Well, we've tried to eat here three times. Last strike, you're out. First time we ordered to go via phone (that all they have) and was told I had to prepay because "we're not sure you're going to pick it up". Wow, that speaks volumes about the ownership. Second time we waited 6 minutes at the counter to order while young lady was dealing with her cell phone. We left. Today, tried to get a to-go order, was ready to deal with the "at least 20 minute because it's real fresh" wait. Asked to hold the slaw as I cannot eat cabbage. To get an alternative side, +$1.50. So, $11 for 2 pieces, one side and no slaw. It was lunchtime and one person was in dining room. I left again. I've heard the chicken was pretty good, but not worth the mandatory 20 minute wait. I see this restaurant fairly busy every time i go to the gas station beside it. I love looking for new chicken tenders. I went to the restaurant an hour before closing, they only allowed togo orders at that time and the other customers were finishing up eating inside while we waited on our food. Had to give it 3 stars because I was honestly so upset at how little the girl at the register knows about the food in the restaurant... where she works. I specifically asked if the potato salad had any bacon or pork, she said no without hesitation, and I nearly vomited after the first bite... bacon chunks all over, and a nasty flavor. Decided to 'scratch' this list off my today for lunch. There is ample parking and the interior is simple, yet clean. There is not a lot of dining space, but it works. I count 6 4-tops and 2 2-tops. My server was extremely helpful and very friendly. He helped me select between the chicken and side and chicken and waffle. I chose the 2-piece white (double fried) with mac and cheese. I also had a ginger ale. Two of the fountain drink options were out of service...perhaps in need of carbonation. I like that they have quite the assortment of bottled beverages, including beer. My food took about 15 minutes and was served to me. My first impression of the meal is that there is no way I can eat this huge chicken breast. Lol! Also, I notice that my order is a little off. I asked to sub the slaw for mac. I think I was charged for mac instead. I hate the look of slaw so off to the side it went. The mac and cheese was decent. Huge kudos to Scratch for serving baked mac though. The chicken actually did not wow me. The Korean Glaze sauce was just okay. I think I would try ranch or garlic herb next time and go with wings as opposed to whole chicken. I was hoping for a Bonchon Chicken taste but this isn't it. The chicken was moist though and that is a plus. There is a hint of spice that I did not care for either. For me, after a few bites of the chicken breast, I knew I wasnt going to finish it. The sauce taste was not appetizing to me and the little kick to it was aggravating. The good news is that my husband will devour this once I return home with my leftovers. I did visit the bathroom and I am happy to report that it is quite clean. It is a solo bathroom with plenty of space. I did sit in a awkward place near the door and that sucked. It was breezy out and I caught every bit of it when customers left. I did not realize there was an entrance near me when I chose this seat. There weren't any vacant seats for me to change to either. My family has descended on my parents who live NW of Greensboro for an extended period due to Covid restrictions on other travel. It has actually been a nice period to just spend extended time with family. Anywyay, my son was searching for hot chicken and we ended up giving Scratch a try. Well, many many tries and the results have been outstanding. Seriously, we have made the 35 minute drive (each way) at least twice a week since we arrived in mid December and every time the sandwiches have been great. We have also tried tenders and some of the sides. Highly recommned - also, all the staff we have encountered have been fully masked and very friendly. Jesus Christmas...my chubbygirl dreams came true with this place. The fried chicken is amazing. I got the two piece dark flour dredge though friends said I made a mistake and should have ordered the double fried. I tried the Korean glaze & siracha honey.. Both delicious....but my bf got the Nashville and helllloooooo mummy. That's insanely good. Super quick to order and be served. But be careful. That chicken is immediately served coming out of the grease so both pieces stay hot for 15 minutes. Only thing I'd work on is your baked Mac & cheese. You can't claim to master southern food and have that poor a showing of Mac & cheese I'll be back. That Nashville hot is calling my name ! read more

The food is amazing here. The fried Mac and cheese bites were so good and the honey sriracha chicken sandwich was huge. The portion sizes here are all pretty big. The fried ribs were different, but they were great. Not too much sauce so the breading wasn't soggy and the fact that they use tempura batter made the consistency even better. However they close at 7:00 and at 6:22 and then again at 6:30 they told customers that they had to get food to go because it was close to closing time. This place was in one word AMAZING! The staff was extremely courteous, friendly, and attentive to all of of our parties needs. From refilling drinks, to the food and all of our request, they were extremely professional and it was a pleasure dining there. I didn't catch their names but the young lad working the counter and the young man bringing out the food were some of the best servers/hostess I've ever dealt with and will be coming back! Then you can't go wrong when the food is delicious. The honey pecan and the Sriracha spreads were phenomenal and the chicken and waffles were fried and cool to perfection. Unique donut flavors and a super fun concept. The Siracha Fried Chicken on the plain unglazed donut is really good. The chicken is defiantly the star of the dish but the donuts were just okay, not too fluffy and deflated a bit. The chicken is worth the 15min the wait! It was super tender, super juicy! We tried a mixed dozen! & the guy added a extra one for fun. A little pricey @ $18. But these donuts are SPECIAL! They are tender, light, moist, & offer tons of great flavors. So good . I love that they offer a non sweet bun option. Which is their glazed yeast donut w/o the glaze. It's soft & light . Today I gave this establishment a second chance. That should tell people something. The first time I went to Scratch was because I heard such excitement from a local radio station. However, when I got there, Scratch was packed but awkward in ambience. All the nice smells of homemade chicken and biscuits, that you could smell outside of the building, were absent from the physical space which smelled like air and soap. Customers were fairly quiet and metaphorically sitting on their hands as families, friends, and couples picked through their food in mild disappointment. When I arrived the first time, they were short on product and I was deterred from getting their famous chicken because the sign on their board said to wait fifteen minutes for chicken orders. I got an apple fritter that was more Pillsbury cinnamon dough than apple fritter. The donut holes were dry. The second time I went, the bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit was not fully cooked and had to be put in the oven for 15 minutes when I got home. The chicken donut product I got tasted like all of the items layered (but not mixed) together and the donut bread was dry. The cashier was also pretty rude, seemed to be inconvenienced by a take out order, said "what" to me, and they didn't have cup holders. The sample donut holes were also dry. Overall, the concept is good but the execution could use a lot of improvement. It seems like the little slice of home that Scratch is supposed to emulate is nothing more than a pre-fab house with shiny appliances that aren't built to provide the comfort they allude to. I hope this well intentioned store rises to the occasion in the future. Until then, I will not be returning for pricey, soulless breakfast items that I can get from closer and more reasonably priced establishments. read more

Just checked this place out for the first time tonight and I will most definitely be going back. I got a dark chicken and waffle meal and it was above 5 stars. I can't say enough about how much I loved that waffle (I promise you the picture doesn't do it justice). The guy who served us was friendly behind the counter from the start and remained attentive throughout the meal. This is somewhere I will recommend to people moving forward.
