    Chocolate Babka

Soooooooo worth the hype!!!! It's like a chocolate croissant but 10x better. So fluffy, so chocolatey. Love the bits of chocolate. Would probably be even better warmed up but still amazing straight out the packaging!!! ~18 for a loaf but if you split that between 5 days, technicallyyyyyy it's $3ish per day for breakfast ;) it is worth every single penny!!!

Oh, yuuuum! So I didn't know that Breads was a "thing" until I happened to stumble upon this location when I was in the area. I was really looking for a cup of tea, but ended up getting a cinnamon-something-or-other and a yogurt parfait instead. All of their breads looked fantastic; the gentleman behind me was getting a loaf sliced. If I had space in my carton, I'd have done the same. In addition to the breads, they also have an assortment of pre-packed salads, slaws, dips and such. My only issue is that the size of hot drink cups are REALLY small. If you're getting a tea, it'll likely be brewed quite strong since the cups are itty bitty. That's the only reason this is 4, not 5, stars. 2025: 49/100

Bread Bakery was decent overall, but everything we ordered came out cold, which was disappointing. I was really hoping they would warm up the pretzel, but they didn't. We tried the pretzel croissant, the mozzarella sandwich, and a hot chocolate. The flavors were good, just not hot like we expected. The hot chocolate was the only wow factor . It was so rich . There is sitting but not many and there is no bathroom. On the positive side, the staff was really nice and the place itself is clean. I just wish the food had been served warm.

    Black Sesame Babka

Dear all my black sesame folks, Black Sesame Babka is here, but only in March! Breads Bakery has worked together with Molly Yeh to curate this life-changing, indulgent treat. I loved it so much that I recommended my friends to buy together! *Black Sesame Babka $17.50 each, $30 for two They generously stuff the babka with so much black sesame paste. The rich, nutty black sesame filling pairs perfectly with the sweetness of slightly melted, crunchy chocolate. The top achieves a golden-brown, flaky perfection. The buttery and toasted flavor somehow reminds me of shredded coconut filling in hong kong style cocktail bun (雞尾包). I'm not someone with a big sweet tooth, but this black sesame babka totally won me over. I heated up the babka in toaster oven at 350°F for 7 minutes--chef's kiss. I was very surprised the baking sheet wasn't drenched in oil. In fact, there was no oil at all and the babka didn't feel oily either. They've truly mastered the art of making babka.

We had to try the chocolate babka after this place was listed on a NYT list. A little pricey but definitely very tasty. Typical bakery set up you could order from the counter and service was efficient. A few places to sit too but we just took our babka with us.

This newish location of Breads has already saved me twice when I needed to grab a loaf. Chocolate rugelach and French sourdough are both great. Grab and go items are available, and they have some seating.

Bread for the home front! Sourdough Rye and regular! New York bakeries are the best! Noticed some very tasty looking sandwiches, pastries and savory items for breakfast and lunch.

This is my first time trying this spot. The coffee is really good and the pastries they have is really fresh and they have a lot of options of sandwiches too.. the place is clean and cozy.. service is fast and the team members are friendly.

Popped in to cheat on my diet to grab some goodies on the way to a conference and wasn't disappointed! I got a cheese roll (flaky yet mild), fruit cup (standard), a chai latte (SO GOOD), and a lemon cake (TBD). The staff was so kind and even offered complimentary apple pie while we were waiting in line to be serviced (I've had better but it was moist). This is a beautiful and welcoming store. Appreciate how kind the staff treated everyone!

This location is busy and clean. I ordered the Mediterranean quiche & pretzel. The Mediterranean quiche is personal sized and delicious with the veggies. The pretzel was fresh & soft. I also ordered the earl grey cake & chocolate babka to go. Those pair great with coffee or tea at home for a snack!

    8oz inside

While the customer service is good, the layout of the shop is efficient and annoying. There's no room for customers to wait for their drinks while other customers leave with their orders. There's a lot of trying to squeeze past one another and/or bumping into strangers. The food looks pretty basic and overpriced. I ordered a hot chocolate and it tastes like hot cardboard and it certainly wasn't worth the $8.62 I paid for an 8oz. cup. It is nice, however, that they do carry some gluten-free (GF) options. I won't be back. Happy eats!

My wife and I were visiting New York and this place was on the way to Central Park. We stopped in for a quick bite of breakfast. I was expecting bagels, but they didn't have any. That's ok because they had chocolate babka. I had heard of it, but never tried it. We bought a loaf, put it in a back pack and kept going. Two days later, back in Texas, I unwrapped the babka and toasted it for a few minutes. It was incredible!!! The flavor and consistency of the bread is amazing! The chocolate was delicious. It's worth a trip here just for the chocolate babka.

When this first opened, my thought was "Great....just what we need. Another BAKERY !!" But it's NOT just another bakery. It's fantastic. Offering many types of breads (Hence the name). Sweet and savory selections. Sandwiches; breakfast & lunch. Coffee. Salads too ! They have afternoon in-store tastings / samples on a regular basis. The best almond croissants in the city, the only chocolate babka you need to buy (in midtown). One thing not to pass up is their Black & White cookie. They aren't those thick, plastic wrapped belly bombs, that you know so well. These are made with flaky pastry and the frosting would make a Belgium Chocolatier sigh. I can't decide which side is better, even though I eat about 3 a week (for the past year)

The bistro itself is very nicely lit. I almost felt like I was in a movie. I had the Turkish eggs and a side of Bourbon glazed bacon. The chili-drizzled poached eggs sat on a bed of yogurt nestled against triangles of thin flatbread. Very hearty and filling for someone who was on their feet all day. The bacon was such a treat. I was afraid they would be soggy from the glaze or a little too sweet but it was the absolute perfect balance of both. My friend tried out the chicken and waffles and I was almost jealous that I hadn't ordered that. After being given a piece to try, I can confidently say that the Belgian waffle had the nicest crispy exterior and a beautifully fluffy inside. The chicken was such a wonderful savory pairing to the not too sweet waffle. The iced coffee was a nice side pairing. The pumpkin spice flavor was the perfect amount of sweet without being overpowering. I will be returning soon!

Think vintage wallpaper, little knick-knacks, and warm lighting. It's got character. It was a hearty portion - super fresh and flavorful, and honestly more than I could finish (not a complaint!). I also ordered a Diet Pepsi with grenadine; they don't carry Diet Coke, which I almost docked a point for, but the mix was unexpectedly delicious. Highly recommend it. My date ordered the hanger steak and said it was absolutely amazing. Only hiccup: his first glass of wine he got came out hot... like, microwave-level warm. Fortunately, the server brought a new (cold) one and the rest of the meal was smooth sailing. Service was friendly, the vibe was homey and relaxed, and the food was solid across the board. Would definitely come back, especially for that salad and another round of grenadine magic.

It was our first time eating at a Friedman's location. It had a nice diner feel to it, with a mix of booths and tables. The brunch menu has a variety of breakfast items, salads, sandwiches and burgers, starters, and entrees (fish tacos, grain bowl, fried chicken). I like that several of the items are naturally gluten free, and some can be made gluten free by request. We decided to go with three breakfast items from the brunch menu: I got the shakshuka, my sister got the Nova Benny, and we got the lemon ricotta pancakes to share. All 3 dishes were great. The shashuka came with grilled ciabatta, perfect for dipping into the sunny side eggs and tomato sauce. My sister loved that the poached eggs and smoked salmon of the Nova Benny came on top of a crispy potato latke. The pancakes were fluffy and the lemon ricotta and lemon zest elevated their flavor. Our server was friendly and attentive, and he asked us if we had any allergies when he took our order. He came by several times to check on us and refill water. I would return to Friedman's when I'm in the Herald Square area, or check out one of their other locations in the city.

Sarge's ended up being the perfect alternative, just a quick five-minute walk from our hotel. We arrived around 5:00 pm on a Sunday and were seated right away, which already felt like a win. The meal started with coleslaw and both a half sour and full sour pickle--such a classic deli touch, and a great way to kick things off. I ordered the half sandwich with matzah ball soup, and the portion sizes were no joke. The soup alone could have been a full meal: a huge bowl with an equally massive matzah ball. The broth was warm and soothing, and the matzah ball was incredibly light with a perfect texture. The half pastrami on rye was just as impressive. Even "half" was stacked high with flavorful, tender pastrami. Adding a bit of mustard from the table brought everything together--it was simple, classic, and exactly what I was hoping for. Not only was it one of the more reasonably priced meals of the trip, but it was also genuinely satisfying.
