bbq chicken (no. 31) with plum sauce (sweet and sour)

We came back 18 years plus for the orig bbq chicken! And it was even better than I remembered. We ate like cavemen, picking up the large pieces of moist chicken drenched in addictive plum sauce with our bare hands (disposable plastic gloves available for the more gentle folk)!

Food was amazing, staff is so friendly, and the interior is gorgeous. Definitely recommend this restaurant if you're in Bainbridge!

The service was quick and efficient. The food was versatile and delicious. The ambiance was on point and tranquil. We were in town for a couple days and visited during a power outage due to high winds, the restaurant was clean, their identity was clear and the staff is a well oiled machine. We believe the mother or the matriarch of the restaurant came out to greet us and thank us, which is a very important part of being in the restaurant industry that they acknowledge you and thank you for your business. Our host of the Airbnb gave us a very detailed manual of restaurants and places to see and this was one of the restaurants with high reviews and definitely a must as this menu is extensive and offers as well as other key items for those loving Thai food.

It's alright. Although its price point and reputation might lead you to conclude it's a more upscale version of the closely related Sawan Thai restaurant over on the south side of the island, I've always preferred the atmosphere of the latter as a sit-down restaurant experience - not to mention the dining room, as of November 2022, still hasn't reopened since the start of the pandemic. That said, if Sawadty's is your favorite Thai place on the island, that would be totally understandable; I think there's a lot of pros & cons, things about the experience that are subjective or really just determined by personal taste. The seafood options here are probably the best of any of the Thai restaurants on the island. If you're going for Pad Thai, the Shrimp (Phad Thai Goong) is a worthwhile ($2) upgrade, especially compared to the Shrimp Pad Thai over at Sawan. On top of the shrimp being noticeably better cooked, you get almost twice as much food (as Sawan's version) for a pretty similar price. The way they garnish is noticeably greener/more colorful than Sawan's, but not necessarily in a way that benefits the dish - lot of big uncooked chunks of scallion that, as much as I love scallions, were a little overpowering in certain bites. Their sauce is darker and more of a complex flavor than either of the other main Pad Thai options on the island, but again, not necessarily in a way that I prefer. Felt a little heavy and easy to get sick of. On the other hand, fond memories of their Seafood Yellow Curry. A little simple, with big chunks of carrot and potato, but tasty, decent serving size and works well for takeout. As other reviewers have noted, they will make your food very spicy if you want them to and they're usually pretty good about not accidentally going spicier than requested. While the differences between it and the other two Thai options on the island aren't so huge you could ever pick a clear winner (beyond personal preference,) I'm definitely still sticking to Sawan as my go-to for local Thai. If you aren't local, its inconvenient location, (current) lack of dine-in, and lack of bang for your buck would make me hesitant to recommend going out of your way for it.

    Spring rolls, chicken peanut satay,

Absolutely fantastic service and food! The spices danced on my taste buds, creating a flavor explosion. I can't wait to return and indulge in even more delicious dishes!

All are welcome in this lovely little treehouse of a restaurant. Seriously though, this is a great spot for people-watching during the summer months. After you order food, they will begin making the magic happen. You can then take in the sights and sounds of Bainbridge since you're sitting on one of the busier corners of the island (total guess, I've only been here twice but it seems accurate). You'll see people from all over the world with a tiny backpack with just enough supplies for a day trip. Emmy's seemed like they had a good amount of meat-free options, so we decided to indulge for our only meal during our trip. Little did we know that EVERYTHING ON THE MENU was vegan! This made the experience super fun because I was trying dishes that I've been eating since I was a kid, but veganised. I've never seen a restaurant try to make a meatless sesame chicken, but they nailed it here. The sauce was really what makes the dish taste just like the original. The chicken isn't exactly chicken-y, but it has a nice texture and tastes wonderful. I'm not entirely sure of the name of the next dish we ordered, but it was some sort of kebab-vermicelli-bowl-situation that sounded too interesting NOT to try, and I was right! There are egg rolls layered throughout this thing that are DEEPLY fried and almost have a mashed potato consistency inside. They seem very untraditional, but I looooved the addition to this bowl. The kebab was a surprising twist on a vermicelli bowl, I almost had a hard time believing that this wasn't meat! This was an outstanding order, but definitely needs to have sauce applied liberally to be consumed at its highest power. I love what Emmy's Vege House is doing in taking a multitude of cuisines, fusing them together, and then making them vegan. They're creating an atmosphere where anyone can come eat and be welcomed with open arms in Bainbridge!

We got a vermicelli salad (5/5) & teriyaki strips (4/5). The vermicelli salad came with the perfect portions of every veggies, a side bottle of sauce so I could add as much as I'd like and was topped with two egg rolls. The teriyaki strips were good but not as great as the kabob vermicelli. Came with a good amount of veggies & rice. Service was amazing, the lady did a great job of reminding us the menu is all Vegan. The food also came out pretty quickly, which is perfect because we were very hungry after getting off the ferry.

It was a busy night and we brought our 1 year old son with us. We placed our orders while waiting in line outside (this is their standard process it seems), so if you are looking for a slow relaxed meal this might not be it - but the wait is worth it. When we were seated they had a full set of children's dinnerware (tray, toddler utensils, bowl) which was very impressive. The servers were all so friendly with our son which was delightful. The changing station in the bathroom was also very nice, with a soft cover, and they even provide wipes and other consumables you might need. The bathroom was very clean as well. Oh and the food is absolutely delicious! The dipping sauces for the chicken were all so good, and the texture of the chicken was perfect, moist and tender steamed chicken. The grilled chicken was also very juicy. We also loved the thai lime tea, a variant of thai milk tea which balances the sweetness with tangy/bitter lime. Very refreshing! We will definitely be ordering takeout/visiting the restaurant again!

But don't let its lack of visibility be the reason you don't go there. It is well worth a visit! The restaurant is in a cozy little space. It is run by Thuy (the owner) and her competent and friendly staff. They have great Pho, both traditional broth, as well as chicken and vegetarian broths. We really appreciated the latter since many pho places do not offer one or both of the latter. I order the chicken pho and my girlfriend the tofu and veggie. Both were delicious and filling, and they provided plenty of additional ingredients to put into our pho, as is typical of pho places. The pho was served in metal bowls, with clean chopsticks, spoons and forks provided at the table. At one point Thuy herself came out to chat with us, which was an added bonus. She was so helpful answering our questions about the food, and even gave us a much-needed lesson on how to pronounce her name when we asked. (If you say it with a falling tone you will definitely impress her. :) ) I added Thuy's to my small but grown list of favorite places on the Island.
