I actually found this place on Yelp. We were in the neighborhood, looking for some brunch, and Scramblers was only a few minutes away and good for kids. When we found it, we saw right away it was just a neighborhood diner, which is always a good call. We were there kind of late, maybe close to noon on a Saturday. We didn't have to wait long for a table, they just had to clean one off for us. I ordered the veggie egg white omelet, my son had a Mickey Mouse pancake, and my husband had a custom omelet and a side of hash browns. I expected everything to come out in typical diner fashion, loaded with grease. Surprisingly, it wasn't. Even the hash browns were only slightly oily. There was really nothing fancy about the food, but it was all good, reasonably priced and came out quickly. I don't know if we'd go out of our way to come back (only because brunch is a tough competition in Providence), but if we were in the neighborhood, we'd definitely stop by again. read more

I just wanted a simple breakfast with some perfect toast. Well, I got it here. 3 eggs, some bacon, perfectly toasted white toast, and some tomato slices. The place was clean and the server was nice and attentive. Points off for the way it smells though. I know it's an old place but they could update the carpet and paint the walls and ceiling to get rid of the old toilet water smell. I'm a person who is very sensitive to smells and considered taking my food to go because of the odor. Otherwise a great meal. read more

I had nice breakfast on May 31st. There was no wait at all. The servers are good about getting the tables flipped but never rush the customers. I came in without my own drinks. (To the ignorant reviewer below complaining about not being allowed to bring in your own drinks, please let me know what restaurants allow me to bring in my own drinks. Spoiler alert: none. That's a RI Department of Health violation.) I ordered coffee, toast, home fries, bacon and eggs. The bacon was crispy, just the way love it. It was excellent. This place was disgusting. I ordered a fried egg and it was a mushy puddle. My home fries were barely cooked and cold. The sausage was the worst sausage I've ever eaten in my life with absolutely no flavor. My toast was cold and looked like it wasn't even toasted. Save your money and go elsewhere read more

Basic diner-esque food but excellent for all that. My wife and I came for the first time today. There was an error on Yelp; this location closes at 2pm on Sundays (not 3) but the waitress said it was fine and our food came out both quickly and delicious! I got a Monte Cristo sandwich, hashbrowns, coffee, soda and side of bacon. My wife got Apple Cinnamon pancakes, tea and also a side of bacon and a side of strawberries. They were out of white bread so I got wheat instead, and that worked out nicely; it was very good. And kinda huge, too. No shortage of turkey, ham nor cheese. My wife loved her pancakes, but offered one caveat: it was a apple-pie-filling kind of apple-cinnamon topping and there was plenty of it (no small portions here!) but it's quite "dense" and "heavy". Tasty to be sure, but if you like your pancakes light and fluffy, try a different topping. If you like 'em "hearty" then this is perfect for you. Bacon in both cases was good. If you like your bacon dry and crispy you might be a bit disappointed. Ours skewed more on the "meaty, slightly chewy and a bit greasy" spectrum of properly cooked bacon. I personally love that, but YMMV. The hashbrowns were basically McDonald's-style "pressed rectangle" fryolater hashbrowns but whatever, they were cooked right and tasted yummy. (and it's amazing how many places screw up something as basic as hashbrowns...no problem with that here!) I'm pretty sure the side-dish strawberries were originally frozen; they had that taste to 'em that says "frozen fruit". Eh, I don't mind; they taste good to me. Again, it could be because we showed up so late in the day that they were out of fresh fruit? Best of all, it was like $32 for all this food. I gave a really nice tip since the waitress was very nice and accommodating of us. I'm not sure this'll be our go-to diner place (we have several options on our personal list) but we'll definitely come back again at some point. read more

The one star I did give is because of the service. The food was awful. Ordered two eggs dry wheat toast and home fries. Received toast bathed in butter. By the time I got dry toast the eggs were cold (and toast not cut). Home fries were not cooked well. Not cooked on top, burnt at the bottom. My bf ordered bacon that was not cooked well either. We also ordered hash brown (supposed to be two per order) we only got one. It was barely cooked, in dirty grease might I add. Then the server got us the second hash brown and the second one was burnt. Needless to say We left hungry. It's a shame I used to come here all the time, I haven't in about a year, I guess since the new chef started. Bring the old chef back or get rid of this one!!! read more

I agree! Scramblers is always good. The staff are always nice. It is amazing. I have tried other places that have been nationally reviewed and they aren't half as good as this place! Plus they have such a diverse breakfast menu with great prices that you can't go wrong! read more

I order from this scramblers quite a few times early in the morning. Today I called in to order breakfast for myself for pickup. When searching the restaurant online, it says they open at 6:30am. Yelp states they open at 7am. I called at 7:10am to place an order and the person who answers the phone (male with heavy accent) was super rude. Never have I called this place and have dealt with such a moron. I asked nicely if I could place the order and right away he just says how long can you be here (without me even placing anything yet) then proceeds to ask what I want (rushing me and with an attitude) I'm reading off of the online menu which says "breakfast special" and he proceeds to argue with me that what I'm saying is not it but I'm looking at his menu. He has an attitude as soon as he answers the phone and continues to cut me off every-time I'm trying to explain to him what I want. When I get through the first order he says it's going to take "a minute" to do home fries . He also says they don't open until 7:30am and he tells everyone this. I'm sorry but that's not my problem , he could've just said we're closed right now please call back at 7:30am. Everything I asked for was a problem on the phone and I promise you, I won't be coming back to Scramblers wether it's to eat in or eat out (which like I said, I've done before plenty of times). The service was ridiculous and a customer shouldn't have to deal with asshole energy early in the morning. This person should really work on their customer service . IF I COULD GIVE THE SERVICE I RECEIVED TODAY A NEGATIVE RATING , I WOULD! Unfortunately the lowest rating I could give is 1 star but I wouldn't even go there. read more

This small diner has some of best food my family ever tasted. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere of the place is very down to earth. Food quality is very good with the prices of the menu is very reasonable. The special the posted daily is enough to entice any food lover craving. I love Scramblers!! I love that they serve breakfast and lunch, and the tuna melt on texas toast is the best I've ever had! It feels cozy, the prices are totally reasonable and the staff is so friendly! My friend and I went for breakfast last weekend and sat for three hours catching up, the waitress was so nice and just kept telling us to stay at long as we wanted and kept refreshing our drinks. I'll definitely go back, probably this weekend!! read more

Food here is excellent. Typically mom and pop diner atmosphere. Came here with a few friends on a Saturday morning. It was not crowded, so we came in and sat right down. I had the kielbasa and cheese omelet which was delicious. The waitress was very friendly and they were around with the coffee whenever someone needed a refill. They even had pumpkin spice coffee. We had one late person who came after the check but the waitress was happy to start another check for him when he arrived. Prices were reasonable and portions were good. I definitely recommend coming here for a nice breakfast. read more

Very happy to find a place close enough to Providence that doesn't break the bank during breakfast hours! And they offer breakfast all day. The service is good and the food comes out quickly. I wanted to try a little bit of everything so I ordered eggs (done exactly the way I asked-over medium!), bacon (cooked perfectly as well), sausage (links-not a fan), multigrain toast, and homefries (love the onion-y flavor and they were done crispy on the bottom and not too big). We split the oreo pancake special topped with strawberries and chocolate sauce. Pancakes delicious but on the smaller side, which is fine because they were thicker than I usually like. Only complaint is the strawberries aren't fresh. That's a no, no in my book. Also tried an order of the texas cut french toast and it was definitely a good portion of 6 thick slices. Again, topped with strawberries that weren't fresh. Asked for a grilled corn muffin, which was good just a little dry, but nothing butter couldn't help. Coffee refills are constant. It is not the strongest coffee at all, but a decent flavor. Random comment on that: tiny coffee cups. Overall, prices are VERY fair and food is great! read more

Went for breakfast here for the first time, it will be our last. The mildew smell alone should have told me to leave but we stayed, waited forever to get served, didn't have place settings until we ask as our food was coming out, food was terrible, eggs were like water, home fries burnt and the bacon and sausage had no flavor, one of us ordered corn beef and hash and it was definitely out of a can, the bathroom was gross, water stains on the ceilings throughout the place, just very old and not kept up with. Over priced for the service and taste of food we got. We will never go back there. read more

I've been here a few times now and each time was good. I love their homefries and really enjoy the cozy feeling. Every time I've been there, there was hardly a wait and I was served very quickly. Plus, they are really good at keeping the coffee topped up! Always a plus in my book. I enjoy everything about the place except one thing, the parking. Be ready to squeeze into a spot once it opens up because space is limited. Only thing keeping this place from a full five stars! Went this past week and, as always, their menu was full of unique breakfast choices. They have a board, sometimes 2 boards, with specials written on them above the counter - each with perhaps 6 items. This is my favorite thing about Scramblers is the creative flare they take with their menu looking to find tasty combinations to put some variation in life. The shaved steak & egg burrito & coconut pumpkin pancakes caught my egg this time, although each visit has something new. Friendly layout, clean, not expensive, prompt service add to the overall appeal. When I am in the area I try to stop and have not been disappointed. read more

This place is awesome to go to if you're looking for a quick bite! They have amazing waitresses that have great manners and so much patience when it comes to ordering their food. Their food is not extravagant so if you're looking for something that's quick and cheap but decent and fresh then come here! Love their homefries and their Fish and chips are delicious, this i can tell you for sure is fresh. If you're looking for the heavily beer battered type, this is the place to go. Crunchy and soft on the inside, lacks a bit of seasoning but that's why it comes with tartar sauce and black pepper and salt packets! The short: Quick service. Quick and good food. Very friendly staff. -- The long: I was tempted to give this a 4 star, only because the pancakes were slightly denser than I personally like them, and the sausage was slightly tougher than juicy. However, with all that said everything was very good. Immediately greeted even though was a busy Saturday morning (10:45). The bus girl quickly got us a table and invited us to sit down. Within a minute we were greeted by our friendly waitress and offered drinks. Food came out quickly and was very good. We were offered more coffee twice, the second time was AFTER we paid. Not pleased with my latest visit here even though I have enjoyed it in the past. I ordered the eggs Benedict with spinach, I asked for the eggs med-well, I know that sounds a little weird but I prefer them not that runny. It came out fast, which is good for breakfast but too fast is a bad sign. My eggs were extremely runny and the spinach was frozen with no salt or pepper at all. I said to the person I was with " Just imagine instead a lot of frozen spinach just a handful of wilted baby spinach with some salt, it would be so much better." We also split a pancake and the waitress brought what she said was butter and it was obv margarine which I don't mind with some things, but not with a pancake. Pancakes are meant to be savory and well, margarine on a pancake just makes it greasy! Needless to say, two breakfasts, two coffees, a side of sausage, a pancake and THIRTY DOLLARS later we will NOT be going there ever again! Just a few stars for the waitress bc she was nice, the coffee was always filled and she wished us a Happy Fathers Day! But for a fraction of the cost I can make what we had and it would be enjoyed, instead of feeling like I had a brick in my stomach all day.
