As the closest mariscos place my family has always liked this place alright, but we recently ordered dinner and I discovered a MAJOR upgrade on the shrimp ceviche tostada. I imagine the other tostada options got the same treatment. Last time we ordered, which was some months ago, the ceviche was still minced up shrimp with some tomato, cucumber, citrus, and a bit of avocado in a little styrofoam cup. Now, for the same price, I got a nice big plate of halved, well-cleaned, delicious big ol' shrimp with tons of fixin's (including a good amount of avocado). Wow, bad service. Nobody greats you, their mood seems monotone. The cashier didn't know what their food menu was. I ordered the breakfast burrito which says up on the huge menu board, "served all day" and she had to ask a co-worker if they serve it. I've dined here quite a few times throughout the years. Loved their breakfasts, the chorizo breakfast burrito, tortas, and burritos. I've been on a fish tacos kick the last year and have been coming here with my mom for those. They have a variety of fish which great and you can choose from grilled or battered. They're a little pricey but the portions of fish are generous so it's worth it. Senor Fish has been one of my favorite Mexican restaurants since I was a kid. I grew up close by and so I would often walk down the street to get asada fries and burritos. They have, hands down, the best chicken burrito and SOUR CREAM! I asked once and they said they mix sour cream with a little salt and I tried it at home but it never tastes as good as theirs! This is a bad Mexican place. Don't recommend it at all. I ordered their taco plate 1 fish and 1 shrimp and 1 scallop taco on the side with chips and salsa. They charged me $23 total. Chips were cold and unsalted ($4). Their portions are extremely small. 1 scallop, 1 piece of fish, 2 shrimps. The scallop was fresh and not overly fishy tasting, however their shrimp and fish was horribly overpowering with fishyness and the batter had no flavor at all. The rice is undercooked and hard/cold. Beans taste and look like they're from a can. Their salsas all have that weird sour aftertaste that they get when they get old. Super hit or miss. When it's good it's GREAT, when it's bad it's really bad. My family and I have been getting Señor fish for years and we have a love hate relationship with it. We've had orders severely screwed up more times than I can count but we still come back because we hope that we'll get lucky and get some of their really good food. One time I ordered a veggie burrito and they put french fries in it? I was bummed about it but thought it was worth trying. It wasn't even good; the fries were soggy and took up 90% of the burrito. Another time, I ordered a veggie burrito (I ordered it to be vegan) and they completely disregarded my request and put steak in it. Today, I ordered the Mexican Chopped Salad with chicken. And instead of chicken...french fries? Nice. Generally speaking, I recommend this restaurant. But it can be really frustrating to get the wrong food so many times. I really wanted to like this place. It unfortunately lived up to all the previous poor reviews. The menu says refried beans, but apparently you need to specify what kinda beans other wise they will just give you boiled pintos / frijoles de olla. Also, found bits of shell in my egg and had to spit out. I might also note seasoning is minimal in the dishes I had. The girls working were nice enough to give me an order of refrijitos, but I can't say that really made up for what I had already experienced. I will also note while the girls behind the counter were wearing masks, the guy in back cooking was not, and frankly he's the only one I would be concerned about wearing one. (Also when leaving, I noticed a woman in back cooking not wearing a mask either). Pandemic or not, I think cooks should wear some nose/mouth shield to promote cleanliness. Final note, no soap in the restroom, that really is a red flag for cleanliness. I know things are tough in the pandemic for small businesses to make it. So it only took me 2 years to try Senor Fish, even though I live about 5 minutes away. After my first visit, lemme tell what I wish I had known the first time. 1. Their entire menu doesn't fit on the chalkboards, so if you want something like a burrito get the paper menu sitting right next to the cash register. That menu has everything on it. 2. The plaza doesn't have nearly enough parking, so don't be shy about parking on the street and taking a short walk. 3. Save your money and don't get tortilla chips. Some restaurants give you a little with your food, someone restaurants give you a basket if you ask. Senor fish charges $2.19. And they have the audacity to do it, with a Trader Joes across the street where you could buy an entire bag for that price. 4. On Friday night, at least half of the people are getting food go-to, so the line will move quickly. I definitely enjoyed my 2 carne asada tacos with rice and beans, but after 2 other dishes for Mrs. C and my first grader, the price was nearly the same as La Fiesta Grande. I ordered the grilled shrimp enchiladas (red sauce) plate that comes with rice & beans. The shrimp was very fresh and tasted great wrapped in the corn tortillas topped with red sauce, cheese and guacamole. Rice and pinto beans not too shabby neither! There were flies flying around and constantly landing on the food. The bathrooms were cleaner than the eating area.. The employees have no sense of customer service. They were rude and ignored me as I stood there waiting for a togo box. I even made eye contact with them and they looked away. The food is good which is why I left two starts.
