I have been a fan of this restaurant for around twenty years. The menu has always been full of and amazing variety of options and everything tasty. I could probably have licked my plate clean on every meal that I have ever had there. Generally, there has always been excellent customer service, and all the things that you would expect from a great restaurant. However, a couple of days ago I had a really bad experience. I live pretty far away, and there are thai restaurants closer to my home. Sawatdy restaurant is a twenty mile drive in one direction from my home. Yet, I will patronize it every now and again to bring business to her restaurant and because its been my favorite. I don't think I'll be going back. This post is not to discourage anyone from going. The food is generally amazing. And again, the service is top notch. I drove all the way to the restaurant a couple of days ago and ordered three things. The stuffed wings, a pad Thai dish, and drunken noodles. The bill was $75 and some change. The food portions were amazingly large, which is always good when you get your money's worth. From the order, the chicken wings were exceptional. They were outstanding very delicious as they have always been. However, the two main dishes, one for myself and one for my sister were absolutely disastrously bad. They both were like they had been either cooked earlier in the day, and left out for too long, or overcooked. On both of our dishes, the meat was really bad and the food was dry. In my nearly twenty years of going to the restaurant, it's never been like that ever. We couldn't eat them. And both of us can eat just about anything! I called and because the owner knows me, we had a great conversation about me coming back to the restaurant and getting the two dishes made again. Knowing that I live twenty miles in one direction away, it was gonna take me a few days to go back. Maybe even a week or so. We had an agreement that I was counting on to get the two dishes redone, but not the stuffed chicken, of course. When I called today saying that I was going to drive back for the two dishes I was told that they would only replace one. I had two dishes that were severely overcooked or dried out, or old. One dish, the chicken wings were delicious.I didn't want to refund. And I was told they would only replace one. So I went back and I got the one dish, which was the drunken noodles. And it was absolutely up to par.It was outstanding as it should have been the first time. Fresh meat fresh noodles fresh everything! I've included a picture. I'm disappointed though, because i've always been a patron of the restaurant who's never complained about their food. I've always elevated the food to my friends and colleagues and I've even brought people to that restaurant in the past. Getting one dish replaced when two dishes were bad does not sit very well with me. So I will go to the restaurants near me in Poulsbo and Silverdale instead. And we'll forget about and say farewell, to what was my favorite Thai restaurant in Kitsap County. Yep it's the principle of the thing. Paying nearly a hundred dollars for the two meals to be terrible. Explaining that they were knowing that i've never done that before or had that experience in twenty years, and to be only provided with one dish as a replacement is just not okay. Now we will close this by saying that was my only bad experience in twenty years. And I know everyone loves that restaurant. And I do recommend that you patronize it. My backing out, and choosing to take it off my list is a thing of principles. read more

I have two new obsessions. #4 rolls as an appetizer - but it's a huge portion, be prepared. Then! V3! Who knew?!?! I don't really eat it as a soup. I tend to pour off some of the "soup" but oh it's yummy! Service is always polite, courteous and prompt. Ambiance is cozy. read more

For those who have done take-out here, and were unhappy that the food was not available when you arrived, I had a similar experience during the pandemic. I live 2 minutes from the restaurant. I would ask every single time, "When will it be ready?" Each time, they would give me a time, e.g., 25 minutes. I would arrive right on time, and often have to wait, occasionally as long as 30 minutes after I arrived. Finally, i blew up in the lobby. The owner stepped me outside, and i discovered that for one of the dishes I had ordered, the chef wanted the spinach to still be fresh and not completely wilted, so they did not start the order until I arrived. After a conversation in which I said that i actually LIKED the dish with wilted spinach, and that I was unhappy with the service, I never had the problem again, as long as I mentioned that on the phone. read more

It really pains me to write this. I've been a loyal customer for 8 years. Every order I make is over $100. The last two times I've ordered the wait has been at least 2x what the online menu says. This time I was in a hurry so I called in advance and confirmed the wait time. I was told it was 25-30 minutes. So I went ahead and placed my order. I waited a full 40 minutes before showing up because I know they get busy and I wanted to be fair. I arrived and was told it wasn't ready. I waited 15 more minutes and then asked for my money back. They then went back to the kitchen and 5 minutes later came back w my food but refused a refund. Honestly I don't want food for free and I want to be reasonable it they need to tighten things up and be at least close to accurate when people call in to ask. I just can't order from them again and that makes me feel bad because I've enjoyed their food over the years. read more

You know the restaurant where everything on the menu is fantastic and you can't go wrong with whatever you order? That's what Sawatdy represents and has for decades. I have been dining here since they opened in the early 1990s and the food is always, always on point. Favorites include garlic pork, drunken noodles, all the curries, and pad Thai. The waiters are always willing to accommodate intolerances or allergies and to guide one around the menu to avoid these issues. The menu is very well formatted with great explanations. I rarely write reviews and more rarely, bad ones. I don't want to hurt a business. But this was so bad, I feel ripped off. First and last time I ate at this Thai restaurant I was disappointed. It was just not good and that was about 8 years ago. Eight years later, tonight, I thought I'd give it another chance. Encouraged by the amount of cars parked in front. I ordered a Thai soup with chicken and Pad Tha noodles with pork. The soup was ok, but not very Thai like. But the pad Thai was the worst I have ever eaten. Tasted absolutely like shredded wet cardboard. a weird flavor that was really a non flavor. The meat was like dried up old restaurant meat chunks. i'm extremely mad that I spent the money there. First off, The food was great and the girls up front seemed very nice and greeted me. I was coming in for a take out order and A Man who had Black glasses who addressed me about my food was very rude to me and not showing very good customer service. Another thing I noticed was he was on his phone a lot under the front desk and seemed very distracted. The service was quick and efficient. The food was versatile and delicious. The ambiance was on point and tranquil. We were in town for a couple days and visited during a power outage due to high winds, the restaurant was clean, their identity was clear and the staff is a well oiled machine. We believe the mother or the matriarch of the restaurant came out to greet us and thank us, which is a very important part of being in the restaurant industry that they acknowledge you and thank you for your business. Our host of the Airbnb gave us a very detailed manual of restaurants and places to see and this was one of the restaurants with high reviews and definitely a must as this menu is extensive and offers as well as other key items for those loving Thai food. read more

It's alright. Although its price point and reputation might lead you to conclude it's a more upscale version of the closely related Sawan Thai restaurant over on the south side of the island, I've always preferred the atmosphere of the latter as a sit-down restaurant experience - not to mention the dining room, as of November 2022, still hasn't reopened since the start of the pandemic. That said, if Sawadty's is your favorite Thai place on the island, that would be totally understandable; I think there's a lot of pros & cons, things about the experience that are subjective or really just determined by personal taste. The seafood options here are probably the best of any of the Thai restaurants on the island. If you're going for Pad Thai, the Shrimp (Phad Thai Goong) is a worthwhile ($2) upgrade, especially compared to the Shrimp Pad Thai over at Sawan. On top of the shrimp being noticeably better cooked, you get almost twice as much food (as Sawan's version) for a pretty similar price. The way they garnish is noticeably greener/more colorful than Sawan's, but not necessarily in a way that benefits the dish - lot of big uncooked chunks of scallion that, as much as I love scallions, were a little overpowering in certain bites. Their sauce is darker and more of a complex flavor than either of the other main Pad Thai options on the island, but again, not necessarily in a way that I prefer. Felt a little heavy and easy to get sick of. On the other hand, fond memories of their Seafood Yellow Curry. A little simple, with big chunks of carrot and potato, but tasty, decent serving size and works well for takeout. As other reviewers have noted, they will make your food very spicy if you want them to and they're usually pretty good about not accidentally going spicier than requested. While the differences between it and the other two Thai options on the island aren't so huge you could ever pick a clear winner (beyond personal preference,) I'm definitely still sticking to Sawan as my go-to for local Thai. If you aren't local, its inconvenient location, (current) lack of dine-in, and lack of bang for your buck would make me hesitant to recommend going out of your way for it. read more

I ordered 4 servings of steamed rice, 2 crispy parcels (so 16 total), sweet and sour chicken, island special yellow curry, drunken noodles, and one order of brown nice for a birthday lunch on April 9th, 2025. Ordered it for pick up. I tipped 24% too. Picked it up, got home, and there was just one order of crispy parcels and literally no steamed rice of any kind...just amazing really. But, unfortunately not that amazing as this happens somewhat frequently. I've lived on Bainbridge since before Sawatdy's existed, so I can attest for this. The food is good though, but just check your orders or it's quite possible they'll forget something, or tons of stuff in this instance. And yes, it was right there on the receipt what I ordered. We ordered beef sate and it was so salty. I'm Asian and even with rice, it was beyond salty, my tongue was numb. The BBQ Thai chicken was dry, the phad Thai was so sweet. While I have had generally good experiences at Sawatdy, the last one was hilariously bad. The Sawatdy Spicy Noodles (57a) is without a doubt the worst Thai dish I have ever had. It kind of seems like the trash repository for kitchen leftovers. For "Spicy noodles" there was zero spice. The sauce was a strange and mysterious gravy, and cold and congealed chunks (ordered take out) added to the mix of odd and unpleasant textures present throughout this dish. What it lacks in taste and texture it makes up for in size; this could feed a family of 4 easily. So even though it's bad, you get a lot of it! All that said, the Penang curry was decent, as was the pineapple curry (although it was mostly pineapple with a few scattered shrimp). I'm laughing about it now, but would not recommend the Sawatdy Noodles unless you really love spending island prices for inedible food. read more

Forgotten drinks and appetizers, appetizers coming out with main course. Brown lemon in the water. The pad Thai is good, the the boneless chicken wings are not boneless and super greasy, but that is probably how it is supposed to be. The Tom Ka Is good and the white rice was perfect. Both the beef and chicken satay were excellent. The bathroom was clean and I did didn't see anything scary peeping in the kitchen. The ambiance was good and decor was pretty. read more

Well. I can honestly say I order Sawatdy weekly. It is my weekly cheat meal (even thought it is tofu and spinach) V6- I look forward to their food because they offer vegetarian and vegan options and don't skimp with the portions. I also love their tofu pad thai , veggie spring rolls, and thai coconut soup with tofu. My boyfriend orders the beef pho level 3 spice and let's just say he is sweating but the good burn sweat. (he's a spice person- not so much myself) he has had a lot of pho and says this always hits the spot but he wishes the beef would be given raw and then you cook at home? i am not a meat eater so i don't understand but i guess it is a pho thing? I have never been disappointed with this place. the service is good and efficient but on a weekend night be prepared to wait a little- which is understandable. they do a great business and it shows with their parking lot almost always being filled with cars waiting for their food. read more

What a great first Thai food experience. We are from out of state and stopped by Sawatdy's based on a referral. First of all, our waiter Brett, was amazing. Sat us right away and answered all of our questions with a smile. He represents the restaurant very well. Second, the food was delicious. We didn't really know what to order so we told Brett what we liked and he made the choices for us. Portions are big and well worth the cost. I used to really like this restaurant but I just spent $100 on a meal for 5 (take away) and it was really not good. The Pham See Ew was super bland, the curry didn't come with any rice (which we figured out once we got home) and the tofu in all of the food was nearly dehydrated it was so dry. Even my kids didn't like any of it and they LOVE noodle dishes. Their menu offers so many delicious dishes, portions are large, prices are fair. It's a large restaurant, with a décor that gives a warm welcoming feel. We had the appetizer chicken stuffed chicken wing (delicious!), spring rolls, special fried rice (my apologies, I can't remember which one: the one w/ fresh jalapenos was spice & great, the one w/ the pineapple was bland, meh). The restaurant is located in a strip mall with an attached gas station in the middle of the nowhere. Last night was a dark, cold, and dreary evening which added another layer to the strangeness that followed. We were a party of 9, and were sat immediately upon entering. It was a farewell dinner as our friends visiting from abroad were leaving the next morning. I've been here infrequently, but It's been a few years since I've been back and had forgotten how Lynchinan this place is! The experience was a trip. I kept looking for characters from Twin Peaks to show up during our meal. I swear I saw Laura Palmer's mother eating at a nearby table. The lighting inside was rather dark. They have a wall/shrine of glowing Buddha statues taking center stage. It was both creepy and spiritual at the same time. The servers were professional, but slightly out of touch. I don't think our server ever understood that our guests visiting from Europe and didn't speak English... The food was good, and high marks for the clean tasting oil from the deep fryer. The spring rolls were devoured quickly. My husband and I ordered the yellow curry that had a tiny bit of heat to it, and the Eggplant dish with tofu. Both dishes were made vegan for us. Growing up on the Island, Sawatdy has a special place in my heart and I didn't know how great it really was until I moved away. But I have always loved this restaurant. It's kind of "sketchy" on the outside (not your typical BI restaurant aesthetic), but you're in for a treat when you walk in! I have tried so many Thai restaurants in Idaho, WA, and CA and not one is even comparable (except Sawan on BI) to Sawatdy. They have the best Thai food I've ever had, by far! Some favorites include the orange beef, pad thai, spring rolls, and crispy parcels. Large portions for family style and great lunch specials too. I somehow luck out and live within 5 miles of the best Thai restaurant in whatever city or town I live in. From Thai Dishes and Cholada in Malibu to about a dozen in Los Feliz and now this place...I am grateful the Thai gods look upon me with favor! This is now my favorite. Every dish feels and tastes and smells delicately prepared with love and care. I have yet to go wrong. Takeout is often very helpful and quick and dining in is a very lovely outing where you know you're in a restaurant but you feel the casual elegance of being in someone's home and having their family or personal chefs cook for you. I've made my peace with what Sawatdy is all about. The curries are fine, my kid likes the noodles, and there are few other options on Bainbridge. I know dinner for the family will cost $100 or more, but at least the big portions mean plenty of leftovers. I know that no matter the star level I request, sometimes it will be blazing hot and sometimes totally bland. I know that any salad dish will be 90 percent iceberg lettuce. I also know there are sometimes weeknights I don't want to cook and Sawatdy will be there. read more
