Meh, over rated in my opinion but the only reason I took a star off was the service. Girl behind counter needs some customer service training. I know it was Saturday and the line was out the door but everybody was waiting patiently. I wanted to get a bunch of lucky charms cookies for the kids in the family who were visiting for Easter but they were short two. I asked if there were more coming or if they were sold out. Her response was "I don't know." (Insert blank stare)... When I asked if she could find out if there would be more, she huffed off to the window no more than three feet away and got more almost instantly. I have no idea why she had attitude about it. Stopped by on a rainy Thursday evening. Staff were helpful and professional, with less than typical New York rush - which is a good thing! Bought six cookies - one peanut butter, one oatmeal, 4 chocolate chip. The first two were good, but the chocolate chip are incredible! The sea salt finish makes the cookie. What's not to love about Schmackary's? I've been a customer for years and love trying new flavors every time I return. Broadway bakes? SO cool. The smell of cookies wafting down the sidewalk? Yes. Flavor recommendations from what I've had so far: Funfetti: very sweet, but definitely a classic and satisfying if you are really in the mood. The cream cheese icing is the best addition, and the underlying taste of sea salt in every flavor makes all the difference. Sweet Corn: SO GOOD. Sounds a little weird, but honestly amazing. Sweet but unique flavor with the corn/dried cranberry combo. Hummingbird: Trying to go dairy-free, this one is appealing and tastes great! Chocolate Duet: A lot of chocolate plus walnuts. Yes. Always a line, but goes pretty quick. Like traditional grandma recipe kind of taste, they have variety of flavors for you to choose from. The Maple Bacon is pretty interesting. I usually can't take a whole cookie because it is too sweet and buttery, it gets too much for me when I am half way from finishing it. Surprisingly, I finished up the whole Maple Bacon. These cookies are soft and delicious and pair perfectly with cold whole milk. It worth walking a few blocks from the clutter and clatter of Times Square into a cool neighborhood where you can catch some great Jazz music on the south side of the block at Birdland. Been meaning to try this place for some time and line was always too long. But yesterday evening I was passing by and the line was reasonable so gave it a try. I bought 6 different flavors for $15. I found every one of the cookies to be too sweet to the point where it overwhelmed the different flavors. In addition the cookies lacked the rich, creamy mouth feel of what I expect from a really good cookie. So overall, the cookies were a "meh". But probably would still give three stars if just basing the review on the cookies themselves. However the server was not able to describe each of the different cookie flavors or what made each flavor unique. Also the presentation and labeling of the cookies on display was haphazard and incomplete. Basically the shop did not show much interest in its customers. In summary, I had 6 mediocre cookies from a place that clearly relies on tourist traffic for most of its business and the service and presentation reflects a business that doesn't have to worry about repeat customers because of its location. If you are a tourist reading this and you truly want to get a great chocolate chip cookie try Amy's just a little ways up 9th Avenue. Or even just go to Whole Foods on Columbus Circle. Either place will provide you with a better cookie than you can find here. read more

Simply some of the best cookies in NYC. Roughly the size of the human skull, the size to price ratio doesn't disappoint. Cookies are crunchy on the outside and gooey on the inside. They'll keep you coming back for more with flavors such as Carrot Cake, Lucky Charms, Butterfingers, Caramel Apple, and the sweet and salty Hangover Cookie(a personal fav). - The cookies have a pleasant texture: a good balance of soft and chewy. They're not too sweet either. - I love the iconic Schmackary's wall with the Frenchie dog. It adds a good vibe to an otherwise chaotic part of the city. - When the weather's nice, you can sit outside on the benches by the aforementioned wall. Spend a weekend morning with a cookie and a coffee on that bench. It's a pleasant time. - The other treats they make are amazing too. Like the colossal cereal rice krispie treats and blondies. FYI, the rice krispie treats are available starting early afternoon. - UPDATE: the Golden Ticket is crack. It's basically a dense bar of Millionaire's Shortbread. And it's incredible. [Cons] - The cookies are regular sized and pretty thin. - While the cookie quality and flavors are always on point, but the toppings and mix-ins are sparse. Came here on a whim as my cousin and I were walking down the street looking for some sweets. Lo and behold...Schmackary's! Omg cookies galore!! Heaven right there and the cookies are massive! I looked at the list of the day and pinpointed my eyes to the Funfetti cookie and Red Velvet cookie, and not wanting to be super greedy and gluttonous I got one Red Velvet cookie. So good!! Just enough cocoa, not too sweet, and the frosting was just right. Luckily my cousin bought 3 more cookies (2 chocolate chip cookies and 1 carrot cake cookie to be exact) and gave me two chocolate chip cookies for later. So good!! Large chunks of chocolate chips (more like broken bits of chunks) throughout the cookie and specks of salt here and there. You ever try hot cocoa and add a pinch of salt? The salt just enhances the cocoa flavor, and boom these chocolate chip cookies were dynamite. I'm pretty sure after sharing with my dad on a long car ride the two cookies didn't last another day. I wish I grabbed more. Le sigh... My cousin got the carrot cake cookie and said it was just like eating a slice of cake but in cookie format; not too cloyingly sweet either. Do definitely try some cookies here. There is inside seating but it gets pretty cramped as space is quite small. Depending on the time of arrival there may or may not be a long line wrapping around the outside of the store. You have to go here! They have so many unique options and ability to customize your dessert order. The place itself was very cutely decorated, not a lot of seating and a little claustrophobic but they had seating available outside which I appreciated and that's where we sat. The line was out the door so you know it's amazing place! The staff was friendly and happy which made the environment feel welcoming and I especially appreciated it since they were so busy but still took the time to make you feel comfortable. The prices are pretty average and reasonable for being a popular dessert place in New York. I got the Sch'more brownie and my friend got the funfetti cookie. Both were delicious and really gave me that sweet tooth craving fix. I also can appreciate the fact that they deliver. You can see them making the desserts in the back and my brownie tasted freshly baked and wasn't just sitting out all day. Was a little rich so make sure you have something to drink with you, but if you love s'more themed desserts and chocolate like I do this will be your new favorite. My friend said his cookie tasted exactly like cake and was the perfect amount of softness. If you want dessert, this is a great place to get it. It probably doesn't make much sense that I found an amazing cookie bakery via a personal trainer; but I did. I follow Mark Fisher of Mark Fisher Fitness and he was giving himself a pat on the back for managing to be in the same room as some of these cookies without devouring them all, so they sounded like they were worth a try. Fit people like their food! First of all, they answer their emails! I wanted to know if the cookies would last until the next day because I had a sneaky plan to bring some with me as a gift for my sister in Philly. They answered promptly and were so friendly. The cookies do last a few days, as it happens, but are best on the day they're bought. It's a cute little place and the staff are very friendly. They weren't even the slightest bit perturbed when I was asking them to separate the cookies that contained nuts from the ones that didn't (sister has allergies). And as for the cookies? Just delicious. My sister and her husband agreed and we basically fought over them for the weekend I was staying. I know the guest probably isn't meant to eat the gift they bring, but these were just too delicious not to. They're big and each one is just so tasty. I particularly loved the carrot cake, red velvet and schmores but the choconut chip and chocolate chip were also yum-mo. I want to go back and try them ALL. Highly recommend. Unless you hate cookies. Props to Schmakary's for such creative cookies. It makes me want to go home and try to bake all of these! The cookies I tried were all flat and chewey. The chewiest (and my fave) was the pistachio, which is a take on the Italian cookie made with almond paste. The sweet corn was fun, and like the pistachio, had that hit of salt...I think they used sea salt flakes. The oatmeal one was the most mundane, but by no means bad. It was my husband's fave. In this little shop on 45th and 9th you will find the most F'AMAZING COOKIES EVER. I was entrusted with providing desserts to a dinner party this past weekend and knew exactly where I wanted to go. I initially wanted to nab some of the raved about Red Velvet or Carrot Cake cookies but they were not available. Instead, I picked up their oatmeal scotchie (oats, butterscotch, cinnamon), classic chocolate chip with sea salt, chocolate chip with walnuts and sea salt, peanut butter cup, and maple bacon. Five substantially sized cookies for 5 little Asian girls? Sounds about right! The total cost was $10/5 cookies, plus an additional $2.50 for a nice brew of unsweetened tea, and free wifi! The cookies were a major hit - favorites being the chocolate chip with walnuts and the oatmeal scotch. The maple bacon was strongly bacon flavored, which I'll admit can either be a pro or a con. All cookies were just the right amount of softness and deliciously chewy. The flavors were unique and blended together wonderfully - a huge fan! I think Schmackary's was just ok. I got 3 cookies and only ate the classic chocolate chip. I tried the peanut butter cup and the red velvet but ended up giving those away. The red velvet did not have any other discernible taste but sweetness and the peanut butter cup was just ok. The three stars is for the classic chocolate chip which was was the perfect mix of sweet and salty and the chocolate chips were still melty and gooey. I'd go back for the classic but wouldn't go out of my way to come here on my next trip to NY if i'm not in the neighborhood already. read more
