My family and I ordered the mixed seafood grill family platter that costs $115, which is meant to feed 5 people (it definitely fed all 5 of us). This dish includes 2 amazing appetizers (hummus and babaganoush) as well as grilled and fried fish on a HUGE bed of spicy biryani rice. on top is a pineapple adorned with shrimp skewers and warm fresh naan/pita on the side. This restaurant and family platters are great to eat with big groups as the portions are good and the food is fresh and delicious. I'm pretty sure all of their seafood is fresh and not frozen and if you like your meats cooked on wood fore for that smoky flavor then this is the place for you! This restaurant appears to be more upscale and "boujee" but their prices are similar to other Mediterranean restaurants in the area. My parents and I had been wanting to go to Sayad ever since I can ever remember but we always ended up going to Fadi's or Dimassi's but last night we finally decided that we have to break the cycle and try something different especially since I have been reading so many amazing five star reviews but it really didn't blow me away. Upon arrival we were greeted and promptly seated in the front area. Now one would think that since you are sitting in the front this would be a good idea but unfortunately this was the worst place you could be seated. They have a big counter/sushi bar area type set up in the front where you see a whole bunch of ice in the front and they are constantly making smoothies so the blender never stops. This was a total nuisance because the music was super loud and with the blender never stopping it was really hard to just even hear your own thoughts. Service was fine. We ordered the falafel for starters and they were great. The sauce was not watery and the bed of greens it was served on was flavored well with an oil based dressing and sumac. And then the food came ... The food was enormous platters of meat that was cooked to perfection but the rice ... The rice was swimming in a pool of oil. This is just absolutely inexcusable no matter what kind of food you are eating. After this I could not eat the remaining of my food. At this point we asked for to go boxes and packed our food. Will I return: Yes. But will ask for something else other than what they state in their menu to be "beryani rice" ... that -ish can go eat itself. read more

Living on westheimer and loving Mediterranean food, i have a tendency to compare and try every Med. place in the area The chicken Shawarma hummus was pretty darn good. Great combo! We ordered the beef and chicken kabob plates that came with rice. Don't get me wrong, it was pretty good. But... i still have yet to find a Mediterranean restaurant that can beat Al-aseels's kabobs and mint lemon tea...... The tea had this powdery, sugary, watery taste.. Well this veggie gal loves some Mediterranean food, so I was super keen to see a new one in the area. We thought we'd drop in one night and let someone else cook us dinner. It's a very open building and clean. We were seated without delay and our drink orders were taken. As we reviewed the menu, I swiftly noted that we would only be ordering off the salad and appetizer sections, as there were no veggie entrees on the menu (this is a negative for me, but tons of yummy looking meat items were on it if that's your thing). It took quite a while for the server to come back and take our orders. We ended up trying the veggie sampler, cheese arayes, fattoush, and Greek salads. The salads were crisp, bright, and very flavorsome with the tart dressing. I really did take pleasure in them. The cheese arayes were nice and salty too! The veggie sampler was OK, but nothing to sing praises about, however the homemade pita was delish!! Decided to try out this Mediterranean place with high school friends. I arrived into the place and we got seated quickly. We were kind of surprised since it was a Friday night. Once we got seated I ordered the mango smoothie and my friend ordered the mint tea drink; we also got the tatta fratta as an appetizer. We didn't have to wait long for the food. The mango smoothie was okay, nothing spectacular. The minty drink was a better option and if I could go back I would have ordered that. The tatta frata was good and they also gave a large baked bread and a dipping sauce. For main I ordered the chicken shawarma with a side of fries. The fries were nice and crispy but the chicken shawarma wasn't anything amazing. It looked like a simple item. My friend got the chicken shish tawook with rice and that was awesome! I had never had Mediterranean food, our expectations wasn't the highest but we came out loving everything we ate! The service was great, very attentive and super nice. If your going with your family you can't go wrong with the family platter which feeds 5 people. i really enjoy reserving the royal room which is private and ordering family platters. Even though you will certainly have some left over I think a family platter or two or three or four will do good by you. No one at the party will be disappointed and there will be plenty to go around. The family platter comes with fresh pita bread baskets, hummus, baba ghanouch, zaatar dip as appetizers. The platter is basically an assortment of meats on top of a bed of rice and thin pita bread. For a party of 30 I think four platters is good. I ordered four for a party of twenty and had a heavy left over bag. Don't worry they will have a dedicated waiter or waitress to assist in serving and cleaning up as well as packaging your leftovers neatly into boxes. They have some magnificent drinks you can order such as mango or lime and mint. They are both so good and can be very refreshing when you experience that Htown heat. For dessert I hear they have some of the best Kinafa. If not some other Kinafa spots will be found in my other reviews. The owner has always come out and checked on us to make sure we are good and everything was to our satisfaction. My guests are always complimenting my choice of venues for large groups and this is one of my faves and go to spots. I really don't care to share how much I spent on my last visit but I made sure to make it memorable for those who deserved the treat. Sayad MG did not disappoint. We came here on a recommendation from close middleastern friends. The place is very accommodating and has diversity of seating arrangement that is perfect for large family gatherings, medium sized parties, or dates. At the entrance you are greeted by the host and a huge display of fishes and food being offered. The night we came we were basically the only ones there. It is very nicely decorated, it looks like a high end lounge. The house bread accompanied by the Zatar was amazing! I could eat a few baskets of that. It felt like it was freshly baked, so light and fluffy. We ordered sujuk and cheese as our appetizer. They were really good. They were filled with a hearty amount of lamb and syrian cheese. As our entrees we ordered lamb chops and 3 quail plate. The lamb chop plate included rice, roasted tomato, and onions. They were nicely seasoned and very crunchy on the edges. The rice was really good and grainy as well. The 3 quail plate was delicious. The hens were nicely marinated and had heat to them. My review is based off the dinner buffet and the experience we had. The lentil soup was disgusting. It had no flavor. To be fair though, the rest of the food was pretty good. We had rice and meat and there was also pasta, as well as chicken and rice. There were about 5 different dishes in the dinner buffet. However, there was only one dessert to chose from. How can there be a buffet with 1 dessert option? It just doesn't make sense to me. I also didn't appreciate being nickle and dimed. The prices were not transparent. I knew the dinner buffet was around $30, however I didn't realize that didn't include drinks nor tea. I also didn't realize they had only one dessert. We were charged $2 for each tea and I know we were also charged for the other drinks. We also ordered kunafa, which was $6.50 each which was fine. Although there should have been more desserts offered, not just one dessert, so we paid nearly $30 for just 4 pieces of Kunafa. The worst part is that when we wanted to take the Kunafa to go, they gave us a hard time. We asked 3 different people for to go containers. As far as the service charge, that was automatically added on and it was almost $30 as well. Our total bill was around $225. It just doesn't sit right with me when restaurants take advantage so I will definitely not be going back there again. read more

This review is for the service only! The food was decent. My grandfather came to Houston from abroad (for the medical Center) which means he wasn't well. So I decided to treat him for some middle eastern food. The staff is incredibly rude including the manager! Waitress wasn't very attentive. Got us the wrong orders. But the worst part was the BILL! They changed me $11 tip ( without me approving it) really? $11 for a service?! For two people?! The manager called me a "cheap a-hole" and that wait staff works for tips. He went on and on about them having bills and rent to pay.... I told him, oh yeah?! Why don't YOU pay them a salary then? Since you know their financial situation! They're very lucky that my grandfather only spoke Japanese, otherwise he would have schooled them in restaurant management. Double check your bill before paying. BTW: I wanna make one thing clear. For a Halal Mediterranean restaurant, Dated Grill did not disappoint. There is plenty of parking, the restaurant itself is very chic and open. The staff was very friendly and very kind. The menu itself is pretty diverse and should cater to most tastes. The only drawback for me was the lackadaisical style of management that seems pretty rampant in Mediterranean and Indian restaurants. The food itself was the real star though. The naan was straight up Heaven. I could just eat that everyday for the rest of my life and probably be happy. I had fried calamari to start with and it was just okay. Then came the beef kabob entree and it was Delicious XD. My friend had the shrimp tempura and quite enjoyed it too. The amount of food was substantial, we both had more than enough for lunch the next day. What really made me want to return was the attitude of our waitress. She saw I was in some distress due to my medical issues and brought me some mint and lemon water to help soothe my stomach. Incredibly sweet individual. Wow, Sayad blew me away! I came here for lunch with my colleagues based on my boss' rave recommendation. Since half of my company traveled to Dubai in October, we've all developed a collective appreciation for Mediterranean / Middle East region cuisine. The menu is definitley lebenese-heavy with the traditional fixings (shawarma, baba ghanouj, kebab skrewers, hummus etc). I ordered the lunch chicken shawarma platter which comes with biryani rice, pita bread (THE MOST DELICIOUS FRESH BREAD EVER) and 1 side. I tend to like my shawarma very onion-heavy, and there were only a few slices. The chicken, however, was very tender and flavorful. I opted for the hummus as my side, and MAN, I wish I took pictures to completely capture how delicious this hummus was. (I just didn't want to be *that* person at the business lunch, ya know?) This was definitely some of the best hummus I've ever had the privilege to eat. I also ordered the fresh lemonade with mint. It's thicker than traditional american lemonade because it's fresh squeezed, thick and very pulp-ey -- but delicious! Our service was amazing, and the owner (I'm guessing?) stopped by to chat. He even offered us complimentary desert after we closed our tabs. I really appreciated the hospitality! Sayad was very clean with beautiful ambience. We stopped in this place because we were in the city from the 'burbs and hungry after going to the market. The four stars are for the food. The veggie platter had a lot of food on it and everything was piping hot fresh. The bread that we ordered was incredible. I can't remember the meat item but everything was delicious. The service is Mediterranean paced (relaxed not fast). and the server was friendly. Don't not get the family platter!! It has no meat and is a huge rip off for $95.00! You're better off ordering individual platter of mix grill! You'll be guarantee everything on the menu if you get individual platters! They'll keep forcing you to get the family platter which is a total scam! There's literally only enough meat for 1-2 people on there! All they do is give you a lot more rice and two sides. You're better off getting your own two sides! There was literally no meat on our family platter. We told the waiter and he was rude about it. And kept telling us there's meat when clearly there wasn't! Smh!
