I ultimately ordered the Sautéed Garlic Shrimp with butternut squash risotto. The presentation was beautiful and the flavors were rich and creamy. Also, Eddie kept my water glass filled and made me feel special and welcomed. The ambiance at the Fountain Lounge is classic luxury. Plus, the staff is always on point. They even remembered my special occasion when I last dined there. Plus, the team was attentive and quite friendly. My only complaint is that the piano is no longer there. Apparently, the powers that be decided to remove the soul of the restaurant. In the days of old, a pianist played sets during dinner. Not only did it make guests truly appreciate the musical style of New Orleans, but the melodic music also drew others into the restaurant. What a shame to have lost the heart and soul of the restaurant. Yet, the staff does their best to create a warm and welcoming environment, while the chefs provide truly top notch cuisine. We needed a break from the heat and decided to stop by the Roosevelt Hotel. We wanted to stay for a while, so we went to the bar, which is right off the lobby, and got a drink. It is very dim lighting with bar seating, couch seating, and table seating with table lamps. It is a pretty big space with lots of walking room. We ordered at the bar because at 1:30, they didn't do table service. We got a glass of Prosecco and a Hugo spritz. It was so refreshing and just what we needed. Service was quick. My wife and I were staying at the Roosevelt Hotel, and found this bar. Unbeknownst to me, this is one of the most famous bars in N.O., and they also make some of the best drinks! Naturally, I got a Sazerac, and it was the best one I've ever had. My wife got a gin fizz, which was also delicious. I'm sure I'm not the first person to say this, but this bar reminds me of the one in the Overlook Hotel in the movie "The Shining", what with its Art Deco styling and ambiance. You bet that if I'm in New Orleans I'm going to go to a bar named The Sazerac Bar. It's located off Canal Street in The Roosevelt Hotel and used to be called The Main Bar. The hotel actually purchased the rights from The Sazerac Company to use its name for their bar which was a cool tidbit. When you walk in you see a bunch of lounge seating on the left and a long bar top on the right. They do not have reservations. My first drink was of course the sazerac ($20) which was stiff and strong but delicious and what you'd expect from the sazerac. My second drink was the ramos gin fizz ($24) which seemed like a steep price but you'll know why when you see the bartender spending a couple minutes alone just shaking your drink. When the bartender poured the drink, it stood up straight as it came out above the top of the glass which was a beautiful sight. It was worth the wait because it was probably the best ramos gin fizz I've had and the most accurate-looking one I've seen. It was creamy from the milk and tart from the citrus; it was very easy to drink. It was a very relaxing and intimate setting and made for a great time. Even if you're not staying at the hotel, you can still feel like a million bucks if you make a stop here. read more

4++ a really cool historic bar located around the French Quarter in New Orleans. It's located in the Roosevelt, so you know this is a pretty classy place or at least that's how it felt like to me. The bartenders are dressed up, so feels like you are having a drink during a different era. I was trying to do some research on what drinks or cocktails I should get before visiting the area. One drink that appealed to me that came up was the Ramon Gin Fizz. I thought that would be the perfect bar to get it. I was not wrong. We came here as one of the spots during my brother's bachelor party in New Orleans. And we all agreed that they should be a place that we definitely had to hit up. Our first trip to New Orleans so we of course had to have a classic Sazerac and what better spot than at the classic Sazerac bar where women were first able to drink any time? This spot cam recommended by a friend, and we were lucky to swing in on a Monday when they weren't very busy, so we could sit at the gorgeous bar and appreciate the classic dark bar. The drinks are very pricey, even for New Orleans, with most starting at $20. I did get a Sazerac and while it was okay, I felt others I've had in the area had much better flavor and were less expensive. We also got a classic Gin Fizz, which had a beautiful presentation with the foam out of the glass, but it did have a bland flavor at first to me but got better as we sipped through. Sazerac Bar is a beautiful watering hole tucked in the Roosevelt Hotel just off Canal. The low lighting, plush seating, bow-tied bartenders, and impossible-to-ignore Art Deco murals all lend to a high-class feel that made me feel like I should be dressed a little better. But the code is pretty casual despite all the appointments. The bar is also fairly busy. Despite the larger room, much of the crowd ended up standing due to all the booths being occupied. We were able to grab a couple of comfortable stools right at the bar, our favorite spot, to watch the drinks being made. This is especially a prime spot here as the bartenders really know what they're doing with classic drinks that are part of the experience. One of the only places you can get a quality gin fizz in the city. They look like they're enjoying their work as well! Pro tip: if you do get a bar seat, you may have to protect your space. Everyone orders at the bar, so if you decide to be generous and offer to let someone order to your side, you've just created the queue for everyone to order to your side. Drinks here can be a little pricey, but not exorbitant. Additionally, and I have this complaint about the city in general, drinks are too sweet. Sazerac Bar is located inside the Roosevelt Hotel. This is a nice, cozy bar that you need to go and get their great drinks. This bar is always crowded so go and wait for a place to sit inside the bar or grab some drinks and sit in the lobby of the hotel like we did. The bartenders here get VERY busy but they are some of the nicest people. And they are so talented, as they look like artists when they make the drinks. This is not only a bar, it is a museum experience. Everyone is so kind. They offer distillery tours for a price, as well as a tasting/ self paced museum tour for free. I suggest getting a reservation, just to guarantee a position. So many photo ops. You get to sample atleast three/four mini cocktails as you make your way around museum. One was old fashion like, another was coffee based with pumpkin, the third was inspired by an amaretto sour but I'm sure these change over time. There's a lot to learn, We spent maybe an 45 minutes to an hour. It's on the strip. Usually make it here a few times a year. Without fail though I will have 1 to 10 drinks when I pass through to take a few pictures of the Roosevelt lobby for Christmas. They make the best sazeracs in the city. They have many other specialty cocktails and I haven't disliked one yet. They have seasonal cocktails as well. If you're into cocktails, then I definitely recommend stopping by the Sazerac Bar in the Roosevelt Hotel to grab a drink. There's a lot of history here, as my friend was telling me. TIP: Make sure you don't go into the Roosevelt Hotel Bar, which is accessible from the sidewalk, as it's more low key and divey. Sazerac Bar is INSIDE the hotel itself, maybe halfway down the hallway from the hotel entrance on the right. My friend and I spent a couple minutes in the wrong place, until we were able to get ahold of the bartender and she kindly let us know we were in the wrong spot Once we actually made it to Sazerac Bar, it was already 11:30 pm on a Wednesday night. Vibes are upscale, with most of the clientele dressed in suits. They closed at midnight that day, so we quickly put in our orders of the Ramos Gin Fizz ($23). This was definitely one of the most expensive cocktails I've ever had, but we both really enjoyed it. Right off the bat when you see the bartender shaking the shaker for a while, you know it's going to be good. I loved watching her pour it so that the foam rises a good 1-1.5 inch above the top of the glass! Flavor wise, it's a light drink on the sweeter side, so it was right up my alley in terms of cocktails. I kept thinking it tasted a bit like the yogurt drinks I had growing up, as the taste was very familiar to me. Called Sazerac Bar, no surprises there, this classy establishment is inside a hotel. We stopped by and sat at the bar before moving to some lounge seats that were close to the only TV in the bar. The Astros playoff game was going on so I didn't want to miss that. Service was friendly and I loved the ambiance at the bar. It's a classy establishment and one with a historical presence. The hotel itself is super nice too. The bar is classic wood paneled and since it is a hotel lobby bar, you have people in all manners of dress from travel wear to evening gowns. In a city where you can regularly get very good cocktails for $12-$14, a bar that charges $20+ for a single cocktail had better serve up a phenomenal drinking experience, no matter how iconic or immersive the 30s era environs. I just didn't think the cocktails were that good relative to other cocktails I've had at the same (overtly ridiculous) price point. I started with a sazerac, of course, which is one of my favorite cocktails ever and one that I have ordered in many cities, but NoLa being its birthplace and the bar being named Sazerac, I expected this to be mindblowing. It wasn't. It tasted like a whiskey on the rocks. No hint of anise, no touch of sweetness from the sugar cube. So then I got a second cocktail - I can't remember which one it was that unmemorable, I think it was their answer to an espresso martini - and same issue. It was all spirit and ice. And I like spirit forward drinks but...it's not a cocktail if that's all you can taste. I have had much more complex and well rounded espresso martinis. I sampled my friend's cocktails and it was more of the same. Our cocktail waitress was lovely and the space itself was cool AF, so it still gets 3 stars. You're basically paying for the real estate. If you decide to go I recommend ordering one very simple drink and nursing it. read more

Elegant, this is the perfect word to describe The Sazerac Bar. Inside the Roosevelt Hotel, you walk in and immediately breath in the refined atmosphere. They obviously serve the drink that names the bar, which also is one of the signature drinks in NoLa. Whiskey based and really strong, but also very classy looking. It seems like people stop in to get a cocktail, take selfies, take up room, be loud, and annoying, then move on. I guess the hotel must encourage it. However, if you are looking for a more couth experience, look elsewhere. Sidecar was decent, but nothing exceptional for $18. The wine was fabulous. Oysters were delicious. Salad was ok. Duck was overcooked without a crispy skin. Crème brûlée was noteworthy. Further, I noticed the bill was significantly higher than it should've been (pre-tip; post-tax). But since I'm not a fan of Gin - I ordered the "Christmas Cookie" and just took a sip of the Ramos Gin Fizz. Ramos Gin Fizz - OMG!! Definitely a MUST GET item. In the event that you don't know, the drink that is widely considered to be the first cocktail ever invented, is now the name of this bar which is THE place to get it. The decor is interesting, kinda old-school classy realness. The bartenders are in shirt, tie, and vest. It's located inside the Roosevelt Hotel. The sazerac itself (sazerac cognac, absinthe, peychaud's bitters, and sugar) is gross to me personally but I'm like a toddler when it comes to my alcoholic beverages and prefer to drink candy and milkshakes. My GF who has a more sophisticated alcohol palate enjoyed it. I, on the other hand, tried the ramos gin fizz which is another famous New Orleans cocktail with gin, lemon juice, lime juice, egg white, sugar, cream, orange flower water, and club soda. It was invented at another place but popularized by THIS bar. It's not cheap ($23 if memory serves) but it's INCREDIBLE. Easily one of the BEST drinks I've ever had. It also looks funny because the foam rises above the rim of the glass. I appreciate the little things. I've walked into and past the Roosevelt many times, and if you go in during the Christmas season or before/after the Krewe of Jingle parade, the decorations are always breathtaking and you'll just stand there with all the tourists in awe of the beauty of this location. But when you go in the front door, just over halfway down on the left is the historic Sazarac bar. I think I first learned about the bar on a podcast discussing Huey P. Long and his politicking that would happen there, and as I love a great sazarac, how could I not ever go to such a place? I had a group of girlfriends in town with me and I wanted us to "splurge" in such a great location. We hit up some of the great beverages: Sazarac, Ramos Gin Fizz, Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, and The Champage Lady. And then we did what all good friends do -- we passed our drinks around to each other so we could taste them all. Not a complaint among them! Because there are so many steps to making all of these drinks, it took a while to receive our drinks, and there was only one bartender, so the service was quite slow for the drinks as well as to pay the bill. We weren't in a huge hurry, but we started out as the only ones in the bar, so come in with patience and make the time to enjoy.
