On a day trip to Baybridge island, my friends and I decided to try this trending restaurant, and it was worth the hype! Everything we ordered was packed with flavor and well executed in this fusion restaurant. The spicy truffle wontons with grilled shrimp were a standout! They were super aromatic with the truffle flavor coming through, and the shrimp added a nice extra layer of texture and richness. The wontons were not quite spicy, however. We also tried thier chili prawn noodles, which had egg noodles and was just as good. The tempura shrimp was also crunchy and added to the great mix of textures. We were visiting Bainbridge Island for the day and while in town going to parks, walking around, retail etc, we worked up an appetite for lunch. Among a few other spots, Ba Sa was on our hit list to check out, so we came by for lunch. Its a nice looking modern Vietnamese restaurant with a fusion-y spin on Viet food. We didn't know what to order so we looked at a bunch of photos to see what looked good. We started off with the Chicken Buns. It was really good karage chicken bao buns, very flavorful, nicely prepared and the mayo was tasty! We really enjoyed this to start off our meal. As for our entrees, we got: Bun Cha Hanoi: Good amount of meats, I really liked this, comes with 2 pork patties, 2 grilled pork skewers, an egg roll, noodles to dip in the nuoc cham sauce with lettuce to make some wraps. I went to town on this! Sautee Beef Vermicelli: I got some bites to this dish as well, beef was plenty, quite flavorful stir fried beef, good marinade on the beef, comes with vermicelli noodles with some assorted veggies and crispy bits on top. A good non soup beef noodle dish! We came at a good time, we got seated pretty quickly, friendly staff, it is on the pricier side but we enjoyed the food a lot. Had a really yummy meal here with great service, really nice outdoor seating and delish food! We came pretty soon after they opened and were able to sit immediately in the patio area. I will say we walked by later and it was VERY busy so I would expect a wait later in the day but I did see they have a waitlist you can join online. We had the broccoli tofu stir fry dish (oyster sauce , hoisin, garlic, etc) and then the pho. Both reallllly delish and flavorful! The pho was hearty and rly good. Great food with a fresh spin on Vietnamese classics. We did a day trip from Seattle to Bainbridge, and after walking around town we ended up grabbing dinner at Ba Sa. Location is convenient as it was right in the midst of all the other restaurants and shops in the main area, and walking distance to the ferry terminal. We tried the bao bun appetizer that was filled with tasty karaage chicken and had the pho. The beef in the pho was very flavorful and the broth was delicious as well. I also like how they did not skimp on the beef. Overall good food in a quaint atmosphere, I only wish the line and the wait for a table was not as long. What an incredible restaurant!! I was seeing Ba Sa all over my Tiktok page and I knew I just had to go, right up my alley! I found myself back on Bainbridge Island visiting family and this was my second time at Ba Sa. In my opinion, it may be one the best restaurants on the island. They were busy on a Friday night and our server was really kind. He was attentive despite the business. Ba Sa isn't a huge restaurant; however, the inside is cozy and offers a high-end feel. They offer outdoor seating as well, but I recommend sitting inside. The food always hits. Delicious, perfectly flavored and fresh. We got the Chicken Karaage Bao Buns and I could've eaten these for my meal alone. The chicken was juicy and the cabbage and pickled onions offered a nice zest. The pho was rich and perfect for a cold night, the beef was tender and the broth was very tasty. The prawns and noodles are always a good go-to. Ba Sa offers upscale Vietnamese dining on Bainbridge. It has indoor and outdoor seating. At almost 2pm on a late September Sunday, the wait time was only about 5 minutes. That said, they offer a reservation waitlist bookable on Yelp. What we ordered: 1. Garlic green veggies. Mom was looking for a gluten-limited item. They can make this completely gluten free, but the chicken she wanted added was marinated in a sauce with trace amounts of gluten. She also got half green beans, half broccoli. It also comes with a side of rice. Though the base price is $19 without protein, and most protein add ons were $8, adding chicken (unlisted) took it to $31. On the plus side, it had a very complex and delicious sauce... definitely a fish sauce and something sweet (unsure if hoisin, oyster or if they merely added brown sugar). 2. Broth and noodles in oxtail broth. I wanted some basic broth without all the proteins, and this did it for me! I have to say when it first came, the noodles on the top tasted fairly bland. I should have let it sit for an extra three to five minutes to soak in more broth. The broth was very flavorful, star anise prominent and maybe the slightest hint of cinnamon. 3. Jasmine tea. Came served in a proper cast iron pot, which I loved. These people clearly understand tea done the right way. (And I did not taste remnants of coffee, so there's no cross mixing of drinking vessels.) They had these little fly fans to help for those eating outdoors on the patio. Food containers to go were the basic brown boxes. I wished they had given us a bag to take the leftovers... But overall the entire meal was pleasant and delicious. The waiter checked on us twice to refill water. We came for dinner so the temperature was just right sitting inside. I wish their dessert menu has some kind of cake. We came here to celebrate birthdays but as other reviewers mentioned, they did nothing even though I mentioned there were two birthdays celebration that night. If this small detail was added, even a free scoop of ice cream, a small slice of cake, or macaron on a plate that says Happy Birthday would then earn my 5 stars. When I asked the waiter if they got anything special, he mentioned the bread pudding and they can add a free candle. That's about it. They did not automatically add the tips for the table even though we have a party of 5 people. Side note: the menu was really hard to read because it was getting dark in the restaurant. I don't usually write reviews like this, but my experience here honestly left me really uncomfortable. When my friend and I were seated, things started off okay. But after we placed our order, there was little to no service. Our food took a while to come out, and we didn't receive any updates or check ins during the wait. After that, our server only came back to give us the bill nothing in between. What made the experience bad was noticing how different the service was for other tables. Other customers were being greeted warmly, checked on frequently, and given refills almost immediately. Meanwhile, we didn't receive a single refill the entire time, and there was little to no interaction with our server. It felt very one sided and pretty uncomfortable. As two Asian women dining at an ASIAN restaurant, it was confusing and upsetting to feel this way. After reading other reviews, I realized we're not the only ones who have had this kind of experience here, which is even more concerning. The restaurant itself wasn't even busy! There were plenty of open tables and staff standing around, so it didn't seem like a matter of being overwhelmed. It just felt like we were overlooked. I also work in food service, so I understand how important tipping is. But this was the first time I genuinely questioned whether to tip at all, because it we didn't receive any real service. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 is because the food itself was actually good. Unfortunately, the service made us feel unwelcome and small the entire time, which overshadowed everything else. Honestly, I did NOT have high hopes for this spot. It was already strange enough that there were two Vietnamese restaurants right across the street from each other on a small, touristy island where the Viet populace would be hide-and-seek champions. Plus, I've often been disappointed by restaurants peddling upscale Viet-fusion fare (looking at you, Little Sister). So to say I was less than enthused would be an understatement. But we were on a time crunch, so we opted for the closest and tastiest-sounding option, which was Ba Sa. And I'm happy to say we made the right decision. The menu was simple and offered a respectable variety of Viet-inspired dishes, with a few clearly trying their best to be authentic, such as the bún chả and bún thịt nướng, while other options attempted to be bougie renditions of humble staples, like bánh mì (that had variations with karaage or short rib) and phở with dry-aged ribeye. I'm only slightly ashamed to say we ordered the latter. My aunt tried the karaage bánh mì, while my uncle went with the grilled pork version. Between the two, the grilled pork was the clear winner, though my aunt did appreciate the karaage. Also, the bánh mì had pickled red onions for some reason, but I suppose that's Ba Sa's way of elevating the sandwich. And I got the phở. I was disappointed that it didn't come with basil and the other veggies on a plate, but they did at least throw a handful of bean sprouts in the bowl, hella green onions, and a lime wedge on the side, so that was nice. The Chinese doughnut accompaniment was tasty, too. While the broth did have the usual deep, beefy flavor you'd expect, it was intensely oily as well, which was slightly off-putting. But I still enjoyed my noodle soup regardless. As for the service, it was rather slow, but as with many restaurants these days, they seemed understaffed. Also, we sat on the patio on a balmy day in early fall, and flies were abundant. I wish they had fans or something to ward away the flies, which were numerous and ravenous. But it's also possible Ba Sa was trying to replicate the authentic experience of dining outdoors in Vietnam. read more

After the appetizer the service was extremely slow, about 25minutes between appetizer and entree. I got the short rib stir fry turmeric noodles. the turmeric noodles for this dish were exquisite. beautiful chew and good flavor although a little salty. the gai lan was a good touch to the dish adding a bit of freshness to it. my main gripe with this dish was the meat which was again way too sweet, an issue common in both dishes. for the price I wouldn't say that this place was worth it. it's definitely on the pricier side and I felt like the cost couldn't be justified by the food we had. read more
