This is in Fashion Island near Neiman Marcus and R+D Kitchen. Came for a quick bakery bite! While they have hot drinks and hot breakfast options I really just wanted a scone. Ginger peach scone was tasty though a little "bready." It would pair nicely with a nice breakfast coffee! Ample seats outside and indoors. read more

This is hands down my favorite café! I always pair my coffee with their incredible pastries (pictured here are the fruit tart, cream puff, and strawberry croissant). Their coffee is absolutely delicious - rich, perfectly balanced, and naturally sweet. The pastries and baked goods complement the coffee beautifully. My family have been customers of Scratch since they opened. Today 2/27, Check 139. I dealt with the worst hostess, with a horrible condescending attitude I have ever seen in this restaurant. I ordered two almond croissants, one coffee and one orange juice. My husband and I like the croissants heated, I asked this hostess EllieT to please heat them three times in the microwave. I asked her this while ordering. , she heated them once, put in a bag and pushed them at me on the counter, with both drinks, I asked for a tray, she just said, you can have a plate and dumped the croissants out of the bags on a plate and pushed them at me with her eyes rolling. A gentleman came to the table with the drinks as I could not carry everything, He took the croissants back to reheat as they were cold. He was very apologetic. Worst waitress ever with a poor attitude, like she was annoyed I was asking for something she did not want to do?.? Will go to Ralph's from now on, they appreciated the order and new customers. sandwich review only We got the pot roast dip and the Turkey avocado, both with potato salad. They were so good. I think the pot roast sandwich was the better one, the meat was tender and the bread was super soft. My husband loved it a lot. I got the Turkey avocado with sourdough and thought it was good too. I love the freshness. Their potato salad is also excellent. I highly recommend for a quick bite. They have some tables outside that are dog friendly! read more

Came here casually on a Monday holiday and it was pretty consistently busy with people getting in and out frequently. Placed my order at the front and went with the breakfast sandwich as I had read a sign in store that they were famous in OC for their English muffins. After eating my breakfast sandwich I could see why. The English muffin was SO GOOD. It was also great with hot eggs cheese and bacon. I also got a latte which was a little more underwhelming but the sandwich made up for it. 10/10 for the sandwich. This is inside the mall so parking near R+D kitchen would be best. They also sell the English muffins in 6 pack and I saw they just came out with an everything bagel seasoning English muffin. I'll be back to try that! read more

Made a rare trip,to Fashion Island for a suit order. Since we were early wifey and I decided to grab a quick eat. Scratch Bakery Cafe was a great option. The bread for my egg and cheese is phenom. I say its like a muffin from that place with a clown, times ten. Light with a fine corn meal dusting, american cheese melting just right. Wifey had a spiced chai and almond croissant that she enjoyed tremendously and kept her satisfied until dinner time. FYI is you use Yelp for directions they will take you to the wrong spot. The cafe is on the other side of Bloomingdale's. Just a minute walk - you'll find it. read more

Ordered a nitro cold brew and honey lavender latte. Drinks came out suspiciously quick but no complaints there. Nitro had ice in it and looked like a regular cold brew. Asked barista if this was right and he rolled his eyes. Worst drink I've ever tried. Somehow this "nitro" was sour from underextraction and yet the coffee was stale. Really impressive that they can make a coffee this terrible. I think the barista fell asleep on the sweetener pump for the latte, also very bad. Very impressed that this place is still in business with the entitled employees they have. Pretty rude and lazy. Better off drinking from the nearby fountain at fashion island! read more

Man o man where to start.... We are visiting from another state and wanted to find a cool spot for breakfast and came across Scratch Bakery Cafe, get some breakfast and maybe a few treats for the hotel room. Pete greeted us and was so awesome, he explained some of their items and when he said they were known for their English muffinsI thought, that is something you don't hear often, so naturally we had to get the breakfast sandwiches to try the English muffins and I'm going to be seeing if he will start mailing me some back to Utah they were so good! We picked out the Apple Tart and the dolce de leche cheesecake to have there with our sandwiches and holy crap the flavors were amazing, the cheesecake texture was phenomenal! We had them load us up with some of their favorites. We have been trying all the treats since leaving there and the knock knock(ding dong) was crazy good, the strawberry croissant was light and flaky, the oatmeal almond chocolate chip cookie, snickerdoodle, and chocolate chip cookies couldn't have been any better, and for the chocolate lovers the chocolate decadence has so much rich flavor, I'm normally not a huge chocolate guy but between the different layers and flavors, it's a must have. Over all this place marks off everything someone could want with great food, drinks, and desserts! Must try if you are anywhere near Newport Beach! Oh and get the snack mixes for the ride home! Great little homemade mix of all your favorite things. read more

a perfectly toasted pumpkin danish, somehow in seconds! it was so flakey, and the pumpkin filling tasted like pumpkin pie - perfectly salty and sweet, flavorful but not too heavy. the strawberry croissant was adorable and also reasonably priced. the staff was kind and no frills in the interaction, in a cool and efficient way. the cold brew was pleasantly strong and not watered down. there was ample seating on this lovely morning, both indoor and outdoor. i would totally come here again and try more things, including food! read more

We just had breakfast here this morning . I must say I've never been treated so poorly in my life . We ordered and were given complete attitude from the tall girl taking orders. I said thank you and no response from her, just a scowl. She delivered our food and basically tossed it down rudely . I asked for silverware and was told I wasn't aware that you needed any . I'm not sure if it was because we are a biracial couple or it's because she's a miserable human being . We frequently come to Newport Beach and we will NEVER come back . I stopped by Scratch in the afternoon for a quick bite. The place was packed, so there was a bit of a wait to place my order. I went with an iced latte and the Grilled Tuna Melt. The staff was friendly and welcoming, which was a plus. The sandwich comes with a side, but if you want fries, it's an extra $2. Since it was so busy, there was some confusion about the line. Standing near the tables where people were eating felt a little awkward, especially as we tried to stay out of the way while making it clear we weren't in line anymore. The Grilled Tuna Melt was fantastic--crispy on the outside and packed with flavor from the mayo, tuna, and gooey melted cheese. The iced latte, however, was underwhelming. That said, I'd definitely come back to try more sandwiches. I also couldn't help but notice the cinnamon twist in the display case--it looked delicious and is on my list for next time! read more

3.5 stars Something happened to their breakfast sandwich: it shrunk in size and it got increasingly very expensive. The breakfast sandwich comes with their signature English muffin. You get your choice of cheese - cheddar for me, and your choice of protein - sausage for me. What I liked about the breakfast sandwich before was how fluffy and hefty their signature English muffin used to be - it was homey because it felt like it was baked in house and this justified the cost of the sandwich. Now at nearly $10 bucks and deflated in size + quality, it doesn't seem like such a solid choice for breakfast anymore. read more

I grabbed a coffee and a pastry here after my workout. The coffee was good. The highlight though was the strawberry filled croissant that I had. It was a little small for the price, but it was really delicious and satisfying. My friend got the chocolate coconut croissant and loved it. That was a good size. I think this is a great bakery and coffee shop and way better than chain. I will be back. read more

I frequent Scratch Bakery at Fashion Island pretty often as I am there a lot- I keep going back because every time it's great- whether it's just for a coffee break- their lattes are awesome- or for lunch- it's consistently good! Shout out to Sam who helps with great recommendations!! Their yogurt parfait is amazing- they truly must make the yogurt from scratch because it is so creamy and delicious! Maple Leaf Farms Duck Breast - I really enjoyed this dish and was very comforting while not being too heavy. Spiced NZ Rack of Lamb - I believe this is a signature dish and was great without being gamey. Overall, really solid dishes and I was pleasantly surprised. The waitstaff was also great.

When I asked for one, she spent a moment at the screen and then told me she couldn't print it because she had already closed out my tab. I was confused why 1) she didn't give me a receipt in the first place, then 2) she decided that was the only solution - to tell me it could not be done. After I asked her to find a solution as I needed a copy of the receipt, she finally asked her colleague beside her, who pointed her to the right place, and, voila, the receipt was printed. Leading with "I can't" is never the right customer service instinct, especially for something as basic as a receipt. I also tried to buy the butter they import from France. I stood at the case for several minutes with no acknowledgment. I finally walked over to the nearest employee (her name was Lucy) who was finishing up with a customer at the register right next to the butter section. I politely asked if she could help me when she was free. She looked at me, nodded, and said she would. Then proceeded to assist every customer who lined up behind that original customer without once glancing back in my direction. In fact, I had enough time to walk to the bakery, go through the entire gift card situation as mentioned above, and return to the butter section, and Lucy still hadn't looked over. I left without the butter. Moulin used to have fantastic service. I don't know where those regulars went, but two strikes in one visit, with two different employees, is hard to brush off.

I stumbled upon Scratch Bakery Cafe during a recent work trip to Newport Beach, and what a fantastic find it was! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the delicious smell of freshly baked pastries and coffee. The cafe has a wonderfully cozy and inviting atmosphere, perfect for a relaxing morning. What really made my visit stand out was the exceptional customer service, specifically from Peter. Absolutely despicable. I went in with my wife ordered coffee drinks for my family and waited with number outside was never given our drinks went inside and was told someone else had picked them up. Not to mention all of the dirty plates around my table area which attracted numerous amounts of birds which was extremely irritating. The food was so bad. My kid had the ham and cheese croissant and threw up in the car an hour later. I recently visited Scratch Bakery. I had a wonderful experience. As soon as i walked in the smell of baked items and the wonderful scent of coffee had me wanting to try everything. The coffee was delicious rich and smooth. I also tried a few pastries which included the Knock Knocks. I can't wait to go back and try the other flavors. Stopped by this new bakery to have lunch and ordered the BLT sandwich. Unfortunately, the bacon had a really weird taste. I let my brother try a strip and he said the same thing. He's worked in the restaurant industry in the past and mentioned some places will reheat cooked bacon and serve it to their guests. Very disappointed with such as basic sandwich that was WAAAY overpriced.
