dishes. Lychee seeds contain methylene cyclopropyl glycine which can cause hypoglycemia associated with outbreaks of encephalopathy in undernourished Indian and Vietnamese children who had consumed lychee fruit. For my appetizer, I'm having the Fresh Spring Rolls, or Poh-Piah Sod, made with stuffed fresh vegetables, tofu and rice noodles. They come with a dipping sauce made with a chili sauce and thick, creamy peanut sauce. I prefer this to the Vietnamese version. For my salad , I'm having the Papaya Salad , or SomTum, mixed with garlic tomatoes , string beans and peanuts . "Spicy rating you ask (1-5)"? 5, please. Not bad for a heat level of 5. I can feel it! This is great ! I didn't realize it comes with rice (dinner-sized version). Note how they kept the rice in a sealed basket and wrapped in plastic. For my soup , I'm having the Galanga Broth (chicken or shrimp ) with chicken or Tom Kah. This is a mild, delicious coconut soup made with galanga, lemongrass and lime juice. Yeah! This is slightly sour and unimaginably good ! What a unique taste ! Alpinia galanga, a plant in the ginger family, bears a rhizome used largely as an herb in Unani medicine and as a spice in Arab cuisine and Southeast Asian cookery. It is one of four plants known as "galangal". Its common names include greater galangal, lengkuas, and blue ginger. For my entrée, I'm having, off of the "Sawadee Recommendations" portion of the menu, the Beef Macadamia. This one has no Thai translation. Beef and macadamias?! That's an interesting combination. By the way, if you have a peanut allergy, stay home. It's in everything. Anyhow, this is made with cubed steak sautéed with macadamia nuts , pineapple , carrots , mushrooms , bell peppers, baby corns , onions , scallions and fresh ginger. You have to love the carrot flower ! This also comes with (exposed) rice. This tastes very fresh! Yummy ! For my dessert , I'm having the Mango Delight which is fresh mango with sweet coconut sticky rice , topped with coconut milk and sesame seeds. You need to try this! Nonr of this is making it home ! Yes, about 1/2 of this is for my dinner tonight.

I love Sawadee! Not only is it in an incredibly convenient location, but it's always so tasty! The staff is so friendly and hard-working and are always fielding a number of different tasks in the restaurant. They have great boba drinks in a number of flavors. I love their pad Thai as it's always quite tasty. I have ordered with extra chicken in the past as the serving is large and I can make 2 meals out of it. My partner had the drunken noodles made extra spicy and added duck to it. The duck at Sawadee is perfect and crispy and so flavorful! Thanks again Sawadee!

Delicious Thai food and great service with a beautiful relaxing ambience . We had rad na dish as well as crispy spring rolls and tofu with Thai basil (krapow). Definitely check it out. Very vegetarian friendly and welcoming for everyone.

I took out lunch specials from here. Food got ready quickly. Quantity was small. Drunken noodles was good. If you like coconut milk, go with panang curry. It had nice coconut milk flavors.

Excellent and friendly service. Many tasty dishes and the food comes out hot. If you haven't been there this is worth a try. Very reasonable prices and it's a clean open restaurant.

I stopped in here with my mom on a Thursday afternoon to enjoy some lunch. I pass this place all the time since I live in the area and have never tried it so was happy we were finally heading in. They are located in a small plaza with plenty pf parking and an easy to spot sign out front. The inside was cozy and cute, I enjoyed the decor and overall atmosphere. The servers were quick to seat us and take our order. They were also friendly and explained any questions well. The food was amazing. We got the duck curry and a hot basil, both lunch portions, and were amazed to see how large the portions were and how good the food was. Quality ingredients and flavorful. I'd recommend a stop in if you have a craving for Thai food!

10/10 I really enjoyed this Thai restaurant. The food was amazing, we were Ina nf our fast. We did go at lunchtime on Friday. So, I'm not sure how it is at their bussy time. But we got soup of the day ( bamboo chicken) an appetizer, two yellow curries with crispy chicken and a side of white rice. The email came with a crispy eggroll. They had a great wine and beer selection. The location was clean, quiet but we can hear other conversations. The service was prompt and we did not feel rushed. Definitely recommend

First time ordering from this restaurant…read more I had a question and tried to call. They picked up the phone and immediately hung up both times I tried to call so maybe they were very busy? Not great service there. Delivery arrived promptly and the food was nice and hot. It was well packed, too, with layers of cardboard so things didn't get squashed and all the sauces and liquids were in plastic bags so they didn't leak all over the bag. The Crab Bags were excellent. Good ratio of filling to wonton. Great flavor. Some of the best I've ever had. The Orange Chicken came with the sauce separate so the chicken was nice and crisp. Nice layer of vegetables under the chicken; but the taste wasn't great. We won't order this again. The Panang Curry was very disappointing. The sauce was way too watery--I thought it was soup at first. There was no depth of flavor; just watery taste. There also wasn't very much beef. I asked for mild spice and the spice was very mild. Just a little kick on the after taste, so that was just right. But overall this dish was definitely not worth the money. If we order again I'll try the Pad Thai instead. Later: I dumped all the rice in the container of sauce and after it sat there for quite a while it absorbed enough of the sauce to not be so watery any more and the flavor improved (and so did the kick). But waiting for over an hour to eat it and having to re-heat is not optimal and the flavor was just ok.

It was maybe 10 minutes later when I got there and my order was already ready! It was still nice and hot so I was pretty impressed. It was $24 for both items which wasn't terrible at all. The restaurant was pretty empty but also quite dark. No hostess at the front--the loud slam of the door was enough to alert someone to come assist me. The level 4 spice I got on my Pad Thai was terrific--noticeable spice and got my sweat ready to drip.. but not crazy spicy where it was inedible. I was also able to taste the nice tang from the pad thai sauce. Chicken was cooked nicely. Overall no complaints. Very tasty! The mango sticky rice was a great end to the meal. The sticky rice was still warm and there was a generous amount of mango to top it. They had the coconut sauce in a separate container which I appreciated. The sauce was more on the runny side, so I wished it was a bit more thick. Overall though, so so tasty. Subtly sweet and had great balance of flavors. I would definitely come back, but for take out only as the vibes inside the restaurant was not quite it.

This restaurant was bought 5/6 years ago by the Chinese restaurant across the street. Their building was demolished. For my first drink, I'm having a Singha. Singha is Thailand's original premium lager, first brewed in 1933, known for its rich taste with strong hop character, and is often paired with spicy food. Its logo features the mythical golden lion (Singha) and the Garuda, a symbol of royal approval, making it a distinctive Thai brand with significant international sponsorships in sports like Formula 1 and football. The name also refers to numerous Thai restaurants worldwide that serve its cuisine. They have only beer and wine here. The cold beer glass matches the brand of the beer! This is good. It's cold and easy to drink. For my salad, I'm having the SomTum. Som Tum Thai (Green Papaya Salad) is a beloved Thai salad characterized by a vibrant mix of shredded green papaya, chilies, garlic, cherry tomatoes, long beans, roasted peanuts, and dried shrimp. The dish is defined by its bold, refreshing balance of spicy, savory, tangy, and slightly sweet flavors, often dressed with fish sauce, lime juice, and palm sugar. This is good! It's a big portion. I love the fresh iceberg lettuce cups. For my soup, I'm having tom Yum. Tom yum is a popular Thai hot and sour soup, known for its aromatic broth flavored with lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime leaves, and chilies, balanced with lime juice, fish sauce, and sugar. The most common version, Tom Yum Goong, features shrimp, but it can also be made with chicken, pork, or seafood. It comes in a clear broth (nam sai) or a creamy version (nam khon), which adds evaporated milk or chili paste. This is hot and yummy! Lots of chicken! The tomatoes retain a lot of heat! For my my entree, I'm having the Massaman Curry with chicken. Massaman curry is a rich, mild, and flavorful Thai curry with Persian and Indian influences, known for its complex, aromatic spices like cardamom, cinnamon, and cloves, and its creamy texture from coconut milk, peanuts, and potatoes. It's less spicy than other Thai curries and balances sweet, salty, and sour tastes, often made with chicken, beef, or duck, and served with rice. They add peanuts too! I'm going to Christen a bottle of Melinda's Bhut Jolokia Ghost Pepper sauce. The pepper is supposedly 1M Scoville units. Yeah. That's hot. The sauce is not that hot. It's maybe 50K Scoville units. The Massaman Curry is real good! It's hot and delicious. What a great meal here!

I'm a vegetarian so I'm always on the lookout for good vegetarian food. We tried the Thai spring rolls, Drunken noodles (which might be made with oyster sauce so be aware if you are vegetarian) with tofu and sesame bean curd. By far our favorite was the sesame tofu (bean curd). It was crispy and light, slightly sweet and spicy and overall tasty. I've tried several other places in the area and this is my fav so far. The veggie spring rolls were also very tasty, but small. Still great tho, I don't love huge portions, but I did wish I had more of these (shared these and my roommate loved them). When I went to pick up inside the place looked clean, although when I went to the counter the couple and their (i assume) daughter did not seem very interested in getting up to help me.
