I was visiting Bainbridge for the day and have heard great things about Ba Sa so I was excited to come here for dinner. It was easy to join the waitlist for a reservation in person since they don't accept premade reservations on weekends. My friends and I weren't too hungry so we got the chili oil prawn noodle and beef pho to share. I liked the chewiness of the noodles and the shrimp was tasty even though the bok choy was a bit bitter for my taste. The pho was my favorite between the two dishes. The flavor was great (and I have high standards for pho) and there was a good amount of beef and noodles in there. I enjoyed dipping the Chinese donut in the pho even though I'm used to having it with congee. Overall it was a great experience with great food. Was in Bainbridge looking to try something different and stumbled on this place while looking for Asian cuisine. Walked in and waited about 10 minutes to get seated -- not bad at all. Service was pretty good, nothing exceptional. The shrimp and pork truffle dumplings were decent but a little light on flavor in the dumpling itself -- the sauce saved it and was quite good. The chicken ban mì and the Vietnamese noodle dish with grilled pork and spring rolls were the highlights though, both enjoyable. You can tell they're going for a modern take on Vietnamese cuisine, and for the most part it works. Is it the best Vietnamese food I've had? No. But it's a solid and interesting interpretation. You know a place is good when it's busy and requires a wait list at all times of day, including 2:30pm on a Friday. We finally got back to Bainbridge yesterday, after a few years of being too busy to make it work. During this time I haven't stopped thinking about Ba Sa and have even tried to scratch the itch by going to their sister restaurant, Ramie in Seattle and while it's good, it's not the same flavors or style as Ba Sa. I'm so glad that I got to introduce my husband and kids to Ba Sa and they loved it as much as I do! Everything was delicious, here's what we ordered: Truffle dumplings: so good, chili sauce was just a tickle and perfect Sweet soy glazed wings - we fought over these! Perfect sticky glaze with good crunch as well Dry aged beef pho - this is probably some of the best pho I've had in Seattle. The broth was luscious and packed with favor without being greasy. Noodles were perfectly cooked and beef was delicious! Fried noodles with tempura shrimp - also so good and the noodles were perfectly cooked. Shrimp were large, well fried and coated with delicious sauce Pork banh mi - spicy but really balanced and good flavor. The bun was a little big and hard to eat but the quality and taste was there I'm so glad it was as delicious as I remembered and can't wait to come back. We sat on the patio and it was a perfect day. I think this place is good for Asian food, but as a Vietnamese restaurant? I think the flavors lean more towards modern. Truffle chili wontons - skin was too thick for my preference and not a lot of filling. They were like mini wontons. The sauce was interesting though, the combination of truffle and chili oil was something that I had enjoyed. I wish I saved the sauce for some other dishes Chili oil noodle with prawn - noodles needed more sauce!! They were a bit dry and I could not really taste the chili oil. Needs more flavor for sure Duck leg confit - this dish tasted so Vietnamese to me? The sauce they put on the duck was reminiscent of something my mom would make. I enjoyed this dish the most. I really liked the way that the sauce from the duck mixed with the rice. Came here after a day trip in Bainbridge and it hit the spot! The food was very flavorful and filling. The pasta was my favorite as the short ribs were tender and tasty! The truffle wontons were juicy and had a good amount of filling. The prawns on the chili oil prawn noodles were really crispy, and the hot honey glazed ribs were yummy but not as tender as it could be. Overall excellent viet fusion food!! Among a few other spots, Ba Sa was on our hit list to check out, so we came by for lunch. Its a nice looking modern Vietnamese restaurant with a fusion-y spin on Viet food. We didn't know what to order so we looked at a bunch of photos to see what looked good. We started off with the Chicken Buns. It was really good karage chicken bao buns, very flavorful, nicely prepared and the mayo was tasty! We really enjoyed this to start off our meal. As for our entrees, we got: Bun Cha Hanoi: Good amount of meats, I really liked this, comes with 2 pork patties, 2 grilled pork skewers, an egg roll, noodles to dip in the nuoc cham sauce with lettuce to make some wraps. I went to town on this! Sautee Beef Vermicelli: I got some bites to this dish as well, beef was plenty, quite flavorful stir fried beef, good marinade on the beef, comes with vermicelli noodles with some assorted veggies and crispy bits on top. A good non soup beef noodle dish! We came at a good time, we got seated pretty quickly, friendly staff, it is on the pricier side but we enjoyed the food a lot. On a day trip to Baybridge island, my friends and I decided to try this trending restaurant, and it was worth the hype! Everything we ordered was packed with flavor and well executed in this fusion restaurant. The spicy truffle wontons with grilled shrimp were a standout! They were super aromatic with the truffle flavor coming through, and the shrimp added a nice extra layer of texture and richness. The wontons were not quite spicy, however. We also tried thier chili prawn noodles, which had egg noodles and was just as good. The tempura shrimp was also crunchy and added to the great mix of textures. Haven't been here in a while, but I brought my family this time and they are fans! Everything was just as good as my last visit, though I personally wasn't a big fan of the Bun Cha Hanoi. Location is convenient as it was right in the midst of all the other restaurants and shops in the main area, and walking distance to the ferry terminal. I found myself back on Bainbridge Island visiting family and this was my second time at Ba Sa. In my opinion, it may be one the best restaurants on the island. They were busy on a Friday night and our server was really kind. He was attentive despite the business. Ba Sa isn't a huge restaurant; however, the inside is cozy and offers a high-end feel. They offer outdoor seating as well, but I recommend sitting inside. The food always hits. Delicious, perfectly flavored and fresh. We got the Chicken Karaage Bao Buns and I could've eaten these for my meal alone. The chicken was juicy and the cabbage and pickled onions offered a nice zest. The pho was rich and perfect for a cold night, the beef was tender and the broth was very tasty. The prawns and noodles are always a good go-to. The food was good! I ordered the tofu with veggies spring rolls. Best spring rolls I've had in a long time! I love the peanut sauce - the consistency was just right. It was a little thick but not too thick and flavor wasn't overly sweet. It was just right! I was disappointed that they didn't serve brown rice with their food, or some other whole grain option other than serving white rice. I'm borderline diabetic and can't eat white rice. I didn't like that they charged an additional price when I substituted the rice with noodles. I ordered the garlic vegetable dish - you can choose broccoli bok choy or green beans. I selected broccoli and green beans. While the vegetables were very fresh I was disappointed in the sauce. The sauce would have been much better had it not been so salty. Ba Sa offers upscale Vietnamese dining on Bainbridge. It has indoor and outdoor seating. At almost 2pm on a late September Sunday, the wait time was only about 5 minutes. That said, they offer a reservation waitlist bookable on Yelp. What we ordered: 1. Garlic green veggies. Mom was looking for a gluten-limited item. They can make this completely gluten free, but the chicken she wanted added was marinated in a sauce with trace amounts of gluten. She also got half green beans, half broccoli. It also comes with a side of rice. Though the base price is $19 without protein, and most protein add ons were $8, adding chicken (unlisted) took it to $31. On the plus side, it had a very complex and delicious sauce... definitely a fish sauce and something sweet (unsure if hoisin, oyster or if they merely added brown sugar). 2. Broth and noodles in oxtail broth. I wanted some basic broth without all the proteins, and this did it for me! I have to say when it first came, the noodles on the top tasted fairly bland. I should have let it sit for an extra three to five minutes to soak in more broth. The broth was very flavorful, star anise prominent and maybe the slightest hint of cinnamon. 3. Jasmine tea. Came served in a proper cast iron pot, which I loved. These people clearly understand tea done the right way. (And I did not taste remnants of coffee, so there's no cross mixing of drinking vessels.) They had these little fly fans to help for those eating outdoors on the patio. Food containers to go were the basic brown boxes. I wished they had given us a bag to take the leftovers... We came here to celebrate birthdays but as other reviewers mentioned, they did nothing even though I mentioned there were two birthdays celebration that night. If this small detail was added, even a free scoop of ice cream, a small slice of cake, or macaron on a plate that says Happy Birthday would then earn my 5 stars. When I asked the waiter if they got anything special, he mentioned the bread pudding and they can add a free candle. That's about it. They did not automatically add the tips for the table even though we have a party of 5 people. Side note: the menu was really hard to read because it was getting dark in the restaurant. I ordered an appetizer which has fried chicken in a bun like used for Peking Duck. It was tasty but very hard to bite the chicken as it was overcooked. My son had a pork dish that didn't have much pork, but a lot of rice a over hard egg and some red onions. I will give it a five on service and atmosphere, but I would give it about a three on food.
