I went there because of a fund-raiser. The food was good but ridiculously over priced. One tamale, for example, is $29. None of the entrees come with a side. Each side is separately priced at $15. All of their food is tiny and pretentious. I definitely won't be going back. The server, however, was great. Although they charge an automatic 20% tip, which is NOT ok, and there were only 4 of us. Some places grat with six or more but this place does it for everyone. I believe servers should earn their tip, which ours did but very presumptuous of them to auto-tip. This is my second time to Señor Bear and it did not disappoint. I honestly always forget about it... not really sure why since our meal this go around was SO good! My parents were in town and we decided to go somewhere they hadn't been. We shared the BBQ Chicken Empanadas, Coconut Rice, Patatas, and focaccia. Everything was perfection but the standouts were the coconut rice and the focaccia. I loved the creamy rice with slight heat from the Fresno chiles and the acidity from the pickled red onions. The grilled focaccia with homemade butter was just to die for! The potatoes and empanadas were quite enjoyable but not necessarily something I couldn't find other places. Came here for a Sunday night dinner for two. We immediately took note of the cute decor and cozy space. We were seated right away (had a reservation) but was about 10 minutes until we were given water and greeted by our waiter. Despite the wait, our waiter was friendly and helpful. He recommended that for a table of two, 3-5 dishes would be an appropriate amount of food. We split the trucha a la parilla, mofongo de hongos, yuca, and viandas asadas and pleasantly surprised by how quickly the food arrived. The trucha a la parilla was by far our favorite dish. The spice was just perfect and the sauce was delicious. We also enjoyed the viandas asadas and mofongo. The yuca was ok- we've both had better but it was good with the sauce from the trucha and extra mole from the viandas asadas. Worst experience ever! The food was mid and over priced and the service was awful. Our table was ignored by the server the whole time we were there which made us all feel uncomfortable. As we were friendly and at first understanding as we know the service industry is hard. However, we watched as he attended to every other table in his section but ours. Which then made it clear to us that the server did not care about our table. The worst part is when we got the bill we didn't have an option but to tip 20% as it was already included in the check which the server failed to mention until after the fact. For the 4 days we were in Denver / Boulder, SENOR BEAR WAS THE ABSOLUTE BEST FOOD WE HAD. The Summer Bean Escabeche was marvelously fresh, savory, and unique ALL AT THE SAME TIME. I'm quite sure I raved about it so loud for 30 minutes while eating our dinner that two tables next to us ended up asking for "whatever that guy is yelling about". I have no shame - I love food and this dish was phenomenal in every way. Our other dishes were also good: the Empanadas were fresh and reminded me of South American street empanadas - flavorful and delicious (and maybe just a slight bit too unhealthy). The Asado de Res was a fun play of fatty and salty with the heavy chilantro purée to balance out the intensity. The Apricot Smash was an absolute delight. The Yuca Root was probably the least exciting part of the dinner but still not too bad (maybe a 3.5 out of 5) and they give you enough to survive on in the mountains for at least 3 days so at the very least they make it up with quantity! I'm going to recommend this place to every person that tells me they are going to Denver - that's how much I loved this restaurant. read more

We've been to Senor Bear a few times for dinner and always had a good time but brunch was new for us and we were pleasantly surprised. I had got Chilaquiles at a different restaurant a few weeks back and was scarred by how underwhelming it was so I was indifferent about getting them here but wow, was I glad I did! It was so flavorful. The chips were super crunchy (which is necessary with a sauce like green Chile so they don't get soggy) and the poached egg made it perfect. We also got the churro french toast which was incredible as well. The syrup was insanely delicious too. I actually was more impressed with their brunch then the past dinners we've had there. I went this past weekend for brunch and we waited 20 minutes for someone to come and take our drink order and significantly longer to get our food order in. I understand that everywhere is suffering from a staff shortage and it is tough to get immediate attention to tables. But, there were tables sat after us who got orders in for mains before we even saw the server. So that is a tough way to start out a meal. We ordered the empanadas which weren't bad necessarily, just under seasoned and the pastry was too buttery and left an oily film on the pastry and my fingers. For a main I ordered the chilaquiles and my biggest gripe with it was the entire thing tasted single note. Each element had the same flavor profile as everything else on the plate. I was just so underwhelmed with the taste of everything. I think with all the amazing options Denver has to offer I would go somewhere else for brunch. read more

With all the good reviews I was unfortunately very disappointed. My boyfriend and I went for brunch and honestly 3 stars is being generous and is really for the super friendly service. We started with the Queso Fundido w/Chorizo and it was very ok. We both felt like it was missing something but it was ok and definitely the best thing we had. My BF had the Churro French Toast which he said he wouldn't recommend. It was too much, he pushed half the bacon off because it was candied and just too much with everything else. I had the Avocado Toast and couldn't eat it. It was honestly just an enormous amount of basic tasting guacamole on top of soggy bread. It just really wasn't tasty at all and on top of that, the prices are pretty steep. The guacamole on "toast" was $19 and I ate probably 3 bites. Great food, drinks, and service! Happy hour is the way to go - the tapa/apps are all different enough and they have a few that are off the menu. We got the tostada, gordo crunch, pork buns, arepas, and guacamole. We loved everything but ended up getting two servings of the arepas (stuffed with cheese!) and the gordos. Both were so good! I personally loved the gordos - soft shell covered taco but the flavors were amazing - it was spicy, citrus and had a sweet syrup sauce. A delicious flavor blast! Even the guacamole was extra delicious with crunchy pistachios on top! And they aren't stingy on the chips - you get plenty to eat with your guac and on the side of your tapas. There were a lot of drink options and even some non alcoholic options. Service was amazing! We also go the chorizo which was a big portion and so flavorful! The mustard seed sauce it came with was perfect with the chorizo sausage. We also got the coconut rice which was good but I wouldn't get it again. It helped balance out the spicy chorizo and patatas. The patatas were AMAZING! Not sure what's all in it but it's spicy, crunchy, cheesy, fluffy, garlicky, and just delicious. Lastly, the churro is a must! I was walking around the area with a friend and we decided to go to Señor Bear for a drink. The ambience is definitely very nice, Latin fusion themed which I thought was pretty cool. The wait staff were friendly and inviting despite it being busy. From the looks of it the food looked pretty good but I was already full so I just got a margarita and churros. The margarita had a good zing to it, I have a low tolerance for alcohol so it hit me pretty quick. The churros which the waiter said was apparently the best in Denver was pretty good, I don't think it is the best lol but it did come out nice and hot, and it went well with the sweet butter sauce that came with it. Love Señor Bear! My go-to happy hour location!! It's rare to find an everyday happy hour location, so this is definitely a hidden gem! HH is everyday from 3-5pm. Our favorite happy hour drink is the two daily frozen cocktails that are only $5 each. We've also tried the original margarita, paloma and some of the apps- all great. We were seated outside in their heated little tent where we could connect to the blue tooth speaker and play our music. Ohhh Covid, thank you for these unique experiences but I will not miss them. Personally I thought it was kind of annoying and a rip off but I will jump at any opportunity to get out of my house and go out to eat now that denver has lifted some covid dining restrictions. Little did I know that our expectations were exceeded by far!! There were 3 or 4 full size apps- chips and guac, a huge delicious salad, empanadas, and some sort of fantastic raw marinated ahi tuna dish. The entrees were abundant and all unique. Some sort of steak seared with a yummy green sauce, smothered chorizo, a filet of white fish with salsa, and something else but of course I can't remember. Dessert was their famous churros. To say we left happy and full is an understatement! I also had two house margs and they were some of the best I've ever had in Denver. Nice and strong!
