I've been a regular for years but we went a few nights ago and I was sorely disappointed: temperature inside was freezing - absolutely no heat whatsoever but perhaps it was an effort to make the putrid smell coming off the garbage can in the dining room less noticeable? It didn't help the smell. Since the pandemic the salsa bar has been discontinued but now they're not even putting salsa on the tacos! No choice of salsa - no salsa at all. No jalapeños, no cream, no iced tea. And every table appeared dirty - no contact with a dishcloth in days The classic fish taco special is poor imitation of what it used to be. Wow... what happened to this place?!? I have been going to Señor Fish since 2003 in South Pas. The fish tacos were always good and the fish was fresh. Today I ordered the wild caught orange roughy with black beans, rice and salad. The black beans were the consistency of wet chalk. The rice seemed as it may have been cooked with old oil and was flavorless. The fish may have been wild but it definitely wasn't fresh. Honestly it was inedible. I left my plate more or less untouched and walked out. But as I was sitting there, looking down at this plate of terrible food, I couldn't help look up at the people responsible. When I ordered I noticed the chefs looked sad, the staff looked sad. Everyone was polite and professional but seemed really miserable. Who is managing these people? What is it like to work there? It made me sad for them as if these horrible representations of rice and beans, staples of Mexican cuisine, were a culinary cry for help. I have NO evidence that anything is wrong with the management. I may have been projecting my disgust for the food onto the person ultimately responsible for my poor dining experience. However, I know it's hard to cook good food if you aren't cooking from your heart. Either way, if this review does reach management, and there is truth to any of this, maybe reconsider your tactics for running a restaurant and treating your crew because you're food is suffering as a result. read more

I had eaten at a different Señor fish location, so I thought I'd try this one, despite the tepid reviews. First, I checked three locations, but none of the menus actually describe what's in the burritos. I was ordering on Grubhub. No details. I also checked the menu on Yelp. No details. Also their web site. No details. So I called to ask what's in their burritos. They don't add cheeses, so I asked if I could add cheese. She said, "Of course. Just put that in the special instructions on your Grubhub order." So, that's what I did. Well, I'm sure you can see where this is going: Even though this was a Grubhub order, Grubhub offers $10 coupons when you pick up your own food. So I picked up my order and brought it home--and discovered NO cheese or sour cream (both of which I had requested). Secondly, despite spending $14 on a burrito, you don't get free chips, which are standard at every other Mexican-food chain I can think of. Instead, if you want chips, you're forced to shell out $2.50. Finally, the dining room at this location is dirty and disheveled. It feels like a "temporary" location instead of a permanent one. Took my little cousin here and she loved it! I think she enjoyed it mostly because she got to play around on the piano. This place doesn't have the fanciest ambience or decor, but they do have decent seafood. Some of them are misses, like the tuna, but they are hits more often than not. I've eaten a good amount of dishes here and just starting out, I love the garlic butter combination plate of shrimp, fish and scallops. It's my go to whenever I eat here. I'm not a fan of beans, so I substitute it with fries, and they are quite good. The fish taco, grilled or battered is also excellent. Shrimp tacos and tostadas are also a delight. Not the biggest fans of burritos in general so I can't say much for those, but if you're hungry I recommend the combination plates. They also come with tortilla if you ask for them. read more

There's a great moment with restaurants you eat at repeatedly - sometimes it's on the first visit, sometimes the fourth - when you discover what you know is gonna be your favorite dish there. I realized that almost immediately when I first got the seafood omelette at Señor Fish. [WARNING: THIS ENTIRE REVIEW IS BASICALLY ME GOING OFF ABOUT A SEAFOOD OMELETTE. If that doesn't interest you, it's cool, just stop reading now.] Everyone who's left, let's do this... So I always order the seafood omelette with half salad and half rice, which basically gives it the powers from all four food groups: you've got fish, vegetables, rice and cheese (OK it's a stretch). I mean, this, to me, is a compelling reason why the seafood omelette should be served at almost every Mexican restaurant. Does your quesadilla have something from every food group? No. Well, actually, I guess it could. But does it have several types of seafood in it? Like it was a gift from the gods of the sea? No. The seafood omelette is also relatively healthy. You get an actual salad, with romaine lettuce and avocado and tomatoes and cucumber. It's not just iceberg lettuce or some sh!% drizzled with Thousand Island. It has richly colored, leafy vegetables. It's not going, "Oh yeah here's your 'salad' lolol." It's saying, "Here are a variety of vegetables, together. Eat them and enjoy your beta carotene." It's also not drenched in chili sauce and cheese, like an enchilada. There's a little cheese - just enough to make the omelette function and add to the flavors. No massive amounts of beans or mole or something to make you full off your guilt. Finally, the seafood omelette is huge and delicious. Not everything in this world is huge and delicious. Most things are either or. Either they're huge and you're like, "eh I mean... I really don't think I can finish this. No, thanks, I don't wanna take it to go." Or they're delicious, and you're like, "omg that was so good, I wish I had more so I could take it to go." The seafood omelette is delicious AND it's about the size that if you really wanted to, and properly paced yourself, you could take like half of it to go (although... I don't really recommend that, cause the salad and avocado and stuff doesn't keep well.) So yeah, the seafood omelette is my favorite thing that I've gotten here. Are there other good things here? Yeah, the tacos are good, the agua fresca is amazing. But nothing at Señor Fish, in my opinion, is as good as their seafood omelette. The end. read more

Sadly, I have been back to this Senor Fish several times since my nasty ass shrimp and scallop burrito incident. (Like I mentioned, i do my laundry next door.) BUT none of my experiences have been favorable enough to merit a glowing letter home or recommendation. On one of my visits since, I ordered a chicken tortilla soup. The soup was good, when i finally got to try it. It took a whole wash cycle and 1 whole dry cycle to be served to me. That is roughly a 35 minutes wait. I was there with someone else and they got their order. Apparently my order was just forgotten. When the cashier realized she apologized and offered us some chips and salsa while we waited. Another time i ordered the ahi tuna steak torta and the fish was way too fishy. Not edible. Just nasty. Then on a separate visit i ordered the fish taco sampler plate and the tacos were great. I wish every visit delivered consistent results, but it does not. And after each visit it seems there is yet one more thing i wont order from the menu because of it. When its good, its great. Hey, You know what? I liked Senor Fish. Maybe because he had a sobrero on and sang me mariachi music while flapping around in a fish costume and doused my burrito in glorious salsa. Okay, maybe not the whole sombrero thing or singing or fish costume. But truth be told, I liked the place. No frill service, you order get your ticket and sit down, they bring it to you and the rest is up to you. There is a self serve salsa bar with AWESOME salsas. I've had many a salsas in my yelplife but this was one of the better selections I've seen. They don't hold back on the heat and it's full bodied salsa all the way around. None of that watered down or bland stuff! I had the carne asada burrito and held the beans, not because they give me gas, but I just don't really like beans. I shared a burrito and it was the perfect portion because each they're huge! Between my brother, mom, and I, we also split a ceviche appetizer and asada quesadilla. I took pictures of both but could not get to the burritos because we scarfed them down so quickly. The burritos were absolutely perfect but the ceviche and quesadilla were both too overseasoned. Served with rice, beans, a salad with avocado and tortillas for $13 makes it a GREAT deal. So why only 1 star? They have Orange Roughy on the menu that was recommended by the gal at the window. (You order at a counter and they bring out your food.) I asked her if it was a sustainable fish? She had no idea what I was talking about. (And, no, I wasn't asking if I would get full eating it!) After 3 tries I just looked it up on an app I have on my phone, Seafood Watch. (I suppose I should have such knowledge at my disposal, but, alas the app must suffice) Turns out that Orange Roughy is one of the WORST fish to order. They can live to be 100 and don't reach sexual maturity until 30. They are quickly being fished to extinction. Second worst fish to order is swordfish which is also on their menu. So while this is a very affordable restaurant that does fish well I cannot recommend it because they have no conscience about what they serve. If one runs a fish restaurant I think one needs to be more informed of the dangers of over fishing and act accordingly. read more
