I used to love this place but wow it has gone downhill. Unfortunately, the drinks, food and service were all bad. It was so bad that we asked for the check after we each had one drink and an app. We ended up walking down the street to bar taco. The drinks were all terrible. I was given the wrong drink twice and the first drink i ordered had whiskey in it instead of tequila. The ceviche was so incredibly bland it and had zero flavor whatsoever. The only flavor came from the pieces of pineapple in the dish. After trying 3 terrible drinks and one flavorless app, my group decided to call it quits. I think the biggest issue was service. Waitress acted annoyed that we were asking questions. She couldn't describe any of the dishes. I asked if there was dairy in a certain dish and she had to ask the kitchen. I asked her what kind of dairy specifically was in it and she said "lots of dairy." It was like pulling teeth trying to get any info out of her. Towards the end she apologized for our experience and did discount some items, however it was still $71 for 3 people who didn't even eat dinner. A well-executed experience from the service to the drinks to the meal! I loved that the host who greeted us and addressed us as "friends." Immediately comfortable and anticipating a good evening. We started with drinks at the bar after a long day working and looking forward to a drink. I went with a tequila recommended by the bartender - Código - served in a tequila snifting glass, which looks like a champagne glass, salt on the rim, and lime. Very smooth. Planning on buying a bottle now that I'm back home. After the rest of our group arrived and our table was ready, we moved outside. Since there were 7 of us, we opted for the family-style meal -- Bear's Picnic Basket. Boy, was that a good call. We started with a refreshing round of ceviche, asparagus with a green sauce and poached egg (superb!), and quinoa + greens salad. Then, mofongo, coconut rice (served in mini cast iron so it was crispy on the bottom, oh yes, more pls!), patatas bravas. Ending with ice cream and churros. Wow! Can't believe I've slept on this spot for a full year. Finally made it to Señor Bear this past weekend and totally enjoyed the food, drinks, ambiance, and service. We arrived as a group of seven after an event, i.e. a little tired, pretty sweaty, and very much in need of a round (or three) of cocktails. We started with drinks at the bar, all of which were vibrant and summery-looking. I particularly enjoyed my smoky-meets-sweet Mezcal margarita! We then moved to a bigger table out on the patio. The waitstaff was really accommodating and had the table ready for whenever we were ready. For our meal we ordered the "Bear's Picnic Basket," which is basically just a chef's choice family-style menu for $45 a head. The whole table has to be "in" for this, but if you're with a group of adventurous eaters, I definitely suggest giving it a go. They honestly just kept coming out with food--ahi tuna, asparagus, coconut rice, and mofongo were just a few highlights. Just when I thought there couldn't be any more food, they brought out a big plate of churros and a bowl of peanut ice cream. Such a sweet way to end a lovely meal! As I mentioned, our servers and bartenders were top notch and made things super easy. We've been to Señor Bear many times in the past but hadn't been in awhile and were disappointed by our recent visit. They say the plates are meant to be shared but then only bring 2 pieces of bread and a few tortillas for a party of 4 and then upcharge without notice when you ask for more... Service was very slow for how empty the restaurant was. We were also very shocked to see a 20% service charge. Señor Bear has developed into a subconscious guilty pleasure and a testing ground for healthy boundary lines between a proper promenade back home or enduring deliciously malignant short naps in my neighbors' yards because of the evolving nature of their menus. To spare you, the reader, of the macabre details, I've been frequenting this popular eatery for quite a bit and experienced the up and downs that is normal for any restaurant - I've noticed the increase of quality in the tasting experience, drinks, customer experience, and if you're prone for the people watching and listening, Señor Bear has become quite the ticket to jump on the dining train. The absolute favorite of mine to start the belly-expanding night is the Albacore Tuna Ceviche still remains on the menu, and rightly so! A heavy contender is the Verlasso Salmon Crudo but please don't tell it that. The black bean salad surprises with it's extremes in flavor and freshness of being a veggie plate but being beans, plan your strategy accordingly because you can be quite the involuntary brass band. To amend the situation, I'd suggest the brócoli saltado or the tomato escabeche but make sure not to combine the flavors via original Ghostbusters where Egon says "don't cross the streams," as ignorance can lead to an explosion inside the mind from the tastes. Make sure you refill your caipirinha or Pisco Sour before continuing the adventure. There'll be no disappointments with the crispy pig-tail, empanada, or the coconut spare ribs where the latter, you can embrace your inner beast, your Conan, chew meat off the bone as well as the bone itself (it being soft) and hear the lamentations of those moderately impressed. Did I mention to refill your cocktail between your endeavor? Señor Bear houses an impressive array of liquor on the shelves and its worth a trip to try the mezcals, cachaças, rums, tequilas and such. Ask the bartenders who have proven to be the most amicable of hosts for a good booze tasting experience. Don't hesitate to ask for a good recommendation. Speaking of which, the staff here are super friendly and will do their best even when the place maxes out the number of people. Always a quick smile and great consideration for your needs. If you're lucky, the occasional bad joke. As mentioned, even if it is busy, and the drinks or orders are traveling at a Jurassic pace, the people watching and listening is fantastic. It's a great environment to just "be." If you're new, give it a try. It's located in the popular neighborhood of Denver and can be a great at start to your Denver journey. I enjoyed my meal at Senor Bear yesterday. We started with the ceviche tostada of the day and the pigeon pea escabeche, both well seasoned and flavorful. Then moved on to the mahi mahi coconut curry dish, coconut milk rice and the jerk pollo. There were a lot of great flavors and the rice and mahi were rich and spicy dishes. It's a pretty expensive spot with nothing that particularly stood out...I would go for happy hour if anything, it is 3-6 every day and you can sit in the main restaurant and order off the hh menu until 5 which is nice. Best happy hour in LoHi at the moment. Not too many places are offering during these days of masked and modified service, so Senor Bear is a welcomed oasis. The menu is small and they only have 10 tables or so in total, so make sure you get in early but keep in mind that there are always others waiting behind you. You truly can't miss on any of their happy hour food options. Their Gordita is worth the price of admission alone. Their happy hour marg is the perfect compliment to all of their offerings. Do try the escabeche (cold beans) served alongside friend plantain chips...yum! And if you get the queso you better add that chorizo because why not amirite? Had a pretty enjoyable meal here at Senor Bear with my wife and 2 kids. The place is surprisingly kid friendly (they have kids cups with lids, high chairs, can do a cheese quesadilla, a lot of ambient noise so kids being somewhat noisy won't ruin the dining experience), which I really appreciated because places I feel like I can take my kids out to get my business more frequently! What stood out to me was the cocktail and beverage program. The Pisco Sour was one of the best I have ever had and my wife ever had (and she has been to Peru), the Captain Dan's Milk Punch (Mezcal, Grapefruit, Ginger) had a nice smoky flavor, and the Batida Coquita (Chachaca, Rum, Horchata, Passionfruit) was like going on at tropical vacation. As far as the food goes, we went with the basically tasting menu. For $45/person we got to try 5-6 dishes and 2 desserts and was a great way to try the menu. I won't get into all of it but the highlights to me were the Broccoli Saltado, a riff on the Peruvian "Lomo Saltado", which had Broccoli, Mushrooms, topped with fries and an aoli. It was served with a savory chive crepe stack served in a tortilla case. I liked the flavors of it and was a fun dish. They also had a Pork Loin dish and Confit Potatoes, that I did not see on the menu that I also really liked. For dessert they brought Churros and Flan. The Flan was good, but a really small serving. The churros were a little overbaked/fried and the way they were plated looked like little turds. Tasted good, but I would think the way it's presented needs to be rethought. Overall, it was a positive experience. I liked the South American riff on a lot of the dishes, as it is different than many of the other offerings in town. The cocktails were amazing. It feels like it could have been an old bakery or something that they've done a really god job styling, painting, tiling, etc. Super mixed bag with the service here. The guy who sat us? Great. It had been several months since seeing my friend and so we stayed for quite a while chatting and laughing but the server was very clearly upset when saying " wow, must be having a really good chat" then when we mentioned that he knew how it was he said " no, I really really dont know how it is" like folks getting together over dinner is a foreign concept. IDK, I just didnt like the way he made it seem like we werent welcome guests and that the stress of us dining out in COVID was just too much for him. Additionally, my food was inedibly spicy. I like spice! I got the Brocoli Saltado specifically for it! But the menu doesnt mention fresno OR serrano and I got both in my dish, in addition to the chili glaze and the aioli. So it just was spicy to the point of not being enjoyable and obviously, at $21 a dish, that's a bummer. My wife and I went to Señor bear for our Saturday dinner. It was packed when we arrived at 9:30pm. The place had a nice interior and parking is plenty on the street given the place seems to be in a more of a residential area. Based on our waitress recommendation we went for the Señor Bear basket which is what the Chef chooses for you from the menu in a family style coursing. The food served included tuna ceviche, asparagus, arroz y pollo, patatas, yellow eye beans, sliced beef (wasn't in the menu), churros and cinnamon ice cream. The portion was really big. Although all of the food was good the highlights for us would be tuna ceviche, arroz y pollo and the churros. Note that the menu in their website isn't updated. They included some items and prices for some dishes has increased a bit. Overall I would recommend visiting this place if you are craving some Latin food. read more

My 10 Brunch Babes and I went to Señor Bear yesterday for brunch and were throughly impressed! The food was fantastic, the service is great, and the brunch cocktails are no joke. That being said, my big tip of the day is - start with one cocktail and decide if you really need bottomless haha - We all tried a different dish on the menu including the Guiso Stew, The Ensalada, the Frita Cubano Burger, the Comida Completa, and the Soft Scramble. This is our go-to place for a great dinner. Our last visit was on June 27 for an anniversary dinner (and to be honest, our last two anniversaries were spent here as well). We pretty much have our order memorized. A couple of drinks (the Paloma, Pisco Sour, Margarita and Caipirinha are delicious), Ensalada de Casa (house salad), Asado de Res (skirt steak with chimichurri), empanadas (don't question...just order) and arroz con coco (coconut rice), finished off with the churros (best in Denver!!) and a scoop of seasonal ice-cream. While this is more than enough for the two of us, we might take home an order of churros to enjoy later :) Great food. Great atmosphere. Great staff. read more

Senor Bear is a great little spot with delicious food. I have been here several times, but I wanted to hold off reviewing until I had tried their happy hour and I'm glad I did! Located on the corner of Tejon and 33nd, Senor Bear is right in the mix of the LoHi food and drink mecca. They incorporate lots of greenery and tile in their décor and there is bar and table seating. I would recommend getting a reservation and going with a smaller group because there are only a few spots for large groups and they are almost always booked. The happy hour menu has some great options on it including the queso cheese, the gordo crunch taco, and the ceviche, all of which are very reasonably priced. Their margaritas are excellent, and they have a decent beer and wine selection. Every time I have been here the staff has been friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I will say that I have enjoyed the smaller plates better than the large plates, so I will stick with those items. For example, I once ordered the Asado de Res and felt it was just okay, whereas the tacos were delish. I am looking forward to trying Senor Bear's brother restaurant in RiNo, Mister Oso! read more

Maybe because it was Christmas Eve and no one wanted to work, but we were pretty disappointed for a hefty tab. The Christmas cocktails were interesting: one tasted like spicy hot chocolate, the other like spiked eggnog, but the ideas were creative and well executed. Sadly, the same couldnt be said about the food. Mofongo was not fully cooked, partly mushy, partly hard, but flavorless, with the pork skin being the best part. Ceviche was good, but overpriced for the portion size, and we had to dig deep to find the fish underneath all of the random components on the plate. My mom loved the churros, and said those were the best part and she could have had two bowls. We sat at the bar, where service was good. Maybe it was an off night, but for two drinks, two small plates and dessert, the bill was too high, and the whole experience was not memorable, with nothing to draw us back there again. read more

First, the space is GORGEOUS! It might be my favorite aesthetic in Denver. The natural light and all of the plants and the wall decor is a winning combo. I've been here for Sunday brunch twice and it is very tasty. All of the brunch items we have tried are good but my two favorite things are the churros and the horchata! The churros are seriously some of the best I've ever had (definitely the best I've had in Denver). They are perfectly cooked and the flavors of the sauce they come in are incredible! My favorite of the brunch entrees I've tried is the Brócoli Saltado. It tastes like a Latin-Asian fusion and reminds me of a take on Lomo Saltado. Warning, it is pretty salty but I didn't find it to be too much. One person in my party did though. I highly recommend making a reservation for brunch since they only do it on Sundays and it is a pretty small place. Both times I have gone, the service was stellar! Food is way too salty and drinks are weak with barely an ounce or 2 with a whole chest of ice in each drink. Max profits/low food quality seems to be the new thing. Whooooa this place rocks! Love how they brought the garden indoors - basically. The decor is gorgeous and refreshing. I have been wanting to try this place for quite some time, and am so glad I did. This may be one of my favorites in the Denver area. The restaurant offers refined Latin dishes with a signature twist. I came in on a Sunday night to celebrate a friend's birthday. Our server was top notch--she had great recommendations, was attentive but not overbearing, and gave good insight into the menu. We decided to go with the Picnic Basket, which is essentially this restaurant's tasting menu. We had a hard time choosing, so we decided to do the "little bit of everything" route. Given the price of all of the small dishes, I feel this is the best way to go--you get to try way more, for a similar price to what you'd probably end up paying if you selected your own dishes. We were served the ceviche, rainbow trout, the quesadilla, patatas, empanadas, and the coconut rice. Each dish gave a respectful nod to tradition while still offering a signature touch. Flavors were bold and the food tasted fresh. We also ordered the congelado del dia (frozen drink of the day), which was a spiced sangria. This was delicious! We headed to Señor Bear on Friday for what happened to be their happy hour launch party and while, at times, service seemed a bit overwhelmed and disorganized, I'm going to chock it up to first time HH service. Otherwise, and up until it got busy, everything was great! Our server was friendly and natural and we really loved all the food. Everything was much smaller than we had expected so we ended up ordering one of everything (except the nuts) and favorites were the gordo crunch and the wings.
