The owners and the staff are so friendly. When you come in, you go to the cash register to order. Usually, there isn't much of a wait to get your order in. I love trying their different beers and seeing what new brews they have. For food, we ordered the Buffalo chicken fries and the Tatanka wings (which is they're special Buffalo sauce). The wings were HUGE! You get a generous portion and they were cooked perfectly! Having been here once before for lunch I was really looking forward to returning!! They have Tots!! I am a sucker for Tots and theirs do not disappoint!! It's kind of set up with a family old school pizza parlor style with large almost cafeteria style tables. Perfect for large groups. While you can enjoy all their alcoholic beverages anywhere in the restaurant there is a 21+ side. They even have a little game section that is perfect for entertaining the kiddos. On this visit, the beer selection was down considerably with at least 6 of the taps offline. 4 stars Service- Well this is the confusing part for this brewery. Have to order from the bar or at the register. This is ok and not totally out of the norm but I don't like having to go grab my own food order while watching several staff members often standing and chatting with each other. Same goes for the bar service, it can be great to almost bad at times. The bartenders tend to be a little nonchalant in their approach to service. Not bad, just noticeable. This is after dining at the restaurant probably a couple of dozen times since its opening. 3 out of 5 stars here. Ambiance- really nice new restaurant/brewery. Outdoor seating, outdoor patio and inside cafeteria style seating. The bar is nice. Big roll up windows out front, but with a view of a brick wall! One of the nicest breweries around and if I could knock anything it would be that they could use bigger/more tvs in the bar area. 5 stars here. I love this place for many reasons, #1 is their always changing beer menu. #2 is the PERFECT pizza. I stick with cheese or pep; my kids never leave a slice! #3 is because of the UNPOPULAR opinion of the kid area. I'm sorry but don't blame the parents who pay NO attention to their child while they are in a restaurant. There are some of us WHO DO pay attention to our children while they are in the play area and do not allow them to act like wild animals. Anyway this is great establishment who actually think about the YOUNG FAMILIES who want to get out and enjoy some food and beer while we deal with parenthood. Hubby and I came in for a brew and bite after soaking in our favorite hot springs. I had the George Michael's cream and wasn't bad the other names were funny. Restaurant and bar were filled and definitely not what we're used to for wanting to just sit and have a beer after a long work week. 4 stars was for an unconventional set up, you stand in a long line, wait for an open seat, then they give you a buzzard to go pick up your own food at the kitchen. I don't understand why they ask if you want to add gratuity besides for the kid picking up our dishes. You're not paying for service. We ordered the Italian and Buffalo chicken sandwiches with their tots and the wings. Wings had a great sauce, but wish they were crispier like we asked. Tots were good and sandwiches were on the drier side. The weren't edible the next day, but we will have to come back and try their pizza. Back after several years and we had a great experience! Me and my husband were looking for somewhere to eat/drink and watch a college football game on Labor day weekend. We remembered Schussboom because we had recently attended the Zane Lamprey comedy show there. We walked in and sat at the bar to watch the game. We were immediately asked if we wanted anything to drink. I usually like sour beers but they didn't have any, but based on that the female bartender recommended one of the fruited wheat ales- Bear Bait- and I really enjoyed it! We also shared a pizza Mambo Combo and it was delicious. Someone was always asking if we needed anything. We had the best friendly service sitting at the bar, watching the game. I sat at the bar and waited for 15 minutes while multiple bartenders walked right past me, looked me dead in the eyes and continued just to clean cups, fill other orders and not serve me. I've been to Schussboom a few times but only just for a quick bite and a beer so I have never really gotten the chance to hang out despite it being a great place to do so! The long tables and beautiful outdoor patio and rooftop areas are perfect for casual hangout with a large group of friends or family. They also have a kids area so bring everyone! They have a great selection of local and house made beers as well as a 21+ bar area with delicious sounding cocktails I've yet to try! My favorite beer from here right now is the Bear Bait, a honey raspberry wheat ale, apparently the silver medal Great American Beer Festival winner of 2022! While they also have quite an extensive food menu including salads and sandwiches, I've only ever had the pizza, wings, and the fun and delicious Tetris-block shaped tots! All 4 of the wing flavors are so unique so it's hard to pick a favorite so try them all! The Tatanka is kind of your classic buffalo wing, can't go wrong there. The Thai dye and the sticky yaki are both kind of sweet Asian flavored wings with the Thai dye a little spicy and tasting of coconut curry. Lastly, the Bomb Hole. Honestly, eat at your own risk. This stuff is SPICY. I definitely like a little spice but I was dying after one tiny bite! If you love spicy food this is the wing for you! For the sides, the SanFran Garlic Parmesan Tots are a must get if you like garlic fries. The Schuss Poutine is also a fun thing to share with the table. Bot are super flavorful and the braised short rib meat on the poutine is nice and tender. Finally, the pizza! My personal favorite is the Pepp Rally that has pepperoni, salami, garlic, and pepperoncinis. But the star of the pizza for me is the crust! It tastes like really good sourdough bread and brings back memories of a Noe Valley Pizza in SF. It's a bit of a drive if you don't live in the south part of town but definitely worth checking out! We went here for the bunch. It was good and it had lots of choices. We like the atmosphere and the location. We needed more restaurants in South Reno. Everyone was nice even though they get busy and are feeling rushed. The style of this restaurant is unlike anything else in Reno. It really has a mountain ski feel. And lots of beer choices to try. My husband loves sausage so that was a nice surprise. I got the corned beef hash since it is not something I eat at home. It was tasty but I could have eaten a second egg. And I like my eggs over hard, not runny inside. I know that it is normal to have runny eggs with corned beef but I asked for hard egg. One of the original items that was on the menu that I asked for, they did not have at the time. Once other issue we noticed with the food is that is was quite salty. I love having Schussboom in south Reno! The ambiance is very fun and playful with an artistic homage to our local mountains. They have a kids play area which is great for families and they keep the bar area 21+. They also have a very cool outdoor patio and rooftop space. Unfortunately, their patio is not dog friendly. Schussboom has a fully stocked bar and they offer their own brews. It's fun to try the different beers they have as they do rotate over time. The true reason for my 5-star review is their food! Not only do they have a space for kids to play (and watch TV), there was a lot of room to sit, eat, and drink. Their food is what you'd normally find for beer spots, however they have some great twists and flavors. We had their tater tots and you have to try the salt and vinegar ones. They were a hit. Just moved back to South Reno and could not wait to visit my favorite hot dog place, Shop and Go. Gone! It's now Schussboom and we gave it a try. Super close to our place, we arrived mid-day Saturday, plenty of parking, nice crowd, lots of room at the bar. The bar tender was not in the mood to chat, I guess it's not her thing but the one that relieved the first one was great. Beer selection was large; I tend to lean toward IPAs but the ones that I did try were a bit too earthy/hoppy. No worries, lots of other choices. Food wise, we ordered a pizza with crispy pancetta and meatballs. OMG delicious, one of the best pies we have had in a long time. Whodda thunk? Great pizza in a micro-brewery. The beers here are incredible. Anything that has the Schussboom name on it is made in house. I mostly get these beers. I really enjoy the variety of beers as most places in town just have a IPA, double IPA, triple IPA, quadruple IPA. I've loved the Schusshboom Hefeweizen and ciders. it's amazing that the German beers here really taste German. They do not taste like American beers that are made in a German style. They taste like they're made in Germany. The food here is so much better than typical bar food and you can tell the owners really care about the product that they are putting out. The pizzas really high-quality. I really enjoy the crust and all the toppings. I'm not a big fan of pizzas that do not have tomato sauce as a base. So be careful with what you order because about half of their pizzas do you have an alternate sauce. That's just a personal preference for me though. Even I just on pizza quality of alone I ranked this near the top in Reno. A huge added bonus is this is a very kid friendly restaurant. There is a large kids play area that's enclosed and easy for parents to have hang out with friends and safely watch their kids in a play area. Several of us parents I have made this place a regular for after daycare pick up. This is definitely a five-star locally owned restaurant that I enjoy going to and supporting. read more

First time visiting this restaurant. We had garlic tots, Mexican tots, hot dry rub chicken wings and two beers. The portions were extremely generous could have fed at least four people. The garlic tots were nice and crispy with minced garlic but they were a bit too greasy. The Mexican tots were loaded with chorizo, onions and lots of yummy stuff. The wings were perfectly cooked all the way through. I'd visit again and maybe try a pizza. My husband, friends and I were in Reno for a weekend to attend a wedding. We are all originally from the Bay Area in California. The night before the wedding, they were looking for a place and they suggested this brewery where we could all hang out. Food - I ordered the Czech Pilsner beer and some garlic parm fries. HOLY COW they give you so much fries but it was absolutely delicious. The beer was also tasty. I thought it was a little weird that they only offered specific sizes in the store, and if you wanted anything large you had to take it to go. I don't remember what the reason was why they did it this way (Or if there even was a reason?) But I just thought it was strange why it was on the menu if you couldn't order it to drink inside. Service - Fast! I ordered and 3 minutes later the beer came out. Another 3 minutes later and the fries were ready - hot and fresh! They offered ranch with my fries, which usually never happens because everyone assumes you eat fries with ketchup, but I was so happy they offered and had ranch available! Ambiance - Super spacious brewery with indoor and outdoor seating. They also have a little play area in towards the back for kids to play in. The tables are long and wide, making it possible for large parties to come through. However, we were there on a Saturday night and it was pretty mellow! I would think there would be more people around to have a beer on a Saturday evening! Definitely nice place to stop by if you are in the area! read more

So I have returned......how many of you return to a business after you were there for a Yelp Event? This week I planned a couple of meet ups and chose Schussboom as our spot. At 5 pm I was going to grab a table in the bar. But first I checked out the huge beer board. Slightly disappointed that they were out of the fabulous Dragonfruit Cider. So the bartender suggested Jungle Juice, the current cider with notes of apple and citrus. Then checked back at the bar entrance where I opened my tab. Then sat down and enjoyed my meeting and cider. Especially nice the owner Brianna stopped by the table. It gave me a chance to thank her and her husband, Jason, for hosting and incredible Elite event two weeks prior. And she answered question my guest had about the brewery. At 7 pm I went back to the check in stand and ordered the Forager. I headed to the back patio for a quieter table. From everywhere you can easily here your name called when your order is ready. The Forager was absolutely fabulous. Piping hot, perfectly crispy crust, topped with earthy wild mushrooms, roasted leeks, soft tangy goat cheese, fresh thyme, and an aged balsamic reduction drizzled over the entire pie was the best finishing touch. Just as fantastic the next day cold for lunch. To go boxes can be found on the rack next to the food pick station. The main restaurant is family friendly with a kids play area in the back left corner. Adults only in the bar. A small front patio. A larger patio and second floor deck in the back. Pretty great selection and generous pies! I think schussboom has a great vibe, casual for large groups and families, clean, spacious, modern and relaxed. I enjoyed the red wine poached pear salad it had lots of delicious elements from the pecan crunch to the savory and sweet pear. I think the beer flights are so cute and clever (they come in a small metal container that looks like a ski lift). Love the apres ski theme! Their boozy fall cocktails are a hit- fall apple cider mule and boozy White Russian betch are the perfect cozy fall hug! Wish they had them on the menu all year long. The wings are juicy, meaty, tangy flavorful sauces although pricey ($16 a set). The pizzas are huge but a little bit undercooked/ mis proportioned. The margherita pizza had so much sauce that the pizza was slightly undercooked and saggy when a slice was lifted. There was too much sauce but not enough cheese as some of the slices would have just one teeny tiny cheese slice! Proof was in the pudding when we were rolling the slices into little pizza taquitos because it just fell apart into mush from pan to plate. To open for service and not have chicken, when half your menu is chicken based dishes, is one of the stupidest things i have ever heard! Then to have your front of house staff tell customers that the chicken went bad over the weekend and no one was there to prep your kitchen for service is the cherry on the top!! This is my second time here. First time was for a Yelp event and that was pretty cool. The brewers and staff were great. We were looking for a fun place to take some family from out of town and when you have a couple of kids this is a great spot for adults with family. There is a large cafeteria style eating area, lots of outdoor seating and a bar area for adults only. They even have a kids area to help keep your little ones entertained. I've been to Schussboom Brewing quite a few times now and really enjoy this place, their food and beer are both great. It's one of the best breweries in town! Nice and clean brewery on the outskirts kinda make me doubt if we were going the right way lol Upon walking in, it felt so inviting. You have to order your beer, go seat yourself, than choose what you want to order (you'll have to scan the menu code at the table), go back in line to order and then when they call your name, you have to go to the pick-up area. This is far different than what I've usually experienced at a brewery in the past. I was told that sometimes they bring your food to you. I ordered a build it yourself pizza and it's large enough for two people. If you're a yelper, don't forget to check-In to receive your free garlic parm fries. Your choice of fries or tater tots.
