From what we ordered, get the chorizo breakfast burrito and not the sausage burrito (it lacked flavor). The half order of turkey and cheese with a cup of tomato basil was not worth $16. Worst customer service I've had in a long time. It was as though everyone working here did not want to be here. I'm sure many people don't like their jobs, but you could at least pretend to when you're around customers. No one smiled or made much eye contact. My order was deleted or forgotten and I stood there for 15 minutes waiting for my coffee. I had to ask for it and even then it took another 5-ish minutes just to get to my order I placed 20 minutes prior. And they were not that busy, so I could only imagine how awful they are during peak hours. Scratch Bakery Cafe is a miserable establishment. I will never come here again. Although the baked goods looked delicious and the menu looked good, the service was pretty terrible. I ordered a lemonade and the guy working the cash register was sick, coughing and sneezing and touching everything (including my lemonade). Then, I ordered a sandwich and they said they would bring it to my number. They never did and I kept waiting. Came to Scratch for an early morning breakfast. Chose one of their breakfast sandwiches, which are served on their house-baked English muffins. It was like eating a better version of McDonald's McMuffins. I don't feel great after eating McDonald's, but the sausage breakfast sandwich from Scratch was not greasy or heavy at all. I bought three cookies: lemon, snickerdoodle, and oatmeal almond. The lemon was lacking in flavor and on the dry side; it even had a greenish gray spot on it that looked like mold or like it fell on the ground. The snickerdoodle and oatmeal ones tasted fine but nothing I'm dying to come back for. The table we sat at needed to be wiped down. I was hesitant to try their coffees. Service was okay. I want to add that none of the tables available were clean so I had to wipe one down with a towelette which I carry in my bag. Also want to add that I did tell a young man at the cash register about the condition of my miserable salad and he looked at me and just shrugged his shoulders; no comment from him or any offers to refund or give me another salad to make up for the one I could not eat. I've made purchases at both the Newport Beach and Laguna Hills locations for several years but this was the first time I ordered a lunch to eat on the premises. I wont do that again. Why are we trusting you when you don't appear serious? Cappuccino should have been the signature cup of what you had to offer...had to ask for a plastic cup over paper. This place has the greatest location in Fashion Island! This is a bakery and Coffee and they serve pretty healthy sandwich choices. We got poached eggs and Turkey Sandwich from food menu and a cappuccino and cortado from coffee choices. All very well tasted, the bread was so fresh I could only each that and be happy but even the inside was better. Very light dressing and the turkey tastes very marinated. Lot's of outside sitting area and perfect grab and go if you are only there for shopping. Overall I really did enjoyed their quality of products and will go back there soon:) read more

I was running errands around fashion island, and randomly saw this cute little bakery. Natalia greeted me as soon as I walked in, happily answered all of my questions, and gave good recommendations on what to buy. She was super kind and helpful. Anyhow, I brought the goods home, and was pleasantly surprised by how good everything was. The staff were so busy but still took time to help each customer out. Their Monte Cristo Sandwich was very delicious, very warm and crispy. I loved the flavor with the maple syrup and the hash brown was so crispy... just perfect! I would definitely get this again. The Breakfast Sandwich was so big and fluffy! The English muffin was excellent. The bacon was flavorful and smoky and the eggs were fluffy and smooth. I was a big fan of the Iced Lavender Milk Tea was great as well; the lavender flavor was prominent and overall very tasty. Unpictured but the chocolate croissant was excellent! The mild green salsa was so addicting and they give you a large plastic container of it, so it's unlikely you will run out. Unfortunately, the hot vanilla latte with almond milk wasn't very tasty. It tasted mostly like milk and you could hardly taste the espresso - it almost seems like they didn't even put a shot in. And barely any vanilla flavor. Tip: For quick access, park near Neiman Marcus. This is not a good place to do work/schoolwork. I'm so glad I tried this place. I had been craving a good breakfast burrito and luckily the menu options at this restaurant are wide enough to satisfy. I ordered one with sausage, eggs and cheese and was not disappointed! The tortilla is soft, ingredients are fresh and the salsa was AMAZING. I don't handle spicy/hot very well (usually going for mild) and the salsa that came with the burrito had a burst of flavor but just enough heat to not make my throat burn but still made my nose run a little. So so good. I also ordered a hot white mocha which was good (kind of hard to mess up coffee). Service was pretty fast considering they were crowded on a saturday morning (every table was taken). As for the ambiance, it was pretty loud inside because it was crowded but there's a small outdoor space and even tables out across the way by the fountain that you can sit at.
