    Frankfurter w/onions!
    Charles W.

I was walking around Upper Arlington and right there in the Third Fifth Bank parking lot (or it might be Fifth Third Bank--I dont' know what happened to First, Second, and Fourth) was the Schmidt's Sausage Truck. I was cold and little perplexed. On my walk through the neighborhoods I saw several signs with the word ENOUGH. In smaller print was EqualUpperArlington.com. Okay. I was more cold than perplexed. UA is 88% white and 0.252% Aftrican-American. So ENOUGH what? I like places where I can walk around and find a frankfurter in a bank parking lot--even if the bank name is a little schizophrenic. I like that Schmidts doesn't subscribe to that Hot Dog business. It's a Frankfurter! I asked for a Frankfurter with onions and the dude put it together in about 4 seconds. I stuck it in my pocket and used it as a handwarmer on the way back to where I was staying. I ate it standing by a frozen birdbath in the backyard. Plump, juicy, with just a tiny hint of spice that seperated Schmidt from Oscar Myer. On my next walk around the neighborhood, I'm going to look for a Bourbon Truck. Now that would be ENOUGH.

I've been to Schmidt's brick-and-mortar and had recently heard about how they had a food truck about a few weeks ago. I came during Village Lights in German Village and there was a long line! Didn't matter to me since we weren't waiting too long and the workers were quick to prepare food. They mostly had handhelds, like brats and such. I decided to get the Fat Daddy. It's a thick slice of bologna in a pretzel bun. Yummy! It had a nice kick to it. My sister got the Bahama Mama. A brat that she added kraut and pickled cabbage to. She said it tasted like a regular hot dog. Most stuff on the menu is $7.50. Expensive! But I get that they've got to make a profit somehow. Service was alright. No one cracked a smile but they all seemed nice. The menu is pretty limited so I would recommend going to their actual restaurant if you haven't been before. Still, their food is pretty good so it's worth trying the truck as well. You can even get yourself a huge cream puff if you want something sweet.

We ended up coming to the Oakland Nursery in Dublin to get some nice foliage for the house. I was pleasantly surprised to see the sausage truck to be sitting in the parking lot when we pulled in! I love Schmidt's sausage house downtown with their wonderful buffet. It's my go-to location to bring visitors who come visit us in columbus. It was nice to see the truck have the same quality of food as the restaurant downtown. The two dudes in the truck were pumping out food quickly so there was no line waiting for me when I approached the truck. The bahama mama sausages are always my favorite, super snappy with a nice spice. The sauerkraut is always fresh and nice and crisp. The pickled cabbage was off the charts and the german potato salad was good as always. I think I will be hunting down this truck the next time we hit the town! Huzzah!

    Bahama mama platter. Soooo good!

I LOVE Schmidt's. It is a Columbus staple and when you're on the run or don't feel like going to the actual restaurant, the food trucks are the perfect option. They always have multiple food trucks out and about Columbus & the surrounding burbs. They do a really good job of updating their website and social media to let everyone know where the food trucks are. They usually would come to my work on Food Truck Fridays and although all Friday summers had various food trucks, the ones where Schmidt's would partake were always my fave! Working from home since March, I've missed my Food Truck Fridays so I noticed the Schmidt's Food Truck is usually at the Fifth Third Bank in Upper Arlington, a short drive for me. I ALWAYS get the Bahama Mama platter. That is the #1 sausage that Schmidt's has and it is a must try. It's so juicy and flavorful-- just like if you were in the restaurant. All platters also come with red cabbage (fantastic!) and German potato salad (out of this world!). You also cannot leave Schmidt's food truck without getting your hands on one of those jumbo cream puffs. This most recent time, I got the September 2020 special- Graeter's Black Raspberry Chip. SO GOOD! It may be the best of all their cream puffs I've tried. I regretted only getting one. I hope they make this a regular summer collaboration. On my most recent trip to this food truck, they were a well oiled machine. I think I placed my order, was paying and as soon as I hit the tip button and signed, she handed me my bag. Honestly, it cannot take more than 90 seconds. I was very impressed! Can't wait to be back soon. I am a huge fan of Schmidt's and always will be. Make it a priority to get to the restaurant or food truck if you haven't been there yet. They've been in business for over 130 years, so that speaks for itself. So impressive!

Red cabbage, German potato salad, and a German Bologna sandwich with grilled onions.

My grandma lives right by where the truck was parked tonight and the smell drew me in. We walked over and the guys working were super friendly and helpful in deciding what to order. I got a German Bologna platter. My husband got 2 bratwurst. My platter came with the sandwich, red cabbage and German potato salad. I don't like cabbage normally, but I wanted to try it to just see how it was....omg. it was so so so good, so was the potato salad. The bologna.....amazing. my husband is very happy with his brats and has gobbled them both down rather quickly. I will for sure visit again when they are by my grandma's house.

Chicken brat, baked potato soup, staufs cream puff
    Macie P.

There were both good and bad things about my order. First, the cashier was very friendly and nice. I got the chicken brat ($8) with onions, baked potato soup ($5 I believe) and Staufs cream puff ($8 I believe). The chicken brat and cream puff were delicious. However, it is a little overpriced. The baked potato soup was entirely flavorless. It tasted like the only two ingredients were cream and potato. I would not recommend the soup. My fiancé got the bahama mama and loved it. I would come back for the sausage and cream puffs, but not the soup.

    Friendly server photo bomb!

Superb service. Same quality delicious Bahama Mama sausage with sauerkraut and grilled onions, and spicy mustard. Don't forget your giant cream puff!! Free parking at Crimson Cup. Drinks sold in the Crimson Cup where you can sit and eat in then air conditioned dining room. Enjoy lounging in comfy leather chairs or sit at a table to eat.

Schmidt's Sausage Truck. A German kitchen on wheels.
    Mary Margaret M.

We all know and love Schmidt's tucked in the heart of German Village, but did you know they have a kitchen on wheels?!? Yep. They Schmidt's has a food truck. When I saw it I immediately Yelped it to get the scoop and much to my chagrin, the Sausage Truck doesn't have a Yelp page. Well, it's about time. Their food and service is great. It's well worth talking about. The Sausage Truck rolled into my neck of the woods at corner of Weisheimer and High Street this evening and boy was I excited. I'm not from Columbus, but I had been hearing from coworkers and friends that even if German food isn't your thing, everybody has to try Schmidt's at least once. It was on Man Vrs. Food for heavens sake and the Bahama Mama is THE official food of Columbus (in case you weren't aware). Well, I ventured down to German Village a few weeks back and had a delightful dinner at Schmidt's Sausage Haus. So much so, I have been thinking of the next time I can make it there to get a cup of their potato soup. Gosh, it's so tasty. So when their food truck popped up in the Crimson Cup parking lot today, I had to go. I hadn't gotten a chance to make it down to German Village to get the cup of soup, so the soup came to me! It was fate. Schmidt's Sausage Truck brings most beloved menu items to a street near you. Some of the sausage staples you can expect to be on the menu include the Bahama Mama, Knockwurst, Fat Daddy's, Frankfurter, and more. They offer their classic warm German Potato Salad and a warm cabbage salad if you get the meal. Their Bahama Mama sandwich is served on a white bread-like bun. If their humongous puff pastries are your thing, you're in luck--they've got those too! The coolest part about finding the Sausage Truck in front of the Crimson Cup in Clintonville is they have a deal with Crimson Cup: the Sausage Truck sells the food and Crimson Cup sells the beverages. So grab a bite to eat from The Truck and a tasty Crimson Cup tea to wash it down and pull up a seat at any table in Crimson Cup. It's a pretty amazing. Crimson Cup has indoor and outdoor seating so you've got plenty of options. Expect good sausages. Get good sausages. That's the motto here. Bottom line: it's good. Real good. But don't expect sushi or burgers--expect sausages--it's their thing and they do it right.

    Bahama Mama Platter $11

Driving to my bank in dublin and saw the Schmidt's Sausage Truck parked around the Oakland Nursery .. stopped and ordered a bahama mama platter that included German potato salad (warm of course), red cabbage and an over sized bahama mama on piece of white bread .. I ordered extra sauerkraut !! The smells of the platter resonated in my car on the ride home !! Tore into the platter - with my favorite mustard .. the two types of sauerkraut were spot on ... potato salad did not disapppont , and for those of you who have had the BM, just the right amount of heat in the sausage a paired with the sauerkraut .. they do offer the cream puffs & as you know they are to die for but passed today ..you get a chance to order a platter or sandwich from the Schmidt's Food truck .. excellent comfort food - nice change up from preparing a meal at home .. 3 trucks locally - find one and enjoy the comfort food :)

One bratwurst was $13 dollars. Simply can't justify that price. Great food but not worth the price of admission.

Happy Hour specials: $4 Hefe Weizen(wheat beer), $5 Fries with Bier Gravy, Lager battered Chicken Tenders and Garlic pretzel bites. I'm in! Everything came out in reasonable time and I'm not going to describe every bite, but I was in heaven. The Bier gravy fries were special. Garlic Pretzel bites were crazy good. Chicken tenders were seasoned perfectly and the sauces (honey mustard and some sorta bourbon bbq) had me cross dippin and dunkin. I basically ordered dive bar food items, but it was the best I've had especially for $5 each. Washing it down with a wheat beer just kicked it over the fence. I even left room for dessert which I never do. Boston Cream Puff. OMG. The custard was lighter than most but I'm glad it was. It didn't last 2 minutes. I love to find places that make me genuinely happy after I'm finished eating. I'm coming back for sure! So happy I stopped
