The photos of the menu items should be the same as what you get. Also the prices are way too high for sandwiches. Poor customer service also. I ordered a philly cheesesteak sandwich based on the picture. what I got was some roast beef on a hot dog bun. For $8.99 (yeah).When I said "why doesn't this look like the picture?" They lady said "oh Pepsi sent us those we don't make our food to look like that". When I told her i didn't want it and wanted my money back she got all snippy, making remarks to the other person working there. The food that was served was not what was represented on the menu board. They should have given me a refund and tried to make me happy. I was not rude, but they were. I will not be going back. Prices are also way too high for sandwiches. I don't know what they are thinking. read more

Whenever we spend some time here in Balboa Park, this is where I get my Seattle's Best. Besides that they have Dreyers Ice Cream, Smoothies & Shakes, Paninis, Sandwiches, Burgers and the Chicago Dog. Very convenient when you spend your time on the grass area or beach and you want to get a quick snack before you Bar B Q in the park or walk to one of the many restaurants you can find here. read more

The Food - Nothing big. Standard fair eggs and ham in a wrap. Eggs and ham in a croissant. I was the only one there and it took 20 minutes to do this. I order ham an eggs, I get ham and bacon. (overcooked) I asked specifically for Chai tea latte 3 times, she then tells me oh, we don;t have any(after waiting the 20 minutes). So I order hot chocolate. Makes it with water and syrup. Water..... Now there may have ben some whipped cream in there. Maybe... Threw most of it out. I do not understand if you run a business like this how you can stay afloat. Times are tough for us all and if we vote with our money, I would never return here. I will try to be more positive about the experience. The place was clean. read more

Ordered a double scoop of Thrifty iced cream on a cone today. The cone was a lil stale and the ice cream had a few freezer burn chips in it. Over all though itvwas a decent rocky road treat. I also got a lil baggy of salt water taffy-which all in all totalled $8.65. A bit steep and I would complain if it wasn't right off the pier. read more

Nice people run this place and they are trying hard, I can tell. But for the price, the portions are tiny. For example, we ordered a full order of fries and the little bag was half empty. The Pastrami sandwich had very little meat on it and the burgers were small and lacked character. This place is trying to sell everything anyone would possibly crave. Therefore they do a mediocer (at best) job on everything. The Ice cream was good, but how can you screw that up? The prices are steep. Not worth your trouble. For what we spent there on 2 burgers, fries and ice cream we would have been better off going to BJ's a few yards away. read more

Sounds like a great place to eat. So of course, my friend and I decide to try it. The people are really nice, and they are quick. However, I don't want to pay almost $7 for a sandwich I can make at home. I like that they put pesto on their sandwiches, it gives them a nice flavor, but it doesn't make up for the fact that I paid $7 for a small sandwich. I mean if it came with chips or some sort of side item no problem. Not only that, but I told them not to toast my sandwich and they still did. The bread is thin like the kind that you would buy at home, which with the all the dressing and fixings the bread doesn't hold up. They definitely need to use thicker bread. ANYWAYS, to make a long story longer, their sandwiches aren't all that great. They have gelato and smoothies which I haven't tried, but you can't go wrong with gelato....hopefully lol. The food was great, and the service was good. Got my stuff quick and the location was very convienent close to the beach! I see alot of people complaining about the price of the food... ITS THE BEACH PEOPLE... ive owned a buisness my self and know how much the rent is... If you want cheaper food, then next year there wont be any cafes or food places at the beach... and you would stave! The sign in the window says 1.85 for a medium coffee. I go inside and the guy working there says 1.85 for a medium coffee. Guy comes back and says 2.45 for the medium coffee, I ask why and he says because he was going to make it fresh. I end up with old coffee and pay the 1.85, not impressed. I don't know if that's store policy or what, but I'm not paying an extra fee so that someone can do what they should have done for "free" in the first place. read more

The food here isn't great, but it's more of a deli meets cafe kind of place. As someone who's lived in NYC I wasn't expecting some super fancy food. The staff was really friendly. I asked for a modification that was not able to be met but luckily the manager was there to give the okay. I probably will come here again for a quick bite or snack, if I'm in the area. read more

Yesterday we went biking to Balboa island (Newport Beach) in morning, and were looking for good breakfast. We found this place open that was right on the boradwalk, and asked for Omelette. Although it was not on the menu, they made wonderful omelettes for all of us. Very nice service and reasonable price. Would definitely go there again with my friends. read more

Just reading the silly comments regarding prices...How much should a sandwich cost on the beach in Newport ? Go to any resort and look at prices. I don't know about the food quality but 8 dollars is not a lot for a privately owned café. Go to 7 -11 and buy a premade disaster for 5.I'm just a regular person but do you see how much food costs in the supermarket ? Go ahead and make it yourself and see how much it costs. TERRIBLE SERVICE. I came with 4 of my friends, and we waited in line for about 2 minutes, waiting for the cashier to finish his conversation with someone outside. The cashier was extremely rude, and as I stuck my hand out to receive my change, he slammed it on the table. (no wonder there wasn't any change in the tip jar.) he took a total of 10 minutes to start our drinks. I literally parked 1 minute away from this place, and luckily I had 30 minutes on the meter because when I got back, I had 2 minutes left. Oh, and I watched the man make the food with his bare hands. My husband and I went in here looking for a couple of sandwiches to bring down to the beach with us. He ordered a turkey sandwich and I ordered the Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich. The guy who took our order (seemingly the owner) said, "Do you want the combo?" We said, "Sure," thinking that it would come with fries and a drink. When he brought us our order, we got our sandwiches and a soda. I said, "Aren't there fries with this? I said specifically to the guy that I wanted french fries with our order to which he replied, "Fries doesnt come with the combo, just a soda." Really? SUPER FRIENDLY STAFF! Very welcoming. It's so convenient to have such a wide variety of foods and drinks on their menu right next to the pier. After an early morning ride from Irvine to the beach, we stepped in here for a breakfast. Were delighted with the made-to-order fluffy omelette, toast and latte for everyone in the group. Service was excellent and best of all all for just about $8 per person! New owner for the place is running the right way. Loved it! read more

I came here with a few of my friends during the evening. They were the only coffee shop open in the area around 8pm so we figured we would get a few lattes and they were fantastic! Tasted even better than starbucks and the prices weren't bad either. I had the white chocolate mocha and I highly recommend it. Definitely coming back soon to try their food read more

I agree that the food is overpriced for what you get, but I do realize that it is the beach. However, I had a pretty bad experience this last time I went. I ordered a chicken burger, the chicken fingers, an order of fries and a coke, and it cost $20...not the most unreasonable, but still more than what I expected to pay once I got the food and saw it was small portions. What really made me angry was that they only give you a half filled little cup of ranch for the chicken fingers which is used up after the 1st finger. So I went in and asked for another cup, and the owner came over with an angry tone telling me that I only get the one that came with my meal. I said that it was only half way filled and he yelled at me "No!...if you want more, go to McDonalds!" He kept saying how people from the beach always come in there asking for ketchup and ranch and he just won't do it. There were customers waiting in line behind me so I stood my ground and said that since I just paid him $20, I expect an extra tiny little cup of dressing isn't that unreasonable. And he didn't even give me the option to pay for another one. (I've been to places that have it posted that it's another 25¢ or whatever), but he didn't offer that either! So I persisted and finally he yelled at his employee to give me more just to get me out of his restaurant...man...that was lame! I'll never go there again! read more
