I came here for lunch today. I mistakenly saw $9.99 for a burger and beer. (It was $12- that was my fault since I read the sign outside wrong) I ordered the burger and beer special. I asked which beers it included and I was shown the list of draft beers. I chose Delirium which is a Belgian golden ale. I think it was the hostess that gave me water because someone else came to take my actual order. Unfortunately there was no room at the bar so I sat at one of the few tables. I was asked how I wanted my burger. I told the person medium. It took about 17 minutes to get my food. My beer came within 5 minutes,. The French fries were most likely frozen because they didn't look fresh cut. But they were tasty, so I assumed they put enough salt on them. The burger had grilled onions lettuce (romaine I think) and a slice of tomato. The burger was flavorful and juicy. The lettuce was crisp and the onion had a grilled smoky taste. read more

Was a great spot for a group brunch! good location, easy for everyone to meet up, prices were good. $187 for table of 7, included tip. Plus... 2 of us got the unlimited brunch drink package, everyone else still got 1 free drink with brunch anyway. Nicely situated only a few blocks from the Javits Center, Scallywag's was a welcome place to eat after a long morning at Comic Con. A few friends and I got situated quickly and prepared for some brunch. They have a pretty sweet deal where they have a free Mimosa, Bellini, or Bloody Mary with any brunch order. We were all hungry and welcomed nice service and food (generous portions). I ordered the smoked salmon eggs Benedict but everyone else enjoyed sheppards pie and burgers quite nicely. I updated my prior review (below) because the Manager responded kindly to my not so positive review. Honestly it could have been better, especially service wise. But everyone deserves a second chance. I may come around and give them a second chance who knows. I'm sure they will do just fine with out my business as it seems from at least their Yelp reviews, that they have a solid fan base. I wish I would have read the reviews before going around the corner for lunch with my colleague today. AWESOME Irish pub in NYC. Did brunch here and the hollandaise sauce they make for their poached eggs is some of the best I've ever had. It's kind of cheesy almost. The mimosas were good, and the potatoes were amazing as well. Definitely recommend for a brunch spot, and would totally come back for dinner. read more

This is one of those "I'm here at 6:00 pm on a Saturday with 5 friends" type of reviews. Not one of those 'I was here wasted at 2:00am after a break up' reviews. Our 5th stop of 7, came here to kill time and literally just found the closest bar to us. Ordered a beer at the bar, chilling. Then one by one we all go to the bathroom and come back with this 'oh my god' discussed look on our face. Let me paint the picture for you. Walk down stairs into a dingy dungeon. Low light, 3 doors to choose from all one-seaters. No boys/girls room. Open the door, walk in the smallest 'room' i have ever been in. There was literally everything you can imagine BESIDES poop on the floor. It smelled like the pee-monster died in here, there was a hanger and toilet paper on the floor. A hanger.... Creepy!! They DEFINITELY didn't clean from the night before. Exit, go to the sink. It had some weird stuff in and stuck to it. I couldn't even tell you what it was and the water wouldn't wash it down. The rest of my stay there was haunted by the memory. It does get 2 stars because the mozzarella sticks i ordered were good and the hostess wasn't too miserable. Horay for hand sani. Wife and I were staying in Hell's Kitchen area for the night and craving bar food. This place is incredible. Typically have live music and don't forget to yelp check in for free shot. NOTE - it has to be a fireball shot. Decent menu, reasonably priced, and serve food late. I highly recommend the Cricken Chicken it was insanely good. Breaded chicken cutlet, good amount of crumbled bacon, omg the moonshine sauce is great (honey mustard mixed with bbq), and mozzerella. Shoestring fries similar to McDonalds. Only complaint like others is that the temperature inside was a bit uncomfortably warm. I'd definitley go back for the beers and food. read more

This is a great place to sit with a table full of food, then they play loud music. I heard rap and then I knew the next song, it was Eminem. Really? I couldnt eat or drink my Guinness. I felt sick because the lady behind the bar started giving me the evil eye. So I asked her if she was the dj and she said yes. So. I said, "that music is making me sick. I can't eat my food listening to that shit." This generation is a piece of garbage if thats the way to please customers. O can't wait to go home and drink to some Iron Maiden. I was in New York in September and was staying in an apartment above this bar so I made sure to call in for a pint and some food to see what it was like, after our first visit to the bar we were sold and ended up coming back 4 times throughout the 5 times we were there. The first day myself and my girlfriend called in for lunch. We were met by a lovely waitress (Blonde and Irish, sorry I forget her name) who was very nice. She even stayed chatting to us, asking about our holiday and really just gave off a lovely vibe. Anyway, she gave us a menu each and even told us that they had a happy hour deal where we would get a free cocktail with every main course ( NICE ONE :D ). I went for the macaroni and cheese and my girlfriend went for the toasted sandwich special. Both were amazing. One of the nicest macaroni and cheese meals I think I have ever had and I took a taste of the toasted sandwich it was lovely. Price wise it was also very fair. I also tried their Scallywag's Branded lager which was $5 verses $7 o $8 for all the premium beers, it was very drinkable and I ended up having it every day I came back. We came back a the next night for dinner and we saw the front bar was full so thought we were in trouble but we were shown to the back of the bar where they have a proper seating area. They had plenty of seating out there also so we had no problems getting a spot. This night I went for the Philly Cheese Steak and my partner went for a Chicken type of dish which had a red wine sauce (Which was lovely, but our only negative was there was no pricing on the menu so when the bill came we found out the Chicken dish was $26 whereas my Philly cheese steak was only $12 I think, it just would have been nice to know the pricing first). Both dishes were beautiful. Honestly, I can safely say this became one of our favourite spots during our stay and I would highly recommend it. He noticed I was having a rough night so he made me feel welcomed in a cozy and warm place. Free wifi, good food drinks, best Guinness in the city and the most lovely host. ZERO Stars. Three people of color walk into a bar - this is not the start of a joke but what happened to us Saturday 10 June 2017. The bartender walks up to the darkest in complexion of the three of us, my African American friend and the birthday boy and asks him to leave. No reason given. I didn't immediately catch on until my friend headed towards the door so I ask the bartender what is going on and he asks "Is he with you? Oh sorry I didn't know. He can come back." The bartender tried to yell after my friend but he already exited. I asked the bartender what happened and he repeats; "I didn't know he was with you." We go back outside to talk to my friend to ask what the bartender told him specifically. I head back in to ask the bartender's name and see if a manager is on duty. The bartender at first hesitates to give his name but finally answers "John" another older man walks up and starts yelling that my friend was kicked out because he showed up drunk on a previous occasion - funny that's not what the bartender originally said. The bartender gave no explanation at all. We were barely there 3 seconds before my friend was told to leave. I asked the manager's name and again he initially refused to give his name but eventually answered "Mike". I think we can all cut through the nonsense and conclude why my friend was asked to leave. Three people of color in sea of white faces... I have a stronger word than "scallywags" for the lowlives who work here. Another bar a block away was fortunate enough to host us and we spent money and tipped generously for the excellent hospitality. Plenty of great bars in the area. Please do not patronize this junkyard. read more

The bar itself was nice enough, with bathrooms in decent condition. I stopped by for brunch and ordered the Olympic Salad. The bartender was pretty friendly, though distracted at times. It was definitely a Chargers bar as well (in case you're a Chargers fan looking for somewhere to go) . My first clue should have been the bartender asking me to make sure the chicken was cooked properly, but it seemed fine so I was like "what they hey, I'll give it a shot." Poor decision. The chicken didn't taste that great and the one tomato that I did try tasted awful; there were also several wilted, limp greens mixed in. Fun Irish bar with a decent menu, Scallywag's Irish Pub & Restaurant will hit the spot. Frequent readers will know (who am I kidding, no one reads these), I have a soft spot for Irish Bars. Scallywag's is very much an Irish bar, with currency posted on the walls and authentically Irish staff (accents and all). They have Irish classics on tap, such as Guinness and Harp, and also a pretty expansive food menu of Irish and pub fare (we ordered the massive hummus plate). There were only two real negatives - one, a small roach crawled across the bar in front of us, which I promptly killed with a coaster. The staff was very nice and hospitable about the whole thing, and even gave us free drinks after that, so it was totally worth it and not a deal breaker for me (hey it's New York get used to it). Second, and most egregiously, the live music wasn't Irish music, but covers of old folk songs from the 1970s. Overall, even with the negatives, I would still come back to Scallywag's. read more

Can't say enough about this place - the drink specials, the food and the service are all 10/10. Scallywags arguably serve the best fish and chips in NYC. I regularly come here for lunch and never leave disappointed, even though the music is debatable at times. The guys that work here, John and Chris, are two of the most welcoming bartenders I've come across in the city. You definitely won't leave here without a good laugh. They're beer selection is not very good, but they have a full bar & super friendly/nice bartenders. This gets 5 stars cuz its the only Charger bar in NYC, they play the San Diego Super Charger theme song every touchdown, and they have good deals on their "Charger" gameday menu!! read more
