@fortunefoodfinds: "CEREAL-sly so fun! My kids highly enjoyed the Milk n' Cereal Pancakes from SCRATCH KITCHEN located at the South Shore Market in Ward Village. Colorful n' not too sweet, this was just the right keiki-friendly breakfast treat!" Staff: fully staffed Interior: spacious, could easily fit our large stroller Exterior: facing playground at Ward Village Wait time: 15 mins Parking: garage Overall comments: the milk n' cereal pancakes surely got the attention of my kids who had fun eating them! A stack of four pancakes n' comes with a milk syrup on the side. For me, syrup was needed bc the pancakes were on the dry side. Way plenty for one, enough to share n' even have leftovers to take home.

A great date night experience! Food was delicious, flavorful and filling. We ordered: Lilikoi bbq ribs - 5/5! The meat was cooked to perfection! It was so tender and fell off the bone. Delicious is an understatement. Highly recommend! Cajun Mac n cheese with bacon - another 5/5! Came out in a skillet, hot and perfectly seasoned. Scratch burger - we asked for medium and got that! The double patty was juicy and I loved the chipotle aioli! Oh! And I can't forget about the rosemary garlic smashed potato fries. Yum! Service was quick! We went around 5 on a Sunday evening and sat down immediately -- there's outdoor tables and tons of seating inside with a view of the kitchen.

We came a bit before noon on a Friday (while on vacation) and although it was pretty busy, there were still a couple tables available. There was plenty of free parking in the shopping plaza parking structure. Our server was very friendly and helpful, although service in general seemed to be a bit slow. I had the Milk and cereal pancakes which were really good, it seemed like the milk they gave on the side was condensed milk which had a nice flavor. My husband had the Korean pulled pork sandwich (I believe it was one of the specials). He liked it but said the Gochujang flavor wasn't as strong as he expected. We also shared the Deep fried devil eggs which were super tasty, and made us wonder how exactly they deep fried the eggs. Overall we had a good brunch here (although some of the menu items seemed a bit pricey).

Wow! I'm extremely amazed by this restaurant. Came here for brunch with my girls and they recommended this restaurant. I loved the opening seating concept and being able to see them prepare your food. They also had outdoor seating. The servers were super attentive to all our needs and made sure we had a pleasant stay throughout our entire visit. I tried a little of everything since I like to eat off everyone's plate & try different dishes at a new restaurant. Everything was delicious and portions were good. I really can't wait to come here again but for their dinner menu instead.

Shrimp po boy. Very little shrimp. Mostly bread and lettuce. Definitely not proportionate. And I was hungry again 2 hours later.

Went on a Sunday for lunch. Was told the wait would be 45 minutes, but got a text message in 25 minutes that a table was ready I like that they had that system set up. It took a while for someone to come and take our order, but that was OK . What really bothered me was the marked difference in time that they brought the dishes out. I ordered shrimp po boy and my friend ordered the burger. I was surprised that they didn't ask how she wanted the burger cooked. When it did finally come it was well done. if you prefer your burger medium, make a point to ask about that. The Po Boy came out pretty fast. My friend's burger came out when I was almost done eating my meal. It's really awkward to only have one dish at the table. Do you wait for the other dish to come and let your food get cold or do you eat while the other person watches you eat? I suspect her burger was given to the table next to us. They were seated after we had placed our orders, but the lady got a burger before everyone else at her table and before my friend got her burger. I regret not ordering the milk and cereal pancakes and perhaps I ordered the wrong thing, but I was really disappointed in the Po Boy. There was so much bread that the filling was inadequate. Lettuce filled most of the bread. There was a stingy scattering of small pieces of battered and fried shrimp and pickled onions sitting atop the mound of lettuce. This is definitely a dish I would not order again. I was hungry again two hours later. I really hoped I would like this place. Maybe I'll try again but with a different dish.

    Chicken sandwich and SCRATCH BENEDICT
    Jonathan T.

Scratch was a lively and modern atmosphere with quick service. The chicken sandwich was flavorful and large. It needed a little extra sauce which I asked for on the side. The scratch Benedict with Kahlua pork needed some hot sauce which our server offered. I would recommend getting the yuzu lemonade, very refreshing! Keep in mind they include a 4% kitchen service fee and they need the whole party to be there before seating.

Chicken and waffles with eggs. Great flavor, I'd leave the eggs off next tome.

Food is prepared in front of you with the open kitchen concept and the stiffness really welcoming. Food came out looking great and taste dud not disappoint! Menu has a ton of stuff so we'll be back to try more.

cute spot in ward, easy & ample parking in south shore village. there's indoor and outdoor seating. we came on a thursday at around 10am and it was quiet, no line, but usually there's a wait. staff is friendly! we got the milk & cereal pancakes ($16) with fruity pebbles. they offered another choice of frosted flakes. huge portion, stack of four pancakes and topped with fresh fruits. the pancakes are thick but they're quite dry. the scratch benedict ($25) was so yummy. the english muffins they used were so yummy, not dry and biscuit-y. i also really like the avocado spread they put on the muffins. the eggs were cooked nicely, hollandaise sauce was also delicious. they used applewood smoked ham - it was thick, a bit on the saltier side, but good. i think the pricing was okay for a spot in ward, though the pancakes may be a little overpriced for what was offered.

Love this neighborhood gem serving delicious and unique food. Tasty escargot, Cajun garlic shrimp, bone marrow, lemonade, and save room for the milk n'cereal pancakes! They can make the pancakes for dinner time too, perfect for dessert. Friendly service and free parking.

    Mushroom Medley Grits $13

Now that I'm a mom, I appreciate the availability of high chairs, foods toddlers can eat, and the speed at which food is delivered. This place had it all. I got the mushroom grits. Yum. The kidlets got garlic rice and scrambled eggs. Everyone was happy. Free easy parking too!

We just had a smashburger and a birria quesadilla, but what we really wanted were espresso martinis! Scratch's are some of the best! The perfect balance of two elements that we love!! We also shared a seared ahi salad which was alright this time around. Maybe my taste buds were off, but it didn't taste like the last time. We also had the waffle and mixed berries which was delicious! But again, the martinis are our favorite! Service was great! Always friendly and courteous, and they didn't mind how long we were there! Mahalo again Scratch!

Calentado Barbacoa, two sunny island eggs, garlic rice, chimichurri $24

Had a quick brunch at around 9:30, When we arrived there were a lot of seats available and we were able to get seated without a reservation. I initially tried to order the CRABK CAKE BENEDICT but was told they couldn't do it, second option was SCRATCH BENEDICT couldn't do that either so maybe they didn't have the hollandaise. I asked what was popular and the waitress suggested "SPICY SOUTHERN FRIED CHICKEN N' WAFFLE, BRULEE'D FRENCH TOAST or the CALENTADO" my friend and I decided to share so we got the chicken and waffles and calentado. We enjoyed both dishes, but I think the chicken and waffles would be the dish I would order again. The chicken wasn't oily and the waffle was good, the waffles were a little on the soft side but still cooked through.

    Deep Fried Deviled Eggs

So good and big potions we couldn't even finish our food. Also the music they play is great! Good food, good environment, good people! Oh we also ordered fried deviled eggs which we never tried before so so good hope we can find that in Texas.

Ask the Community - Scratch Kitchen

Do you serve any gluten-free pancakes or gluten-free waffles? Or gluten-free pastas?

Unfortunately we don’t at this moment. But I think it’s a great idea!

Can I make a reservation at this location for brunch?

    Yes on OpenTable I believe

Do you have any gluten-free items on your menu?

Yes they do! And the staff was quite knowledgeable.

    What time does brunch end?

    4 or 5ish

Can you bring wine corkage fee?

    Fee is $25 I think

Is this place doing indoor dining during Covid?

It was in mid- June 2021

Are there gluten free options or dishes that CAN be made gluten free?

    Yes! Great grits plates.

Where is the parking lot in this location?

Scratch Kitchen is at Ward. South Shore Shopping Center (The Rack. TJ Max. Eden in Love. Etc.) You can Park in the parking garage behind restaurant for Free. Walk through Mall to get to the front of the Scratch Kitchen entrance street side.

What are the brunch hours on the weekend?

Brunch hours on the weekend is from 8am to 5pm

    Do they sell gift cards?

    Yes!

    Is brunch served every day?

Hello Nikki, Yes brunch serves everyday from 9am to 3pm , 8am to 3pm every Saturday and Sunday

Do they have a lunch menu, or is it part of the brunch menu?

The brunch menu serves also as the lunch menu, they are one in the same.

Do they still do their Taco Tuesday special?

    I don't think so

I have been trying to call for over a week. There is either a busy signal or it rings 10+ with no answer. Any suggestions?

From what I gather from their IG account (@scratch_wardhi) they are temporarily closed as of June 30 due to a family emergency. They said they would update on all of their social media outlets. That's all I know.

Can we make reservations online? Also, how far in advance can I make a reservation?

They do not take reservations for lunch but they do take reservations for dinner. You may also call when you're heading over to see how long of a wait it may be but not sure if they'll write you down on a list. The food is so delicious that it's…

    Do they take reservations?

When I called for brunch, was told they don't take reservations, but do for dinner

What are the details on their happy hour? I know it's from 5pm to 6pm, but unsure what's included.

Here's a link to our latest happy hour menu on Instagram. https://www.instagram.com/p/BgVMJy5gV3i/

Over an hour &half wait is it worth it?

Here's a trick. Plan your visit around having to go to TJ Max or Nordstrom Rack. First put your name on the wait list then go do your shopping. They will call you on your mobile phone when your table is almost ready.…

Is the dinner menu the same as their lunch menu?

No. The dinner menu is like a Southern Table menu with delicious and well-plated dishes such as: Smoked salmon Deviled Eggs, pork loin w/smoked green chili mac n'cheese & collards, oyster roast w/chorizo & Creole red beans & rice.

    Is it dog-friendly?

PLEASE, leave your non-service pets at home. Mahalo EVERY other diner.

I made a mistake this time and didn't order my usual Pork Tenderloin Katsu. I tried the Oyster Mix Katsu (Oyster, Shrimp, Pork Loin), and the seafood pieces had way too much breading -- the actual seafood was maybe half the size of the whole piece, which was disappointing. My partner ordered the Bairin Mix Katsu, so I got to try the Minced Pork Katsu, and that was amazingly delicious. One lady made it sound like she was giving us extra time, but the website says 1.5 hours anyway. Note to myself: stick with the Pork Tenderloin Katsu or the Minced Pork Katsu next time.

I didn't expect much from this small corner diner, but everything turned out real solid! The exterior is especially entrancing, with its bright, rainbow neon sign that glows out the darkness of the night! The hooded interior was clean and followed well with the rainbow theme, especially with its rainbow pastel, title wallpaper. I would also like to compliment the workers, who were very nice and approachable! We ordered the loco moco plate, mixed plate, and saimin. Both plates were very filling and came in huge portions! The plates are for sure a top choice if you want a nice, hearty dinner! I especially enjoyed my loco moco! The saimin was less filling and came in an instant noodle cup. Still yet, it wasn't half bad--and it actually seems like a fairly good piece if you are on a diet or budget; it wasn't as expensive as the other dishes and only came out as 220 calories! I also want to note that they have a variety of tasty dessert pastries and icee treats if you are looking for a treat after your dinner. And we just can't go here anymore unless changes are made! We used to prefer them over Zippy's, but now they are less than 7-Eleven quality, while charging higher-end prices for the neighborhood. We have given them many chances, hoping it was just a fluke, but we have repeatedly been disappointed. Their chicken has become chewy and fatty, their rice is mediocre, and condiments such as mayonnaise are stripped down to the bare minimum quantity. Chile is poured so lightly that it is practically a minuscule amount. And their prices have continued to rise. I don't know if greedy people took over the restaurant who just don't care anymore, or what is going on. I remember when I used to take people here, and they would be impressed with the quality and quantity--plates just heaping with good cuts of meat, noodles, and rice. Those days are no more. As they say in Japan, the price performance is poor. Furthermore, their staff is rude. I can only imagine it was an owner working this day because it was a face I haven't seen that often. An older gentleman who appeared to be of Okinawan descent, working the cashier register, accosted us because I was privately discussing with my family about splitting different items with them. We were all ordering something, so he wasn't losing any money, but he told us about how prices are double in Waikīkī. First of all, it is rude to interrupt your customers that way. Secondly, we don't go to Waikīkī or care about Waikīkī. What happened to serving the locals? Third, Waikīkī has an assortment of restaurants, prices, and qualities, and they shouldn't be how you base your services. Lastly, I guarantee I could find a better deal in Waikīkī if I wanted to. Next time you're in the area, just go get a $6 bento or a $5 burrito from 7-Eleven next door. I assure you, the price performance and experience will be better. If Rainbow Drive-In is in the business of comparing themselves to other things, let's compare them to 7-Eleven and at least try to be better than them, right? I can get mochiko chicken from 7-Eleven for $6.99 that is similar in portion size and better quality. Meanwhile, they are serving their fatty, dry chicken for $16.75. Highway robbery! And they are not fancy, with their dirty picnic tables and plastic cutlery. They are just a step above a food truck, if that. Save yourself from the hype. They have gone downhill like a landslide. Go elsewhere.

It was definitely a medium as I had ordered. The fries were a little weird. I like fries that are thinly cut but these were sort of thick chunky spiral fries that were semi crispy and semi soft. The salmon was rather fatty and didn't have much of any taste. There were maybe two chunks of mandarin oranges and the dressing was rather disappointing. I think it was a homemade hoisin dressing although I could only taste the oil and not much of the hoisin. I wouldn't recommend the salmon salad. I think in the future I'll stick to brunch instead.
