I decided to step out of my comfort zone and do the chicken and waffles I normally never ever eat fried food because it does a number on my stomach in fact before eating this meal I honest to God cannot remember the last time I have fried chicken it has been at least two years maybe longer. I madean honest review for the overall experience and the food I've been served. First, I see a few tables available when we came in but they were reserved. After waiting for 15 minutes I notice a few chairs available on the booth and asked if those are reserved also? Hostess said, no; she didn't asked us if we wanted to sit there in the first place. Second, our meals came which I had the braised pork Benedict: the hollandaise sauce don't have enough salt and pork lack of flavor. I had to add salt and pepper, hot sauce, lime juice, and pico de gallo on my dish to add more flavor. My husband ordered the beef street tacos and his are alright. He said was missing more flavor and ingredients. Lastly, our waitress hardily comes and check on us. We have to flag her down or other servers to help with our needs. My boyfriend and I were not feeling up to cooking so we drove around trying to figure out where to eat. We have always come for brunch and was never disappointed so we decided to drop in for dinner. They have outdoor seating and it was night evening so we opted for that and checked the menus. Our server came after a few minutes and we ordered our drinks and entrees and enjoyed the outside atmosphere. My boyfriend ordered their fried chicken and biscuits with gravy and I ordered the market fish entree. His order came out at a reasonable time and I figured mine would be out soon enough. He waited for my entree but after a while I was concerned his meal would get cold. So I told him to start eating and I took a few bites of it to make him feel better. The chicken was super crispy and the biscuits were very yummy. Not enough gravy though and he ran out before he finished his biscuits. He was almost finished with his meal when my fish finally came out. The food server quickly brought it, said thank you for your patience, and jetted our of there! I was a bit disappointed with how long it took but was grateful it came. However, the fish was dry and over cooked. Totally not what i was expecting from Scratch! I wondered if the cooks were having an off day? Our server came and asked if everything was ok and I couldn't hide my disappointment about my food. Went to Scratch Kitchen with a friend after our latte date. We got seated immediately when we arrived and the service was wonderful, staff are understanding and nice! We ordered the Milk n Cereal pancakes and the House Burger which were both their most popular items! You should definitely try the house burger as it's stacked with 2 patties and comes with crispy potato fries. The pancakes were definitely not my favorite as they were dry and not all that special (I could make this at home!) the only thing that was holding this dish together was the syrup. OMG THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!!! Let me start off by saying I am on vacation and my best friend, who lives on the island, always raves about this place. I checked out the Instagram page first because I always like to see pictures before I order. This place gets crowded so it's best to go when you aren't starving because you'll probably have to wait a while for a seat. My best friend and I decided to order the milk n cereal pancakes AND the sausage shrimp n grits so we could try both dishes. The pancakes are A1 however, very very dense. They soak up any and everything you put on them. They come with a milky, sweet cream but they even soak that up so you have to drench them in syrup so they won't get dry. The shrimp and grits were the best dish I have ever had. I would recommend them to everyone who comes to this place. So full of flavor and taste. No need to even add salt or pepper to the dish. First time here and one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. My friend arrived first and wasn't seated at a table since the whole party wasn't there yet. He asked if he could wait at the counter and he was seated there and given water, then he was asked to order and he said again he was waiting for two others. They then told him he couldn't wait at the counter and had him go back outside to wait. We, 2 others, arrived less than 10 mins of his arrival. The worst part was when we received our drinks and a waitress came over with 3 drinks, we accepted a coffee and did not know what the other drinks were. She walked away and then came back and we said we also ordered a juice, she put down a juice and rudely said, "Well, why didn't you say something?!" We were all shocked that she blamed us for not knowing what the drinks she had were or who they were for, she didn't ask or tell us, and then got upset that we didn't tell her the drink she had was ours even though we had no idea what the drink was. The food came out and was okay but not great, overpriced for the small amount of food, only the pancakes seemed like a bigger portion - I received a small bowl sized amount of Gandule rice and 2 eggs for $20. Overall the staff were unfriendly, rude and acted like they were doing us a favor by being there. I hope management reads this and trains them about customer service because almost everyone who interacted with us needs to learn how to work in a restaurant. read more

I went here a few weeks ago. The place is quite hip. It's clean and very modern looking. I got the shrimp and grits and it was pretty outstanding. I have had grits at legit places on the mainland and these grits were cooked well. They were creamy and cheesy and were really nice. The red eye gravy complimented the green onions and shrimp. Scratch Kitchen has always been my "go to" place for breakfast and lunch. Love their food and drinks. Service was always good and the servers were professional and friendly. I love sitting at the counter and watching them prepare the food. When my boss suggested this place for his annual law department Christmas breakfast, I was ecstatic to try to make it happen. I called them in the morning a day before Thanksgiving. I explained to the host that I wanted to speak to the manager at their convenience and that I wanted to schedule a breakfast sometime in December (any day between the 16th and 22nd) for 20 people. I told her I knew it was Thanksgiving and they were busy so to just have the manager call me at their convenience. She took all my information and explained that they don't take reservations until after 3pm. I told her that was fine. No call back since then and a week has already past. STRIKE 1. I called yesterday (after 3pm) and mentioned that I wanted to make a reservation for a breakfast in December for 20 people and that I could pre-order everyone's breakfast to make it easier for them since we'd have a lot of people coming in all at once. She told me they don't take reservations and that it's a walk-in. Hmmm, their website says, "Reservations available after 3pm daily" and the first host I spoke to says they take reservations after 3pm. She also explained that she wasn't sure if the 20 people could all sit together. I would think if there's a big group coming in and I've made arrangements in advance, they could rope or portion off an area for 20 people. On the pre-ordering, she said I didn't need to do that as they have about 20 workers that could easily get the orders out in a timely manner. I know my boss and I know he doesn't want a long breakfast and with 20 people, I believe it would take a while to get orders out for 20 people all at the same time, especially if there are other customers there too. Anyway, she said she'd speak to the owner and call me back. She didn't seem very accommodating to me. STRIKE 2. I came in to work this morning and there was a call that came in but no voice mail message was left. I knew it was Scratch Kitchen as I could see their number on the caller ID. I would think if they called, they would leave a message if they could accommodate me or not, but no message left. That was STRIKE 3. I am very disappointed as I wanted to have my boss and his colleagues go there because I've talked so highly of this place. I thought this place would be happy to accommodate a large party which would bring in a good profit for an early breakfast. I think this is a sign that I should find somewhere else where they'll want our business. I'm going to have to pass on Scratch Kitchen from here on out. read more

They had nice music playing and one of the waitresses came and checked up on us almost every 5-10 minutes until we got our food. They were on it when it came to making sure everything was ok. We ended up ordering 3 dinner entrees to share family style- Pastrami Egg Benedicts, Shrimp & Grits with sausage, and their famous Milk and Cereal pancakes. The Pastrami Egg Benedict was quite tasty and satisfying, mixing the crisp potatoes with saltiness of the pastrami and creaminess of the hollandaise sauce. The Milk and Cereal pancakes are quite inventive topped with fruit, cereal, and a milk syrup. The Shrimp and Grits were the biggest surprise. Instead of a lot of butter in the grits, SK made it quite a savory dish with sausage and brown gravy over it. I think that was my favorite of the night! I came here because one of my friends recommended it. I got a brunch menu when I came at around 11:30am. For dinner they take reservations, but breakfast and lunch are first come, first serve. I got the BC Burger. It is grass-fed Kauai beef, smoked bacon, aged cheddar, apple slaw, bbq sauce, and potatoes. It was $15. I thought that it was a good amount and quality of food for that price. Fantastic brunch spot with free garage parking but beware of potential long wait times at peak hours. Scratch offers a variety of creative brunch dishes that range from savory to sweet. We decided to do family style, ordering the chilaquiles, haupia creme brûlée French toast, and brussel sprouts as our side. This was quite a lot of food for 2 people. Everything tasted as delicious as it looked, and better! I really don't have any complaints about any of our dishes, except that the chips in the chilaquiles got soggy after a few bites in. Surprisingly so, the brussel sprouts were my favorite!! There is just so much flavor packed in there without it being overpowering. I highly recommend trying this and I would come back for these brussel sprouts alone. The service was alright as it was a bit slow in the beginning and difficult to pin a waiter down, but it got better after most of the tables had cleared.
