Stumbled into this gem by accident... lucky me! Had the margarita and the Paloma and they were both very tasty. The food it's outstanding. The empanada and the ceviche tostada were to die for. The dishes are appetizers and therefore not filling but they range between $4-6. Parking was not hard to find - I believe there is parking on the back of the building as well. read more

We had a deliciously spectacular time at Señor Bear! Happy hour till 6 at the bar, and we enjoyed a full dinner of apps and drinks for only $35! Highly recommend the queso (huge portions) and the gordo taco. We also tried the arepa and the tostada and were super happy with the flavors, the portion size and the prices. The drinks were also super and the service was so friendly and attentive even though we were just getting happy hour items. We sat at the windowsill and were able to people watch while we enjoyed our bites. Can't wait to go back! read more

Senor Bear had been on my list of places to try based on all the raves Denver food bloggers and the reviews. The service was lovely and I had no issues with it. However, I was disappointed about the food that was served in relation to the final bill. The food is decent but it wasn't mind blowing or memorable. We got the chorizo parrillero (okay), brócoli saltado (saucy asian inspired broccoli dish that i definitely wouldn't recommend), and the daily special of pork shop (okay). The final bill for 3 entrees and 2 non-alcohol drinks was ~$80. Although the food was recent, I don't think I'll be coming back because of the food quantity to price. read more

I have been trying to go to this place for almost a year and finally made it! We went for a birthday dinner and I was so impressed. From the host to the bartenders to the server, the service was phenomenal. Good food is great but nothing beats great service. The staff helps each other out and everyone was working towards the same goal - Customer Service! Plus, the food was delicious. It is family style and so we ordered a bunch of different items. The coconut rice and flank steak with chimichurri sauce were my favorite and who doesn't love churros soaked in a caramel sauce. Drinks & Food were priced very well, especially for this being located in the highlands. This is a must if you are a local and a great stop for out of towners. There isn't a ton of room, so try and make a reservation to avoid a long wait! Its well worth the wait though. read more

Happy hour is definitely worth it. Past that I'm not so sure.... Dinner Empanadas were a touch too sweet for me. We split the el pollo bronco; it was not great. Large hunks of chicken, perfectly cooked but very bland. It was difficult to make your taco due to the size the chicken was cut, accompanied sides were also mediocre. Coconut rice- would have liked to see the bottom of the rice crunchier. Happy Hour Confit chicken wings - just ok. Gordo Crunch - delicious. Seafood tostada - delicious. Don't get it. Based on all the great reviews we gave it a shot. Drinks and food were fine. With that said, nothing we ate had a "Latin" flavor profile. The dishes on their own were tasty, but as we were encouraged to share, nothing really went well together. Specifically, we shared the chicken wings (no aji Amarillo taste at all), the steak (mole???), fish (greens way over vinegared and not even sure what the sauce was), and the broccoli (which tasted more Asian than Latin). Food is amazing, service is incredible. But the service charge they hit you with is ridiculous. Our meal was 107.00 before tax. Then tax of course, roughly 11 or so dollars. The 21 dollars or so service charge. I think they should advise people upfront . I saw no mention of it. Paying was no issue for us . But what happens to the person than barely have enough to cover the bill. I always thought for example a 30 dollars dish was 30 dollars. Not 36. It came out to about 20 percent. Am I wrong? I love this place! The menu is comprised of small, medium, and large plates and is best tasted with a group so you can try a little of everything. My favorite dishes were the Bean Escabeche, which came with the tastiest plantains. I could have eaten multiple bowls of those, and wish they came as a standalone menu item! I also loved the Brocoli Saltado and Jerk Pollo. I appreciated that our server steered us towards dishes that were easy to share, and he was quick to tell us his favorites to help us decide. I had been wanting to try Senor Bear for awhile now since I love their sister restaurant, Mister Oso. I would maybe come back to try out a few different menu items or happy hour but wouldn't order the Lomo Salgado again. Our waitress described it as one of the most authentic dishes they had. It essentially tasted like overly salty Chinese take out with burnt peppers and french fries on top. I feel like at both Senor Bear and Mister Oso their descriptions of the dishes don't fully describe what you're getting, which can make it hard to know what to expect. read more

Come here for happy hour. Prices are reasonable and the food is good during happy hour. Staff is hit and miss depending on the day. Great spot to grab some Latin inspired food and drinks. Pros -Happy hour with good (and different than menu) selection of food and drinks at much cheaper prices than standard menu. -Easy to share dishes, but would not consider this a tapas spot as portions are slightly bigger than a typical tapas. -We loved the Brocoli Saltado (think Latin inspired Chinese broccoli dish), it was absolutely delicious -Short Rib Tamal had some amazing sticky rice to it. -Mofongo was fantastic - think a Latin inspired version of a thanksgiving dinner -Solid drink selection of beer, wine and cocktails including a lot of tequila classic drinks and spins on other bar classics with tequila. Cons -A bit expensive for the quantity of food you are getting. I would say its almost necessary to order 3-4 dishes to feed 2 people and priced at $20ish a piece can add up quickly. Its like they want to be tapas but serve too much and also want to be family style but serve too little. Pick a lane and stick to it. -The Mahi Mahi was not the freshest, but hey were are in Colorado - you can expect sea to table fresh. -Wish the short rib was a bit more tender. Its flavor was great, but could have been cooked for another 15-20 to get that "fall off the bone" tenderness. Overall, my wife and I loved our trip to Senor Bear. We would absolutely revisit for another dinner as so many of the plates left us looking at each other and saying "oh my god that is good". read more

Been here 2ice for happy hour in one month. One word. Consistency!!! And that's across the board! We're talking cordial and knowledgeable servers, delicious food and drinks and an incredible atmosphere whether you're sitting in or outside. My go to's on their HH menu are their margaritas (no nasty premixed stuff here) their bean escabeche with plantains and their ceviche on tostada. Incredible value. I have rarely been this underwhelmed and negative about a meal. Details below: The bartender wasn't friendly to start, however the drinks were fine. Moving to the meal, on the plus sides: - the waiter was informative and friendly - the wagyu beef tartar on homemade brown toast was delicious Negatives: - broccoli Saltado - it was awful. Great place for brunch! Our waitress was very sweet and accommodating to the dietary restrictions that some members of our party had. The decor is very cute. Most importantly, the food is delicious! I got the quesadilla which had mushrooms inside and came with a fried egg, a small side of a smooth guac, and a lil side salad. I also tried my friend's chilaquiles, which were yummy, and we had the fries to share, which were great, very crispy, shoestring-type fries. If you get them bear style, it has some yummy meat, sauce, and sprinklings on it. Recommend! Señor Bear - Breakfast Quesadilla - Latin American Near Me - Denver, Colorado

Señor Bear disappointed across the board from start to finish. We ordered a myriad of dishes and can't point to one (maybe the empanadas) that was at minimum, decent. Let's start with the ceviche. Ceviche by definition is raw fish cured in citrus juices. The ceviche presentation was good, but it was literally cubes of raw tuna with a drizzle of some sort of lemon mayo - this is not ceviche. The "star" of the dinner - mofongo. This was an absolute disaster. The "mashed plantains" that the chicken sat on top of, was neither mashed nor cooked. There were bits of hard, uncooked plantains which tasted like cardboard. No sweetness nor creamy texture. The restaurant was nice enough to give us the short ribs instead, but again, this dish lacked any type of seasoning and flavor. Pan latin cuisine is defined by its spice forward flavor, which the short ribs severely lacked. To top it off, the sticky rice was more soggy than sticky. Lastly, some quick notes: the huancaina on the patatas was also some weird amalgation of dairy and queso, with no hint of heat which is characteristically inherent for huancaina sauce. Also, broccoli saltado - innovative idea in theory, but why would you use crepes as the vessel? Peruvian cuisine is driven by its heavy maize incorporation into its dishes, why not use some sort of tortilla if "taco" is what you're really going after. I came here for the first time with a few friends for dinner. We decided to opt for the Bear Basket which we ended up being super happy with and seemed to be the best bang for your buck. The four of us split appetizers (chicken wings, salad, fish ceviche(?) with cherries, and some sort of bruschetta-like bread)- I was full just from these portions and everything was delicious. I didn't catch the names of the dishes because I was so overwhelmed by how amazing everything looked. The entrees were next and we shared plates of jerk chicken, carrots, coconut rice, and halibut. The coconut rice was served in a small cast iron and was perfectly crispy and perfect with the fish. The jerk chicken had great flavor but I found it kind of tough to eat. It looked more tender than it was. Dessert was a small piece of tres leches with strawberries and a plate of thin churros. Overall, a solid meal and I appreciated that they had fun non-alcoholic options. The only real downside is I think I might have been disappointed by the price and taste more if I had to order a la carte, since without the Bear Basket, I would have probably just ordered the jerk chicken and a couple of sides for around the same price. This was our first visit to Señior Bear, and it will definitely not be our last! Every dish we ordered was excellent, unique, and packed with flavor, and the frozen pumpkin, peach, mango punch was made from scratch, and delicious as well. My hubby had the house margarita, which was good (though not great). We had fried plantains, an autumn squash side dish, coconut rice (served in a cast iron pan), and we shared a half jerk chicken dish that was absolutely outstanding (local free range & organic). We had heard that they make the best churros in town, but we were honestly so full and satisfied, that we decided to save that for another visit. Service was attentive and friendly, and everyone on the staff seemed genuinely happy to be there. Friends were in town and I was looking for a place where we could sit, share plates and savor time together with quality drinks and food. This ended up being an excellent choice! We did the three courses (chef's choice), which was priced per person. Everything was fresh, flavorful and it was fun to be surprised. Loved the tequila selection, drinks and service. Favorites were the focaccia, chive crepes, the ceviche with cherries, pork chop, all of the vegetables. The dessert course was so yummy- churros with caramel sauce and tres leches cake with roasted strawberries. Parking was easy and the ambiance was great. Be aware, there is a deposit for a reservation, but it was promptly refunded when we showed up. They also transparently add a 20% service charge to the bill. Great experience and meal. read more

Underwhelmed after hearing such rave reviews from friends. I went for brunch and got the Chilaquiles Verdes and a spicy Bloody Mary. My cocktail was delicious and had a nice persistent burn. Unfortunately I didn't enjoy the Chilaquiles Verdes. Overall the dish was dry, and I struggled to find enough of the toppings to eat with the chips.
